This is the final and fourth of the "Guardian" series by Irene Radford. The story is set in the time of Queen Elizabeth I and the descendants of Merlin, Hal & Deirdre, continually embark on spy missions to save the Queen and England. The forces of Chaos are always threatening to destroy what Elizabeth has built. These forces come in the forms of werewolves lead by an magical madman known as "El Lobo." He seeks to put Mary Queen of Scots on the throne in Elizabeth's place only be the power behind the throne and make her a puppet queen.

The constant exciting missions fraught with magic and sorcery will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is very exciting reading that keeps you wondering will evil or good prevail.

superb historical fantasy.......2003-04-12

Griffin Kirkwood was supposed to be this generation's Pendragon but he turned his back on his magical heritage to become a catholic priest. His twin brother Donovan was too weak to pick up the mantle so the Pendragon skips a generation. Griffin's daughter Deidre and Donovan's son Hal journey to France with familiars to prevent the massacres that are imminent. While working the spell, Hal is captured by El Lobison and turned into a werewolf.

He escapes and keeps his distance from the family for many years while Deidre becomes a spy for Queen Elizabeth I. Time after time Deidre helps prevent the plots of Mary, Queen of Scots to oust Elizabeth. Mary eventually goes too far and forces Elizabeth to act. Knowing that if Mary is executed, Philip of Spain's armada will launch, Deidre begs Elizabeth to stay her hand. When her efforts fail, Deidre is willing to use powerful magic that may end up killing her to keep England safe but Hal refuses to see the love of his life die.

The Merlin's Descendants series uses magic to explain pivotal historical events that played a key role in the history of Great Britain. Although never formally invested with the title, Deidre is her generation's Pendragon because she puts England's need above her own, willing to give her life to see her country stay free. Hal is more of a tragic heroic figure who doesn't succumb to his werewolf nature and is a proper mate for Deidre even if they are first cousins. Irene Radford's latest novel is a magnificent fantasy epic using real historic events and people to make the story line seems believable.

don't be afraid of this book! it is very similar to wilton in many of the techniques but it also applies a more realistic edge than the cheap and fake looking flowers that wilton teaches you to make. if you're the kind of person that finds it easy to follow pictures this MAY be the book for you. a very nice chef once showed me this book and it was the only thing that could get me to make some really nice looking flowers :) to each their own i suppose.

I was dissapointed in this book. These methods and flowers are the same ones that Wilton has been teaching for a large number of years. I was expecting new and easier methods of making flowers. I will not recommend this book. It was a waste of my money.

This is the official publication of The American Kennel Club(AKC)so it stands to reason that it is quite elaborate and authorative; afterall, this is the 20th edition.If you want specific information about all the different breeds than this book is for you. Naturally the book only recognizes the breeds that are AKC and believe me, there are many others out there but yet to be officially recognized. For breeders, the information is valuable as all the official chacteristics and faults are mentioned for each part of the body. For general pets of a specific breed, and not show dogs the information is equally as valuable . For prospective buyers of a specific breed this book will help you to make sure the dog you get get doesn't have any serious faults of the breed characteristics. Overall this book is quite useful for anyone who owns a dog . Dog lovers will enjoy the book for general browsing to learn all about the other breeds. This is a great reference tool to have when viewing the different dog shows. I found the historical information rather fascinating. It is fun to learn about the different breeds since many are rarely seen in the general population. If you love dogs you will love this book.

The AKC Complete Dog Book has been the singlemost valuable reference that I have used in 36 years of pet grooming. It has provided a solid foundation of how each breed is supposed to look, as well as the breed standard on which that appearance is based. It is the first book I reach for when learning or teaching grooming of a new breed. It also serves as a way to show pet owners an example of how their breed is presented on which we can base modifications for their individual pet. I would not groom without this book!

Don't get me wrong, this book has ALOT of in-depth information about your favorite AKC breeds, but they could have atleast changed the pictures of the breeds through the book....they left the same ones they have been using forever (most everyone I could see) the only difference between this book and the previous edition is the addition of a few breeds recently accepted and different color pictures of the breeds in the special pages in the middle of the book. It's a good book, I'm not sorry that I bought it, but come on....be a little more diverse if you are going to print another adition...get creative!

You will find thirteen wonderful designs for Counted Cross-Stitch in AMERICA'S BEST-LOVED CATS book by Linda Gillum. She has picked thirteen different felines in tabby orange; soft grays, blacks, whites of the American Shorthair; the tan and white of the Persian; the luscious chocolate of the Burmese; the mottled tan/black/white of the Maine Coon and the almost white of the Siamese.

The first page shows you the basic "how-to's". All the designs are shown in full color with charts large enough so you don't need a magnifier to see what colors go where as each design covers at least two full pages. She shows various forms to display your work when you have completed the project such as pillows or pictures in frames. On the last two pages, Ms. Gillum even provides the directions for creating the four different pillows shown in her book.

If you are a cat lover what better way to spend you relaxation time but stitching your favorite cuddly friend?

Treats the physical environment of the workplace as an important strategic element in changing organizational culture. The first two parts of the book make the case, the third outlines a broad philosophy of design and ways of treating space to meet relationship needs.

Most people concerned with change management do think about physical design issues: this book is helpful in framing the issues and possible solutions and in highlighting the linkage between types of activity and relationship and appropriate physical design. It is written for the generalist manager or OD specialist and does not go into architectural detail, but does clearly highlight the way in which physical space affects culture and performance. It is easy to read and has some very wry cartoons scattered through it.

Fundamental errors .......2005-02-06

We live in a world in which there are two billion Christians and around thirteen million Jews. We live in a world after the Holocaust where more than one- third of the Jewish people were murdered. We also live in a world in which the Jewish people are presently under attack from a radical Islamic fundamentalism aimed at destroying the Jewish state of Israel. We live in a world in which thousands of Christian missionaries feel that it is more important to convert the thirteen million Jews than it is to work either on themselves, or on the other four billion people of the planet who are neither Christians or Jews.All this being the case it seems to me that the author had a duty to write a work that would strengthen Jewish identity and peoplehood, and not make it more questionable. Thus it seems to me completely insensitive of the author to put so many founders of Christianity as 'most influential Jews' I think that they belong rather in a book called ' Most Influential Christians'.
Secondly, does it really make much sense to put the creators of Superman in a book with Biblical figures?
Jewish history ( a third point)is filled with remarkable figures who make some of the American pop figures the author chooses small and insignificant.
The author, it seems to me, might better have done a book on the them ( Jews who have done the most good for their own people.)

An informative and quite useful book.......2001-05-06

Unlike one reviewer on this site, I found this book to be a delightful read, and especially appropriate for teenage Jewish readers. This is not heavy reading, rather this is bedtime reading that is both informative ("Did you know so-and-so was Jewish?") and on occasion thought-provoking. Far from being anti-Jewish, as has been implied, I found the book to provoke pride in one's Judaism. And the lighter touches (about the Jewish origins of the inventors of Superman, for example) are much appreciated.

INFLUENTIAL MINDS.......2000-09-04

Shapiro's broad sweeping work contains rankings of those whom he considers the top 100 Jewish thinkers and movers of western civilization. His book is not designed to be a detailed analysis of these lives but instead, a snap shot commentary on how each individual impacted their area of expertise that influenced their Jewish community and the world. The rankings of course are subjective and arbitrary and are not that helpful as to why one person's contributions is ranked higher than another.

One must remember that this work is not an intellectual tome but a nice easy to read book to see who's who in the Jewish world. This work contains many flaws and arouses some serious questions.

1. Very few women are contained in the book. Are we to assume that Jewish women on the whole had very little impact in the western world?

2. Shapiro is a great apologist for Christianity as he glosses over the negative impact of that religion upon Judism. Granted Jesus, Mary, Saul and Judas were Jews but the religion that was spawned from them resulted in a negative impact on Jews world wide. Christians baited Jews as Christ killers, forced conversions upon Jews (inquisition) and through their silence allowed the extermination of 6 million Jews.

3. One of the most important questions is how does one determine who is a Jew? Although many of the names are famous, some were of mixed marriages ( Proust, Bohr, etc.) where Judism was absent in their lives and they converted to Christianity. Also included were those who denied their heritage or were non-practicing. Should they have been included regardless of their Jewish background?

In any case this book is a good resource book for young teenagers, young adults and other people who wasnt a broad survey of Jews who impacted upon western civilization

A Book that is Not About Jews.......2000-05-26

From the title of the book you think the book is about Jews, however the author puts the Jews he is referencing to down, or he compares them to Jesus. I thought I was getting a book on great Jews. For example the author would talk about Moses, then make comments about Jesus totally for no reason unless he is a "Jew for Jesus". I really do not understand the author's motive, but I learned that you can not judge a book by its cover.

GREAT LIST ON A GREAT PEOPLE..........1999-06-10

Well, objectively speaking, I must say I think Jesus had quite a greater impact on history than Moses, but we won't quibble: they're both awesome figures by anyone's measure. I recommend this book to all Jews & Gentiles who need to think through the tremendous contributions of the Hebrew race to all areas of human civilization. I can easily conclude, after going through this remarkable list, that some "special blessing" rests upon the children of Israel. May their tribe increase forever.
