Don't get me wrong. I love the series and I love the characters. I love the interplay of the Irish history past (a painless way of learning more about Irish historical characters) with the "charming" family life of Nuala and Dermot. I have read the entire series.

However like all series there comes a point where it begins to look like the author has lost a bit of his enthusiasm. I so enjoyed the earlier books watching the romance grow between the two leads-Irish Gold I think was the best. I think that is less focus on that and we are suppose to believe after 3 children Nuala still looks and acts like 19.She and Dermot have inordinate amount of time to ravish each other-the children,of course, wise beyond their years (although the middle child barely gets a mention) and have superhuman amounts of energy not only to solve crimes but to sew Communion dresses.

It is a nice fairy tale world where there is lots of money and everything works out in the end. And I will continue to read -I love the family but for once it would be nice to see Nuala act a bit more like a mother of 3 and be a little frazzled.

Andrew Greeley's affluent Irish Catholic families in modern-day Chicago are more fantasy than reality anyway, especially Dermot and Nuala. The trouble is, they are so damn appealing to us remaining hopeless romantics. They are sexy and talented and witty and decent and in every book, in danger. So we root for them to figure out who the bad guys are, and neutralize them. As with the other novels in the series, to accompany the contemporary mystery, there is a bit of Irish history thrown in with a mystery aspect of its own for Nuala to solve. This time, the historical one is a bit less dramatic than its predecessors. Father Greeley, by and large a good writer, paints with a broad brush some of the flaws of federal agents and of the recent administration's attempts to keep us safe from real terrorists. Take the plot for what it is, however, an entertainment device to tell a story with a few gentle lessons in morality, religion and Irish Catholic culture. I agree with an earlier reviewer that a little of character Cindasue Murphy's Appalachian dialect goes a long way, but I don't think it has ruined this book for fans. Greeley, as with most priests I've known (and most writers) has virtues which outweigh his flaws, and pros which count more than his cons.

Did not Disappont!.......2006-03-14

As usual, Fr. Greeley did not disappoint. Nuala Anne was at her best. Love reading about the family and how it grows. I am always enthralled by the weaving of the modern day and early Irish mysteries.

I have been an avid reader since childhood and I really enjoy a book filled with suspence. In this book the characters really come to life. One can travel with Thomas on his daily journey's and feel the struggles that he goes through and the joy when things go right for him. I really enjoyed this book and I am waiting for book two. This is a book that can be read and liked by children and adults alike. Keep up the good work.

A cyberpunk book of the slightly later variety. Live tattoos, jokes, and others. How do you feel if your girlfriend only loves you for you tatts?

A bit of espionage, industrial and otherwise, computer virus smuggling, dodgy underworld, dodgy characters, and more abound.

Think sort of a Charlie Stross or Ken Macleod flavour for the general tone. Probably a 3.25 this one.

a sloppy juxtaposition of good ideas.......2005-08-18

The author is excellently descriptive, I enjoyed many of the author's imaginative ideas (sentient tattoos, Hail A Lama taxis, etc.), and enjoyed his obvious love for the Bay Area (obvious echos of Philip K Dick's love for the same). However his ideas were possibly too fruitful often colliding with each other rather then meshing, leaving the story line in tatters.

The concept of the "Hail A Lama" taxi cabs were a stroke a brilliance that could be the basis for an entire novel. However in MIR it is only given a quickly discarded backstory and then used as impersonal plot continuation device. The character's backstories were often just as rashly introduced in brief flashbacks only to be basically ignored. Thus leaving the characters feeling as if they were only hollow pivot points for a runaway plot. By the end of the book I was reading fairly quickly and mainly only to get it over with -- not that the ending was really worth it anyway.

I loved the book, but I think that Besher needs to work on the ending. It just sorta ends, there isn't much to it. All in all the book was excelent, and I would recomend it to anyone.

Buddhist-cyberpunk and virtual reality in the 21st century.......1998-08-24

Epidermal programming is a cutting edge fetish. Sentient tatoos and the Mir 3.0 virus are loose in a world that exists both in consciousness and physical form -- and techno-pagan rituals can assist in moving both from body to body.

Original, intelligent, expansive and truly entertaining. The author is creating an epic story arc that is sure to become a classic. Highly recommended for those who can use a bit of altered reality!

Not as good as RIM.......1998-07-21

While I did not dislike the book. Beshers second novel seems to have lost some of the edge apparent in the first.

All the elements are there, a cyberpunk/buddist setting, a deadly virus that could destroy the world and a few attempting to fight against it. However after a good start the plot seems to meander and the frequent jumps from character to character and in and out of various sub plots that Besher makes can lead to confusion on the part of the reader. I am going to go back to it a second time and feel that it may then grow on me but at the moment I can only say that it is readable but nothing special.

I know that Italian American cooking is out of style, but it still puts a smile on my families face. My brothers, our wives and children rave when I cook Ma's food. But I have a secret, I don't cook Ma's food. She was unfortunately, gone before I got her recipes. I cook Marguerite's food. I bought this book in the late 80's and it fell apart from love. This book will bring back memories or make them, five stars.

The book contains the usual material about dogs in general and nothing that pertains specifically to poodles. It's just the same old stuff re-packaged with the word "poodle." The German shepherd version probably just substitutes one name for another--an exercise in selling books, not helping the reader. You would do better with a good book about dogs, like the books by the Monks of Skete (The Art of Raising a Puppy) or Karen Pyror's Don't Shoot the Dog!

This book does not really have an in debth discussion about about dog behavior, dog training and the relationship between man and dog, but it is an easy to read book with useful information and ideas of how to prevent bad behavior and keep your poodle happy.

MINI Book...Hard to see images!.......2005-12-30

Beware that this is a mini book, which makes looking at Cattelan's artwork almost impossible. Cattelan is an incredibly funny, satiric, conceptual sculptor. His work makes fun of the gallery system in an intelligent way but also moves beyond the criticism of art politics. Some of his work has recently earned the presitgious title of "controversial" (the images of himself hanging from a tree). I put Cattelan in the same category as Manzoni, Fontana...great book but I would order the bigger one.

This is a good series from Phaidon and Cattelan is a good choice for inclusion. There's lots of information here on his early work from the days before he became an 'art star.'
