Innovative, creative recipes that work.......2004-05-31

I am rapidly trying all the recipes in this book and have gained confidence that they all will work. I am being introduced to condiments and ingredients new to me. Lower calorie isn't plain and bland, but exciting. The results are spectacular and could be served confidently to the most discriminating guests with gourmet palates. I am very grateful for this collection of easy to prepare recipes and for the subtle ways they are teaching me to eat lower calorie foods and think out of the box. This cookbook is now my decided favorite and I will purchase more copies as gifts.

ANOTHER [CHEAT].......2003-10-07

I was actually a client of Dr. Shapiro's and he is only interested in one thing-MONEY! He has made a nice living for himself with his books, but the nutritional education he offers is minimal and his books don't really offer anything but a fad diet. He drained my pockets, offered me disgusting powders as meal supplements and to top it off I did not lose more than 5 pounds during my entire two months as his patient. I followed his diet religiously everyday with zero result. I never reached my goal weight. I have since been successful after joining Weight Watchers and a local gym. Trust me, this book is NOT worth the money (not even for free) and I would have been better off spending my money at Barney's (across the street from his office in New York).

Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss Cookbook.......2003-01-31

The recipies are very tasty, but many of the ingredients are things that were not routinly kept in my home. Most of the recipies involve salads of some sort which was disappointing. On a better note most of the recipies can be completed in less than 30 minutes which is nice when you are in a rush.

The book also opens with his plan for healthy eating and therefore you really do not need to buy his weight loss book as well.

Any scrapbook idea book that has something else besides kids in the layouts deserves at least three stars. I gave this four because the layouts are beautiful and I got several ideas for pages about my cat. The reason why I didn't give it full five stars was that I was hoping for more pet quotes and inspiring text. Also I felt other than stark white background would have complemented the layouts better. However definitely worth the money.

I really love scrapbooking my dog Wesley. He loves to have his picture taken and poses quite well for me. I am always looking for great page ideas and this book provided me with what I was looking for. I also like how it covered other animals also as my family goes to our zoo at least once a year. My pets are dogs. I absolutely loved the page layouts in this book. They were stylish and imaginative. Very "current" layouts and some great ideas.
I also recently bought "Its All About Pets And Animals (Memories in the Making Scrapbooking)", but this book by Stacey Panassidi had much better pages in my opinion. More dogs!!

The one thing I would like to see more of is ideas regarding colors of pages for dogs. Dogs come in many, many colors and it is not always easy to figure out what color pages to use to feature your pet. Otherwise this was a GORGEOUS great book.

Though most of the artists in this New York professional group have websites of their own, as well as their Society site, to see samples of their work, the book is well-printed in excellent color and easy to take to meetings, stick in a briefcase and discuss with clients, or simply review when you're tired of peering into the monitor. The book itself offers a broad survey of illustration styles, useful to others in graphic arts. Also, the rendering services that are promoted here are of interest beyond the New York region, just as New York architects do work all over the world. It's a semi-annual publication that I've followed and used since it began a dozen or more years ago.

During the 1930s and 1940s, when America had little interest in addressing racial inequality, Luther P. Jackson became a leading voice in the struggle for racial justice. This biography tells the story of the professor and political activist who cajoled, implored, and lobbied black Virginians to vote--a man who fervently believed that education was at the core of the search for social change.

Long before the sit-ins and freedom marches of the 1960s, Jackson strove to erase the assumptions of racial inferiority that infected African Americans. Understanding that blacks had to change their minds before they could change their world, he set out to make people "vote conscious."

Descended from ex-slaves, Jackson was born in 1892, attended school in Lexington, Kentucky, and received bachelor's and master's degrees from Fisk University in Tennessee and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Until his untimely death in 1950, he taught at Virginia State University in Petersburg. Convinced that teachers could sow the seeds of racial equality, he mobilized them along with their students and families. By publishing, organizing, and proselytizing on behalf of voting, Jackson stimulated a political awakening among black Virginians.

As a target for racial recrimination and hostility, Jackson walked a tightrope of protest and accommodation, one that jeopardized his health, family, and career. Yet he was a tenacious optimist with faith in the political process. He took the long view, Michael Dennis notes, recognizing that failed legislative maneuvers did not render conventional institutions useless.

Largely forgotten, even in Virginia, until the author resurrected his story, Jackson was involved in almost every important civil rights and liberal initiative in the South in the second quarter of the 20th century. His forceful program of political education laid the groundwork for the full-fledged assault on segregation of the 1950s, when Martin Luther King and other leaders of the civil rights movement emerged to stand on Jackson's shoulders.

This is an outstanding biography of an early civil rights activist who has not received adequate attention for his pioneering work in voting rights for African-Americans in Virginia prior to 1950.

Professor Dennis' work discusses Jackson's remarkable family as well as his innovative work in forging progressive coalitions in Virginia to support voting rights.

Hopefully, this biography will spark other studies of Jackson.
