Book Description
Pushcart Prize winner Ana Menendez landed firmly in the literary landscape last year with the hardcover publication of In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd. Reviewers overwhelmingly agree that she is an important new voice in American fiction: hers is "a bright debut that points to even brighter accomplishments to come" (Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times), a tour de force that is "poignant and varied, emotionally vivid and hauntingly melancholy" (San Francisco Chronicle), and "a Cuban odyssey that conjures up Eugene O'Neill-like drama" (Kirkus Reviews). In these linked tales about the Cuban-American experience and the immigrant experience in general, Ana Menendez has instantly established herself as a natural storyteller who "probes with steady humor and astute political insight the dreams versus the realities of her characters" (Elle). From the prizewinning title story -- a masterpiece of humor and heartbreak -- unfolds a series of family snapshots that illuminate the landscape of an exiled community rich in heritage, memory, and longing for the past. In Cuba I Was a German Shepherd is at once "tender and sharp-fanged" (L.A. Weekly) as Ana Menendez charts the territory from Havana to Coral Gables with unforgettable passion and explores whether any of us are capable, or even truly desirous, of outrunning our origins. "Achingly wise." -- Richard Eder, the New York Times Book Review "Menendez taps into [a] wellspring of broken promises and unfulfilled desires and gives us a ... peek at ... the Cuban-American experience." -- Ariel Gonzalez, The Miami Herald "Menendez offers a lilting narrative that sways soulfully between past and present, longing and regret, joy and tragedy." -- Donna Rifkind, The Baltimore Sun "Superb ... The community that emerges in these pages is one of humor, acute grief, and gifted storytelling." -- Fionn Meade, The Seattle Times "The first work of a young writer with a bright future." -- Jay Goldin, Fort Worth Morning Star-Telegram "A tender and occasionally sharp-fanged portrait of Miami's Cuban-exile community ... Brave and funny and true." -- Ben Ehrenreich, L.A. Weekly "A raucous, heartfelt debut...Deft, talented and hilarious...." -- Junot Diaz
Customer Reviews:
Beautifully written, but repetitive.......2005-12-12
This book is a collection of short stories, all of which involve Cuban expatriates, and many of which have characters in common. All the stories have a tone of melancholy or even desperation, and all deal with themes of loss--loss of husbands, wives, parents, and children, and especially, loss of a homeland. Each story makes beautiful use of language, but they are mostly the sort of stories in which nothing much really happens: a husband can't sleep because he imagines that his wife is unfaithful, a woman waits to see if her husband will survive the raft trip from Cuba, and so on. While I enjoyed each story, I found the collection as a whole repetitive. By the end, I didn't think that the stories had anything new to say.
A Varied Collection of Variable Quality.......2005-03-01
These eleven short stories with recurring characters range from the comic opener to the darkly sinister "The Perfect Fruit" to the almost Argentine magical realism of "Miami Relatives." There are many flashes of brilliance, such as this from "Miami Relatives":
"The Aunt Julia climbs to the top of the table and holds her arms out for silence. 'Today I ate the sun,' she says. 'The darkness was delicious.' We sit staring at her until she opens her mouth and blinds us."
Or the story "The Last Rescue" which is a fevered depiction of insomnia.
However these moments arrive as flashes precisely because the surrounding text is less bright, less interesting, less illuminated by insight. Long stretches seem strained or uninspired. Perhaps, not being Cuban-American, I cannot relate to the experiences related by the author but my general impression is that the book was somewhat uneven.
Not my kind of book.......2003-07-13
I can definitely see how some people would enjoy this book, but it didn't do much for me. I felt some stories were too long winded, especially the one where the husband is having a sleepless night and keeps worrying about his wife's faithfulness to him. It was torture trying to get through that and other stories. Sure, the author could write beautifully, but I didn't feel like I learned anything from the stories or the novel as a whole. A disappointing read.
Amazing Imagery.......2003-01-10
This book completely caught me off guard with its beautifully still scenes of intense imagery. I can't recommend this book enough to people who love authors who have almost a lyrical style. The plot is complex and many of the chapters seem to suspend time in the air. Not arrogant or showy at all, the book is intricately beautiful and a phenomenal piece of art.
A voice for a people of exile.......2002-12-12
Ana Menendez does a fantastic job expressing life as an immigrant. Through humor and uncanny examples and spanish phrases any Cuban is all too familiar with, she brings a sense of nostalgia with her words that reach and communicate not only to the Cuban people but to any group of people anywhere in the world. Fantastic read!

Book Description
On October 3, 1977, Star Hawks premiered and introduced newspaper readers to the best science fiction/action comic strip in the last thirty years. Star Hawks combined the talents of renowned science fiction writer Ron Goulart and famed comic artist Gil Kane. The strip also introduced a two-tiered format to daily newspaper comic strips. Each daily installment of Star Hawks had the look and feel of a Sunday strip. The strip ran for three-and-half years and has never been reprinted in its entirety. This book will reprint the entire continuity of 1,244 strips together with all of the Sunday strips. All the Sunday strips will be presented in full color. The book has an introduction by Ron Goulart together with a comprehensive essay about Star Hawks. Numerous examples of original artwork used in the strip are also used to explain Gil Kane's composition methods.
Customer Reviews:
a missed opportunity.......2006-08-28
If you're here, you presumably already know how great an artist Gil Kane was. Second only to Jack Kirby in terms of his influence on generations of comic artists, I've been hearing about his legendary newspaper strip 'Star Hawks' for years, and always wanted to read it in a deluxe format that did Gil's art justice. Unfortunately, "Star Hawks The Complete Series" isn't it.
Gil's art is, of course, as dynamic and breathtaking as it always was ( as Mark Evanier says, Kane never disappointed ), and the stories, slyly satirical space operas written by SF author Ron Goulart, and later by Archie Goodwin, are fast paced and fun, and there are some great cameos, including Issac Asimov, Hagar creator Dik Browne, and Gil himself as the Jokeresque villain Smiler Tryce. "Star Hawks" really does live up to it's reputation.
BUT publisher Daniel Hermann really has messed up with the production. Hermann is a huge Gil Kane fan, and I enjoyed his other books on him, ( The Art Of The Comics and Art & Interviews ), but the strips reproduced here are just too small!
As the book starts, you get four strips to a page, which is ok, tho' some of Kane's visual dynamism is lessened, but as you go on, the stips get smaller and smaller, until, by the end of the book, you literally need a magnifying glass to even read the dialogue.
I'm at a loss to understand why Hermann went this route, when he could've produced two, or even three, books that showed the artwork off properly, but here it is.I can only assume it worked out cheaper.
To be honest, this probably is the only chance most fans are going to get to see the strip for the forseeable future, so I'd urge any fans of Kane to get a copy, just be aware, it isn't what it could've been.
Not the artist and writers fault.......2005-07-29
My first review of this was 4 stars. That was when I had the book brand new. My enthusiasm has waned considerably when I see how muddled the reproductions are. The strips reprinted in this volume deserve much better treatment than they've recieved. I cannot second guess the reason that these strips are so small other than this was an effort to keep the book affordable.
Problems:
1) The strips are reproduced in 3"X 5" scale which cuts down on the clarity of Gil Kane's crisp, distinctive line work (on pages 20 and 21 there is a sample of the art in an 11" X 7" format and a WORLD of difference can be witnessed in it's visual impact!!).
2) The art appears to be reproduced from stats and not the original art which, further denigrates the quality of line work.
3) The written script is also terribly small. For those of us who read this strip that's a burden because we're now old enough that this fine print is annoying.
4) There are no pages featuring the Sunday color strips within the continuity presented in the book's format. At this tiny size a little color would have been something to distract me from the poor reproduction quality.
Nitpicks:
1) The cover art was one of the most boring images from Gil Kane's art for this strip. Much better and much more dynamic examples are all through this collection. A limited edition print was made some time ago with Jaxon engaging a huge bug beast and that image would have served better as the cover and would have grabbed people's attention to this collection. There are literally hundreds of better pieces of art to use for this cover.
2) The endpapers are just plain boring. The repeated, tiny image of the robodog from the strip making a page pattern was also very lackluster.
3) The book's format is roughly 9 1/2" x 12" running vertically. This format is common for comic strip reprints but the dust cover flaps are too shallow, popping off as soon as the book is cracked open, and the binding, while very accessable, is also somewhat loose feeling. I have to do a little routine to set this on my lap.
What's right:
1) Despite the lack of color strips presented within the continuity there are some examples of full page reproductions in the back of the book. Unfortunately they are reproduced from the newsprint strips and so the color is not very good, and the line work again suffers from cheap printing. One of those strips is actually very nice and clean, but one among fourteen is nothing to crow about.
2)The introduction however is the best part of the book. Again, though, there is a downside to this but this is a purely personal problem that I have. Ron Goulart and Gil Kane are creative innovators in SF and Fantasy. So, why are so many of the examples of art presented in these sections those from superhero comics? Gil tried very hard to expand on what comics could be. He experimented outside of the mainstream so often that it was lush life of creative ideas, most of which, sadly, saw little in the way of mainstream acknowledgement. Star Hawks was an excuse to push both comic strips and the graphic narrative beyond the cliche's that are rife in the publishing world. While not a glowing success Star Hawks deserves better than another rehashing of superhero driven nostalgia for Gil Kane's art.
Another of many chances to get something worth praise out to world has been a let down.
Great strip, great book, great value.......2004-08-25
Just picked this book up. Was a big fan of the strip and this book does it justice. The printing is clear and easy to read, there is lots of documentary material, in addition to the strip reprint itself, and finally I got to read the whole three and a half years. I remember my local paper stopped carrying it after only a year and I wanted to read more, now I've got it all. Also, this is a big book, one inch thick on heavy, nice paper. All in all, great production, and a great value. In closing, the foreword and introduction essay were nice too, well written, accompanied by lots of Gil Kane's original art to boot, impressive.
A Fantastic reprint!.......2004-08-24
I have been waiting for twenty-five years for this strip to be re-printed and Hermes Press has finally gotten it right. Ron Goulart, the strip's author writes a nice forward and there is a really comprehensive essay about the strip's artist, Gil Kane, as well. But seeing all the strips re-printed in one volume is fantastic. The strip is a classic and to have it so well reproduced with crisp printing is an added bonus. Hoorah, my dreams have been answered!
A classic strip badly manhandled.......2004-08-06
Ron Goulart and Gil Kane created the classic Star Hawks comic strip 25 years ago, and since its conclusion, the strip's stories have been reprinted several times--but the series as a whole has never been reprinted (earlier reprints always omitted some of the strips). So when word went out that a publisher was going to reprint the entire strip, from start to finish, it sounded too good to be true.
It is. The production values alone on this book are incredibly poor. Strips are warped and misprinted, artwork is frequently, badly and obnoxiously retouched, spelling and grammar errors abound in the text portions. There're nothing like excellent production standards--and this book has nothing like excellent production standards.
To see the story complete after so long (I read it when it first appeared, and still have my original clippings) is great; I'm just incredibly disappointed that complete amateurs were put in charge of _producing_ it. The best bet would be to wait until a revised (and much-cleaned up) reprint might come about; unfortunately, that seems highly unlikely.
If you can find any of the more recent strip reprint books, buy them instead. You'll get better production on newsprint than these folks turned in on slick, distractingly-glossy paper.
A disappointed Star Hawks fan

Book Description
This charming book is a series of entertaining and thought-provoking musings, mainly about the imagination, the sense of identity, the compulsion to write, and Isaac Asimovwho, as Janet Asimov says, was good at all of them. Dr. Janet J. Asimov, a psychiatrist and celebrated fiction writer, has penned this delightful memoir with insight, poignancy, and wit on topics that she and her husband, Isaac Asimov, found especially meaningful over the years. From profound issues such as religion, philosophy, sex, personal identity, and mortality, to lighter subjects such as traveling together, camping, the golden thirties, and the problems and joys of writing, Asimov reveals many new and fascinating details about two engaging and creative people whose greatest creationin addition to their writingswas the life they made together.
Replete with new information about Isaac Asimov and never-before-published excerpts from his witty letters to her, in addition to family photos, this collection of personal reminiscences complements Isaac Asimov's highly acclaimed one-volume autobiography, It's Been a Good Life, which Janet Asimov edited. The Times Literary Supplement praised it as "an excellent introduction to his vision and his personality." Janet Asimov concludes this singular memoir with her own short stories, many published in magazines, but never before collected together in one book. Notes for a Memoir is guaranteed to delight, entertain, and inspire.
Customer Reviews:
A very personal, fine memoir........2006-09-24
NOTES FOR A MEMOIR ON ISAAC ASIMOV, LIFE, AND WRITING is both a autobiography of Janet's life with her famous husband, scientist and writer Isaac, and survey of IsaacAsimov's ideals and values. Plenty of books have been written on Asimov's contributions and science, but few offer the personal and witty insights of NOTES FOR A MEMOIR, which details the life they had together. There's plenty of new information you won't find elsewhere, along with excerpts from his letters to her and family photos, making it a 'must' for any Asimov fan. A selection of Janet's short stories concludes a very personal, fine memoir.

Not Much of a Memoir.......2006-07-18
This book is not a memoir, but rather a collection of musings on various subjects that sprang from the mind of Isaac Asimov to whom the author was married. While there is some interesting material here, it really is not worth the hefty price tag. You are better off reading Isaac Asimov's autobiographies. If you insist on reading this work, wait for it to show up at the local public library or get it on interlibrary loan instead.
A Delightful Book, An Enjoyable Read.......2006-06-26
Not a deep and heavy duty book, but amusing, entertaining and an overall delight. For instance in a story about Alaska in the winter being told by her brother he said, 'if you took off your glove and your hand froze to something metal, the air force advice was to urinate on said hand because urine would probably be the only source of warm water you'd have with you.'
Isaac's comment, 'think of what could happen if a woman's hand gets frozen onto metal. The solution is for women never to go anywhere without the company of some obliging male.'
That's kind of the tone of the book. It's a loving rememberance of their life together. Janet and Isaac were married almost twenty years, and it appears to have been a happy marriage based on mutual respect, mutual admiration and love. The book is the same. Janet's happy marriage is just an indication of her happy life. It's a delightful book, well worth your time.
interesting background .......2006-06-13
This is not a biography of Isaac Asimov, though it is of course mostly about him. It is a grab-bag of chapters about various aspects of their lives together, and of her background. The latter can be of interest to those who read Isaac's works, and want some knowledge of his wife.
Some sections complement what Isaac already wrote. For example, in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction magazine, he reported on his experiences in going to dinner with Mikhail Gorbachev at the White House. But Janet fills in some missing details. Like how he was severely ill at the time. (It was shortly before his death.) And how she could not attend the actual dinner, but wangled her way into the White House, since she was a doctor and Isaac needed his medications.
The book also gives more details about Isaac's trenchant atheism, and his lifelong campaign against religious obscurantism.
Boring.......2006-05-31
I am a huge Asimov fan, so I wanted to like this book. But the truth is, Jeppson doesn't write like Isaac Asimov, and her prose isn't nearly as engaging. Also, the parts about Asimov are recycled in large part from other bios of him I have read, and the parts about Jeppson and her philosophies, life, and feelings simply held no interest for me.

Book Description
Before you arrived at the restaurant, your friends all ordered a large pizza—half pepperoni, half sausage. As the solo vegetarian, you discreetly add a small cheese pizza to the order—with peppers and onions, of course! Welcome to the world of a vegetarian in an otherwise carnivorous population.
Vegetarianism has found itself growing in popularity, whether for religious, health, moral, or many other reasons. Still, it’s not uncommon to be the minority in a large group of people based on your vegetarian lifestyle. Going to a restaurant, a dinner party, traveling, and holidays (think: tofurkey!) can often be a challenge for many vegetarians. Being Vegetarian For Dummies helps you choose the vegetarian lifestyle that is right for you, whether you’re a vegetarian in the making or if you’ve been a vegetarian for years . With the helpful advice this guide provides, you’ll:
- Discover the vegetarian food guide pyramid
- Figure out true benefits of vegetarianism
- Find out how to reinvent your favorite recipes
- Learn how to arrange for vegetarian foods at wedding, banquets, and other social events
Best of all, Being Vegetarian For Dummies tackles head-on some of the most common questions that vegetarians often face when someone learns of their dietary lifestyle. Aren’t you lacking a ton of vitamins and minerals? What exactly do you eat? Don’t you get tired of salads? Isn’t it dangerous to be vegetarian when you’re pregnant? The list goes on—mainly because most people don’t have a clear understanding of what being a vegetarian really entails. Being Vegetarian For Dummies offers you all you need to know to make smart, healthy choices, and also covers:
- Deciding whether to switch to vegetarianism overnight or gradually
- Finding vegetarian sources of protein
- Ensuring that you have a healthy vegetarian pregnancy
- Vegetarian diets for children and teens
- Understanding what’s really in your food and other products
Being Vegetarian For Dummies definitely promises that you won’t be eating grilled cheese sandwiches for the rest of your life.

Best book out there...........2007-07-06
Wonderful explanations, definitions etc. All you could ever ask for in a book! Thanks to this book I am so much more educated on being vegetarian!
Still a dummy.......2007-03-26
It is freggin hard to be a vegetarian in a meat eating world that is for sure. It is a good read, but you have got to be motivated to go meatless. I have not gotten there yet.
Wonderful resource for those interested in a vegetarian lifestyle.......2006-02-07
I'm extremely impressed with the amount of information that his book contains and it's clear cut, and interesting layout. Being Vegetarian for Dummies, is chocked full of nutritional information, as well as common myths. What I found most helpful about this book was its real world approach to being a vegetarian. I've read many books on the topic, but this book really seems to take into account the fact that as a vegetarian you will have to interact outside the confines of your own kitchen. It gives suggestions on how to support your vegetarian lifestyle while on vacation, in office settings, while over someone else's home. The book gives multiple options for those who follow either an ovo-lacto or vegan lifestyle. I highly recommend this book for those interested in learning more about being a vegetarian, but I do suggest you look at multiple sources, there are other books that focus more on the importance of individual vitamins and minerals, and their optimal food source.
Good info but too preachy.......2004-07-06
This book follows in the same tradition as the other Dummies books. The book covers basics about being vegetarian and what you need to watch out for if becoming purely vegan. However, the author preaches to the reader, in essence saying "what has taken you so long, dummy, to become a vegetarian? Don't you know it's the right thing to do?" I have also read another book called "Becoming Vegetarian" (original version; the authors now have a newer version available) by Vesanto Melina, et al. I thought the information was presented in a very organized fashion without any preaching or finger-pointing. I would highly recommend the Melina book over Dummies.
Great resource - fun to read!.......2003-07-30
I ordered three books on becoming a Vegetarian, and stayed up late last night to finish this one. It is great - very informative, without too much technical jargon. Just down-to-earth "how to" stuff, without "preaching" vegetarianism. I highly recommend this book if you are thinking about adopting a vegetarian diet, or just want to eat healthier.

This book seems more like an insert breed here kind of book than a book about Dachshunds. I am a first time owner and I found Dachshunds for Dummies a much better book.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Dachshunds.......2006-02-20
This book is fantastic! It's very informative and extremely easy to read and understand. I would recommend it to anyone interested in adding a Dachshund to their family.
Great Book!!.......2004-10-10
This is a really great book for beginners like me! I have had dogs my entire life but never had a Dachshund and this book really helped me understand the unique ways of these great dogs! I highly recommend it to anyone who want to get or already has a dachshund!
Great book!.......2003-07-22
Everything was easy to find and explained in detail, from picking out the perfect dog for you to diseases and problems to look out for. A must have for first time dachshund owners!
From a Dachshund owner!.......2002-12-16
I share my home with three Dachshunds and bought this book with skepticism as I don't consider myself an Idiot! However, I really do like this book. The author obviously knows our breed and has tailored the standard Idiot's guide format to the breed. There was some good research done, and great information for both new Dachshund owners and experienced ones. I particularly liked the information on health threats Dachsies face. This book is well worth its cost!

Book Description
In the forty years since he first appeared on the New York art scene, Andy Warhol has become synonymous with Pop Art--and with the wry definition of fame as something that never lasts more than 15 minutes. But Warhol spent his career working so prodigiously as to assure long lasting renown. In the printmaking field alone, his output was prolific, and his appropriation of silkscreen as a fine art medium forever altered the way prints look. This thoroughly revised and expanded fourth edition of Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne: 1962-1987 traces Warhol's complete graphic oeuvre from his first unique works on paper in 1962 through his final published portfolio in 1987. More than 1,700 works are illustrated, an increase of 500 from the previous edition of the catalogue raisonn , and complete documentation is provided for each. New additions include a section focusing on Warhol's popular portraits, with documentation of prints that were related to paintings commissioned during the 1970s and 1980s and a new supplement featuring prints and illustrated books from the 1950s, including the beloved 25 Cats Named Sam and One Blue Pussy. There is also an eight-page essay by Donna De Salvo addressing Warhol's self-published books and portfolios from the same era. An extensive chronology of printmaking activity, a complete exhibition history, a selected bibliography, and a greatly expanded appendix to published prints, complete the book. Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne: 1962-1987, in its fourth edition, will continue to be the critical reference tool for scholars, collectors, auction houses, libraries, curators, and art dealers.

excellent Buyers guide.......2007-04-30
With a lot of so-called bargains on ebay, this really helps to verify if it is an athentic Warhol print. Good are the infos on Warhol's "after" prints like Sunday B. Morning.
only for true lovers.......2007-03-23
This is more of an encyclopedic collection. Get it only if you are a student (or more than just a fan). To be sure, there are many, many beautiful images (as was much of Warhol's work esp in the 80s) but most of the images are 2-inch or 4-inch squares. This is not a coffeetable book designed for delightful perusing and seeing large images.
ANDY WARHOL PRINTS: A CATALOGUE RAISONNE' 1962-1987.......2005-12-19
UNLIKELY IMPORTANT IS THE POMP AND DUSTY RESOLVE FROM ONE REVIEWER. THIS IS WITHOUT EQUAL A HAND BOOK FOR THE SILKSCREEN PRINTER. A VIRTUAL BLUE PRINT OF COLOR AND COMPOSITION LAYERED IN COMPLEX RICHNESS .
FOR THIS REVIEWER, PROCESS,PROCESS,PROCESS IS WARHOLS GIFT TO ART HISTORY {EVEN IF HIS ART IS MISTAKENLY THOUGHT OF AS VAPID . }
MASTERED BY SUCH PRINTERS AS ALEXZANDER HEINRICI AND RUPERT JASEN SMITH, SILKSCREEN PRINTING IS IN FACT A VERY COMPLEX ARTFORM.THESE PRINTS WHERE NOT MADE WITH THE AID OF COMPUTERS, SUCH AS TODAYS "ARTISTS" EMPLOY.RATHER THIS BODY OF WORKS ARE PAINSTAKENLY PRODUCED BY HAND EITHER BY WARHOL OR BY ARTISAIN PRINTERS.
COMPLEX PHOTOGRAPHIC MEANS ARE EMPLOYED FOR WARHOLS STENCIL MAKING. AS IMPORTANT TO ART HISTORY AS SENEFELDERS LITHOGRAPHIC PRESS INVENTION, SO WILL SILKSCREEN TECHNIQUES ANDY WARHOL PIONEERED. PERHAPS WARHOLS WORK WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IMPORTANT TO ART HISTORYS FUTURE PERVEYORS.IT WILL IN FACT BE TESTIMATE THAT A PRINTMAKING MEDIUM WAS MASTERED AND BARRIERS PUT DIRECTLY IN WARHOLS PATH BY BROW BEATEN ART CRITICS WAS CRUSHED,BECAUSE WARHOL GOT HIS REAR END OFF THE COUCH AND DID SOMETHING. I RATE THIS BOOK AS A 10 AND IS A MUST FOR STUDENTS OF PRINTMAKING AND MODERN ART.
SINCERELY PETRA
Triumph of Quantity.......2005-08-28
All the prints, those published and unpublished by Warhol. A lot of color and the layout is good. There's a good essay (by Donna De Salvo) to introduce what Warhol's printmaking was about.
As much as it may impress, seeing all these prints, unfortunately, conveys a Warhol on autopilot. The "machine" he spoke of wishing to be. Apart from a few famous themes Warhol's prints may represent a triumph of quantity over quality. Prints of many different contents but of the same mechanism, silkscreening, begin to look alike. The selection of images, initially striking in the few deservedly famous subjects (e.g. Marilyn, Jackie, the electric chair, flowers, self-portraits, the soup can, Mao), seems mostly mundane, perhaps tacky. No artist has perhaps created so much forgettable work. But the diversity holds the promise of leading you (and me) beyond any initial limiting set of favorites. Warhol attacked from many directions.
After all, how much I'd like to have Marilyns or his flowers on my walls, to begin with. You have plenty to pick from in this book: even finding ten great images may be worthwhile. And, over time, as you change, your favorite Warhol prints may change.
At the back of the book are a chronology and exhibition history which focus on the prints. At almost 400 large pages using excellent paper, this good value is made to stay. Nevertheless, one is left wondering whether the drive to create or the drive for wealth was stronger.

Customer Reviews:
Directed at the expert, fine for the fan, too!.......2002-12-04
I would like to add to the reviews below that this book is a pleasure to hold and to view because it is so well made. If there is any 'art' book that should be made for posterity it is the catalog raisonne of an artist. In this instance, the publisher has done the artist's audience a real service for, the book is beautifully printed and bound in Italy by Amilcare Pizzi; Italy seeming to have usurped Switzerland's place as the world's premier art book printer. The pages are thick and glossy and the reproduction is top notch.
For those of you who are unaware of what a catalog raisonne is, it is meant to be a compilation and historical record of an artist's work that documents execution date, medium, size of image or plate, size of edition if a print, whether signed or unsigned, etc. This information is used by artists, historians, collectors and dealers to attribute a piece of art and place it in the artist's oevre, and of course to aid in placing relative value on it. Here too, the archivists, publisher, and editor have done a fine job of documenting the relevant facts. This is especially important in the case of Warhol who was a serial printer, sometimes to the point of intentional promiscuity. So, the fact that wherever possible relevant information is provided speaks volumes about the prodigious effort that must have gone into this undertaking. I rate this book four stars because I fear that since this is the third edition, there will be yet another edition published that renders this one obsolete. I understand this is precisely because Warhol was an inprecise documentarian, when he chose to do so at all, but I don't relish having to purchase another high dollar, though valuable book that is only slightly different from the one I already own. For people who don't give a darn, the book rates a five.
Andy Warhol Prints.......2001-11-03
This 3rd edition of Andy Warhol Prints gives much information to someone who is interested in the various published and unpublished works which Warhol created. In addition to providing color photographs of the prints, the book gives details about the edition size and characteristics of each individual portfolio. This book will be quite useful for the Warhol fan, art students, as well as collectors of Warhol's work. It is the most definitive book of his prints available.
Definitive Guide to Warhol.......2000-05-23
Prints, proofs, paintings -- everything is here, plus essays that explicate and set context.
The best catalog of Andy's Prints.......1998-06-15
This gem of a book gets into all the details of Warhol's print making. See source images as well as artist's and printer's proofs. A must for any collector wanting to explore Warhol's work as well as a real eye opener as to how busy this man really kept himself.
Book Description
The autobiography of the important Jewish immigrant novelist.
Here is Anzia Yezierska's life story, from the Polish ghetto to the sweatshops of New York's Lower East Side, from success as a writer in Hollywood in the 1920s to disillusionment and a return to poverty. With courage and emotion, Yezierska reveals what success and failure felt like and what they meant to her, as a woman and as an artist.

An Amazing Life.......2005-07-08
This is an extraordinary account by the author of one of the great, but insufficiently known, American novels, Bread Givers. Although Anzia Yezierska offers the book as an autobiography, that is not literally the case. Instead, the book includes selective episodes filtered through memory and ego and supplemented with some misleading "facts." Nevertheless the compelling narrative is always fascinating. There are no better introductions to immigrant Jewish life, especially as seen through the eyes of young women, than Yezierska's incredible work.
