Reading this book is a real joy. If you loved the TV shows or the movies, I think this will be a real treat for you. The only problem is that it is such a quick read (because I had trouble putting it down), that it is difficult to really "soak up" the flavor of the writing. I don't recommend starting this book the week before final exams, because if you're like me, you'll neglect studying!
Amusing Collection of Zorro Stories.......2001-08-06
This is a collection of some Zorro stories written by Johnston McCulley, the creator of Senor Zorro, from old pulp magazines. The stories are "Zorro Saves A Friend", "Zorro Hunts A Jackal", "Zorro Deals With Treason", "Mysterious Don Miguel", "Zorro Draws His Blade" and "Zorro Upsets A Plot". The book also contains a checklist of all Zorro stories on pulp magazines; good reference for Zorro fans.
The situation of these stories is a little different from that of "The Mark of Zorro", the very first Zorro novel written by McCulley. For example, in "The Mark of Zorro", nobody dreams that languid Don Diego is Senor Zorro, while in these stories, the Army officers suspect Don Diego to be Zorro. The stories mainly describe how the enemies try to trap Don Diego/Zorro and how Don Diego/Zorro brilliantly outwits them. They are amusing and I enjoy reading them.
I would be happier if this book were an ordinary size paperback and much less expensive. But I will perhaps buy Volume Two if available.

Excellent starting point for wanna-be Lobo fans, you have the hand it to the editors of this compilation for wrapping up all those obscure Lobo cameos and dorky (you should see his hair in the Omega Men series!) first appearances in typical twisted Lobo fashion. Atlhough there's no Simon Bisley art except for the cover, it is still a definitive collection about the Main Man. Great companion piece to Lobo: The Last Czarnian.

A very good companion to any Lobo collection, Lobo's Greatest Hits contains bits and clips from tons of Lobo appearances throughout the DCU, as well as new material.
During a storyline that has Lobo chase a white Rabbit (the car, not the animal) into a black hole, we revisit moments in Lobo's life. Some of the comic books that have clips presented are: L.E.G.I.O.N., Justice League International, Omega Men, Mister Miracle, Superman, and Adventures of Superman. In the back of the book is a complete list of these series along with issue numbers of the certain ones used.
If you're a devoted Lobo fan, but the graphic for the original material, some of it's pretty funny. Still, chase down the actual comic books mentioned and read the entire book. By presenting only a few pages from each book the editors are neutering the Main Man as badly as Vril Dox did!
Overall, though, this is a good graphic and starting out place for new fans. However, if you are a new fan and don't already own a copy of Lobo: the Last Czarnian, rush out and grab one now! It's far better than this one!

Boswell and Wyler. What sounds at first like a boutique law office is, in fact, a highly successful concept cookbook production team. They're the ones behind all those 365 Ways to Cook titles. And now, in what appears to be a labor of fun, as well as love, comes A Man and His Pan. Boswell is careful to point out in the introduction that he in no way means to exclude women from his one-pan-does-it-all-cookbook. He just couldn't resist the title.
A Man and His Pan proposes two basic elements of successful cooking: ease of production and even easier cleanup. This is a book based on nonstick cookware. Teflon came out in 1962, but the nonstick cookware of today has about as much to do with those early adventures as the portable typewriter has to do with a laptop computer. As Boswell points out, being careful of temperature and avoiding harsh abrasives are about all the special care this cookware needs. Pick the right pan, Boswell counsels, and you are well on your way to one-pan cooking, which is really what this book is all about.
The eight chapters of A Man and His Pan cover breakfast, red meats, chicken, seafood, one-pan meals, short-order gourmet, sides for all occasions, and pan cooking for kids. The recipes are direct and simple, and bold flavor appears to be the underlying theme. There's a pan-fried steak, for example, with a Madeira-balsamic vinegar reduction sauce that tastes like it's right out of a four-star restaurant, but cooks up in one pan like a charm. In the "Short Order Gourmet" chapter, you'll find a Spicy Peanut Chicken Stir-Fry that can hold its own against any Kung Pao takeout, home-delivered or not.
For anyone who is starting to cook, this is a good place to begin. For anyone who has been knocking out family meals night after night, this is a terrific place to come back to for simple, flavorful ideas. There will be no battles about doing the dishes if you use this book, one pan, and paper plates. --Schuyler Ingle

Excellent recipes make for wonderful food.......2006-03-21
This is the best cookbook to have on your shelf, man or woman! I bought it for my husband via a cookbook club years ago because of the title. Recently we finally started cooking from it and so many of the recipes are hits! In fact, we enjoy it so much that we've purchased copies for male friends whose wives want them to learn to cook better.
Many of the recipes look intimidating at first glance but Boswell really makes them accessible for cooks of all experience levels. What's more the resulting food is delicious! Of all the recipes, I recommend the Meatball and Carrot Ragout (excellent with fresh baguette), the White Pan Pizza (we dress it up with spinach and chicken), the Double-Crusted Turkey Sausage Pan Pizzas, Pan-Fried Steak with Madiera-Balsamic Reduction, and the Turkey, Bacon and Cheddar Sandwiches. Breakfast favorites are the Eggs Florentine with Smoked Salmon and the Frog in the Haystack which, while listed under the kids meals, is really yummy. We've also eaten the Smothered Chicken with African Flavors - quite tasty.
We've found that the skillet needs to be deep sometimes and that our cast-iron skillet (VERY well seasoned) is just as good as the non-stick that Boswell recommends. For novice cooks, however, the non-stick might be helpful.
In all, a great book to have. Too bad it's out of print.

I originally bought this cookbook for my boyfriend (now my husband) to encourage him to learn to cook, and it worked. Everyone I have given this book to (experienced cooks and beginners)loves this book. I use it too! Not every recipe is easy,but that's OK. Some of these recipes have become monthly favorites, such as Red Snapper w/white wine tomatoes and capers and Chicken in Madeira sauce. This book with a 12 inch non-stick skillet is a great housewarming gift.

This is a great cookbook for the novice or the more experienced gourmet. My son-in-law picked it up one day and surprised his wife with a fancy breakfast and and by the following week he prepared three different types of meals for me as a birthday present on thanksgiving week end. Highly recommend it.

I have three of these books, this one, the one from 30 day gourmet, and the Don't Panic book. This was by far the best. It's the only one that divides the recipes into sessions, giving you a grocery list at the beginning of each section of what you'll need for all 5 recipes (though you could very easily just pick one to make, but this layout gives you the option of making several at one time.) The other two are just a compilation of freezer friendly recipes. There is a great variety of recipes, and they all look wonderful. I can't wait to try them! It is written in an easy-to-understand way, and the recipes aren't too complicated either. I am very happy with this book!!!

Deborah Taylor Hough has a talent for not only saving money (she saved $24,000) in five years, she knows how to cook once a week and then enjoy meals every night with her family. In this book she shares her secrets and tips and has divided the book into Mini-Sessions which include a shopping list, preparation instructions and recipes. So, for the Vegetarian Mini-Session you could make Vegetable Fried Rice, Ricotta & Broccoli Pie, Cheese and Vegetable Quesadillas and Three Cheese Lasagna. There are plenty of recipes for Tofu, Beans and Eggplant. The rest of the book is made up of pasta, tuna, crab, pork, beef, turkey and chicken. There seems to be something for everyone in this cookbook.

Good, but not for everyone.......2006-04-07
I picked up a copy of this book at the library because I wanted to see if I could save time and money by making meals in bulk. Being a vegan, I eat a lot of stirfrys, beans, lentils, soups and stews and I thought it would be easy to substitute some ingredients for the non-vegan ones. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The book suggested that you can make the recipes vegetarian by using TVP or tofu but it just doesn't work. So if you're not a vegetarian/vegan this book would be perfect for you.

I bought this book and have read it cover to cover. I thought I knew how to maintain a tank and feeding for a betta until I read this book. It uncovers all the myths that surround betta care even in the pet shops!!!
Excellent for anyone thinking of buying a Betta! They need more than just a bowl to survive. Bettas also need a mini heater, mini filter, and at least a 1 gallon tank per Betta!!!

Ok, this was a kind of nice little book. But not really. The information inside of this book was VERY basic. It never went into details about betta housing (just kept on referring to betta bowls, tiny little bowls in which a betta WOULD NOT be happy in). So thats what took away some starts, was the lack of useful information.
This book had a lot of pictures. Pictures are all well and good, but not in this book. Most of the pictures were of older, boring 'veil tail' finned bettas. Those are bettas of the past. Now we have half moons, and crowntails, so much better. But there was one image of a half moon, and one or two of delta tailed bettas. So the betta community was not represented in the least by this book. Just old veil tails.
Overall, not a good book.

I bought this book because I saw it online and reviewed some of the pages beforehand. One particular quilt in the book caught my eye...I had the "perfect" fabrics in mind for it. The title of the quilt I made was "Star Bright" on page 24. A traditional looking "cockeyed" star. I used Bali/batik fabrics with a dark background fabric. I think mine looks better than the one in the book! This was an inspirational book--sparked my creativity and gave me the chance to use fabrics I wouldn't normally use. Directions were well written (unlike some quilt books!) The quilt I made was only my second one ever! If you have never made an "ART" quilt and would like to make something really cool, fresh, and hip...Get this book.

A good idea, how eager was I to find out there was actually a book about the "Anglophone Problem" even though I have read alot of what is here in Newspapers. The authors take upon themselves to state certain facts about the South West and completely leave out any analyses of the North West. Talking about their anaylses on what the North West-South West divide.Several other issues are treated lightly. This is a nice try but a book mostly one to be read from generations to generations needs to give us an unbaised analyses. We still need a book on what the real problem of one of the minorities in Cameroon is about.Someone give us a fair account.

this book is really a wonderful tool for us to start recongnizing and understanding the fabric of life, and the energy fields that are encoded in Islamic art.
In fact the patterns are present also in other cultures so this book is about the archetypes of creation, the sacred geometries that remind us that the whole inhabits the parts - the undeniable spark that connects all life together. Neatly illustrates the flower of life matrix and its manifestations
For the maths lovers, also a lot on magic squares.
Very well explained in text and wonderfully illustrated. I have mine in an old edition and keep buying as a gift for friends - it's a jewel, Keith Critchlow is a name I respect.
Unreadable Prose, Helpful Drawings.......2007-03-23
The book is well-nigh unreadable. Page after page of impenetrable prose in dense, closely spaced paragraphs, describing complex geometric figures. It is also unsourced: one cannot determine the basis for the author's cosmological, religious and geometric speculations. However, the drawings -- and there are many -- are worth the price. Very helpful to the artist or designer who wishes to understand and incorporate Islamic patterns.

This book is a must for artists, mathematicians, philosophers and anyone else interested in the foundations and rationale of Islamic art.
This book provides a comprehensive insight into Islamic Patterns in a clear and concise way. I have used this book on a number of occasions when I have needed inspiration for drawings, paintings and even for works of management strategy - curiously enough. It has a wonderful way of both focusing and relaxing the mind that seems to encourage channeled creativity.

This book was required when I took one of my college classes. After reading it I knew why. The book offers an inside look into the life of a young woman, hispanic and in a gang. She struggles with many obstacles and in the end pulls herself through. The book is not only inspirational but it is also a demonstration of triumph in spite of obstacles! I give it Five stars and hope that more people can get to reading this book. Maybe instead of requiring it as a college course they should offer it in Junior high's and High Schools. This is the kind of book that should be read.

I am an English teacher at Santa Ana Valley High School, in Santa Ana, CA. Ms Ruiz spoke at Valley several years ago. Her presentation was as memorable as her book, "Two Badges." I bought three copies the day of her presentation, I have since bought ten more. My students love the book. Young men and young women, alike. They relate, and it is such a strong story with a postive, true life ending. Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending on your view) these books do not make it back to my room after being checked out. I am down to three copies. In a way I am happy, in that I know the books are in contiuous use, they are getting passed around to friends. Cool. It is just that I can not afford to buy a bunch more books for my kids this fall.

Being a girl in Santa Ana I could relate to her book........1999-05-21
As a young adult in Santa Ana,California, I could totally relate to most of the things Mona Ruiz wrote in her book. I loved it because just by reading it she made me feel close to her and made me realize even more that there is a way out of that lifestyle,I'm almost there. I was never in a gang like her but I associate with that way of living. I hope she writes more books because I would buy them.
