Could Not Put It Down.......2004-01-22

Yes, it is lengthy, and yes, it suspends reality on the subject of Irene's ability to cause the Forsyte men to fall in love with her; nevertheless, I am hooked, and will be so sorry when these last fifty pages are read!
If you want to read a generational story that does not include lots of steamy or bloody scenes, but rather mentions them in passing, this is the one for you. True, once or twice I have wished there had been more discussion: people's reactions to trysyts, to deaths, to surprises... but taken as a whole, the book really does strike the note that time swallows, or at least blurs, so much familial pain.

Read the book. If you are watching the Masterpiece Theatre produciton, the book will matter to you even more. And yes, the book is better! Though the actor who portrays Soames is pretty yum, in real life!

Too much infidelity and family drama.......2003-03-08

According to the publisher, this book is a satire of monied English family at the turn of 1900's. Monied Soames Forsyte was "offered" a marriage by the beautiful (so much so that all Forsyte men fall for her at varying degree) Irene who had none. Well, Irene as rebellious as beautiful, might I add self centered as much, leaves Soames to be with her lover. Her lover happenes to be her niece's (by marriage)fiancee. He, Bosinney, ends up being killed by an accident so she comes back to Soames for a short period of time. She leaves her married life but she happened to meet up with a charmed uncle(by marriage) who settles a handsome inheritance. Now next is the uncle's son (old Jolyon and the son young Jolyon), who had committed himself an affair with the governess while married with a daughter, falls for Irene and so they become lovers....
How could have this went on -ever!- in anyone's life time, in England or anywhere else. This story demoralizes human society and makes people without sympathy and forgiveness. Least of all, the ending line is very dark, that a person wishing and wishing can never get: beauty and loving.
Did not enjoy the book, frustrated with the dvd/video, I will settle with "The Aristocrats."

Necromancer Games' tagline is "Third Edition Rules, First Edition Feel" and Barakus embodies it quite nicely. Combining a fully-developed metropolis, a massive dungeon and a number of side quests in and around both, with more than a dozen key NPCs, Kenower and Webb have delivered a product equal to some of the best WotC sourcebooks. It's both comprehensive enough to build an entire campaign around, and flexible enough to pick and choose elements to add to existing campaigns. Granted, some of the plotlines are rather generic, but that's forgiveable. What's not is its editing, or lack thereof, as the number of typos and spelling and grammatical errors is terrible! Despite that, it's worth the price of admission.

This book is another fine entry in the Williams Sonoma cookbook collection. I have several others in the series, and they are all outstanding books with easy to follow recipes and good pictures. This one focuses on traditional "American" food, such as the "Classics" (for example, N.E. Clam Chowder, Cobb Salad, Macaroni and Cheese, Meat Loaf, Beef Chili), "Starters" (Tomato Soup, Buffalo Chicken Wings), "Main Courses" (Panfried Trout, Short Rib and Beef Stew), "Potatoes, Grains and Beans (Twice Baked Potatoes, Baking Soda Biscuits), "Vegetables," and "Desserts" (Bourbon Pecan Pie). The book is a handsome way to present these easy to follow recipes. The end of the book contains cooking tips, glossary, etc. The format is nice, with a picture of the food on one side of the page and the recipe on the other side, so you can lay the book flat while you are cooking. In an attempt to educate myself before bringing my shih tzu puppy home I stumbled onto this book. I have purchased others and this by far provided the most information that was helpful to me. Many others focus on showing these wonderful dogs and that is fine but not what I intend to do. This book gives basic info about this specific breed and their needs. I would highly recommend this book.

This book is by far the best to get when you purchase a new Shih Tzu. I bought three books ( including this one ) and this was by far the most useful information without too much fluff. The other books were more into show dog do's and don'ts. As I bought my dog for companionship and to be a great dog for my kids, which he is without question, I didn't need that. Great Little Manual for New Owners.......2007-03-08

We recently acquired a new 7 week old Shih Tzu puppy. I purchased this book a few weeks before we brought the puppy home. It is chock-full of great facts, little tid-bits of interesting information about the breed and helpful tips in a variety of areas that include how to find a Shih Tzu, feeding, grooming, training and general care. It is well written, easy to understand and not overdone. The author also does not bombard the reader with her opinions, but rather makes suggestions on the topics.

This book is a great "Beginners Manual" for first time Shih Tzu owners.

This book is a feast for the eyes, featuring homes owned by craftspersons of exceptional talent. Each dwelling is designed and decorated to display its owners' specialty. I have a long way to go if I am ever going to have a home that shows my talents like these do. The interiors are designed not for the latest trend shown in the magazines but are true to the craftsmen that live there. Harsh, thrilling, and scary. This book its great!.......2007-04-17

From Pieces To Weight was a great book and I gave it five stars because of the writer's vivid descriptions of the harsh things that he experienced in his life. 50 Cent had to go through a really rough life. His mom died when he was a kid and he never new who his father was. 50 Cent knew he was going to be a drug dealer because everyone in his family sold drugs. I'm not going to give away the rest of the book but I suggest you read this book, it is really good.

Decent book for 50 Cent fans.......2007-03-22

I recently purchased this book for my fiance, who, obviously, loves 50 Cent. He read the first 50 pages the day it arrived, and I must tell you, he is NOT the type of person to sit down and read a book. It's about 50's life in Southside Queens and his experiences as a child up until his fame. While my fiance finds this book inspirational and exciting, I find the writing style to be fairly simple with 50 reiterating well-known facts (ex. You can't have life without death) and also presenting himself as an arrogant, almost martyr-type of character. Why do I say that? He talks about himself and his experiences in life (which may or may not be exaggerated) and repeatedly states that what he has gone through should be used as an example to others. He blames the media for his portrayal as a "bullet riddled rapper" but obviously, 50 uses it to his advantage without much complaint. He tries to come off as a mentor and inspiration, but I really did find him irritating at times. I think their are better role models for others to look up to. I'd rather read Sidney Poitier's memoirs than idolize 50 Cent. But that's just my view. For 50 Cent lovers, they'll be inspired and amazed.

I read the book From Pieces to Weights, by 50 cent. This book showed me how the streets are a hard place. There are a lot of people that think the streets are a horrible place and that there dangerous. Well they are dangerous, but there not horrible and many people think that there are horrible people that live in the area. This book showed me that many people on the streets hustling are really trying to find themselves. This book also showed me not to judge the people that are selling the drugs.

This book really touched me with what 50 cent was going though. His mom was killed for selling drugs and then he went and started to sell drugs. I really think he didn't have a choice because it's what he saw everyday. He watched his aunts and uncles and everyone else on the streets, and he probably thought that it was the right thing to do. This book was very well writing and I got hooked to it. I think 50 cent did a great job at telling his story.

I would recommend this book to anyone, I think mostly people who don't really know about the streets because it tells you a lot. I wouldn't recommend this book to people that do not like bad language used a lot. This book was very entertaining. I suggest you read it.

Pieces to Weight is really good. It is a straightforward and interesting read and gives you a glimpse into the forces that created 50 Cent and sustain his own continuing evolution of his image. It answers a lot of the street questions you may have about him, puts you in on street drug deals with him, and pulls you through a lot of his painful, sometimes scary and frustrated life. You rehabilitate with him though his excruciatingly painful injuries while the people around him go in and out of his life, sometimes supporting him and sometimes betraying him.

If you are curious about the forces that forged the man, and you enjoyed works like Pimp, the Story of my Life by Iceberg Slim or the Donald Goines series of books, this one will be a great read for you. Careful, your friends will "borrow" it and you won't ever see it again.

50 defers to Eminem, but he is the world-wide poster child for hard core, gangsta rap. One of the attributes (besides the "glamour" of being shot five times and surviving) that separates him from the rest is his attention to the details of his work, his professionalism, and the quality of his product. 50's music (from Dr. Dre and the other elite of the industry), plus his own growth as a musician, producer and hook writer has the unmistakable stamp of realism, talent and hard work. Some people, like me, think this equals genius. No wonder everything he touched turned to gold (platinum).

Love him or hate him, 50 is a mirror image of our society which is prudish about sex but glorifies violence, that sometimes treats our fellow citizens in the inner city like foreigners to either ignore or oppress. He literally is our creation. Facinating read.

HUGE ERROR.......2007-05-20

Cleopatra was of the Ptolemaic dynasty, therefore she was of Greek descent. The family was in-bred, brother wed sister. She was Greek, certainly not Egyptian (black).

I have owned both of these books for over 15 years. I have lectured at Harvard University, MIT, Umass Amherst, Amherst College and other places citing references from J.A. Rogers exhaustive research. He was greatly ahead of his time and any one of his books are worth their weight in gold. I am a self-taught historian and have been lecturing for 16 years now and consider J.A. Rogers' easy to read,informative style the best ever. He tells his readers about many Africans and others of African descent that achieved great feats while many Europeans were still in savagery. He discusses the first recorded Dr. Imhotep. Hatshepsut (Queen ruler who has a temple that still stands). Makeda, Clitus (General with Alexander the Great), King Taharqa (mentioned in the Bible) and many other great figures. I have all 14 of his books and would not trade one for a bar of gold. His research vastly improved my confidence in the achievement of Africans the world over that have been hidden from general knowledge for lifetimes. If anyone doubts the works of J.A. Rogers I would debate them any place using his research and embarrass you with the research you bring.

The great thing about his works are he just calmly states the facts without tearing any other race or civilization down. How many other works do that? Also with his vast research he could have berated many other races and civilizations, but chose not to waste his time and just stated the facts.

We all greatly benefit still from what he dedicated his life to!

The revisnist history, appears to come from ppl like this new orleans critic who doesnt know much about history or its remaining artifacts... The old kingdom and predynasty clearly shows so-called African negro's as the rulers of Egypt not the fantasy semitci nonsense born of 17th/18th western racist... As far as Cleopatra, there were quite a few Cleopatra's through different dynasty periods... of course one would know this if they cared to research properly... Also, Hannibal was always described as being a Afrikan... regardless of in mulatto traits... Its funny how europeans when they can't take Afrikans out of the area which would give us high regard, they must somehow convince others they would should be seen as sub-human, stock, negro, primitive, simple minded, etc... This is clearly white male dogma, since these particular white males are obviously suffering from a inferiority complex, [...] envy, etc.. which activates some defense mechanism within them as they can only see themselves in a competition with other males outside of their circles... Of course this also reflects on what most women desire as well... But, thats too obvious to point out...

Anyway, J.A. Rogers has done a excellent job of putting Afrikans back into the civilize arena where we belong... Of course any fool who would listen to the empty ramblings of angry insecure white males as being some say all authority of what is legit, needs a wake up call...

Notice that racism over a 2,000+ period has been the perpetration of white males or indo-aryans who try to justify such uncivilized behavior through their socio-political opinions, their empty spiritual system (religion), and psuedo-science of survival of the fittest... I guess the latter makes sense for these groups who have genetically undergone a mutated change do to hardship of having to survive with limited resources in areas that did not produce enough edible vegetation... Which led to heavy consumption of eating animals and stealing from others... a habit the europeans are still practicing... as a badge of honor... p.i

J.A. Roger's Best Book: A classic.......2002-04-23

Although this is old, it provides good insights about famous men of African Heritage

Ahead of his time.......2001-10-23

JA Rodgers was ahead of his time when it came to historical reserch. He exposed alot of things that even in our xenophobic world we are afriad to talk about. He discovered through his reserch many of the great people of the past was infact blacks,and that they had been covered up by white wash over centuries. People should read these books with an open mind,because it explains alot in our soceity that are very race conscious people. I learned about Al Jahiz though him and he taught me about many great people I had never even heard of. I never knew about lokman the southern Arabian sage that was considered one of the wisest men. I never knew about the black vikings in this book called blaumen. The book also discussed how many people of the royal family have indeed black ancestry and how they have tried to hide these facts. Get this book to expose the truth and check out other JA Rodgers books.
