Book Description
Tory Harris and Junior Davis were in love -- a fierce, drunk barracks love that finally exploded in deception and betrayal. When their paths cross again it is the opening days of the U.S. invasion of Haiti -- the strangest of America's "little wars" of the 1990s. Rooted in the inner struggles of its characters and the weight of their secrets, Voodoo Lounge is the story of addiction in a triangle: Harris, a young, driven sergeant, the only female in her detachment; Davis, the disgraced former soldier whose tragedy burns all it touches; and Marc Hall, a Haitian-American intelligence officer sent to occupy his mother's homeland.
In living, detailed portraits, the novel segues through an army boat, an old missionary ship, the depths of a Haitian prison, and a squatters' camp in the shadow of an HIV hospital. Voodoo Lounge emerges as a novel of longing and love, of excess and bareness, of betrayal flowing in the blood, and the cold, blind passion for redemption.

When You Go, You Go For Real.......2006-03-20
Bauman has done what even Ernest Hemingway didn't: written a novel from a woman's perspective, and a soldier's at that.
Ultimately this novel struck me as being about relationships and the responsibilities that accompany them, whether they be between people, societies or countries, and how many enter relationships without considering the responsibility inherent in them.
For some, living up to the responsibility becomes next to impossible - while for others, life is duty and duty brings responsibility to yourself at the very least if no one else.
It's a hell of a book. Everyone should read it. Then put it down and think about it.
There aren't a lot of books out there I'd say that about - and even fewer writers.
couldn't put it down..........2005-11-19
Great book. Christian can write, that's for sure. No-nonsense, honest, direct, brutal, compassionate. He tells the story. From the vivid, sensory depiction of the scenes, to the insightful, sensitive and caring portrayal of the characters, Christian puts you there effectively and efficiently. I read with great interest this book from a writer of my generation giving us our contemporary war novels. It is eye-opening reading for insights into the soldier's experience and for the soldier's perspectives on our military. But, it's certainly more than the war stories that engage. It's also character portrayals of my generation which are both contemporary and, I'd guess, timeless. Let's hope Christian keeps providing a voice for years to come. I look forward to his next contribution.

Great Read.......2007-09-15
I thought this book was very well written, very detailed to what is written in the book of Revelation.I now have 12 books that the authors have written and in my opinion they are without a doubt the best books I have ever read. Please get a copy and read it!
Just one more book in the all-encompassing, enthralling, and utterly absorbing Left Behind Series.......2007-09-14
From the very first letter of the alphabet that my eyes looked upon inside this series of books, until the very last period of the very last sentence, I was hooked. Each one of these books absorbed my attention like no other book has ever done in my life. Biblically sound, theatrically entertaining, and brilliantly written, the Left Behind books will inspire you to dig into God's word and take the pieces of news from your T.V. screen and match them right smack-dab up with the prophecies of the Bible. Your hair will stand up, your heart will race, and you will find yourself helplessly caught in the suspense. Once you finish one of these books, you will desperately race to your computer screen or your local library to pick up the next one!

My husband enjoyed reading all of the left behind books but I am not much of a reader so I bought them each on audio and listened in the car on the way to work and such. The readers keeps your attention with different voices and sound effects. GREAT TAPES!

Only reason I gave it 1 star is you can't give zero. Complete nonsense, contrary to scripture and common sense alike. Strictly for the brain dead.

Should Have Been an Episode.......2002-06-04
This is one of McConnell's stronger entries in the series and touches on points that would have worked well in an episode of Quantum Leap. Child Abuse, tinkering with known history and Sam's own discomfort at being in the body of a female are all familiar themes seen in Quantum Leap. Some reviewers call this all gimmicky, but I think the gimmick, if there is one, works. Definitely a must read, must have if you collect the series.
One of the best in the "Quantum Leap" series!.......2001-10-04
Ashley McConnell managed to turn me off in her interpretation of "Quantum Leap" in "Quantum Leap: The Novel." To make a long story short, my expectations of the book were nowhere near what I got out of it. But keeping an open mind, I decided to go ahead and read "The Wall," thinking it had some promise. Luckily, it *did,* and I'm glad I had the foresight to pull it off the shelf.
"The Wall" discusses the serious issues of the Cold War, child abuse, and alcoholism with a very intellectual tone; much different than anything I had read in McConnell's first book. Unlike the first attempt, you can actually read it thinking, "Yeah, I can actually see Sam thinking/doing that here," instead of the sometimes irrelevant fluff that comes out of other stories. Instead of giving readers a cut and dry Leaping scenario, McConnell allows time for analysis and different outcomes. Yes, yes, I mean to say there's an actual, well-thought plot! There was enough detail in it to keep me from wondering, "Well gee, wouldn't (insert name here) have something to say abut that?" (which is nice if you're one of those analytical types like myself), yet it wasn't annoyingly bombarding with the sidenotes and tidbits that are at times cute, but usually serve no purpose.
You can read this book and get something out of it, seeing as how it's such a serious subject. Yet it doesn't detract from all the usual fun things in the "Quantum Leap" universe. You've still got Al, Ziggy, and the whole crew at the Project to lend comic relief, support, and sometimes add to the drama. If ever come across this one, take the time to read it. It's one of the better ones in the series.
Pointlessly Gimmicky and Underdeveloped.......1998-10-05
Some of the characterization of the girl Sam leaps into is cute, but for the most part, "The Wall" was too gimmicky for my tastes. The idea is, he leaps into this girl's life when the Berlin Wall is being built and later when it is torn down. I guess that's supposed to mirror the time the barriers in her family were built up and later when she and her brother finally had the courage to tear them down and face their father's abuse, since the BERLIN Wall never comes into play that much. Whatever. The Wall angle was really pointless, and the second leap into the woman's life was so short that it left no impact whatsoever. Altogether, an underwhelming QL effort.

Can Sam as a young child stop the constuction of THE WALL.......1997-08-14
Ashley McConnell has once again out done herself. The Wall is a highly charged book.
Sam leaps into a 6 year old child called Missy Robicheaux. The date is 1961, and the location is Germany. He finds himselve in a family of fear. The mother is a drunk and beats her children, the father is in the service and during the pre war is away, while the older brother has had enought of it all and if given the possiblity, would leave his mother to over dose.
At the project Beeks has her hands full. A young terrified Missy is stuck in a mans body and waiting to be punished for being away from home. With pressure from higher up, Al is trying to push Sam into a leap solution which to Sam doesn't feel right.
Seen as young and naughty, Sam must save the family, himselve and if possible Germany. And just when everything is drawing to a close, Sam leaps once again into Missy's life as an adult.
The book is excellent and one which I have read again and again. It deals indepth with the project side of the leaps and as well as what happens mentally to the leapee during and after the leap. The topic of the Wall, is still for some a hard one to comprehend, and this book gives a small in sght into what it would have been like for the people living in this time.
I highly recomment this book to any Quantum Leap fan or any one else wanting to read a good Book.

delightful cookbook.......2007-07-30
a vegetarian's dream - excellent recipes. not many pictures of finished dishes, but a wide variety of dishes and some vegan.
Vegetarian? Who cares?.......2006-11-20
This is a wonderful cookbook that I return to over and over again, not because it is vegetarian, but because the recipes are so flavorful and a joy to prepare. Our family has particularly enjoyed the rich risottos that lend themselves to many variations. I have also given it as a gift to friends who enjoy vegetarian cooking. This is a favorite that always stays close at hand.
This was an instant favourite!.......2006-07-08
The first recipe I tried in this book was the Moosewood Muffins -- which I have now made over fifty times. Yes, they are that good! I actually wrote out the recipe and taped it on a kitchen cupboard so it would always be handy. You can vary it to include *anything*. Even graham crackers. Even three different types of nuts. It accomodates everything; that recipe is magic.
And all of the other recipes in this book are fabulous too. Like every Moosewood cookbook, there is a lot of variation; expect this book to take you everywhere from France, to Japan, and back to America for some vegetarian down home cookin'. The few fish recipes that are included are also excellent.
There are also menu suggestions, which make planning meals easy. And the recipes in this book are also more simple than The Moosewood Restaurant Daily Special or Moosewood Restaurant Celebrates -- though not quite as much as Moosewood Restaurant Simple Suppers, so it's a good middle ground.
If you like cooking, and you also love eating, and you want the food you serve to be healthy and delicious -- I highly recommend this book.
Amazing!.......2006-03-09
This was one of the first cookbooks I got when I first stopped eating meat, and I have loved almost every recipe I've tried. Even most of my meat-eating family liked many of the meals I cook. They are different, and cater to your needs: whether you want to have fun cooking your dinner, or need something to throw together within a half-hour. There are a few dishes that feature fish, but probably 90% of them are completely vegetarian, and there are quite a few vegan dishes also.
This is a GREAT COOKBOOK.......2005-12-21
I have tried dozens of recipes in this book, and i am never disappointed. It's amazing to have such good luck all in one cookbook. I recently became a vegetarian and this book has been a lifesaver. A must have for anyone who enjoys simple nourshing foods.

How to Get Your Dog to Do What You Want.......2006-08-27
This is an excellent book on dog behaviour and what you can do about it. I found it well written, interesting to read and full of great information and insights. As an owner of an intelligent frisky puppy, this book is invaluable to me and I use as my dog's bible..well worth the price.
Brillant suggestions..........2006-05-09
Mr. Eckstein has this book so filled with incredible information. Some of the info truly is coming from your dog's perspective. His suggestions have given me four incredibly trained dogs. I buy this book as a gift for anyone I know who has gotten a puppy and tell them that this is a dog owner's bible.
love your dog.......2005-11-18
Any dog lover should grab a copy of this book. Eckstien is known for adopting pets and transforming them into not only warm, wonderful companions but movie stars, and show winners. Eckstein shares his stories in past books about how he has save dogs and cats from kill shelters and literally certain death, to become extras in tv shows and commercials. Eckstein has worked with both celebrity pet owners and appeared on celebrated tv shows, but he is most comfortable with the dogs and cats he loves. This book was very informative because it explained the mysteries of why my dog chased his tail or burrowed before he used the bathroom, and also great tips on handling, and training my pooch. I liked how he worked on rewards basis and not beating, whipping, or restraining. Overall the book is humane, sensitive to both pet owner and pet, and describes all the areas that you would want to work on with your dog.
Great Advice For Those of Us Owned By Dogs.......2005-05-23
Warren Eckstein brings the same caring and compassion for pets, sprinkled with some light-hearted humor to this book, that he does to his radio shows each week. This is a comprehensive and straight forwardingly written guide book for the care and training of dogs. Warren tells us that many of the problems that we encounter with our canine pets are the result of the dog simply being bored. Given the frenzied pace at which we live, our dogs are left alone for increasing periods of time. He gives us many suggestions for keeping our pets from being bored, going from the simple rotation of toys to the suggestion of an occasional canine playdate or party. He even suggests doggie makeovers and and how to give a doggie massage. I particularly liked his suggestion of using a shake can (an empty soda can filled with some coins and taped closed) as a training aid. When Fido goes yet once again to knock down the kitchen garbage pail, you have already balanced the shake can on top of it, and Fido gets a noisy surprise when the can hits the floor.
Excellent training techniques!!.......1999-06-24
This book was wonderful. Warren Eckstein stressed the importance of using positive reinforcement when training your dog. He taught simple things that can be easily incorporated into your daily life with your pet. This book is a great one to keep on the shelf and refer to for many years to come.
I used these techniques while training both of my labs & I have had excellent success. I highly recommend this book to all dog owners. You'll begin effectively communicating with your pet beyond belief.

The lively variety of popular jewelry made in the 1940s and 1950s could fill a book, and here it is. Thousands of examples of costume and semi-precious jewelry from this era pack these pages in full-color photographs and identifying text. Wonderful advertisements of the period that feature the jewelry add a graphic sense of the clothing styles with which the jewelry was originally worn. Today, this jewelry is collected everywhere. The early designers of the jewelry are being recognized for their originality with new materials. The book organizes this popular jewelry by the materials with which it is made, from rhinestones to pearls, plastics and various metals. With this as a reference, the jewelry can be identified and price ranges can be determined.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Home isn't a house; it's the place you can stop running........1998-07-28
This is a beautiful book that doesn't just deal with how your house looks but how the place where you live--house, apartment, dorm room, whatever--can feed your soul. The author is a single mother who made a "real home" for herself and her daughter. She talks about eating at home more often, finding quiet time there, giving yourself the comforts you can only give yourself at home, and even how to make housecleaning spiritual practice. After I read this book, I stopped feeling like my home was a second job and I just started to exhale there and enjoy it. This is a spiritual, practical, warm, witty, wonderful read.

Book Description
Bob Eggleton has won the Hugo Award for Best Artist several times, as well as the Chesley Award—and this collection of over 100 illustrations proves exactly why he is considered one of today’s most original fantasy and science fiction illustrators. All the paintings are imagined as part of a time capsule sent to aliens, and these fanciful, otherworldly visions include the covers for Daniel Hood’s The Scales of Justice and Larry Niven’s Rainbow Mars. Dynamic commentary by best-selling author Nigel Suckling.

Dinosaurs, Dragons, Monsters Oh My!!.......2000-08-29
Yes, another incredible book by artist and author Bob Eggleton! Not only a treat for the eyes, but inspiration for all those sci-fi collectors as well. If you picked up Book Of Sea Monsters and Alien Horizons then you know you have to add to your already growing collection of Bob Eggleton art.
What is in this book? Well a little bit of everything -- new landscape imagery (a new talent), robots, incredible aliens, dinosaurs, monsters, and dragons. The paintings are shown and a commentary by the artist is given, which pulls the reader into the world of Bob Eggleton. The paper and color used is incredible. Beautiful book, I can't express how delighted I am.
Who will be interested? Everyone! But there are a few people who will be highly interested and really need to get this book -- art students, 3D animators, fantasy readers/collectors, Dragon collectors, robot and alien collectors, Godzilla collectors, sci-fi and fantasy readers, and children (yep, it makes their imagination go crazy). So don't be left in the dark ages, get this book now, you will be happy you did (^_^)!

Book Description
Early on a September morning in 1998, David “Gypsy” Chain and eight fellow Earth First! activists went into the redwood forests of Scotia, California. Their loosely organized plan to protest the destruction caused by the logging industry almost immediately turned farcically tragic. A. E. Ammons, a logger for Pacific Lumber, confronted the group, threatening them in an obscenity-ridden diatribe: if they didn't leave "I'll make sure I got a tree comin' this way!" The group retreated, moving deeper into the wilderness. A short time later, just as they were attempting to confront the logger yet again, Gypsy was dead, crushed to death by a tree Ammons felled.
A GOOD FOREST FOR DYING traces the long history of bitter clashes between environmental concerns and economic interests in the American West and shows why these tensions came to a head in northern California in the 1990s. It tells the story of how Pacific Lumber, once an environmentally friendly, family-owned business, became part of a conglomerate whose business practices made it a ripe target for environmental activists. But A GOOD FOREST FOR DYING is also the story of Gypsy Chain, a troubled young man raised in a loving family. A social misfit in his small Texas hometown, he died in a faraway forest before he had a chance to come to terms with himself and his family. His mother never lost faith in her sometimes wayward, idealistic son. After his death, and helped by a team of shrewd, leftist lawyers, she mounted a fight for justice in the name of her son and the cause of saving the redwoods.
A balanced, highly readable examination of complex, emotionally charged issues, A GOOD FOREST FOR DYING will appeal to a wide audience. Its insights into the inner workings of the radical environmental movement and its dissection of corporate greed and misdeeds are reminiscent of such provocative exposés as A Civil Action and Erin Brockovich. The story of Gypsy’s strange odyssey and the disturbing circumstances of his death–seen primarily through the eyes of his mother–is as powerful and as moving as Jon Krakauer’s classic Into the Wild.

Amazing Life Lessons - A History Unfolds.......2004-05-07
Many of us live our lives without knowledge of what goes on around us. Truly I was unaware of the struggle to save California's old growth redwood forest until my son, David Nathan Chain died in that war. It is often referred to as the "Timber Wars". We all just assume that our magnificent old redwoods are protected. Many of us also assume that people with corporate power will make good decisions for the welfare of our communities. We live in a time that mandates our interest in what is takes place in our country. If we don't, what will we leave our children?
This book was a complex story to tell. It is documented history of actual events where the human side is exposed for it's good and it's bad. Pat Beach has my utmost respect for telling it from all sides and making it a brilliant piece of journalism.
