Book Description
The latest in this enchanting and fast-selling series, featuring the beloved ghost Aunt Dimity, opens in a picturesque English cottage where the lovable Lori Shepherd is up to her elbows in pureed carrots and formula bottles, striving to be the perfect mother to twins! Luckily, a beautiful Italian nanny arrives just in time--so Lori can help settle the local civil war stirred up by a visiting archaeologist's excavation.
With Reginald, the stuffed pink rabbit and Edmond Terrance, the stuffed tiger in tow, Lori hunts down a missing document, and the archaeologist digs up a lot more than artifacts. It is Aunt Dimity's magic blue notebook that provides the key to buried secrets and domestic malice, and shows all the residents of Finch that even the darkest acts can be overcome by forgiveness.

Aunt Dimity Digs In. .......2006-07-10
My husband and I really enjoy the escapades of the characters in the Aunt Dimity books. Love them. I am 71 my husband is 83. Lydia Angell
COZY INDEED.......2006-03-20
The Aunt Dimity series puts the "c" in cozy, those little mysteries that are usually tame in terms of violence and profanity/sex. Which is alright, we need these kind of books. Don't expect a lot of action or dark mystery in this one though. Aunt Dimity's journal writing spirit helps new mother Lori find out what's going on in the little village of Finch. An archaelogist and his team has the town in an uproar when ancient Roman coins are found in a dig site. The local matron, Peggy Kitchen, is all agog because the vicar has let Dr. Adrian Carver use the schoolhouse to house his equipment. She wants to use it for her annual Harvest Festival. When a pamphlet shows up that intimates the dig is a fake, it is stolen and Lori has to find out who stole it. Author Nancy Atherton has small town life and its eccentrics down pretty good and the book while not an exciting read is pleasant enough and should please fans of the true cozies!
Great book for a rainy afternoon with tea..........2005-10-19
Lori Shepard and her husband Bill are new parents of twin boys. Lori is finding motherhood more difficult than expected as she trys to make the entire house child proof but it's only adult proof. Aunt Dimity steps in and in her ghostly way finds a nanny for the boys and a case to be solved by Lori. This time the mystery is a stolen booklet from the vicarage. All while the town is in an up roar since an archelogist has taken over the church school hall and they may not be able to have the faire.
As usual, Aunt Dimity helps Lori to understand herself and others and leads the way to a better understanding for all. However, this doesn't solve the mystery of the stolen booklet, the witches in the dell, the alien landing craft, or the Roman craze among the villagers.
It's romping good fun. Light and refreshingly comfortable to believe in a town of true neighbors.
Very disappointing.......2005-09-22
This isn't up to the standards of past Aunt Dimity tales. I found myself just slogging through to get to the end. The characters aren't believeable at all, the ones that ARE believable aren't likeable, the plot is flimsy to say the least, and no real crime is committed! If this had been the first in the series, I would never have bought another Aunt Dimity book.
Aunt Dimity Digs In.......2005-07-17
We find Lori back in her cozy cottage with her husband, Bill, and their 3 month old twin sons. With the arrival of a new nanny also comes a lot of mystery for the little town of Finch. Mysterious people, mysterious motives and a mysterious past.
When the vicar and his wife ask Lori for help after a burglary, she cant say no. She digs up many more questions, however, than answers.
In this, the fourth, book in the Dimity series we meet some new characters that will be sure to return, as well as some of our favorites from previous books. These books are a wonderful read on a rainy day or any day. A great book to sit down with a cup of tea and a blanket. I adore this series and look forward to the next.

Well written entry in series.......2001-03-05
As with all books in TOR's "Conan" series, any resemblance the main character has to Robert E. Howard's creation is purely coincidental. Despite that, however, this is a well-crafted sword & sorcery novel about a warrior whose mercenary band is betrayed by their employer. The band then strikes back against the traitor's army and pet wizard.
The main problem with the book is the climax of the story. *** SPOILER *** Like many entries in this series, the author sets up a wizard as the main threat to Conan's plans and then builds towards Conan destroying the character. Unfortunately, Conan screws up only to be saved by a magical creature with little connection to the rest of the story.
A good read if you like this series, though.

Book Description
High Crimes Call for High PunishmentIt is the twenty-first century. Convicts are sentenced to asteroids that move in ever-widening solar orbits, timed to return when their terms run out. But a few ambitious administrators discover that small "errors" in velocity can rid them of selected groups altogether: the hardcore violent, the mentally defective, and especially the political dissidents. Enduring the black vise of interstellar space-time, these human rejects--men and women mixed together--create their own Darwinian societies, struggling to survive.
Back on Earth, a handful of sympathetic and curious scientists have not forgotten these lost citizens. When a technological breakthrough makes it possible to overtake these scattered asteroids, a courageous team sets out to go where none has willingly gone before. What they discover in these "brute orbits" is both provocative and moving--a startling vision of humanity you will never forget.

Zebrowski's essay on the failures of the American prison system.......2005-12-24
WARNING - There is graphic sexual violence against women in this book.
As my title states, this book is basically a means for Zebrowski to share his views of the American prison system. If you are interested in the subject, then read the book. There are pages and pages of his viewpoints. Many times I had to reread a paragraph just to figure out what he was trying to say.
There is not much of a plot here. Prisoners are placed in hollowed out asteroids. Other than Zebrowski's opinions, it is an exploration of how different types of criminals could survive with each other in isolation. As expected, it brings out the worst in human beings. There is graphic sexual violence which is not for the meek.
Began good, but ended poorly.......2005-07-31
Great concept. However, the author seems to have run up against an editor's deadline and rushed to finish the book. Also, I thought the author was too graphic at times dealing with sexual deviants and other criminal activities.
Too short.......2002-01-11
The idea of putting penal colonies in space is really interesting. Zebrowski tries to tell the story of the individuals in the colonies and at the same time examine the long term social effects of hurling thousands of people into a closed environment in only 200 pages. This brevity resulted in the isolation of both ideas. What we get is the beginning and the end of what could have been a good book had the middle not been left out.
purty good book....i like it alot ( in different senses).......2000-11-09
okay..i thought this book was great. i found it intersting to learn about what the would do to all those criminals. what really baffleed me was the way it was written. so vivid that u could actaully feel like u were there. the criminal's were more or less..like those that u would find nowadays. the living inside the astroeids seemed so magnificently odd. however, this book had lost o' ideas and pointerz in it that would make one think. (p.s. : i am a teen...i don't know y i read this bk. i found it in the libraryt in adult fic section. i'm addicted 2 adualt fic bks. i like the Dragonriders series and all. adult fic books r soo kewl. and i luv sci-fi/fantasy mix bkz)
Good start, but trails off.......2000-06-19
After reading the back of the book, I was very interested in the concept of putting criminals on hollowed out asteroids and putting them into cometary orbits. As I progressed through the book, however, it seemed to lose focus for me. I was expecting a lot more about the actual people in the asteroids and not so much about how humanity has treated and viewed criminals. After a while, I found myself skimming the second half of the book looking for the parts I wanted to find out about.
In all, the concept for the book was great, but for me it failed to deliver what I was expecting. I would rather have read about how the criminals dealt with their new reality. This is written about, but not to any great lengths. There is a lot of in between the lines kind of reading and that felt unnecessary to me.
This book is still worth reading, even if you skim over parts of it.

Disappointed.......2006-05-17
I should have read the reviews before I bought this book. I feel very ripped off by it.
It does not follow the Zone recommendations, as others mention here. There is a lot of hidden sugar (for instance, one recipe calls for 9 T of ketchup, which is LOADED with sugar). Alcohol is used in a lot of the recipes, there is lots of bread and jam. As someone else mentioned, I couldn't believe the pringles. Also, much of the carbo stuff is not fresh produce. Almost every salad in the dinner selection includes mandarin oranges and the dressing is made with the sugary mandarin orange syrup.
Basically, the book completely disregards a lot of the core Zone principles, and is loaded with insulin spiking sugars, a lot of them hidden.
Andrea
buy a different cookbook.......2004-11-13
If you enjoy "cooking" with pringles, jello and miracle whip, then this "cookbook" is for you! The opening pages have many typos and repetition of sentences, which I at first thought was a mistake. But as I read the recipes I began to realize that inane repetition may just be the author's style. The "over 200 recipes" are basically just slight variations of one recipe, for example the Snack menu is as follows: Recipe 1: cottage cheese, apple, almonds. Recipe 2: cottage cheese, orange, almonds. And so on for one and a half pages! Little creativity exists in the recipes and most are just the previous recipe with one change (instead of writing "try this with pork or chicken", the whole recipe is re-written for a one-ingredient change.) This is a cookbook for the unimaginative.
A great cookbook!.......2004-05-26
This book was very helpful to me! I am not one who enjoys tofu or other 'dieting' type foods. And I don't have a lot of time to figure out the number of Carbs, Protein, and Fat Blocks in my food. I did the Zone diet for about three weeks without this book and I was getting tired of the food, and getting frustrated with the amount of time it was taking me to figure out my meals and go shopping. Faye Hoffoss has written a great cookbook here and she has taken the time to figure out all the Carb, Protein, and Fat Blocks for you. She even has a shopping list written out for each week for you! I have my parents on this diet with me and they are very excited to be getting some of these foods back into their diet. Again, this book may not follow Dr. Sears' model in the sense that it doesn't contain a lot of dieting foods, but it still helps keep you in the zone and the foods are good!
This is an all around good cookbook. I hope you enjoy it!
Zone Cooking Made Easy: 6 Weeks of Delicious Zone Balanced M.......2002-10-20
I just purchased this published cookbook but I have an advantage because of knowing Faye Hoffoss for a long time. I saw that she and her family were losing weight and of course asked her about it. I was 58 years old and was 173 pounds at the time. I have 2 sons and 2 daughters and 9 grandsons and like to keep close to my children and their families. I always prided myself in making good meals that they would enjoy. When I became health concious, I found it difficult to make healthy meals with ingredients we were not accustomed to. When I spoke with Faye, she gave me a copy of her book--that she had printed up before she had it published.
While trying different diets, I found it difficult to change cooking and eating habits. After talking to Faye Hoffoss and using the recipes from her unpublished book, I have gone from 173 pounds to 140 pounds. The book works for me and my family because it is using ingredients we love but balancing them so that we are satisfied. Balancing your foods make it much easier to eat at a restaurant. (It seems that when we get together, at home or in a restaurant, we love to eat. I have since purchased 4 of Barry Sears books and use recipes from his books but use Faye Hoffoss' book more. . I am slowly incorporating healthier eating habits by adding things like whole wheat bread and unprocessed rice. I have to say, not just because she is my friend, that the only way for me to have a permanent weight loss is to make foods that we are familier with--and that are closest to the way we have always eaten. (At home, and in the restaurants.)
I just purchased her published book, one must have a friend's published works!!!!!(However, I will keep the published one for display but will continue to use the copy Faye gave me before having it published.) BOTH BOOKS CONTAIN THE SAME RECIPES WITH ONLY MINOR CHANGES IN THE PUBLISHED VERSION. I recommend the book, because it works for me, a grandmother that likes to have my family come to home to eat.
Why I wrote this book.......2002-09-18
I am truly sorry if my book is a disappointment. At the same time I am grateful for any complaints. It gives me the opportunity to say why I made the cookbook. Three years ago you could have called my family "The Fat Family," 50 pounds or more overweight and heading for some serious health problems. My grown daughter (the only skinny person in my family) introduced me to the "Zone Diet." The rest of my family hated a lot of the foods Barry Sears suggested. They found the food too different, craved food that we could no longer eat, and refused to eat the meals I spent hours preparing. I had to compromise. We may not be strictly in "The Zone," but we have lost close to 200 pounds, our blood pressure and cholesterol are in great shape and we feel much better. Since losing most of the excess weight, we have taken one day off every week or so to treat ourselves to a "normal" dinner. We eat a balanced breakfast, lunch and snack, but for dinner that day we eat anything we want, including dessert, such as cake, ice cream, pie, or whatever decadent food we may be craving. We then eat a zone snack before bed to put us back in "The Zone." We haven't gained any weight and are still losing. This is a lifetime commitment. People fail because they go on strict diets only to find they can't live with it forever.
Let's face it, there are people out there who want to lose weight but don't have the willpower to stick with such a drastic change. There are also some who would make the drastic change, only to go back to their old eating habits when they find it too restricting. They not only gain back the weight they lost, they usually gaining the weight back, or worse, end up weighing more than when they started. "Yo Yo Dieting." My book is for that kind of person. We are happy with this diet. It's one that we can easily live with for the rest of our lives.

Customer Reviews:
Good book, but has a lot of recycled material........2006-11-18
This is a good, somewhat comprehensive book with nice pictures. However, don't buy it if you already have Koi: Living Jewels of the Orient. A lot of the text is the same, word for word, as are a lot of the pictures.
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
5 stars for fresh water 3 for salt........2007-03-20
When I first bought this book it was for information with fresh water fish and it covers them with a commendable amount of detail. The book contains almost every fresh water fish that you are likely to encounter in a -mart store and the majority of average local fish stores. There are large pictures of every species covered as well as information on what kind of tank requirements that the fish will need helpful notes on a lot of the "beginner" fishes on how to get them to spawn in your home and if they can be placed in a community tank of if the fish should be kept alone. There are a few areas that the book has slightly outdated information and a anyone that has ever had a tank of Discus will quickly find a number of inaccuracies with there two page listing. The only criticism that I have about the freshwater section of the book is that the kill fish section is small, while this is common in most books it is always a disappointment.
The freshwater plant section of the book has some helpful information but is lacking light guides, but if you find a plant that is in the book and are thinking about adding it to your tank 30 seconds with google will give you all the missing information.
I have been keeping fresh water fish since I was in grade school and now 20 something years later I am setting up my fist salt water tank. The book assumes that I know a lot of things that I don't and there are a number of items referenced but not explained that someone new to saltwater does not know often leaving me with more questions then answers, maybe when I have a little more experience with salt water the information will be handy.
I rely can not comment on the pond fish area of the book, I don't have any experience with ponds or any idea if the information is complete.
Decent.......2006-11-16
This book is a decent source for an overview of a number of fish. It does seem to be missing a lot of fish that are somewhat common in fishtanks, such as puffer fish, etc. If you're looking for a general book with lots of pictures then this book can satisfy. However if you're looking for more in depth information or specific fish, this book can be hit and miss.
One of the better books on aquarium fishes........2006-09-27
This book is one of the better books on aquarium fishes I have ever seen. It covers all kinds of fishes: freshwater, marine and pond fishes, but the tropical fishes section alone is worth the price. The photos are super. The information on each fish is concise; scientific name, origin, size, diet, water preference, temperament and a brief description are all in one place with the photo. That makes the book very easy to read. I particularly like the info on water hardness. Few books have this kind of information. Although it missed some very common fishes, it covers most of the fishes we likely find in the local pet shop.
OK book, lack of information.......2006-08-29
This book actually has a section for salt water fish and a section for freshwater plants. It is trying to cover everything with limited pages and left out some very important information.
Such as in the plant section, it does not list the information for lighting or CO2 requirement, which I think it is critical for any plant care.
If the book can add some information such as easy/hard to care indicator for all fish and plants, that will be a great help too.
I also find that there are some very common fish missing, such as shovelnose cats, some rainbows, rams (it does not list the rams but has some information scattered all over the book).
On the plus side, the pictures are all good and I really enjoy them. Overall, it is an OK book. I just wish it has more information. Consider what I paid for this book, I guess it is not bad at all.
My Review for the book Aquarium & Pondfish.......2006-08-01
I found this book to be very imformative and full of wonderful pictures and information on almost any aquarium or pond fish you could imagine! A big thumbs up!!!!

Book Description
Gems and jewels have, since the beginnings of civilization, been prized as tokens of love, as symbols of wealth and social status, or as objects endowed with magical or religious significance. In Gems and Jewels, internationally renowned gem expert and dealer Benjamin Zucker reveals much of the history and mystique surrounding these precious objects.
Divided into chapters devoted to rubies, sapphires, emeralds, white diamonds and colored diamonds, pearls, amber, lapis lazuli, jade, turquoise, opals, and garnets, Gems and Jewels features compelling descriptions and insights into the chemical composition of these stones, the methods and styles of cutting them in different periods, discussions of outstanding specimen stones-such as the Tiffany diamond-and comparisons of key differences in shades of color within one type of gemstone-as in the case of opals from Australia and Mexico, and sapphires from Kashmir and Ceylon.
A gorgeous illustrated book for lovers of gems and jewels and an important volume for professionals, this unique volume also provides the vital clues that enable the expert eye to distinguish between natural and synthetic stones, and between natural and cultured pearls, and also supplies guidelines on methods of grading and on relative market values.
Customer Reviews:
Good book but dated!.......2004-04-16
When Gems & Jewels was first published twenty years ago it was the first book to approach breaking the gem trade's taboo against telling the consumer anything that would help him to develop connoisseurship in gems. I say approached because although an excellent gemological geography book Zucker approached but never really revealed the truth about quality grading. Whenever he came close and he often came frustratingly close, he would take refuge in statements such as "finer jewelry stores have traditionally provided guidence..."
As of 2004 the text is dated and color imaging technology has passed this book by. The photos are mushy and dull compared to newer texts.
Interested in developing connoisseurship? I recommend a new book entitled Secrets Of The Gem Trade, The Connoisseur's Guide To Precious Gemstones. The author, Richard Wise, delivers on the promise contained in the title, it truly is a connoisseur's guide filled with fabulously accurate color photographs of the exceptional examples of the 35 gemstone varieties covered in the book.

Book Description
This in-depth survey of the visual arts in Wales addresses the practice of individual artists and the infrastructure in which they work. These essays cover a wide array of artists, such as established painters Ivor Davies and the late Ernest Zobole; younger painters like Neal Howells, Elfyn Lewis, and Sue Williams; installation artist David Hastie; and the internationally acclaimed performance artist Andre Stitt. Also explored is what art might mean to the Welsh people in essays about the representation of Welsh history and culture in the visual arts. The controversial issue of how art is curated in Wales and who decides what the public sees is also discussed.

Book Description
THE FIRST PRESIDENT
Documented national history states that the nation's first president had no children. But the oral history of the descendants of this African American family tells a different story.
THE CONTROVERSY
Many people will believe the story of George Washington fathering a slave son. Others will find it difficult, if not impossible, to believe that Washington had an intimate relationship with a slave named Venus. Their fateful union during the era of antebellum slavery produced a son, West Ford.
THE SECRET
As time and space distanced the Ford family from its beginnings at Mount Vernon, each generation continued to walk a precarious line, bearing the weight of their heritage and battling issues of skin color, status, and identity. Linda Allen Bryant, a descendant of West Ford, pens her family's narrative history in I Cannot Tell a Lie. Their genealogy is rich in adventure, love, tragedy, sacrifice and courage--a story that will haunt you long after you turn the last page.

Trash.......2007-06-18
"It may be proper to observe that a good moral character is first essential in a man."
A man that says that doesn't cheat on his wife of many years, fornicate with a slave and produce an illegitamate child.
Lies about George Washington:
1) He had wooden teeth
2) He chopped down a cherry tree and never told a lie
3) He threw a silver dollar across the Potomac
4) He loved his best friend's wife (Sally Fairfax) while married to his wife
5) He was not a christian, possibly an athiest, at best a diest
6) He had a child with a slave
Avoid this book. I've read many books about this human and find that such books as this are hard to digest.
Lies by a lying liar.......2007-06-18
I don't care if I am the first to say this but this story is a disgraceful piece of fiction! I know that there has been a significant amount of work done relating to Washington's sterility from Small Pox when he visited Barbados to see his dying brother. In many years of happy, loving marriage with his beloved Patsy (Martha) he could not produce children. He also was noted for a great deal of self-control in all matters. It would have been his damnation of reputation to have had been intimate with his slaves. At best this is speculation, at worst it is insulting. It reminds me of the tabloids. Washington was a man of morals and restraint, not an adulterer. It is perplexing that amazon let several people post twice with reviews, hence the books' high mark. I suggest reading only books published from/by Mount Vernon.

George Washington liked a little chocolate.......2006-08-06
This book was very hard to put down. If you do not read another history book in your life, you MUST READ this one. Not only did I learn a lot about last names in slavery days, but how our people were treated, such a the story in the book about the dog and the man with one arm. It as sad to see the daughter passing and not being proud of who she is and where see came from. Since I have not finished the book, I will write a review about the next 200 pages when I'm finished.
American History 101.......2004-11-08
The book is a great read, and contains documented evidence of the very strong connection of the Fords to the Washington family. I don't think you will find ANY slaveowners leaving a former slave 160 acres of land in a will without a family connection. That fact alone is proof to me of the relationship. Of course, it is easy to blame it on the ubiquitous "nephew," as happened with the Thomas Jefferson-Sally Hemings case. Truth be known, there is unlikely to be a single Virginia founding-father-type, "aristocratic" slave-owning family without its black offshoot. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and these folks had total and complete power over their slaves, and nature was bound to take its course. I know of other stories such as this, and have a few in my family that will probably never be told, at least not by me. In my spouse's family, it was the ninth governor of Alabama. What a country this is! If we can ever come to tell the truth about beginnings, maybe we can commence to really move forward toward building the kind of nation that we claim we are.
Why Don't We Know This?.......2003-02-11
Why has this story not been told more in the public eye? It's 2003 and still we hide behind the issue of "color". Congratulations to the Ford family and their claim to the Washington Legacy.
