Book Description
Carmen Nguyen never knew her father, Langston Blue, an army sergeant presumably killed in Vietnam. Enlisting the help of Denver's CJ Floyd, a streetwise African American bail bondsman and Vietnam vet, and Flora Jean Benson, CJ's new partner, Carmen charts a course to find her father—a complex, dangerous course that untangles a decades-old mystery involving the disappearance of Amerasian war babies, illegal U.S. paramilitary operations, yellow journalism, and governmental double crosses. In the process of resurrecting and reconstructing her father's past, Carmen, CJ, and Flora Jean find themselves facing a treacherous, life-threatening assignment as they follow a trail of double deals, blueprints for genetic cleansing, Vietnamese racism, political corruption, and power grabs that leads all the way to the halls of the U.S. Senate.

langston blue.......2007-08-28
I have enjoyed following Robert O Greer telling us the exploits of protagonist C J Floyd; each novel reveals a bit more fully the colorful character and depth of personality => especially as mirrored by the multi-dimensional supporting cast C J Floyd surrounds himself.
I found Langston Blue the best book yet in the series, riveting, well researched => the topics Greer covers make one think as well as be entertained.
Resurrecting Langston Blue.......2007-01-13
I have read all of Robert Greer's novels and I love his style of writing. He seems to put you in the scenery where you can feel the surroundings weaving you into the locale he is writing about. He is another underrated author.
The Number One Fan Speaks.......2006-09-05
This book is another winner from Robert Greer. It captures the issues from Vietnam that continue to haunt America. It also shows some of the complexities of multi-racial relationships that occurred in Vietnam and how the children assimilated in the US. The story moves with great twists and turns and paints a great picture of the many sides of C.J. Floyd.
A powerful political thriller.......2006-03-04
This novel is as much mystery as thriller and features Greer's long time protagonist CJ Floyd. It has intrigue with a strong sense of character and place, and is a must read for mystery, thriller, and CJ Floyd fans.
(RAW Rating: 4.5) - Old wounds reopened.......2005-11-17
Thirty-five years ago, Vietnam Veteran Langston Blue witnessed an atrocity of war that sent him into self-imposed exile to keep from being murdered. He would have remained in hiding in his West Virginia back woods cabin forever, but was contacted by someone claiming to be his daughter. He'd been told his wife was murdered, so he didn't see how he could have a daughter. Unsure what to do, his choices are reduced when his cabin is blown up. Now fearing that this woman may actually be his child, he makes his way across country to Colorado to make sure the people who are after him aren't after his child.
Bail bondsman CJ Floyd was hired by Carmen Nguyen to find her father, Langston Blue. Carmen thought her father had deserted her, but found out from her aunt that he never knew about her. Her aunt also told her that a popular politician is one of the reasons Langston went into hiding. After Carmen and Langston are reunited, the politician ends up dead and the police believe Langston is the murderer. To clear Langston, CJ must solve the mystery of what happened thirty-five years ago.
Mr. Greer's style of writing is smooth and fast-paced, which made for quick reading of this almost 400 page novel. You know you've read a good murder mystery when you finally find out whom the killer is and you want to slap yourself for not figuring it out. RESURRECTING LANGSTON BLUE had me in that spot. Mr. Greer had several plot lines rolling at the same time. The lines started at one spot, gradually separated, then merged to end the book with a bang.

Good Graphic Novel.......2007-09-27
Good read, not as ground-breaking as others before it, but still a good read for your suspension of disbelief
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-25
There are high stakes here, and high power on top of that. With the arrival of yet another Supergirl retcon into the dc universe, many players are interested. From a hopeful and lonely Superman to a suspicious Batman, a worried villain fraternity and Darkseid, who sees a big opportunity.
Even giving her to Wonder Woman to train comes at a cost.
The new Supergirl. How many have there been?.......2007-09-24
Story: acceptable. Art: ranges from good to mindblowing, athough Turner needs to practice drawing feet. This has a place on your shelf.
pretty good kara re-intro..........2007-05-11
well i have mixed feelings about this. the art is great, the story is fairly good until the end. the end of the book is so extremely cheesy it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. superman introduces supergirl to the jla, jsa, titans, etc. and it's god-awful cheese. but i like the beginning of the book when kara lands and batman finds her.
Enter Kara Zor-El.......2007-05-08
This collection is a follow up to 'Public Enemies' and reintroduces Superman's Cousin Kara Zor-El to the DCU. The storyline is even more intriguing then its predecessor and the art is equally as incredible (no body can draw Batman better then Michael Turner).
Lex Luthor may have been insane, but he wasn't wrong. Superman was what drew the kryptonite asteroid to earth. While inspecting pieces of sunken meteor rock in Gotham's Harbors Batman discovers a space ship with kryptonian writing. He is soon in pursuit of a naked teenage girl whom has powers remarkably similar to Supermans. After subduing her with green kryptonite Batman takes her back to the cave for analysis. It is there that they discover that she is indeed kryptonian and related to Superman himself.
Finally feeling like he isn't alone in the universe Clark bonds with his cousin immediately. He trusts her completely and even reveals his secret identity to her after only a few days. Bruce however isn't so trust worthy, he suspects that she is some elaborate trap and arranges for the girl to be taken away to Themyscira (Paradise Island) where she is trained by Wonder Woman. Just when Bats suspicion is subsiding Darkseid launches a full scale attack on the island and kidnaps Kara. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Barda now have to travel to Apokolips to bring her back. However, are they willing to destroy an entire planet to do so? And even more, will Kara even want to come back?
This collection is defiantly worth picking up. After reading this I snatched up Supergirl: Power, Kara Zor-El is quickly becoming one of my favorite DCU characters.
+This trade contains a guide to kryptonian so all you fanboys and girls can translate the language yourself.

Great food, but accurate?.......2007-05-08
I've had this book forever.
I cooked out of it for years and then in my last move, lost the book. I came across it again recently. With me being on weight watchers, the nutritional information is really handy....or is it? I have found several of the recipies to be way under the actual calories and fat.
It's still a really awesome little book, but if you are concerned about the nutritional information, you may want to double check the values.
My new favorite cookbook!.......2006-12-10
After searching long and hard for a quick and healthy cookbook, I purchased this one. This pillsbury cookbook is just what it states; "fast and healthy". However, it is so much more! First of all I love all the pictures. As a somewhat inexperienced cook, I really like to know how something is going to look before I make it. Once I discovered how delicious and easy the recipes were, I ventured into making the non-pictured recipes as well. And to my delight, they turned out great!
Another thing that I like about this book is that each recipe doesn't have a million ingredients listed nor are the ingredients weird or difficult to find in the stores. I have found almost everything I needed in Walmart Supercenter which is where I do the majority of my shopping.
Finally, this book is different from other "healthy" cookbooks out there in that the recipes are not only healthy, but they have some actual "taste" to them as well. Sometimes I forget that I'm actually eating a low-fat meal!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to keep their diet under control but does not want to spend all day in the kitchen slaving over the stove!
Fast, Healthy, Delicious...and You'll Shed a Few Pounds Too!.......2003-07-24
I have owned this book for several months now but not until recently have I taken it out and actually used some of the recipes. Well actually, I have taken up Weight Watchers again and I was looking for some recipes that wouldn't remind me that I was dieting. I just finished a Garden-Fresh Tuna Salad Sandwich (4 points) that was just packed with flavor with just a scant 3 grams of fat. The photograph of the sandwich is what caught my eye and that is one of the big selling points of this and other Pillsbury cookbooks.
The book begins with a comprehensive discussion called, 'A Guide to Healthier Eating'. Here you will find information about the soon to be amended Food Pyramid and just what is meant by a 'serving'. The authors then give the reader the 'Seven Steps to a Healthy Diet' which include suggestions for improving your food intake. Additionally, there is a glossary of health and food-related terms, some suggestions for using the nutritional information included in the book and some suggested menus combining some of the recipes.
Like many cookbooks, Fast and Healthy covers the culinary experience from Appetizers to Desserts. Aside from the many beautiful photos, the book is replete with many sidebars. These give the user tips that will enhance not only the recipe, but the expertise of the cook as well. Nutritional information for each recipe is provided and dietary exchanges for diabetics are also included. Weight Watchers clients like myself can easily calculate the Winning Points from the information provided and most of the recipes will fall into weight loss plans. For the chocolate lover, who can resist Cocoa Mocha Brownies or Double Chocolate Chip Cookies....two and one point respectively???
As you can tell, I like this book. I am a big fan of Pillsbury's cookbooks and this one is going to be a good friend over the next three months...and well beyond!
NO LOW FAT COOKING FOR ME!!.......2003-04-05
Why do you keep inserting low fat and diet books into my lifestyles and favorites???? That's a real no-no for a fat man who enjoys his food and is happy being fat!
A must buy for the busy new cook.......2003-02-25
This book is a must buy for the new cook who wants to make GREAT meals that are also FAST and HEALTHY. This book has changed my family's life, we use it every time we cook to make a delicious meal that anyone in the house can make in minutes. Move over Betty Crocker, Pillsbury is in the house!

an excellent investment!.......2006-12-12
I bought this book when I got married in an effort to help my husband and I support a more healthy lifestyle (ok, we wanted to lose some weight!). This book has by far exceeded my expectations--i use it at least three to four times a week!
the highlights:
-meals that truly can be prepared quickly
-"normal" ingredients that I can find at a regular grocery store and won't sit in my fridge for months after using them once
-truly tasty recipes that rarely taste "lowfat"
-a wide variety of recipes with a multitude of flavors and tastes that suit both the adventureous eater or a more conservative palate.
-directions that are easy to follow with helpful information sidebars. Even you 'non-cooks' out there can use this book!
-It lists nutrition info with each recipe, so you know exactly how many calories and how much fat you're taking in with each dish.
The book is divided into sections for each type of food (ie chicken, fish, breads, etc), and it has a pretty good index in the back so it is easy to find things.
The only thing I would do different is that the entrees don't list suggestions for sides, which would be helpful for those of us who don't have an intuition for that sort of thing.
A book that does do this is "Make it in Minutes", a book by weight watchers that is my second favorite cookbook. Ignore the WW thing, and pick this book up too. It has some great recipes as well!
Great Cookbook, Easy to Use.......2006-11-01
I was very satisfied with this cookbook that I saw in a bookstore but got on Amazon for half the price.
So far I have made 3 of the recipes (the ratatouille stew, tuna sandwiches, and salmon with leeks) and they have all been delicious. They were also easy to make and the ingredients were not hard to find or expensive.
The recipes are healthy while still having lots of flavor, so your family will likely enjoy them.
The only thing I might object to would be the use of some artificial or highly processed ingredients (like canned salmon or some prepackaged foods), but these wouldn't be hard to replace. It just might require a little extra time, but if you prefer to eat natural/organic foods, these recipes could be easily modified.
I would definitely recommend this cookbook.
EASY AND YUMMY.......2006-05-12
This cookbook has it all! Normal recipes, easy to follow large print, beautiful glossy pictures and pages, and nutrional information. It tells you to use yogurts etc instead of sour cream and healthier versions of cooking. It has general calorie information for foods, and general cooking tips and suggestions for things you can throw into the recipe if you have leftovers. Something I have never seen before. It has tips on how to spot good produce and the right cuts of meats. I can never seem to find recipes in other books I have bought that I would actually use, but I have used this book several times. I have made the meatloaf several times, and everytime my family loves it. I like it because it tells you that you can use breadcrumbs or smashed crackers as I stated above, it gives options in the recipe, with tips above the recipe. Most cookbooks don't do that. I would reccommend this to a beginner or a parent that doesn't want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen after a long day at work, like me.
Wonderful Cookbook!!!!.......2006-02-08
I have only had this cookbook for a week but I have used it every night for dinner. The recipes are delicious and so easy to make. I have been searching for a low fat, fast, and easy cookbook that included nutritional information for a long time! I love that it tells you ALL the nutritional info, not just calories. The pictures seem to be a true representation of what you end up cooking. My husband and my 3 year old have been very pleased with the past several dinners. I'm happy because most of the recipes take less than 30 minutes to prepare. I know I will enjoy this cookbook for a very long time. It is a must have!!!
Excellent Cookbook.......2005-08-23
When I first bought this book I didn't utilize it as much as I should have. Now that I have become more driven to eat healthier but don't want to spend much time in the kitchen I find this book to be extremely useful. It's full of big full color pages of the finished product, easy recipe instructions, and even comes with a section in the beginning explaining the food pyramid and portion sizes. I thought with the name "Pillsbury" it would call for some of it's own products like those "grands" rolls and other fattening products they sell but I haven't seen that anywhere in the cookbook. Just healthy foods that you probably have onhand or at least should already have in your fridge and pantry. All in all I'm finding it to be a wonderful resource in the kitchen. My husband even recently looked through it and thought he ought to be able to cook up some things from this book since they looked simple enough.

Complete Idiot's Guide to Horseback Riding........2005-08-12
It was written in an easy to understand style. Information was good and easy to put into practice.
To jbsanderson.......2004-11-09
I read your sentence and it made perfect sense to me. It means that while you are riding in a counterclockwise circle, with the horse's left shouolder on your inside, then your horse should pick up the left lead of the canter, or the inside lead in any case so that it is more comfortable for the horse to go around corners and keep the same steady pace.
I haven't read this book, but apparently it is a beginner's book since the lady said now she knows how to sit a canter. Wow. Well, I've been trained hunter (English riding, jumping full courses) for three and a half years so maybe I won't read it. But for every beginner, my horsey friend said that she has it and that even though she owns a horse herself, she lent it to a newcomer at the barn and everything about her horse skills improved, so beginners buy it and more experienced people...beware.
Simple but effective.......2003-11-13
I think this book was very helpful. I was new to horseback riding and this gave the basic information I needed to know, plus additional information I'll use in the future. If you are new to riding then I think this book will be beneficial for you, too.
Great Book for beginners and Advanced!.......2002-03-05
This book is definately in my book shelf, because it passed my reveiew of being a very helpful horse book! I think that readers would probably have to know a little bit about horses before reading it though. For instance, if they said to pick up your curry comb, people who knew nothing about horses would be like, huh? So, don't go by the title, "The IDIOT'S guide to horseback riding", because it takes a little more than an Idiot to read it. :)
This book contains so much useful information though! After reading Horses for Dummies, I found this book so much better. I don't think I would have been able to ride the canter if it weren't for this book! :)
Read it, and you won't regret it! :)
A dummy had to have written this........2001-03-14
I know very little about horses but apparently I know more than the person who wrote this book. I bought this book to catch up with my wife's riding skills. What a joke. Do not even waste your time or money on this book. Purchase a book from Linda Tellington Jones or John Lyons instead if you really want to learn and understand what you are reading, and be able to apply it to your horse(s) later on.
Book Description
The Complete Idiot's Guide' to Horses will introduce new and prospective owners to every aspect of buying, riding, grooming, handling, stabling, training and caring for horses.
Readers will learn about the various horse breeds, what to wear while riding, how to saddle and mount a horse, and how to choose the right vet.

A perfect resource book for horses.......2005-03-29
I disagree with the last post. This book is the best resource book for everything about horses. It is well-researched, well-written, and easy to read. It is very easy to find the exact information you may be looking for and explains it all simply and clearly: the perfect book to have on hand for the beginner or even the experienced horseperson, especially when you're looking for accurate and concise information. It is also clever, humorous, and interesting. And yes, the sidebars are fabulous!
A milk-toast book on horses and horse care.......2005-01-06
As a first time horse owner and long-time animal lover I found that this book touched so lightly on subjects related to horses and horse care that I found it frustrating. It skimmed over subjects that warranted more information. I didn't feel after reading it that I had the information I needed. There certainly is some good information in the book but left me searching for better books on horses and horse care.
SIMPLY THE BEST BOOK ON HORSES!.......2003-06-26
This is simply the best book on the subject for anyone thinking of owning or learning to ride a horse, period. Any beginner should start here, and if you buy only one book, make it this one. Yet anyone can benefit from the accumulated wisdom.
The sidebars and boxes are particularly great. 5 Stars!
All-around terrific book for horse lovers and others.......2003-06-15
This is a well-organized, comprehensive, and engagingly written introduction to all aspects of horse lore and horse ownership. The authors are as friendly as they are entertaining. It's worth a read just to see what the next clever heading will be! Fortunately the text is also succinct and clear. All topics are presented in straightforward, highly readable prose. A detailed contents list provides easy topic-specific access, and there are appendixes to guide readers to information from other sources. A thoroughly enjoyable read, and a great gift for all age groups and interest levels.
A great primer on horses!.......2003-06-10
This treasure is jam-packed with basic info as well as trivia tidbits, such as "From the Horse's Mouth" and "Horse Lore" highlights. Covers everything from "accessories" to "zoning," and is easy, informative and entertaining reading.

Even though baseball, football, and basketball get the lion's share of sports fans' attention, it's important to note that horseracing is the sport most steeped in tradition, mystery, and arcana. This Complete Idiot's Guide is for anyone who's ever heard terms like pick six, hard knockers, and cheap speed and thought, "Hey, there's something fun going on out at the racetrack, and I'd like to get in on it."
Nothing can replace the pure adrenalized fun of visiting a track and laying some hard-earned cash on the daily double; this book does all it can to ensure that you'll give yourself at least a middling chance to finish in the money. You'll learn how to read the "Daily Racing Form," what difference a horse's heredity makes, what physical limitations a horse might have and how to recognize them, and how to place all the different kinds of bets. Most important--considering this is a sport in which professional handicappers can only pick the winners 35 percent of the time--you'll learn how to give yourself the absolute best chance to walk away from the track with more money than you had when you arrived. --Lou Schuler
Book Description
You're no idiot, of course. You have a job, you keep up with your bills, and you even manage to pick a good car from the dozens on display at your local auto dealership. But when it comes to driving that car to the racetrack, you'd rather stay at home than risk your money with betting on a mystifying animal. Don't give up the chance for fun and profit yet! The Complete Idiot's Guide to Betting on Horses helps you build the skills you need to understand horse racing. Feel confident about examining the horses, studying their past performances, and placing your bets. In this Complete Idiot's Guide, you get:

What a Complete Waste of Time.......2001-01-12
I found nothing in this book that would help me, a newcomer to betting on horses, make an intelligent decision at the track. I'd prefer to give it less than a star. I will continue to search for a good book that will give me the information I need.
Strictly for those who want to know about the sport not bets.......1999-05-10
A fun read with little or no information about the gaming aspects of this exciting sport. Railbirds and lifetime fans will learn quite a bit about the sport and the athletes (both equine and human), while being shortchanged on the wagering aspects of the game. Look elsewhere if your interest lies in the wagering aspects of horseracing.
A great guide for both new and experienced racing fans.......1998-10-22
This is a great guide for all the new fans , as well a back to basics refresher manual for the oldtimers. It is quite comprehensive starting from first step up to including methods or systems for selection of winning horses. Just one system in the book may pay for it, with the first bet.

Awesome.......2005-12-21
Aliona is a gifted and awesome storyteller. Her book details her experience in a truthful (and sometimes comedic way). She definitely pulls you into her life and allos you to feel what she is feeling. I can't wait to see more from her!
What a great book!.......2000-08-02
This book documented what so many of us experience growing up as a "double" minority in this country. Aliona, congratulations to you and everyone who survives the madness and the struggles and still has the courage to get up and face the next day and whatever it brings.
Loved it.......1998-01-13
This was a book that all of black america (especially black men) should read. Anybody on this side of the color bar knows, HAIR IS A BIG DEAL. It really widned my eyes (and I do mean widened, 'cause mine are already open) to the plight and inner struggles a sister goes through just with her hair. To conform or not to conform, that is the question? To weave or not to weave? To let a hot comb sizzle your ears or let curling irons burn your neck? To perm or let the roots go back to Africa? Why does Jheri curl? Whether we admit it or not, hairstyle (or lack of) is another one of our intercultural racisms. (We won't get into that light-skinned, dark-skinned thing.) And corporate America ain't down with hairstyles that represent freedom and any attachment to the Motherland. The author has an open, honest, easy going style that sucked me into the story from page one, and I look forward to devouring her future projects. Miss Gibson, keep pen to paper, continiously move onward and upward toward the light.
