Wonderful read!!.......2007-01-12
This is Leann's third book in this series and it's my favorite one so far. Brilliant!! All of her books have me guessing throughout the book and it's never who I would of ever expected. I'm addicted. I read the first three books in 2 week period. Now on moving onto the next.
Yellow Rose Mysteries.......2006-12-18
Dead Giveaway, as well as all of the Yellow Rose mysteries, is loaded with fun, with a plot full of twists and turns to keep you reading into the night. Abby Rose is the woman we all want to be: bold, smart and beautiful. I eagerly await Leann Sweeney's next book. Julie Hotchkiss Forbes
Great fun and well plotted.......2006-06-13
This series has Texan heiress Abby Rose as its "detective." Abby is not living off her inheritance, though -- she has started a detective agency specializing in adoption searches (she was herself adopted -- see first book in the series) and wants to help other people in her situation. She lives modestly (drives a Camry) and her boyfriend is a Houston Police Department homicide detective. She has a twin sister with whom she gets along very well and an aunt who is her polar opposite.
The plot in this book involves a 19 year old basketball star who is looking for his birth family. Abby gets a call from the woman who had been the person who had found the baby abandoned on her doorstep 19 years ago. But before she can speak to this rather odd woman again, the woman is murdered (not giving anything away, this is the first ten pages). Abby is convinced that this is related to the adoption search but her boyfriend isn't so sure. Still, he agrees to let her pursue the adoption search as long as she doesn't interfere in the police investigation.
The key seems to be discovering who the parents were and how did the baby end up on this woman's doorstep -- she wasn't an obvious choice.
I read this book in one day and particularly enjoyed the good plotting and likable "detective." I look forward to reading more in this series.
really cute mystery cozy.......2006-04-18
this series is real cute and a easy read. The heroine is smart and not ditzy.
Nice book for a day at the beach, the hammock or to pass the time.
Adoption and Murder.......2006-03-15
Abby Rose is a PI specializing in adoption. She's also a Texas heiress.
Will Knight hires her to find his birth family. He's now a superstar college athlete, but once he was a baby abandoned on a doorstep.
There aren't many clues to his background, just an expensive baby blanket and Verna Mae, the woman who found him.
Abby meets with Verna Mae. She feels she knows more than she is telling. But before they can meet again, Verna Mae is murdered.
Abby is determined to find the truth. She follows the clues from the Huntsville state prison to the richest parts of Houston. Someone feels she's asking too many questions. Can she discover the truth without being silenced?
I really like Abby Rose. She is such a fun and likeable character. She is well written. This is a quick and enjoyable cozy to read! The Texas setting really lends itself to the story, and I highly recommend this book.

Good story of an Unusual hero.......2006-05-25
I truly enjoyed reading Slave of Chu Kutall. The choice for the main character gives the Fantasy Genre a fresh feel. Seeing the world from Nergal's eyes is a refresing change of pace. I've already shared this book with friends.
Awful.......2006-04-27
I was in for quite a shock when I bought this as I was subjected to one of the poorest written books ever published. I kid you not. It is an uninspired story of tired overused characters in a cliche world. It fails miserably to entertain.
The first problem is McCloskey's prose. He writes with a total lack of imagination. Every paragraph seems to drag on, and go no where.
The next problem is the dialog. It is simply poorly written. Who talks like that? Did anyone ever talk like that?
Third, the story is so cliche it really isn't worth getting to the end to see what happened.
With so many other good stories, you are better off looking elsewhere.
Fine fantasies can have improbable heros!.......2006-02-20
"Slave of Chu Kutall" is a witty, action-packed story that twists the conventions of fantasy until the notion of a heroic orc seems quite plausible. The story arc follows the unlikely evolution of the main character, culminating in the Noble Orc as savior, guardian, rescuer, and hero, while to his own nature staying true. Nergal can be as duplicitous and cantankerous as any of his cronies, yet serendipitous events conspire to make him the Forrest Gump of orcs, always in the right place at the right time. Like Forrest, he uses his limited "smarts" very effectively, traveling with an idealistic and sometimes naive band of heros who are all-too-eager to demonstrate their open-minded acceptance of their odd companion. Nergal is slowly enlightened by their example, yet the simple charm of his uncomplicated nature stays consistent to the very last line.
Half-orc bearing gifts.......2006-02-15
Meet Nergal, a half-orc bearing many gifts for the reader of 'Slave of Chu Kutall', gifts of insight into the powerful sensation of hunger, insights into the cruel world of medieval battle with swords, maces and significant physical pain, insights into the mind of a simple-minded but perceptive outsider gradually transformed by his fellow adventurers.
'Slave of Chu Kutall' is labeled a fantasy book but it gets very close to the reality of living in a cruel, medieval world. And it manages to do it in about 300 pages with a fast-paced rhythm, beautifully choreographed battle scenes, hilarious dialogs and vivid characters. It will thoroughly entertain the reader and leave him wanting for more.
One of the best in fantasy.......2006-02-12
McKloskey has captured with incredible ease the worlds created by the likes of Tolkien, Heinlein and Tilley and combined them into a power packed novel for the dedicated of SF & F reader. This adventure novel will easily suit the tastes of both adult and juvenile audiences. If its page turning thrills you're looking for to while away the hours, this is the book to do it with. Follow Nergal through a series of battles as he cuts, slashes, hacks and munches his way through a variety of enemies in circumstances of high adventure. If you've got kids who have never tried SF & F, this is the book to start them off with - its got the lot - wizards, trolls, elves, armoured warriors battling fantastic beasts, deeds of daring and cunning in fantastic lands where only the brave may tread. If you're die hard SF & F fan of the fantasy genre, you'll love it!

Customer Reviews:
It really works!.......2007-04-10
The recipes really are low carb. They are generally low or no-sucrose, too (after all, carbs break down to sugar; they're really much the same thing). These are genuinely useful recipes for dishes you would really want to serve. They use ordinary ingredients most of the time. When an exotic ingredient is required, there will be a footnote telling you where to locate it. These recipes are not complicated; most use no more than five ingredients, and can be assembled within a few minutes. In general, this is a truly practical cookbook.
Cookbook is ok, but could be better.......2007-01-10
I like the idea of this book, but it uses a lot of vegetarian foods that I don't particularly care for. Great for a start up vegetarian, or for a seasoned one, but not really for me. I kept the book, but will edit them more to my liking.
Lower-carb, NOT low-carb.......2007-01-03
Ground meatless (some kind of vegetarian ground meat substitute by Morning Farms) is a staple in this author's recipes. But my biggest gripe is that these recipes are NOT low carb. They lean more toward being low-fat.
Sure, the recipes are lower in carbohydrates than most, but someone following Atkins or similar might be disappointed. Extra-thick Peach Milkshake, which use frozen peaches and fat-free whipped topping (which has sugar in it!) has 26 grams of carbs per serving. That is more than a day's worth of carbs allowed on the Induction plan..
Whole Wheat Muffin Bites: 22 grams per serving; Pork Pastry Squares: 32 grams; Taco Salad: 18 grams...and the list just goes on.
Now, if you aren't following Atkins or some other strict low-carb diet and are just looking to cut back on the carbs and the fat then this book could be a good choice. The recipes look to be simple and the Slow-Roasted Beef & Bell Peppers Stew (10grams) sounds yummy, as does the Zucchini Skillet Dish (6 grams)and Broiled Eggplant Italiano (12 grams).
Low Carb and low fat - is that what you really want?.......2006-03-01
I've read through the whole book, but haven't actually tried any of the recipes yet. They sound good, but she uses non-fat products frequently. A good low carb diet needs good fats included in it. If I use these recipes I will be using products that still have the fat in them.
even kids like it.......2005-09-15
This is my first review but I had to let people know that this book is so easy, fast and the best tasting food I ever made. We tried all kinds of new foods through this book that I normally wouldn't buy. I'm no cook but even my finicky kids loved these recipes. It's also nice to know we're eating healthier. Great book!!!
Sincerely,
Chris from NH

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
All cultures and times have their own notions of time and space. Being one of the fundamental ideas in every society they influence virtually every aspect of society. In this book the authors explain the notions of time and space in China, how culturally concrete and particularly Chinese they are and how significant such Chinese cultural-ness of these notions is. Seventeen scholars of various disciplinary backgrounds have treated topics within this general perspective in a comprehensive way.

Book Description
Are there universal as well as culturally particular experiences and expressions of "time"? Hoyt Alverson questions the widely held anthropological assumption that temporal expression and experience represent little more than local cultural constructions. Drawing on extensive data from four widely divergent languages and cultures--English, Mandarin, Hindi, and Sesotho--he argues that people everywhere experience time in fundamentally similar ways.
Semantics and Experience reveals not only how such expressions vary as a function of ideological and cultural differences but also how, despite these differences, they reveal a basic similarity that points to their origin in a pan-human approach to the construction and cognition of space.

Book Description
Starting with the legends and history of the pandanus tree, this valuable book covers a broad range of information from a description of the hala tree and its many uses to instructions for the weaving of lauhala products made from the leaf. The ancient Hawaiians made numerous items for daily use, from floor mats to sails, food baskets to beds. Directions for cleaning and preparing the leaves for weaving are included along with tips for the care and preservation of lauhala.
Book Description
In 1994 an American writer named Emily Prager met her new daughter LuLu. All she knew about her was that the baby had been born in Wuhu, a city in southern China, and left near a police station in her first three days of life. Her birth mother had left a note with Lulu's western and lunar birth dates. In 1999 Emily and her daughter–now a happy, fearless four-year-old--returned to China to find out more. That journey and its discoveries unfold in this lovely, touching and sensitively observed book.
In
Wuhu Diary, we follow Emily and LuLu through a country where children are doted on yet often summarily abandoned and where immense human friendliness can coexist with outbursts of state-orchestrated hostility–particularly after the U. S. accidentally bombs the Chinese embassy in Belgrade. We see Emily unearthing precious details of her child’s past and LuLu coming to terms with who she is. The result is a book that will delight anyone interested in China, and that will move and instruct anyone who has ever adopted--or considered adopting--a child.
Customer Reviews:
From someone planning a homeland tour.......2007-05-20
The previous reviews show a wide range of reactions to this book. As someone who is about to take her 8 and 4 year old adopted daughters on a homeland tour that will include a brief stay in each of their home towns, I obviously see nothing wrong with taking a child Lulu's age back to China. I didn't agree with everything the author said and did, but the book gave me a lot to think about before we go on our trip. Many of the negative reviews were written in the days when homeland tours were fairly rare. Emily Prager was a pioneer! Many people have taken their adopted children back to China since then and I think we know by now that these trips are generally positive experiences for the children. There are a variety of opinions on the age at which children should return. I think that it really depends on the child and the financial resources of the parent (i.e., how often they can afford to go back).
Ridiculous.......2006-05-06
My husband and I both found this book to be ridiculous. The writer is naive as to what really went on/goes on in a communist country. Did she not do her homework before she adopted? She couldn't believe people actually knew her every move ... what world does she live in? We feel she saw things as she wanted to see things, not as they really are. We also don't find her point of view to be of any help. Let's face it ... the average person does not have the means to spend that kind of money to live in China for 2 months after having spent $20,000 to $30,000 to adopt. We're looking for something more realistic on teaching our daughter's heritage.
Would really like to give it 3.5 stars.......2005-09-01
The book is well written and is fun to read. But as a parent in the process of adopting from China, and a reader with internationally adopted siblings, I agree with some of reviewers that the story tends to gloss over tough issues. Taking a 5-yr old child back to where they were is not a model for curing their problems.
a wonderful story.........................2003-07-11
I loved this book not only because of the wonderful author, but also because LuLu is simply a delightful child. There were many passages in the book that touched me. I didn't read the book because I wanted facts. Instead, I wished to learn more about the interactions between a mother and a child who are not of the same race. I was far from disappointed.
This mother loved her child so much that she wanted to return to the country where LuLu was born so that LuLu could better understand her origins and why she doesn't look like her adoptive mother. Some readers were troubled that LuLu might have been too young, but they are underestimating a child's capacity and resilience. I find LuLu fascinating. I wish her mom (the author) would write more about her adopted daughter and their life together.
A Moving and Beautiful Book.......2003-01-21
As a person who knows a little girl who was adopted recently from Anhui province, I found this book very moving. Not only was it very beautiful and emotional, it also was very interesting. After reading it, I grew to love the characters, especially LuLu, TohToh, and JingJing, and felt like I knew them. The author did a wonderful job of telling this story.
