A missing teenager and an octogenarian found dead of apparently natural causes are pretty run-of-the-mill cases in Bisbee, Arizona, where Sheriff Joanna Brady is focusing on the last-minute details of her upcoming wedding. In this latest outing in Judith Jance's Brady series, the connection between the two events is a thin one. In the author's capable hands, however, it's enough to drive this well-plotted mystery to a credible conclusion.
Fifteen-year-old Lucy Ridder dreads her mother's release from prison, eight years after she was convicted of killing Lucy's beloved father. Lucy is aware that her mother's priority is not a family reunion but the retrieval of a mysterious diskette entrusted to Lucy by her dad shortly before his death. After inadvertently witnessing her mother's brutal slaying by a stranger who's also hot after the diskette, Lucy vanishes. It takes most of the novel for Joanna to figure out that Lucy's disappearance is tied to her mother's murder, and for good reasons. Besides the distraction of her pending nuptials, the sheriff has been accused of killing her elderly, beloved neighbor for financial gain. Because the reader knows the truth of both situations very early in the game, Joanna's delayed awareness doesn't pack as much wallop as it might. The greater mystery is whether she'll strangle her wedding-obsessed mother before she and her too-good-to-be-true fiancé make it to the altar. --Jane Adams
Book Description
In the night-still canyons of the Arizona desert, a girl is on the run. Alone but for her beloved red-tailed hawk, she flees from the dark shadows of her young life, the horror she has witnessed
and the terror that now stalks her.
New York Times bestselling author J.A. Jance returns with her eighth novel in the highly acclaimed Joanna Brady mystery series. Set against the backdrop of the modern west, this gripping tale finds Sheriff Brady juggling a precarious overload in both her personal and professional lives. About to be married, Joanna's facing a daughter turning twelve and going on twenty, a meddlesome mother micro-managing her wedding, and new in-laws arriving any day. The sudden death of her much-loved neighbor and handyman, Clayton Rhodes, creates further turmoil, leaving Joanna shocked, saddened, and the target of Clayton's irate and irrational daughter, who accuses the Sheriff's Department of covering up a possible murder.
But amidst the uproar, the report of a homicide at Cochise Stronghold in the Dragoon Mountains quickly captures Joanna's full attention. An Indian woman has been found shot to death--a woman recently released from prision after serving time for the manslaughter killing of her husband. She is the mother of a missing fifteen-year-old, Lucy Ridder.
The death at first appears to be a case of domestic rage finally exploding'and a troubled teen runaway may be a victim, or a cold-blooded killer. Yet as Joanna deals with the long-standing troubles of Clayton Rhodes' family and digs deeper into the mysterious life of Lucy and her family, she discovers that investigating family hostilities is leading her down a twisted trail of hatred, greed, and far-reaching consequences--and into a dangerous world where violence is the first response and long buried secrets are a reason to kill
or die.
Once again, J.A. Jance delivers a gritty, deftly written thriller that unfolds on a vivid landscape of raw beauty and unrelenting danger. And, as always, Sheriff Joanna Brady brings the setting to life with the sensitivity, spirit, and intense passion for justice that makes Jance novels ring with authenticity.

Not Jance's Usual Standard of Excellence, But Still Good!.......2005-04-04
Devil's Claw is another in the Joanna Brady series written by J.A. Jance and was released to little publicity. I'm not sure why the advertising was limited because it's a great addition to her on-going saga.
We're once again taken to Bisbee, Arizona and given a peek into the life of Joanna Brady, the only Arizona female sheriff. In the first book in this series, Desert Heat, Joanna's husband, a sheriff officer, had been killed in the line of duty, which left her alone to raise their young daughter, Jenny. Joanna was then elected Sheriff of Cochise County. It's much more involved than that, and I strongly urge you to read it - it's filled with wonderful descriptions, character depictions and a few plot twists that leave you holding on to your chair! In this book, we find Joanna preparing for her upcoming wedding to Butch. Not only is Joanna trying to get ready for the nuptials, she's having to deal with her over-bearing mother who wants more of a grand ceremony than Joanna desires. Along with those quandaries, is a murder case dumped into Joanna's lap that needs to be solved before she leaves on her honeymoon.
An ex-con is killed when returning to her mother's home near Cochise Stronghold (on the reservation near the mountains outside of Bisbee) and her young daughter, Lucinda, witnesses the crime. Lucinda runs away believing her life is in danger leaving her grandmother and the officials wondering if she is a suspect or an innocent bystander. Sound typical? It's not when you throw in the fact that Lucinda has a red-tailed hawk as a pet, and runs away on the Indian Reservation that she's called home for the past 7 years.
Typical of Jance's style, there are a few subplots thrown into the mix. Clayton Rhoades, Joanna's elderly neighbor that she pays to help feed her animals, dies and his obnoxious, egotistical daughter shows up blaming Joanna for killing her father by working him to death. We also have a small story about Kristen, Joanna's secretary, and her latest boyfriend, who happens to be part of Joanna's K-9 team.
The main plot is well developed, and the usual cast of characters we've come to expect don't let us down with their antics and interactions. It's a very good story but I found it less than the fantastic event I've come to expect from a new Joanna Brady book. If I had to describe it in one word, that word would be anti-climatic.
So much more could have been done with these story lines. For example, the final interaction between Joanna Brady and Clayton Rhoades daughter left me wondering what I missed - it was as if Jance was rushed and just ended it. It could have been so much more...
The wedding had little details and was written almost as an afterthought - in fact, it was written as the epilog. Huh??? Many of the wedding details had been minimal, including a bridal shower in which several of the characters from previous books make appearances. The wedding and honeymoon were glossed over.
After I finished reading the book, I let my mind wander and thought about "what could have been" with the ending. Rather than write the wedding as an epilog, it could have been a fantastic way to catch the reader up on what has been going on with the characters to which we've grown attached. A perfect example of this would be Angie Kellogg - ok, she was the maid of honor, but what's been going on with her and her English boyfriend who is the parrot man? Nothing else was said except she was the maid of honor. Gee, where's the details for which Jance is famous?
One of the big negatives I found in this book was the lack of editing. There were many typographical errors and I recommend that Ms. Jance fire her current editor so her next book can flow. Her devoted readers deserve better than the glaring mistakes that should have been found and omitted before publication.
This is one of the few books in which J.A. Jance left loose ends. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the book tremendously and would highly recommend it. It just wasn't up to the level I've come to expect from Jance!
Superb.......2003-01-09
This whole series is really a joy to read. The author can take Joanna from introspection to inspection of a crime scene in a few pages with very little problem in the transition. Although each book can be read on it's own as a stand alone novel, I have had much satisfication of reading them in order and watching the characters grow and change in each book.
This book lives up to the reputation of the author.
Joanna is planning her wedding, Butch is really, and chasing the bad guys at the same time. A young girl is missing, her mother, recently out of jail is murdered and the story begins.
The characters are believable and the story is tightly woven and thrilling. Well worth reading.
My first J.A. Jance experience.......2002-06-25
This is the first book I read from J.A. Jance, so I'm not very familiar with her work , so I'll try to read more of her later.
This book tell us the story of a Joanna Brady, a sheriff from a samll town in Arizona.
It tell us the story of a murder , a missing teenager and the fight for a will , everything happens just a week before her wedding takes place.
This is an ok book , it has an interesting begining with a good plot , and it is really interesting to read .
It would deserve 4 stars , but I didn't like the ending , it was a very good plot and I didn't like the way it finished , but that's just my opinion.
Read it , it's a good book , it's just not that great , after reading this , I'm more interested in reading more books of J.A. Jance and more about the Story of Joanna Brady.
"Saint" Joanna Brady?.......2002-01-26
I think I've read all of the Joanna Brady series published to date, and Devil's Claw is the last one I will read. The locations are great and the plotting is excellent, as far as the police procedural and mystery aspect of the story goes, but in her personal life, the central character is becoming just too saccharin to be believed. I find the personality differences between "Sheriff" Brady and "Mother" Brady unrealistic. Also, why is it that so many writers who make women their central characters have to make them single mothers? How about a tough, honest, dedicated sheriff who doesn't want any kids? That would be nice for a change.
A great way to start this series.......2002-01-22
Having just returned from two weeks in Tucson, this mystery hit the spot (and wrecked other weekend plans). The place names added a greater touch of credibility for me. I also just read a Fairstein and a Paretsky book, and much as I enjoy their characters and writing, the coincidences in their storylines become a bit absurd. Jance, on the other hand, weaves a well-connected plot in which everything is well meshed (like the Devil's Claw in basketweaving) without stepping over the line into fantasyland. The only thing a bit hard to fathom is how Sheriff Brady gathered what seems to be the country's best law enforcement staff in her somewhat remote area of Arizona (and one with pervasive budget problems, as documented many times throughout the book). If those characters are based on real life officers, that does it -- I'm moving to Cochise County when I retire!

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-04
A sword and sorcery team-up as Claw and Red Sonja join forces to try and deal with an evil sorcerer. A few problems to overcome though, given the newly pneumatic Sonja is now more likely than ever to attract Claw, which would cause sword-fighting.
So would his demonic hand taking him over and making him not so good.
Then there is the whole sorcerer may be the only one that can cure my curse, so damned if I do, damned if don't problem for Claw.
Beautiful and Trite! .......2007-07-06
I know you're thinking, "how is that even possible"?
Well first off let me say that the story is crap. I didn't know until after reading this book that Claw The Unconquerable was created back in the 70's. I thought Layman created this crap character all by himself and I was really gonna' give him hell over it.
You're off the hook on creating Claw, Layman.
But your story sucks. I don't expect just a whole lot from a character like Red Sonja (though Dynamite does a great ongoing series) but bearing that in mind, you can't just slap your readers across the face with cliche after cliche of "Bring her to me..." and "We fight for freedooooommmm!" and expect to get a positive reaction.
Layman really needs to focus on honing his craft, even for a B-grade character like Red Sonja.
HOWEVER...artist Andy Smith shows an incredible amount of promise. And maybe that was the deal all along---Layman agreed to pull a "Jeph Loeb" and let the dialogue take a seat waaaay in the back for the art (*see "Batman:Hush").
Every image of Smith's Red Sonja could double as a pin-up shot...though some of the other characters lack the same patience and care, and both of the main male characters look like Bizzaro Conans.
This is worth the buy only as a "sketchbook" of Andy Smith. I wouldn't bother reading it, though.
Remember the days when Sonja and Conan fought side by side?.......2007-06-17
The Wildstorm/Dynamite crossover with Claw and Red Sonja is the best crossover published with the fiery red heroine so far. The story and plot are pretty basic and isn't all that complicated but it is the conflict and resolution that both warriors experience that makes this book hard to put down. This is the best Sonja story since Roy Thomas was writing Conan due its realistic elements and grim atmosphere. There aren't any B-movie moments Sonja was prone to during the 80's when Frank Thorne was handling the art for her Marvel run. And you won't definitley won't find Sonja teaming up with Conan anytime in the near future due to conflicting rights issues between the companies. This is the next best thing!
Bloody good fun..........2007-03-08
Cheesecake (and beefcake) swords and sorcery. If you're a fan of the genre and your intellectual needs are modest, then this is a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Two compelling stories from award-winning authors.......2001-01-14
Zelazny's Nebula award winning "He Who Shapes" stuck in my mind for ages after I read it. The tale of Render the dream-shaper and the blind woman who desperately wants to learn his craft is impossible to put down.
Book Description
You don't need much in the way of experience or talent to transform a simple cake or cookie into a creative masterpiece. According to virtuoso pastry chef Gerhard Jenne, you just need a sense of humor and a steady hand. In this inspiring book (with vibrant photographs by Jonathan Lovekin) Gerhard transforms cake decorating from a tedious chore into a pursuit that is both fun and a real outlet for creative expression. He provides master recipes for five basic frostings, six cookie doughs, and six cake batters. Armed with these materials and Jenne's clearly illustrated instructions even novice bakers can stride into the kitchen and confidently take up the whisk. And what creations! Delectable cookies whose bright, bold designs make them even more tempting, cakes that brim with flavor ... and humor.

cookie book.......2007-01-04
Didn't like it much, wasn't what i expected. Not enough instructional pictures or interesting recipes. This is one i should've left in the pile...But maybe someone else will like it,i didn't.
This book makes a great gift........2006-07-25
This was a gift for my daughter. She loves it.
Disappointed..........2005-12-22
I found the cover deceiving. I thought the book would be filled with fun designs and better instruction for the home baker attempting to improve their presentation skills. I was also not happy with the icing recipes I tried. I do not recommend this book.
The same book.......2004-10-15
If you purchase this book, it is no need to purchase the one titled Decorating Cakes and Cookies by the same author. It is the same book just a different cover.
Disappointing.......2004-06-20
After reading all of the reviews on this book I was left confused by the extreme selection of critiques. After seeing the beautiful carrot cakes on the cover I decided this could hardly be the work of a "sloppy" decorator and went ahead and ordered. What can I say, the cover most definitely does not reflect the level of work inside, which can only be described as ..well.. sloppy! My 12 year old daughter had produced better looking cookies than these!! I can't say anything about the recipes because quite frankly none of them inspired me to try. The only thing that interested me was the explanation on how to make checkerboard or pinwheel cookies, but I didn't need to buy a book just for that. So, if you're undecided about whether to purchase this book as I was, my advice is save your money!

It is a good book, especially if you like to color.....but that is the only great thing about it. It lacks important detail, thus it is a coloring book only!
A Colouring Atlas of Dog Anatomy.......2007-09-22
I am extremely happy with the purchase of this particular book. As a student of Animal Bowen Therapy, I require information that is explanatory and easy to understand. This book is all of that and more. The pictures are simple and it is very easy to see the different aspects of the anatomy of a dog.
I received the book in wonderful timing and as always, found the transaction to be easy and non fuss. I will continue to shop for my books this way as it is 9 times out of 10 the cheapest and best way to do it.

Beautiful pictures with clear information. This book is required for the Comparative Anatomy class that I am taking. I would highly recomend this book for any vet tech students suffering from information overload. Great help in understanding the basics.
Dog Anatomy: A Coloring Atlas.......2007-07-16
This is an excellent resource for anyone who is studying dog anatomy for any reason. Illustrations are detailed and clearly labelled. I am using this as a reference for a Canine Myotherapy certification course.
Not detailed enough for Vet Students.......2006-11-11
I am a first year veterinary student, and I bought this book thinking it would be a good tool for reviewing my anatomy. Definitely not the case!!! The book is not detailed enough to satisfy the veterinary student (at least not at Tufts!). This is especially true for the nerves and bones. I would recommed getting the Evans and deLahunta "Guide to the Dissection of the Dog" instead, and coloring in their black and white illustrations.
Book Description

Book Description
From Native American face masks to German bread boards, from Tibetan prayer tables to Moroccan boats, the versatility of wood is astonishing. Here is the first worldwide survey, outlining the many types of wood and their uses, and the woodworking techniques employed around the globe.
Since prehistoric times, wood has been used for fire, shelter, tools, weapons, and all types of implements and containers. Some of the civilized world's most significant inventionsthe wheel, the printing press, and the first calculator, the abacuswere developed using wood. Nice coffee-table book.......2004-08-05
This might perhaps be regarded as a modern and 'light' version of the 'International Book of Wood' (1976). By content this is not half what the 'International Book of Wood' was, but times change. This new book is splendidly printed and should do a great job of infecting the reader with enthousiasm for wood. The pictures are almost exclusively full color photographs of a uniformly good quality. As long as the reader keeps in mind that this is a coffee-table book only and that the author does not exert himself in trying to get his details right, but limits himself to presenting a good story (just staying in the ballpark), this will be most enjoyable.

Useful book for ideas and patterns for bird carving........1999-02-18
Written by Roger Schroeder, this book is a summary of Ernest Muehlmatt's carving techniques that takes the reader through the steps of carving song birds using a power carver. Mr. Schroeder's writting style is difficult to get used to. He uses many un-necessary adjectives to describe the process of carving. Much of the first part of the book is devoted to reviewing Mr. Muehlmatt's personal opinions in bird carving. The reader gets a sense that Mr. Muehlmatt is quite egotistical. Nonetheless, the book does go over a few techniques useful to aquire for both carving and painting birds. Although geared toward people who use power carving tools, much of the information can be used for those who utilize knives and gouges. The second part of the book includes patterns of some common song birds and a pictorograph showing how each one was carved and painted. This turns out to be the most useful part of the book. Overall, readers will gain some knowledge of song bird carving and painting and a lot of insight into the thought process of Ernest Muehlmatt, albeit at the expense of sifting through the cumbersome writing sytle of Roger Schroeder.
Book Description
This handbook guides beginners and those who want to expand their repertoire through 15 Santa carvings based on prototypes from around the globe. Two step-by-step projects with close-up photography and detailed captions lead carvers through choosing tools and material, patterns, transferring designs, executing basic cuts, carving, and painting full-bodied Santas. Easy-to-follow patterns accompanied by photographs with views from different angles can be used to create an additional 13 Santas. Historical notes on the origins of the Santas and an overview of wood, tools, and safety are included.

Fun to carve.......2006-07-01
I am a beginner and I found this book fun. Each year I carve a different one for my daughters. They are just the right size for a shelf or to hang on the tree. I found it very easy to follow.
Best approach to Santa carving I have ever seen!.......2004-08-26
I have been carving Santas for some time now and have seen most books on the subject. I am really impressed with the unique technique employed in the book. This is great for beginners because it lays out a methodical approach to carving. Best of all, you don't need a bandsaw to make a cutout....just a block of wood and a few basic carving knives. This book is excellent because it uses plenty of photographs to teach--you could learn just by looking at the pictures. I enjoy this book because it made me realize how rewarding it is to start with a block of wood and a knife and end up with a great carving rather than cut out a rough shape with the bandsaw and then carve. This is the book to buy if you want to learn to carve or learn a more efficient carving method. Pay no attention to the few who rate it low. I can't fathom how they can rate it low......they need to realize that this is an art and it takes patience and focus to learn. They must have been carving with the wrong end of the knife.
A must for beginning and intermediate Santa carvers........2004-01-08
This is an excellent book and I am thoroughly enjoying each of the projects. Usually carving books don't give good painting details, but this one does. Also, most of the books I have used in the past tend to have all the projects look much the same. I'm amazed at the individuality of each of the 15 projects.
One thing that is unique in this carving book is how the patterns are drawn. You need to see the patterns like a draftsman design. But I found this perspective very helpful in developing the carvings.
For those who are absolute beginners in Santa carving, I'd suggest the Santa Carving book by Ron Ransom.
not for beginners.......2003-11-23
For a beginner who never carved before this book was difficult, drawing in the patterns, carving the eyes, nose ,etc. I don't think the writer had the beginner in mind.
Excellent Beginner and Intermediate fun.......2003-11-13
This book has details that are complete and thorough enough to accomplish a project even if you are a beginning carver. If you have experience, it provides good direction for advancing your skills. An excellent choice for Santa carving.

Great Ideas for Creative and Thrifty Furnishing of any Home.......2003-09-12
This is a WONDERFUL BOOK. Rick Ball with the help of illustrations by Paul Cox and editing by Mary Smith have created an excellent book on how to use mostly inexpensive materials to create functional furniture and fixtures. The book reminds us that buying expensive furniture is not the only way to furnish a home. The ideas from this book provide a wide variety of options for creating a home filled with clever pieces that show imagination and ingenuity.

Zeke and Abbie Forever.......2002-11-17
Savage Destiny contains a great deal of factual information on the spirituality of the Cheyenne throughout the book. The storyline of Zeke and Abbie is page turning. The plot moves continually. Zeke and Abbie's love triumph over tragedy after tragedy, death and near death. A love blessed by the Spirits brings you into realms of the supernatural. I am awed when a supernatural need pushes Abbie into looking at the Sacred Arrows. She is punished but a small sacrifice to finally understand that God by any name is God. She understands the Spiritually of the Cheyenne blended into her own faith. Abbie sees the good and evil in men regardless of skin color or faith.
The only parts I did not like were the superficial long explanations of what drove insignificant characters in the story. I just didn't read it them because it really wasn't a necessary part of the story.
Part 2 of the continuing saga of Zeke and Abbey.......2001-03-29
I wanted the book to start right off about Zeke and Abbie but it didn't after I got into it could not put down. The lost of Abbie baby Danicing Moon was a evil person all she did was for the spite of it all. I can't wait till I get book 3 and 4 which I have ordered. At times I wish all was in one book for they are hard to find at times.
it was great.......1999-06-26
It was wonderful i could feel their sorrow when Abby lost her first baby. Rosanne is a great writer.

Book Description
"Arresting . . . The man really can write." The New York Times Book Review.
Winner of the Edgar Award.
With the soul of a street kid, reluctant ties to the mob, and the mind of an ivy-league sharpie, Tony Cassella is more than a private investigator. He's a man with a mission -- to stay true to himself, the people he loves, and a personal code he can't always live up to.
When an old-line lawyer threatens to spill his guts to the SEC about his firm's dirty deals, Tony is hired by the top-drawer Wall Street firm to bug the secret testimony. But when the high-priced canary is found dead in a parking lot, Tony goes hunting for bigger game. But can he find the fat cat who killed the canary before he becomes the next birdie on the menu himself?
Customer Reviews:
This book is absolutely great. Read it, read it, read it........1999-06-09
I have read all (three) of Mr. Beinhart's Tony Cassella books and they are each fabulous. I waited and waited for him to write something else, and then I interpolated (from American Hero) that he was unable to support himself by writing the Tony Cassella series. This is a crime in itself. I would really like Mr. Beinhart to write more of this series. If you are reading this, Mr. Beinhart, please know that I love reading what you write and recommended your books to LOTS of people. I kept pestering the Tattered Cover here in Denver to get with it and stock you. The real point of this review is to tell you how great I think your books are. Anyway, I did MY best to make you a national sensation. Sorry it didn't work better.

Book Description
Courageous. Uplifting. Triumphant. The story of Kweisi Mfume is a classic American saga. Uprooted from the rural tranquillity of Turners Station and thrust upon the gritty streets of west Baltimore, the child born Frizzell Gray seemed fated to become another statistic of Black urban pathology. In a household shattered by domestic violence and emotional strife, Frizzell had only the strong arms of his loving mother to protect him and his three younger sisters. But when he was sixteen years old, his cancer-stricken mother died in his arms, and his world was shattered. To survive, he turned to the streets. He dropped out of school, worked odd jobs, and hustled for money. Torn apart by the rough code of street gangs and the Vietnam war that sent his best friends home in body bags, Frizzell had fathered five children out of wedlock by the time he was twenty-two.
But fate stepped in. In a life-altering moment of revelation, Frizzell saw where he was headed and realized that everything about the old Frizzell Gray would have to die. As he embarked on the journey to transform himself, he affirmed his spiritual rebirth and took the name Kweisi Mfume, Ghanian for "Conquering Son of Kings." Today, a quarter-century later, Kweisi Mfume is among the most respected and influential leaders in the United States.
Mfume's journey into the nations power elite was as rocky as it was colorful: from night GED courses to college student activism to militant radio disc jockey, where his first philosophical battles were fought against James Brown, the "Godfather of Soul." Mfume's emergence as a political figure broke every rule--he parlayed his burgeoning fame as a talk-radio provocateur to win a seat as a maverick member of the Baltimore City Council. He then took on the local political machine to represent a Congressional district that encompasses both the poorest of the poor and the richest of the rich.
Once he arrived in Washington, Mfume proved to be a bold political strategist, facing off against Presidents Reagan, Bush, and Clinton on such issues as aid to the Nicaraguan contras, the Civil Rights Bill, Lani Guinier's embattled nomination for Attorney General, and sending U.S. armed forces into Haiti. As Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, he led the CBC through a period of unprecedented dynamism. And in international affairs, Mfume's relentless campaign to end apartheid has earned him the respect and friendship of Nelson Mandela.
Far from a kiss-and-tell political memoir, No Free Ride illuminates the forces that helped shape a new wave of Black leaders left to carry the torch for Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. Mfume moves beyond the divisive rhetoric of white fear and Black anger generated by the assault on affirmative action, the O.J. verdict, and the Million Man March. He exposes the myth of arrogant, self-righteous values and affirms the real value of values. And while Mfume asserts that " the government can't and won't solve every one of our problems," he doesn't hesitate to indict those who collude in the soul murder of America's poor and forgotten.
In this candid and insightful memoir, Mfume reminds us that everything has a price, and that as citizens of a democracy, none of us can expect a free ride. His visionary blueprint for all Americans, white and Black, can guide us as we face the challenge of fashioning a society in which our two nations can at last become one.

Everyone can make a difference.......2003-01-29
This was a very interesting book. It was a quick read and it was a story told with a considerable degree of brevity. I have had the opportunity to meet the author and think that he could do more in his interactions with members of his organization than what I have been successful in reaching him.
Very Inspirational!.......2000-04-30
I enjoyed this book greatly. It has inspired me to reach my goals. I have learned from reading this book that anyone can make it if they try hard enough. I do not understand the previous reviewers and there negative reviews but I found this book to be very uplifting.
Good Story!!.......1999-05-07
This was an inspirational book for me. It teaches that I can get off my butt and make it in America.
This is a five star story with four stars of events omitted.......1999-02-09
This story could and should be more inspiring. There are people and events that contributed to his life saving and/or transformation...from the path of destruction to enlightenment to civility to purpose to personal achievement. There's civil service but little mention of community service and community servants (i.e. Allen "Dickie" Burke, Walter Lively, etc.) including places like the Community College of Baltimore, Operation Champ, Teen Centers, The African Heritage Shop, etc. Acknowledging and developing the people and events related to these places would make this story more sensitive, human, and inspiring. I'm sure there were lessons learned -both from good and bad experiences- from the previously mentioned people and places that built the bridge from the mean streets to mainstream. Their impact is vital. This story should conclude with accounts of how often he has crossed the bridge back to the meanstreets to bring someone across or helped someone stalled on the bridge to reach the other side. Their plights together would give this story additional character and broader appeal.
