Book Description

An oil pipeline leak in the Gulf of Mexico looks like sabotage, and APO is assigned to find the source using any means necessary. Sydney and Dixon visit the drilling platform and discover a likely suspect, but before they can corner him, he flees...in the APO helicopter.

It seems the attack was a practice run for something bigger, and Sydney and Dixon must determine the real target before time runs out. There are other matters on the agents' minds too -- Dixon is concerned about his son, Steven, and Sydney is led to wonder, not for the first time, what it would be like to have a "normal" family. But there's no time for wistful thinking when the saboteurs' plot becomes clear...and threatens to throw the country into total chaos.

I had a hard time finishing following this plot to the end. Didn't find the usual entertainment value that I generally find with the APO series from other authors.

Not the best but still good.......2006-03-23

This was not one of the best Alias APO books so far but it was still good. From some of the hints in the book, they could have gone more into Dixon's life and the problems he faced with Steven but they only hinted at it and then left it fall away. The interaction between characters was good but not as good as the previous books. It was a good read otherwise.

As the title says, it's been a while since I've read this book. I first read it in first grade in a small library. It was one of the first twenty or so full length novels I had read at that time, so I simply read it twice and checked it in. A year later with many more such books under my belt I realized that I had passed up a very good read and went beck to look for it. When I got there, the librarian, a good friend of mine, told me that the book had just been sold in an old book sale. Since then I have hunted for it off and on for eight years without success. Now I've found it and I can't wait to see if it's as good as I remember. I liked the main character and was intrigued by the idea of time-traveling centaurs. I don't remember the youth's name, but the synopsis of the story, as my almost nine year old memories recall, is as follows. Born to a winged mother, the boy is the only male member of his race born for years. There is one other who is bittered by age. He turns out to be the fullfillment of a prophecy and enemies arise to face him. There is more but I don't trust my memories enough to commit them to the written word. However, I do recomend the book. It is a good read.

If you love pickles but worry about the perservatives harming your health from the pickles, this book is right for you. It is very simple and fast to get crispy, yummy vegetables. Not your familiar salad dressing, however, if you are close to any Asian grocery store or just order on line for things like kombu and bonito, you will get it done easily by following the photos step by step.

Before I became entranced by Japanese cuisine I had no idea how much pickles were a part of the experience. Since I've begun my education into Japanese food, I have been stunned by the sheer variety of tsukemono.

I made one of the quick cabbage pickles, which took about twenty minutes to have the best crisp, salty pickled cabbage I have ever eaten. I stood in the kitchen and ate it all! It was so delicious that I set about to make as many pickles as I could from the book.

All of them have been successful and tasty. I have impressed friends and family with my tsukemono - we eat them with everything - not just Japanese food. They make great accompaniment to picnic food and are perfect for bento box lunches.

This full color book is exquisite with photos for every recipe and photos on preparation too. I am so happy this was my first book on tsukemono, I am addicted!

Great encyclopedia of Far Eastern pickles.......2004-10-18

This book is full of color photos, not just of finished dishes, but of the main ingredients before cooking. This is especially helpful for those of us who are not Japanese and who do not know what a particular Japanese ingredient is. Of course many of these ingredients may not be available in regular supermarkets, but if you go to an Asian supermarket, especially a Japanese specialty store, you will find them there. Personally I never liked Western style pickles (too sour) so I am happy to find this book. I like to make them the night before so I have pickled vegetables the next morning for breakfast, along with hot cereal that's cooked overnight from a crock pot - I hate cooking for breakfast in the morning! These pickles are so refreshing they are great when eaten with a heavy, fatty dish, or as an appetizer. All recipes are very easy and some steps are even pictured in full color in case you are not sure about the procedure. There are also a few recipes that use pickles as ingredients.

The recipes are easy to follow. Some of the recipes have photos picturing specific steps of the recipes and all have the finished product photo. This book will also recommend different recipes & their page numbers for the originally called for main vegetable, which gives you a large variety of tsukemono recipes. There are also some suggestions on using the finished products in main dish recipes.

This is a really well organized book. I find it very helpful. The author has conveyed all of her methodology clearly yet leaves room for the reader to improvise, build and create new tricks. We have and continue to enjoy the book.

Easiest book to understand and actually do/teach from.......2007-09-28

There's a reason for the weimaraner on the cover: they learn exceptionally fast, however this book includes several other breeds. The photos and explanations are top notch minus a comment of poor taste which I wouldn't share with children or would intentionally overlook, change the page, ignore due to its content. Hands down, this is the best I've seen and the tricks are well organized, broken down into steps that are learnable. Don't leave the book near a puppy while you're not looking. Ours has been chewed a bit due to the frequency with which we refer to it! and it got left within reach of pup. It's a great coffee table book too, but then, if you're training your pup, and the tricks are endless, you'll never get bored--it's just a question of how much time do you have? your dog will be the show piece. Don't forget to charge admission.

I suggest buying 3 copies of this book... not 1...
First, because its a great coffee table book... hey, Chelcy (the author's dog) is a Weimeraner - - and both are very photogenic - - on top of it, the graphic design and lay-out of the book are not only sensitive and informative, but very visually appealing... You can feel the excitement and enthuisiasm

Second - - its a fantastic reference book... and the idea of thinking "tricks" instead of cut and dry obediance I think is great for both the trainer and the dog. Though most of the tricks do have elements of obediance to them, they are presented in a way that makes training your dog more fun and lightharded and you're not thinking, "good dog"/"bad dog"/"leash correction" - - In fact, I like the way the author not only has troubleshooting tips for each tricks, but will even give some ideas how difficult the trick is, what tricks need to be learned first, and how long it takes some dogs to learn. - - Also, all descriptions use simple, practical and effective language... The descriptions match up with the photos and the points are gotten across in a way that communicates the ideas to you and teaches you to teach them to your dog.

Finally... buy a third copy because... some dogs *cough* have tendencies to nibble on certain people's reading material, especially when allowed in the bed. (o.k. that's an obedience issue.)

As for the tricks, they range from basic sit/stay/rollover agility type tricks - - to classics like "bring me a beer"/"bring the newspaper" as well as a few parlor tricks/routines. The book also explains standard hand signals as well as commands.

Incidentally - - there I would like a refund for 2 of the tricks. One involves the human doing a handstand, the other a cratwheel... Trust me, if you're the "bring me my beer" trick type, you won't be doing those two...

All in all, this is one book that lives up to its own hype! Highly recommended!

Very good instructions with clear illustrations. Have done about a half a dozen so far and my dog caught on very quickly. Lots of fun.

I first read Captain Haggerty and CArol Benjamin's Dog Tricks TeachingYour Dog to be Useful, Fun and Entertaining and I then found this book which I did not think was as comprehensive as the Haggerty book, although it was a nice little book. In fact, I felt like with some tricks in this book they were coming straight from Haggety's book. The Haggerty book has a LOT more tricks too and are easier to follow. That is a classic.

We just started to get through this book and we already like it! It gives us so much fun and helps make better relationship between me and dogs. Completely new approach to the dog training, with a lot of humour! I'll send my comments again, when we'll finish this book.

Broken down into very easy to understand (& remember) steps.......1998-07-14

I first read "Dog Tricks: New Tricks for Old Dogs, Old Tricks for New Dogs, and Ageless Tricks...", and though I found it amusing and a little helpful, I ran into problems if my dog did not immediately pick up on the trick. That's why I purchased "Step by Step." It's broken down extremely well, helps you understand your dog and his learning ability, and therefore helps you teach your dog the tricks. At first I thought it a little repetitive, but found that the synopsis after the longer explanation makes it easy to go back later to double check what you're doing.

Let your imagination be your guide! This book gives alot of ideas about training your dog to do tricks. It gives ideas about understanding your dog so that you can train the dog more easily. It's very easy to follow and complete with a wonderful glossary in the back.

What Doesn't This Genius Write About?.......2000-02-22

I have no idea how one person can shove all of this vast knowledge into one brain, but Mike Schneider does it...and does it repeatedly. He masterfully depicts the Ceramic Arts pieces with stunningly clear and crisp photographs (taken by the author). The dialogue in the book goes beyond normal collectible books and surpasses some of the novels I've read recently. Bottom line--this book is an asset to any collector, as are Schneider's other books (9 in all--on 9 differing subjects...WOW! )

Excellent photos; was disappointed that it did not include values for additional pieces in sets he discussed. For example, I have 3 of 4 ballerinas he discussed but he did not give a price for one I have that he didn't. I am looking forward to his next edition.

I had no idea of the variety or quality of figurines that Ceramic Arts Studio Pottery made. This book is packed with lots of color photos and useful information! This is a must have book for dealers and collectors of people and animal figurines made in the USA!

This lovely hardbound edition makes a great addition to any Eames collection. The contents include a brief history of the designers along with examples of their furniture. Each piece is shown in different settings and positions. Wonderful diagrams show the breakdown of the materials. It is written in german, french and english.
