Great Sequel .......2007-09-17
This book was intersting from the first page. Nurit Folkes did a great job on the sequel for once, I couldn't put it down, it was truly a page turner you want to know what the hell happen to Natalia after Jr. died she must have really been going through something. Natalia and Shawn have really been through hell but like they say two wrongs don't make a right. I was disappointed in Natalia actions and now look where she is dont know who the baby daddy is!!! I recommend this book it was a great read.
Great reading.......2007-05-27
This book is one that will certainly remain on my bookshelf for years to come. I will recommend this book, as well as Triangle of Sins, to any avid book reader. The storyline keeps you guessing and you can actually visualize the characters as the story unfolds between the pages. Can't wait for future titles from Nurit Folkes.
WOW!!!.......2007-03-28
Any book with Terri Woods name on it has yet to disappoint me! I'm an avid reader, and this book was definitly a page turner. I couldn't put the book down, before I knew it it was 3am, and I was still reading. A bit of advice, before you start this book, make sure you have nothing to do, cuz you won't wanna put it down!!!
Excellent Read.......2007-03-04
I couldn't put this book down and finished it in less than 3 days. I hope there's a part 3 and Natalia and Shawn could get their acts together and have a happy ending.
Ghetto Cinderella love story.......2007-01-06
This story was hot, exciting & full of twisted love triangles
Book Description
Elliana Munson knew her frail and lovely sister, Rhiannon, was fated to suffer an early death. What she did not expect, while visiting the fabulous horse farm she had newly inherited, was to be carried off by a pair of lusty fairies to a magical realm just beyond the fences of the south pasture.Valdemar, King of the Elven people, did not think he would ever live or love again following the death of his beautiful and beloved Rhiannon.Without a queen, he, and the people of his kingdom who guarded and maintained the spirits of mankinds horses, were doomed to disappear. Then his fairies brought him Rhiannons final gift . . .
Customer Reviews:
Whoa.......2007-08-20
This book rocks! The paintings were most awesome, and I even liked the story! I got this one because my friend Joanne told my about Fortin and Sanders (read her review on their book Passions Blood - I soooo totally agree with her on that one too.) My only problem with the book was - WHY AREN'T THERE MORE LIKE THIS????
Disappointing.......2006-01-02
Elliana Munson believes she is trapped in a loveless marriage to a boorish man in modern-day Great Britain. When her beloved sister, Rhiannon, dies and leaves her a fortune plus a horse farm, Elliana acts out for once in her life and leaves with the couple's only car to fulfill her sister's dying request. All Rhiannon asks Elliana to do is to mourn her the way the two girls had mourned the death of their mother - by laying down in the fields and letting the horse mares come and help take the pain away.
When Elliana awakens, she believes she still slumbers, as the first sight she sees is two lively and lusty fairies, who don't seem the least bit dismayed to be caught 'in the act' as it were. Deciding that she must still be dreaming, Elliana goes along with her make-believe fairies, who lead her into a magical wood, where Valdemar, the Elven King, rules over his subjects and protects the magical horses in his care.
Elliana is stunned when Valdemar claims that she is to be his next queen. Sure, he is stunningly handsome and everything she always wished for in a man, but he is an Elf! He is also the saddest man she has ever seen and that is because he mourns the loss of his Queen - Elliana's sister Rhiannon. How can Elliana ever take her beloved sister's place in the Elvish kingdom? And how can she marry another when she is still wed in the mortal realm?
I was very excited to read this book as it sounded like such a lovely story and it had some beautiful illustrations, but I was sadly disappointed. The story is very simple and unsatisfactory. Elliana fell in love with Valdemar at first sight and just went along with everything that he said. She had no backbone and was a very simple character, without anything to recommend her. Valdemar was a little more interesting, but mainly because of Fortin & Sanders' lush illustrations of what they imagined him to look like. The illustrations were by far the best part of this book and are very lovely. I must say that I would certainly have enjoyed the book more if I had not paid so much for it. If you have the opportunity to borrow this from the library, you can read it in less than an hour and will forget the story as quickly as you read it.
Why can't you give 0 stars?.......2005-12-04
I fell for a pretty cover and ordered this book in hardback. I was totally disgusted when I found the book had zero story. I donated it to my library the very next day, with a warning that it WASN'T a children's book, despite the pictures. I almost tossed it in the trash, but doing that to any book goes against my nature. I hope my donation keeps some other poor person from wasting their money. If this book had been a movie, I would have gotten up in the first five minutes and demanded a refund.
Thoroughly delightful!.......2005-01-05
I wasn't sure whether I was buying a children's book or a coffee-table conversation piece when I picked up this irresistible book by Helen Rosburg. Imagine my delight when it turned out to be a fairy tale...for adults! While the story is not complex, it is sweet and appealing. And funny as well...the randy little fairies will bring a smile to your face and make you wish you could make love while flying on gossamer wings, too. The book is worth buying for the illustrations alone. Loyal fans just might recognize a few faces! Thank you, Helen, for again treating us with your imagination and producing something truly special.
Borrow, don't buy........2004-08-24
I'm very glad I did not purchase this book, and instead borrowed it on interlibrary loan through my public library. The painted photographs are a unique way to illustrate a story, and Valdemar is a strikingly handsome man, but the lack of substance in the plot and the two-dimensional characterization detract from true enjoyment of this short story/novella.

Poor Ringo.......2004-01-08
You definately learn a lot about Ringo Smith in this book. For one thing Ringo gets tempted with Tara Jaleel's goddess Sheva, because he wants power and to be liked by Raina St. Clair, who he has a big crush on. He also would like to be strong like Dai Bando, who Raina secretly likes. You also learn something about Ringo's past, something not even he know's about...
Very, very good.......2000-05-28
I definately liked this book. It is one of my favorite ones in the whole Daystar Voyages series, and I really recommend that you buy it. It has good Christian content, and is based on sound principles.
Book Description
This classic guide to artisanal bread is back with a fresh new look, just in time to take advantage of the recent surge in popularity of at-home baking. As an award-winning baker and member of a religious brotherhood, Peter Reinhart skillfully blends the two aspects of his life in this eloquent guide to creating wonderful bread. More than 30 delicious recipes, from perfect white bread to pumpernickel and corn, will appeal to both the novice and experienced baker. Reinhart's graceful commentary accompanies readers every step of the way, and illustrates how the artistry of baking, especially using the slow-rise method, is a metaphor for a purposeful life driven by service and charity. Cookies, sticky buns, stromboli, pizza crust, and "the world's greatest brownies" are some of the delectable dividend recipes included.

Peter Reinhart fan.......2007-05-12
If you love Peter Reinhart, you'll want to add this book to your collection.
True, go for the Bread Baker's apprentice, or Crust and Crumb if you don't have any of his books yet. They are both must haves and Bread Baker's Apprentice is probably the most popular book out there right now for the home baker and with good reason.
But if you want to know more about Peter, and where he started from buy this lovely book. Plus it has some great recipes! The corn bread recipe alone is worth the price!
Searching For a Cogent Thought - Or, a Palatable Recipe .......2006-10-26
.
........A book searching for a cogent thought, and a palatable recipe.
I have never comfortably embraced this author, his recipes, or his mode of expressing himself, and this effort in no way reverses that judgment.
I find his books pedantic and inflated. The aimless text asserts such device as the sound of crust "causing a religious experience." Since he avoids all specific association with a traditional chantry, the context of such contrivances is completely confused and disordered. He speaks as well of channeling and alchemy.
The religiously disjointed text embroiders such balmy combinations as traditional Buddhist expressions indiscriminately combined with those of Tao, along with other platitudinous Eastern religious utterance; he sometimes culminates his thoughts with the lyrics of Van Morison. This book is embarrassingly inane.
The text much reminds me of the old joke "If you can remember the 60's - you weren't there!" The person writing this manufactured artifice superficially speaks to "the great cosmic law," Allah, and Kung Fu all implying a weakness of intellect and conspicuous foolishness.
His recipes are awkward by today's standard. They require much sugar, salt, and commercial yeast. His corn bread recipe calls for one-and-a-half Cups of Sugar! The retarding methods are less than au courant; moreover, he uses volume measurements instead of weight.
This book, as the rock stars it quotes; fails the passage of time.
Not for everyone.......2006-01-29
Just a warning to those getting into bread baking in order to get healthier breads. This is not the place to do that. Much too much emphasis on sugary recipes.
I rarely get rid of a cookbook but I couldn't wait to give this away--to a sugar fan.

The Joy of Bread!.......2005-04-05
This book is an absolute treasure for your library. Peter Reinhart is in love with bread and the process of baking. His joy is evident throughout the text; you will be hard-pressed not to succumb to his enthusiasm. If you are looking for only recipes, then this is not the book you want to purchase. If you are looking for something that provides you with an insight into the pleasure of baking, and, also a few recipes, then by all means, purchase this book. It's well worth scouting the used book stores and Amazon Marketplace to purchase a hardcover edition.
Great reading and baking.......2003-01-09
Bread making is money saving and soul enhancing. I still like to make bread by hand, even though I own a bread machine. And this book helped me make truly delicious French bread. Just wonderful! The reading is also good for your soul. If you have more time than money...

This is a very easy to read bread book. It has quirky annecdotes and fun stories. It is written in plain english, so it is easy to read for the first time bread baker. It has an awesome trouble shooting section and great tips. It also has wonderful recipes that taste fantastic. useless book.......2007-09-30
This book was too complicated for the beginner and too superficial for everybody else. While all the photos of plants contained more than one type of plant, the caption failed to identify more than one type and it was never clear which plant the caption was referring too. Many of the more complicated topics were treated so superficially as to be of any use to anybody and should have been left out entirely
Why & How to kepp and aquarium........2007-09-13
The authors have done an excellant job of describing water chemistry and the reasons various filtration systems work. pH, KH, hardness, nitrites, and nitrates are all covered. Testing and correction of water deficiencies are described very well. The explanation of Kingdoms of platnts, animals, etc. is very enlightening. The different catagories of plants are also covered as well as their use in an aquarium. Fish that are compatible with a planted aquarium are also suggested.
Very nicely formatted Overview or Introduction.......2007-03-25
I've kept planted aquariums for a number of years, but was intrigued by this book because one of the co-authors is a well-known advocate of low-tech planted tanks.
The format of this book is VERY nice. The writing is friendly and inviting, and there are lots of pretty full color photos. Personally, I didn't learn a whole lot of new information, but it was a pleasant read nonetheless. I would certainly recommend it to someone just entering the hobby, or someone looking for an overview on planted tanks, especially if they're seeking some guidance on what type of planted tank is the best fit for them - high tech, low tech, biotope, etc. All around, a very good presentation, and an excellent invitation to exploring planted aquariums!
Good book for beginner........2006-03-02
This book has been quite helpful for my husband who is setting up his first planted aquarium. It is well organized, informative, and easy to read. The authors offer suggestions of compatible fish as well as plants, substrates, and water management.

Book Description
The inorganic and organic water constituents, often called color-producing agents (CPAs), responsible for water color are generally referred to as water quality parameters. Utilization of water color for assessment of water quality parameters can be achieved by using the established techniques in aquatic optics attained over many decades. Aquatic optics can be subdivided according to whether the natural water body is salty (marine), inland or fresh (limnological), or coastal (often brackish). The authors describe the transformation of water color under varying natural and anthropogenically-driven conditions and, for the first time in a quantitative manner, a closed circle of issues related to remote sensing of water quality in optically complex waters generally inherent to inland and marine coastal waters. Primarily, the text synthesizes the solutions of problems in remote sensing, incorporating mathematics, hydrobiology/hydochemistry, atmospheric optics and ecology.

Great resource.......2007-05-07
Of the 15 or so art instruction books I've bought over the last few months, this is one of my favorites. This is ironic, since I originally was turned off somewhat by the subject matter and/or style of many of the works inside (nothing wrong with it, just not my particular cup-o-tea).
However, on deeper consideration I realized that Simmons offers really great instruction on the use of technical pen, so who cares whether one likes the artwork itself. Take for example the "monk" drawing that is depicted on the cover. I don't care for the drawing at all, no matter how it's rendered. However, this drawing is used to demonstrate a couple dozen rendering options, and these renderings are a great teaching tool.
Simmons spends plenty of time on the technical details of using a technical pen for both tight and loose rendering, and that's what makes this book great.
Excellent book.......2006-11-12
Excellent to see a good variety of different techniques. Great step-by-step tutorial. I found new ways to render lots of different textures. A must-have!
Awesome!.......2005-06-24
The book is just plain awesome. Besides taking the time to explain how to care for the technical pen, how to do the different strokes, and what type of beginner mistakes to be aware of, the artwork is the best pen work I've ever seen. If you work with pen and ink, or even if you don't, you will love this book!
highly recommend.......2004-02-11
Very helpful. When I bought this book I hadn't used a technical pen in over 12 years (since high school art class). So, I needed some thorough instruction on techniques and materials. I am glad that this is the book that I got. It covers a wide variety of different strokes and includes many examples of how they can be used. The color stuff is pretty cool too.
I looked at many other books on the technical pen. This is the best one that I found which is devoted to tech pen work. (Other books had chapters devoted to using ink with brushes and metal nibs - which is also cool if your interested). If you are looking for a book full of info on just the tech pen though, then I would highly recommend this one.
It was written in the early 90's, so the one thing I found is that there are some inks available at my local art store that probably didn't exist back in 1990. Therefore, the book doesn't have any information on them.
The author seems to have a preference for the Kohinoor Rapidograph brand pens, which are still widely available today and work great. The early portion of the book has very detailed information on filling, cleaning , and maintaining the pens. It is very helpful and much more detailed then the instructions that the Kohinoor pens come with.
Great choice!
A Must Have!.......2003-05-12
If you love the subject of pen & ink, you'll no doubt love this book. It contains one of the most thorough collection of basic pen strokes, and an impressive variety of styles: from simple portraits to highly elaborate fantasy art. One of my favorite parts is showing how a drawing shall look incorporating a variety of different pen strokes with each of 24 renderings. This chapter concludes with a reproducable sketch that can be used by the student to explore the exercises. A book replete with examples and exercises. Highly recommended!

No One and Nothing is Against You!.......2007-07-30
I loved this book from the opening chapter. It caused me to awaken my thinking and take more responsibility for my thoughts. Out of the box thinking. A very spiritual way to resolve conflicts - change our thoughts.
Embrace conflict as your chance to grow.......2007-05-10
In my recent awakening from addiction after many years of running in fear, teachings like this give rise to such a healthy mind set for facing and embracing life. What a refreshing thought that interpersonal and self conflict merely express the thoughts I bring into the situation. By reframing what it is I know and believe, not only can conflict enrich my life but it can also help me reach new levels of understanding which keep my life vibrant and new. Great read.
The I Of The Storm.......2007-02-14
One of the most practical and helpful books on dealing with conflict in relationships. A must read for anyone who is looking to bring harmony to a family, a team, a congregation, or a community. Actually, these principles would work well for a nation and a world as well.
Gary Simmons lays out the issues in relationships fair and square, then shows how a shift in attitude and approach can bring peace and solutions where before there was only chaos and confusion.
There's also a teen-age version of this book for working with young people.
Conflict and non-conflict:..Each is within us.......2002-08-10
It often appears that conflict is the norm and that there's no way to avoid it. We see this in our personal lives and in the entire world around us. We see it on TV and in the movies. We hear it in a lot of popular songs. We read about it in the newspapers.
However, there is an alternative to all this lying within each individual. Careful reading of Gary Simmons' book should help one understand the how and why of this conflict, and how to embrace, rather than resist, it and thus learn the effective way to deal with it.
This isn't Pollyana stuff. The author teaches martial arts, and his teaching comes from strength, not from timidity and passiveness.
For those who are super serious in their desire to deal effectively with conflict, I recommend buying the tape EMBRACE TIGER, RETURN TO MOUNTAIN, along with this book. However, if you're not ready for that, than go for the book itself.
YES to embracing conflict!!!!.......2002-05-02
conflict has been challenging for me all my life...i wonder if it hasn't for anyone! reading gary's book has been such a gift, for not only does he remind me that all conflict begins within me, he also shows me that its cause is a sense of brokeness within myself and that it is simply an invitation for revealing wholeness. wholeness that already is within me, but just hasn't been discovered yet. and now the adventure begins; not one of judging my brokeness, but of disovering and experiencing and expressing my wholeness. and not just in my personal life, but also in my work life. i can't wait!!!! this is a must read for everyone....i can only imagine if we all practiced the principles that gary presents in this book......
Book Description
This program offers practical, spiritually based principles for managing conflict. It is helpful in transforming fear into fearlessness...resistance into nonresistance. It's ideal for those struggling with relationship conflicts and personal challenges and, in general, for everyone who feels uncomfortable with conflict. Two cassettes.

Rev. Simmons' message here is not at all of avoidance of conflict, but of dealing effectively with it by being truly centered. There are lessons, so he states, for us to learn in conflict situations. And such situations indeed are part of life. But if we don't deal realistically and effectively with conflict, we bring even more disharmony into our lives.
And so we are to embrace the tiger, that is the conflict situation, and return to the mountain, that is to our center. This takes a bit of spiritual training, a sharpening of our ability to center, to deal with situations in ways that are nonviolent, and nondestructive to ourselves or others.
This two hour program presents us with a regime and a way of thinking to accomplish this. It is done with compassion and understanding, also with clarity.
I very much recommend this to people at all levels.
Restore Harmony and Balance.......2000-09-05
I reviewed many tapes this year, and "Embrace Tiger, Return to Mountain" was the best audio tape teaching the essence of restoring harmony and balance to your inner life, as well as in your relationships with others. This tape is also very valuable for those wishing to discover a more positive outlook, conflict resolution and inner peace. I recommend it highly.

Book Description
From his child-sized Klan robes and rows of empty gilded sneakers to his recent photographs of uninhabited pedagogical spaces, Gary Simmons's work contains and invokes an absence as palpable and fraught with meaning as any presence. His best known work, expansive erasure drawings containing imagery addressing issues pertaining to race, pedagogy, and culture, are sketched on blackboards and walls and then rubbed and smudged by the artist's own hands. A widely acclaimed young artist who came to prominence in the late 80s, Simmons's work in drawing and sculpture deals extensively with black identity and with imagery inspired by American popular culture, from cartoons to vernacular architecture. This catalog, the first published on the artist's work, focuses on Simmons' work since the mid-1990s.

Book Description
Over the past 20 years, the cultural and scholarly discourse around race has exploded to include the study of whiteness and white privilege, representing a radical shift in the way we think and talk about race in the United States. Since the advent of the modern civil rights movement, people of color have usually been responsible for leading the debate and discussion about race and racism, forced to evaluate the status of their race in relation to the prejudice they experience every day--while most white people, even the most liberal, are usually oblivious to the psychological and political weight of their own color. The study of whiteness asks all Americans--and especially white people--to take stock of the political, psychological, economic and cultural implication of white skin, white entitlement and white privilege. White: Whiteness and Race in Contemporary Art, the first exhibition and book devoted to the subject, gives voice to 11 artists who explicitly address the issue of whiteness: Max Becher and Andrea Robbin, Nayland Blake, Nancy Burson, Wendy Ewald and Mike Kelley, William Kentridge, Barbara Kruger, Nikki S. Lee, Cindy Sherman, and Gary Simmons. David R. Roediger, Professor of History and American Studies at the University of Minnesota, contributes an essay on whiteness in the culture at large, and Patricia J. Williams, Professor of Law at Columbia University, writes about the social and legal implications of whiteness. Curator Maurice Berger, author of White Lies: Race and the Myths of Whiteness, provides an introductory text on whiteness and art as well as individual artist essays.

My thoughts on Bubba Jones.......2007-10-16
I found this to be a great read. It is truly a southern tale. Bubba was so real I almost thought I knew him personally.
I was amazed how on one page I could be laughing at something he said and the next page I wanted to cry because someone was mistreating him in such a terrible way.
It was very difficult to lay this book down once I started reading it.
I will certainly never look at a poor person the same again.
I love a book with a end that I am not expecting and this one didn't let me down.
I would recommend it to every one.
