Book Description
The date is Saturday, April 2. Five April brides discover their wedding dresses have been stolen. One of the brides is private investigator Regan Reilly. Her wedding is in seven days.
Regan Reilly and her fiancé, Jack "no relation" Reilly -- head of the NYPD Major Case Squad -- are getting married! Regan had the perfect dress made by two young designers on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Arriving at the bridal salon to pick up her gown, Regan discovers the shop has been broken into, the designers bound and gagged, and wedding dresses for four of the April brides (her dress included) are missing. A fifth dress is in shreds on the floor. Even though it's a week before her wedding, Regan gets on the case, and in the process she meets an unusual mix of brides and grooms-to-be, or -- perhaps "not-to-be."
Over at One Police Plaza, Regan's bridegroom, Jack, is trying to solve a perplexing series of bank robberies. The robber, nicknamed "The Drip" by the NYPD because he always strikes during rainstorms, has been eluding the police for months. Jack is determined to crack the case before his upcoming nuptials.
Carol Higgins Clark fuses the two seemingly unrelated mysteries with an ingenious twist, taking readers from the streets of New York City, to the casinos of Atlantic City, and finally to that most popular wedding spot -- the one and only Las Vegas. She weaves a web of mystery around a charming, humorous tale of five April brides and the trials and tribulations they face planning their weddings.

Mystery, or Romance? Either way the book needs improved!.......2007-03-31
I am new to this author and I acquired the novel via my neighbor. I guess I should have known something was up because she wasn't excited about the book when she gave it to me, but I thanked her gratefully and read it.
If by chance you haven't been informed, the title is derived from the main character, Regan Reilly, a private detective from California, and her plans to marry Jack Reilly, of NYPD.
However, a short time before the wedding, Regan decides to pick up her wedding dress and low and behold, she discovers that the dress shop owners have been robbed of 20 thousand dollars in cash and on top of that, her wedding gown had been stolen. At the same time, Jack Reilly has his hands full trying to locate the person(s) that have been robbing banks.
By this time I'm a little frustrated with this story. Is it a mystery? It claims to be. Or is it a romance and a mystery? I read on, but the author's storytelling abilities never improved. The characters were a mixed bag of alphabet soup. After awhile I found them down right boring. Not one to give up (Growing up on a dairy farm taught me that quality) I was determined to finish this novel. The ending was disappointing and I felt that the author gave little or no thought to improve the story at this point. That was a shame because with a little effort on the writer's part, the ending would not have been so bland and disappointing.
I put the book down, inhaled deeply and thought about how much I value quality literary works from both well known and lesser known authors, and wondered "How does something like this novel get published?
Speaking of lesser known authors, if you're craving (like myself) an exceptional mystery written by an exceptional writer, I'd highly recommend the novel The Monopoly Factor by Robert L. Saunders. A mystery novel that I feel is refreshing and worthy of your attention.
Boring and Predictable.......2007-03-30
Well this is the first book I have read from this author. I will not be reading any more. I was disappointed in the story line which was too predictable and the ending was too "clean" Every character who was "good" got what they wanted, and the "bad" guys got their due with no real suspense. I bought the book as I had enjoyed Mary Higgins Clark's novels in the past. Well, this is not the same author and I will not be fooled into buying her books again.
This is a good read??? Are you kidding?.......2007-03-19
This is my first romance novel and if this is representative of that genre, no thanks ~ let me separate the issues, romance novels versus this book, author, story line etc.,
I'm all for series books, when I enjoy a particular character I hate to see the story end...feels like I've lost a friend. However Regan Reilly feels like a paper doll ~ no depth, no personality. What's the attraction? A ten-year old girl scout has more charisma.
The story line is so predictable ~ the author took the easy way out and connected every subplot and character with shameless ease. Rather than take the time to weave her tale with somewhat believable transitions she just tied every character from Joyce to Cindy to Bridget to Regan and so on to each other to come together and solve the mystery. It was too hard to believe every character would have had a relationship in one fashion or another to each other and even more unbelievable to think this happened in New York. Maybe small town America where everyone knows everyone else and is in everyones business ~
I just kept reading and shaking my head thinking, I can't believe I'm reading this junk...this book was terrible and the writing was worse.
Hitched Review.......2006-11-04
I love the Regan Reilly Mysteries and this one was another great read. Like her mother, Carol Higgins Clark keeps you coming back for more. I didn't want to put it down. A definite must read for Regan Reilly fans! I hope the story will continue.
"Hitched" Hit THe Mark!.......2006-09-27
I have read all of the Regan Reilly series. Although I found the other books to be a bit slow, the author nailed it with her latest installment, "Hitched"! "Hitched" was a fast-paced read from beginning to end! The kidnapping story line could have been a bit tighter. The evidence pointing to the kidnapper was a bit weak, the person kidnapped should have been checked for drugs when she went to the hospital, and it would have been nice if Regan and Jack had arrested the kidnapper! Other than that, "Hitched" was a very enjoyable, lighthearted read!

Romeo saves the day.......2007-06-12
This story of a top designer's April brides losing their wedding dresses to an inept pair of thieves was an interesting read to me. The Bridezilla theme was overplayed a bit, but one hussy does redeem herself helping to rescue one casualty of a dangling subplot. The bank robbery second mystery didn't quite jell. However, the flashes of humor win out, such as the pet parrot Romeo whose favorite expression is "lazy bums," referring to the main culprits.
Too many sub-plots..........2007-05-30
This book was bad from start to finish. Having read one of the author's mother's books and not been impressed, I should have known that this one would not be to my taste either. Although Ms. Clark did a good job of keeping someone who had not read the previous Regan Reilly mysteries up to date, her characters were shallow, there was no suspense, and there were too many subplots. Who cares who is robbing the banks, who cares what happened to this secondary character who disappeared? Ms. Clark did not need these filler subplots to bring this book together, and yet that is what she used them for. All I know is that I have been cured from wanting to read any of Carol Higgins Clark's other Regan Reilly "mysteries".
Bored to tears.......2007-04-04
After reading this author's other books I picked this one up at the airport to keep me company during a long flight. Let me just say I never finished the book and was very disappointed. I love Reagan Reilly but this adventure of hers was a bit too much. Don't waste your time.

Light-hearted mystery romance with plenty of comical antics!.......2007-03-16
I really enjoy all of Carol Higgins Clarks novels and especially the Regan Reilly series. If you want very serious stories, these are not for you. The Regard Reilly mysteries are FUN!! Great "whodunits" with plenty of comic relief and some light romance.
Regan Reilly is back at her parent's home in New Jersey and it is exactly 1 week until she gets married. She is going to move into her fiance Jack's loft in New York as he is head of the Major Case Squad for NYPD. Regan's best friend Kit is her maid of honor and is with her to help finalize the wedding plans and wrap up details that Regan's mom Nora had worked on with Regan living in LA. Regan, Nora and Kit head into the city to the exclusive bridal designers Alfred & Charisse to pick up Regan's gown. When they arrive at the apartment building that the designers work from, they quickly discover a mess with a shredded bridal gown covered with drops of blood and no other gowns hangin on the rack. Regan heads into the back to Alfred and Charisse's quarters to find them tied up and gagged in their bedroom with their safe standing broken and empty!! Besides money ($20,000) and jewelry, the thieves have stolen 4 bridal gowns and shredded one so now 5 brides including Regan have no gowns!! Alfred quickly hires Regan to work on the case and Regan also calls Jack to report it to the police as well as 911. Jack is busy with his unit trying to solve a rash of rainy day bank robberies as well as helping Regan where he can.
How Regan meets the other 4 brides and what they and their fiances are like as well as their reactions to the missing gowns is intriguing and hilarious!! The reader also gets to know WHO did the robbery and has the gowns and that pair of thieves ineptness is amazing!! A fun read with the usual Carol Higgins Clark happy endings!!
Recommended for fun!!

Book Description
When Eel O'Brian fell into a vat of chemicals, his body gained the ability to stretch into any shape and the hero known as Plastic Man was born.Whether bouncing like a super ball, tying himself in knots or using his arms as lariats, the pliable hero never misses a chance to verbally or physically humiliate a foe while fighting crime in his unusual but effective manner. Mixing dark humor with original villains, these stories broke away from conventional comic book plots and forged a new path for super hero storytelling. This 204-page volumeshowcases the wildly inventive artist Jack Cole at the peak of his cartooning powers, and includes an introduction by acclaimedcomics writer and longtime Plastic Man fan, Harvey Pekar.
Customer Reviews:
By far the best comic book from the golden age.......2006-11-23
while I stopped collecting some other Archive Editions I still collect Plastic man. It impresses me more than all the others. All 8 Volumes are real gems. For me Jack Cole is among the 5 best comic book artists of all time. He is an inspiration for countless other artists but no one can cope with him. From the start Plastic man was outstanding but getting even better. In this volume the drawings are funnier and more detailed than ever. Beside in Volume 5 and 6 when Jack Cole had some helping hands this volume is completely his work. In the fiftieth when a lot of superhero titles were canceled Platic man survived. The outrageous humor and the fast forward action made it so popular and nowadays a classic. When Mr Cole left Plastic man the title fades away and it was not possible to reanimate it because no artist had Cole's vast imagination and his unique way of story telling. Plastic man is highly recommended to funloving people. I hope there will be Volume 9 soon.

Hawaiian chef Sam Choy is sassy and sweet. So are the flavors of his food. Choy's cooking is hapu, a hybrid of Polynesian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and European influences, combined in what he calls local-style cooking. In Wok-Seared Shrimp with Pepper-Papaya-Pineapple Chutney, a typical example, Choy marinates the main ingredient, then stir-fries it, and serves it with a colorful accompaniment.
Fish or seafood stars in many dishes. Choy's marinades are generally a blend of garlic, ginger, soy sauce, and sugar, with varying accents of scallion, sesame oil, and hot peppers. Both the preparation of ingredients and the cooking method are quick for most dishes. The accompaniment, often a salsa or chutney, is usually a toss-together of chopped fresh fruits and vegetables that can be made ahead of time.
Choy takes pride in his Hawaiian heritage. He talks about his family and local goings-on. His Catfish in Sweet and Sour Sauce supports local farming of this freshwater fish. Enticing, succulent Hibachi Pineapple Spears were invented one day at the beach to please the kids.
A fish-lovers delight, this book also offers appealing chicken recipes: Quick and Easy Shoyu Chicken, made with teriyaki sauce, will please just about everyone. Sixteen color pages help you present dishes as nicely as Choy does at his restaurants. If you can chop, stir-fry, and grill, Sam Choy's Island Cooking provides a fast, fun taste trip to the tropics. Don't miss the desserts and exotic drinks, like Lava Flow and Kona MacFreeze. --Dana Jacobi

One major complaint..........2007-07-12
I haven't tried to make anything yet and it's mainly because I don't know what each dish is simply by it's title. There are only a few photos of his dishes (and they're not next to the recipe, the few given are all in the center of the book). I like to know what a recipe should look like when it's done so I know I've done it right - this book seriously lacks in that department, something I find very important in a cookbook. However, if that doesn't bother you and you just want the recipes, I'm sure it's great because Sam's a great chef.
Read, learn, laugh and cook.......2004-05-28
With an UKU here and an OPAKA PAKA there, a touch of mango and crushed lemon grass, coconut hull fires and roasted HAPU UPU U, new ways to whisk a mother hollandaise, and flavors that jump right up off the page. That is Sam Choy's Island Flavors.
When exploring new techniques and language in cooking it really is irrelevant if the recipes are complicated, compound, simple or sublime, what matters is if they work. The recipes in Island Flavors work. Too often the reader/cook is duped into buying a cookbook by the way it looks and the food displayed, or by the hype and narrative of paid critics and TV shows. Thankfully there is no illusion to this cookbook. I have found the recipes to be both true to the pan, and true to the palate.
This is a highly recommended cookbook for the novice as well as the more experienced cook. It is full of great information, and you can feel Sam Choy's love of food throughout the book. Food is love so why not read and cook with those who love the craft, and leave the dilletantes of cuisine to gather dust on the backshelves, or in the late night hours of Emeril hell. Sam Choy cooks great food, is a great chef, and is a great food writer. Cook along with him as you read and you will understand why so many of the great chefs are smiling all the time. Food this lively can only make you happy.
One of the best cookbooks I own (and I own 80+).......2003-05-06
All of Sam Choy's books are good, but this one has a special place in my kitchen, because it covers the gamut of dishes. Unlike his seafood and Poke books, Sam provides some of the finest "home cooking" recipes of the islands.
Well done!
Take Me Back To The Islands!.......2003-03-30
Sam Choy has always made cooking hawaiian style simple for me. I like his sense of humor and food combinations. My only problem is finding fresh ingredients here in eastern Washington. I use this book primarily for summer luau parties and impress all my friends. It has lots of variety.
So Good and Still So Easy.......2002-12-04
I had first picked up Sam Choy's Island Sampler and loved everything I made so I wanted more. I got this book and once again everything I have made has been delicious. Choy does a great job using few ingredients and few steps not like many cookbooks that have you using five pans and thirty different ingredients. Way to go Mr. Choy!

A Classic The First day It was Released!.......2007-07-08
Meredith Hodges is a rare human being. A woman with amazing patience and love for her Donkeys and Mules. A deep understanding of their psychology and physical needs enables her to turn these amazingly intelligent, misunderstood and often ignored animals into equestrian eventer's, able to grace any Gymkhana or Show jumping event. She has turned dreams into reality then generously shared the wealth of her knowledge with us in a way that anyone can understand and follow. This is a classic handbook for any person wishing to raise and bring on their mules and donkeys for competition. The step by step photos are easy to follow and copy! Sometimes the text may assumes more than the readers is capable of understanding. But over reading helps solve this problem, I have not yet found another book like it for sound academic content. I prize my signed copy. All students and practicing vets should own this book!
Training Mules and Donkeys.......2007-01-19
I found the book very disappointing. I have donkeys and given the books title assumed equal time would be given to donkeys and mules. Instead only one of 31 chapters dealt with donkeys and as the author pointed out there are major differences between the two. Since I don't have mules, I can't comment on those chapters. I did enjoy the pictures.
Good Book.......2007-01-15
I bought this book for my daughter in law for Christmas. She has wanted it for 2 years. They show one mule and have a 2 yr old that she will start training this spring. She has had nothing but nice things to say about the book. Ordering from Amazon is always a good experience.
Great book, but so little about donkeys..........2003-11-13
Received a signed copy (nice surprise!) of the book which I found to be well written, illustrated and quite complete, information-wise. The only comment I can make is that I thought that there would be more specific information on donkey training than there currently is. While the author's Little Jack Horner tends to prove that whatever a mule can do, so can a donkey, I wonder whether the training described for mules in this book is also applicable as is to donkeys.
But otherwise, really like the book and am happy I purchased it. Will give it a try on my donkey and see where I get to.
Boy was I mistaken.......2002-12-08
I ordered the book....then read the reviews and wanted to cancel....I received it and am I glad....it is the greatest thing going for training donkeys! I own 2...I know.....those who did not like the book simply don't understand longears. And an added bonus was I got a signed by the author copy....thanks Meredith...Judy George......ADAMS member since 1990

I Wish I had that Doll..................2004-10-04
Another wonderfully done book on composition dolls; photography is excellent and many 'minty' dolls are pictured. I would liked to have seen a few more accessories, but the beauty and variety of the dolls makes up for it. This is definitely a keeper and is an outstanding addition to any compo, or American doll, collectors' library.

Three decades old and counting, the worldwide AIDS epidemic has touched millions of lives. It has also yielded a sorrowful library of memoirs and tributes, among the most memorable entries in which is this compelling portrait of a child born into illness and determined to beat it.
Born of a Navajo mother, Nasdijj met 11-year-old Awee while still mourning the loss of his own son. "AIDS had knocked him out," Nasdijj writes. "But Awee was a fighter. He always got back up again." Determined to help Awee in that fight, Nasdijj recounts the miseries of dealing with indifferent doctors and Indian-agency bureaucrats ("Anglos," he writes, "would never tolerate the kinds of limited options Indians have to live with every day"), of seeking avenues of relief from pain that lead into back alleys and other tortured lives, of finding reasons for hope against an ever-stronger enemy--one of whose most powerful guises, he tells us, is loneliness.
"Why would anyone sane adopt a child with AIDS?" Nasdijj writes, answering his own question: "Because one comes to you. Because you can." This tragic, beautifully written memoir encourages us all to do more. --Gregory McNamee
Book Description
Eleven-year-old Awee came to live with Nasdijj, carrying a brown paper bag containing all his belongings, a legacy of abuse, and AIDS. But this beautiful, loving, and intelligent little boy also had enormous hope for his new life. In heartrending prose, Nasdijj writes about their tight-knit, untraditional family—and the precious time they spent together. This searing, poetic memoir will make you cry; yet it is ultimately triumphant, for Awee got what he wanted most in his short life: a real dad.

Don't waste your time and money.......2007-07-20
This was one of my favorite books until I found out that the author made it up, and passed it off as memoir.
DONT BUY THIS BOOK!!.......2006-02-01
Nasdijj is NOT NAVAJO (Dine). He is a White guy from Michigan. He lied about being "Dine". His real name is Tim Barrus. As a member of the Dine Nation I am Truly disgusted with this fraud.
in spite of the fiction one of the best.......2006-01-31
I read this book a few years ago as a publishers advance and it completely broke my heart. It ranks as one of my top 5 favorites. I really don't care if it's fiction or if Nasdijj identifies with the Navajo nation.
What matters most, the quality of the writing or the veracity of it?
For me a book doesn't have to be true to resonate.
I also feel that the problem people are having with it is that he started out writing gay leather stuff and then tried his hand at writing about the love he supposedly had for a child.
In lieu of recent events..........2006-01-31
While it appears that memoirs that have been fabricated are now coming out of the woodwork, the knee jerk reaction that people have towards Million Little Pieces isn't really fair to apply to this book.
First of all, when I was working in a bookstore when this book came out, there wasn't nearly the fanfare that there was for Million Little Pieces, even before Oprah started pushing it. A lot more people are now willing to reject this book before even taking a look inside, and that's a shame.
Secondly, the book reads more like a novel than MLP did. I really wasn't expecting the complete truth the further I got in. While I was a little disappointed upon finding out the actual author, and while I'm sure that any actual Navajo would have every right to be pissed off, it didn't affect the telling of the story to me. It doesn't need to have happened to be worth reading.
Last of all, Boy and the Dog is a better book. MLP was written by a self-aggrandizing blowhard, and it shows in the writing. While Nasdijj (I don't remember his real name) may have been just as self serving in the long run, his books aren't nearly as juvenile.
As a Navajo I'm pretty insulted.......2006-01-26
As an actual, real Navajo tribal member and as a writer I'm pretty disgusted by this. A hoax it is and pretty pathetic. I'm always surprised at how little most Americans know about my people. It's pretty disheartening. Definitely read the LA Weekly article http://www.laweekly.com/index.php?option=com_lawcontent&task=view&id=12468&Itemid=47 for more on the Navahoax. If you want real Navajo writing read Lucy Tapahanso or for great writing read Leslie Marmon Silko (a Pueblo writer).
