The 8th book in the Stephanie Plum series is another gem from writer, Janet Evanovich. Fans of the series could not wait to get their hands on this release, and new readers will be delighted at the antics of the characters in these books. In this installment, Stephanie's mother asks her to find a neighbor's missing relative, and family loyalty (and boredom) spurs Stephanie to take on the case. However, when she gets involved, a shady landlord starts warning her off the scent, and suddenly Stephanie finds out his henchman are following her. When various bad things start to happen, (i.e. her car gets blown up again, she is followed by someone in a bunny suit, snakes wind up in her apartment, and a dead body appears on her couch) Stephanie knows she is in way too deep. She enlists the help of the sexy Ranger to help her out of this jam, and also finds herself with help from both Grandma Mazur and Lula. All of the favorite characters from previous installments return, and their antics will have you laughing aloud.

I cannot believe that there are people who actually have not read this series! Stephanie Plum is a hilarious character, and her slapstick comedy has made me laugh aloud at some strange times. If I read these books in front of other people, they invariably ask me what is so funny, and I can never quite relate the story as well as Ms. Evanovich can! There are few mystery books that can make me laugh as much as this series and yet keep me interested in the mystery, but this series does it all. Who else but Stephanie Plum can have every car she has ever owned wrecked in some way (they usually blow up), and be chased by a person in a bunny suit? If you have never read any of the books in the series, join the millions of others that have and get reading today!

The first book in the series is "One for the Money". Enjoy!

I read it when it was written.......2007-09-29

Regardless of the "hindsight" of some reviewers; it was visionary. I went to a Bova lecture and asked him about this book. He stated he & Arthur Clarke[2001] should have patented their books.

In his 1955 book "Challenge of the Spaceship", Clarke explained how communication satellites would operate. He would have been a Trillionaire.

The book is a "Satire", still relevant today. This may well be what is going on behind the scenes.

Publishers are trying to restict Used book sales, by treating a hardgood as software. Stating a book cannot be "transferred".

Publishers would like:
A Genetically engineered tree
Which would imprint itself with the DNA of its first handler.
The 2nd handler would erase the ink.

I've read lots of SF but for some reason had never tried Ben Bova before this. I picked up Cyberbooks in the library on a whim and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. It was mediocre at best. The plot was not particularly creative, none of the characters were all that interesting, and the writing style wasn't particularly compelling. It wasn't bad... just not good. I wouldn't read it again or recommend it to anyone.

The notion of a 'cyberbook' may have been cool when Bova first wrote this, but, like the rest of the technology he talks about, it's old news now. But the lame technology is not really what turned me off. I mean, Asimov can write about coal-powered spaceships and I eat it up because with Asimov, it's all about the characters, the plot, and the writing. He isn't writing about some gadget, he's writing about how people interact in a timeless way. I didn't get that same feeling from Bova. The quality of his writing isn't good enough to make me interested in cyberbooks, so I never got sucked into this and never really enjoyed it.

On a more positive note, it wasn't bad enough to prevent me from trying another Bova book. Thanks to reviewer jerseymca for recommending the Exiles trilogy--I will give that a try and hopefully it will be better than this was.

Outdated, plus it doesn't live up to its potential.......2001-08-07

Cyberbooks was written in 1989, and is based on the premise that one day books will be delivered electronically to handheld devices, instead of printed on paper. Since you're reading this on ( ), you know that this was not particularly visionary - it's true today, barely a decade later. Even at that time, this was pretty easy to predict. That's not the book's main problem though. The problem is, it's pretty dumbed-down. I had read the Exiles Trilogy by the author a couple of times, and was disappointed by this book. I know he can write better. There are parts that read like Bova was going for a farce, but it's unclear - it may just be bad writing. The book also has some totally unnecessary about the Japonese. Get the Exiles Trilogy, not this one.

The court room scene had me laughing out loud.......1999-07-28

I didn't expect much when I picked up this book, I read it on the strength of his other work. I have to say I loved it. It delves into the realm of corporate intrests denying the marketplace of new a innovative ideas (remember the 100 mpg carburetor). By the end I was laughing out loud. Bova has a knack for near future prophesy and based on the digital revolution real cyberbooks are already here in one form or another. Cyberbooks is fun to read after a slow start.

Good future information.......1997-03-20

When this book was published it was well beyond what could be possible. Today however the pulse of this book is right on the money. Note it is a little hard to keep reading on the first 3/4 of the book but it has a great finish

Oh my god I just read Thomas kellers book it's the Best!! This book on the other hand, is mediocrity at best. The author takes up countless pages of out dated equipment and definitions of things like what a crushed red pepper is. I can only say that as a Professional chef this book is a total disappointment. Don't spend your money on the Rytek book either the only book is Thomas Kellers

This is quite an advanced book. If you are looking for something suitable for the home kitchen, see if you can locate a copy of Jane Grigson's < >. It's out of print, but readily available used at Amazon.com.

Good Enough, In all fairness.......2003-01-28

I particularly like the spice combinations presented in the different recipes. It covers sausages from around our planet. Procedure-wise, methods can change depending on where we are in the globe but this book is an effective guide to charcuterie-making as a whole !!
... I really do not know what the other reviewers were looking for in a charcuterie book, though !!

This book looks good, with lots of pictures and sausage mixes. I have been making sausages for a living for twenty years, I have won many local competions including currently holding the title for supreme champion of hampshire UK. When I first started reading this book I thought these will not work and how right I was. When I changed a few things around the sausages came out ok. This book is not as it states PROFESSIONAL.

Pets Living with Cancer - A Must Read!.......2004-12-06

This is an excellent book, and if you have ever had, or currently have, a pet with cancer, you deserve a copy of this book.

It takes you by the hand, and explains in easy to understand layman terms, just what the diagnosis of cancer means to you and your pet, in terms of options, cures and hope. It phrases the questions you should ask your vet about any anticipated therapies and operations for the cancer-stricken pet.

The book is positive in outlook, giving pet owners hope, when there seems to be none. Cure types, therapies, and chemotherapy types and kinds are explained. It even discusses nutrition as it relates to saving the pet and `starving' cancer. And research shows diet can play an important role in starving cancer!

The book gives lots of detail; it answers all the questions that the pet owner, in a state of shock after the diagnosis, forgot to ask the vet. It gives helpful hints on how to organize yourself for future vet visits with the cancer-striken pet, and suggests questions you should then ask the vet.

In sum, for anyone with a pet that has cancer - this little book will become your `guide book.'

I'd buy the book `before the event' however, so you have it when you need it.

WEAK IN NUTRITIONAL INFO - BUT AN IMPORTANT BOOK TO OWN.......2003-01-01

I read this little book the first night I got it, and learned a great deal. I only wish I had this info before I lost my beautiful cat friend Taura to cancer almost 5 yrs ago. Even though I thought I was well informed at the time Taura was sick, I've since learned that I really was not, and a book like this could have made a real difference. Veternarians do not always have the skills or knowledge to give thorough information and this book has an abundance of real life info and leaves one with a great deal to think about.

HOWEVER, I was very disappointed in the section on nutrition, which seemed to lack a full view of nutritional options. Even though there was info given on the importance of protein, carbohydrates,etc. the main recommendation for a cancer fighting food was Hills Diet, which felt bias. Some info was given on supplements, but none on other options for foods, such as the possiblity of homemade diets, either cooked or raw, which under the guidance of a good vet could be the answer to good health, depending on the individual needs of each animal. Also, no other quality foods were listed, of which there are many, which with proper guidance may also be appropriate. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OTHER NUTRITIONAL OPTIONS WITH A VET WHO KNOWS NUTRITION, AS MANY DO NOT.

THIS IS A REALLY GOOD BOOK TO HAVE - I will keep it near and hope I will not need it.

Indispendable Resource.......2002-11-20

A brilliantly written book which offers hope, comfort and compassionate advice for all pet owners whose animal companions face this horrible disease. Covers all aspects of cancer care from diagnosis to end stages of the disease. A must for the pet owner whose beloved animal companion has been stricken with cancer. Thank you, Dr. Downing for this gem of a book.

Great Resource for Pet Owners Who Need Information.......2002-08-09

After my dog was diagnosed with cancer, I searched the internet for answers, and found this book on Amazon. It is a little book, worth it's weight in gold. It is written by a knowledgeable vet who translates clinical information into a factual, yet compassionate conversation with the reader. By using the website links in the back of the book, I was able to find a world class animal hospital in my area that correctly diagnosed the rare form of cancer my dog has. Seven months later, we are on the road to remission. I still refer to Dr. Downing's book, and am more than thanful to have found it.

Cancer is NOT a killer...........2000-08-12

This book was given to me by my vet after my dog (Nikki) was diagnosed with lymphoma. I read this book in one sitting!! This book was a great resource for me in a time of great sadness. I was able to take the many questions that didn't come to me at the vet's office and get them answered. I highly recommend this book to others who may be going through this experience.

BAYOU BEND.......2006-03-31

This is a comprehensive, well researched book on a spectacular collection. Miss Ima had a great eye for fine furniture and art of the American Federal Period. This collection is second only to the great Winterthur Collection as a repository of American Federal furniture. The setting for this collection is breathtaking, the mansion is beautiful and the setting, in Houston's finest area has to be seen to be believed. Miss Ima's collection is huge and the house, though large, is not big enough to showcase all of it, so when one visits the house they may see different items then they would have seen months earlier. To visit Bayou Bend in the Spring is to experience heaven on earth. This is a great guide to a singular collection in a unparalled setting. I highly recommend this guide and make a point if you are in Houston it visit this amazing house and collection, I assure you, you won't be disappointed.

Fun stuff! Wow- there is too much fun to be had in this book, targeted to fourth to sixth graders- I get a buzz just flipping through the pages- such a nice texture and do it yourself feel- and so LO tech- there aren't any batteries needed- or airport connections.This book is about creating forums and objects that display or convey written words by kids. Included among the 40 projects are: how to start your own newspaper how to create a poetry lightbox, a mini book necklace, a placemat, magnetic word kit, and plastic pocket doorway curtain! Included in the book are ohotos of young people and their quotations about their writing life... I cannot imagine a young person or educator (or parent) with the right vibe who would not be creatively inspired for hour and hours with all the ideas contained in this book. Really fun stuff!

Crossing the Line is great........2001-06-21

I like this book. I like black baseball players. Jackie Robinson is my hero, he played for the Dodgers, and was very black. I think that I will start liking Thomas Edison Alston better because of his story on page 108-09. He was a tall black man from North Carolina, I live in South Carolina so that is close to my home. I am not black though, if that matters to you. I have a learning disorder and writing this essay will help with bettering my condition. I think that if I lived in 1947-59 I would like black people better than those mean white baseball players did. I mean some of those players names I have heard before because they had strong black powers to hit the ball far, like Hank Aaron, he played in Atlanta, I live near where he played too, and my daddy watched him hit home runs very far. He was number 44.
