Book Description
There are few authors who can weave nail-biting thrills, edge-of-your-seat drama, and romantic suspense as masterfully as Julie Garwood. Now she ratchets up the tension with Murder List, in which evil is on the hunt– and proves to be methodically organized and chillingly successful.
When Chicago detective Alec Buchanan is offered a prime position with the FBI, it is the perfect opportunity to leave the Windy City and follow in his brothers’ footsteps to the top echelons of law enforcement. But first he must complete one last assignment (and one that he is not too happy about): acting as a glorified bodyguard to hotel heiress Regan Hamilton Madison. The gorgeous exec has become entangled in some potentially deadly business. Someone has e-mailed her a graphic crime-scene photo–and the victim is no stranger.
Regan suspects that the trouble started when she agreed to help a journalist friend expose a shady self-help guru who preys on lonely, vulnerable women. In fact, the smooth-as-an-oil-slick Dr. Lawrence Shields may be responsible for the death of one of his devotees, which was ruled a suicide. Hoping to find some damning evidence, Regan attends a Shields seminar.
At the gathering, the doctor persuades his guests to partake in an innocent little “cleansing” exercise. He asks them to make a list of the people who have hurt or deceived them over the years, posing the question: Would your world be a better place if these people ceased to exist? Treating the exercise as a game, Regan plays along. After ten minutes, Shields instructs the participants to bring their sheets of paper to the fireplace and throw them into the flames. But Regan misses this part of the program when she exits the room to take a call–and barely escapes a menacing individual in the parking lot.
The experience is all but forgotten–until the first person on Regan’s list turns up dead. Shock turns to horror when other bodies from the list start to surface, as a harrowing tango of desire and death is set into motion. Now brutal murders seem to stalk her every move–and a growing attraction to Alec may compromise her safety, while stirring up tender emotions she thought she could no longer feel. Yet as the danger intensifies and a serial killer circles ever closer, Regan must discover who has turned her private revenge fantasies into grisly reality.

Underwhelmed.......2007-09-17
This is my first Julie Garwood book and it may be my last. Regan Madison, the heroine, spends way too much time crying, her brothers sound like jerks, and her girlfriends sound insipid. Alec Buchanan, the hero, comes across as a man who should quickly tire of Regan Madison, a poor little rich girl who can't stand on her own two feet. The redeeming part of the story is a very steamy love scene between Regan and Alec.
For a compelling contemporary romance try Flashback: A Low Country Novel
Please, stop writing murder mysteries!!!.......2007-08-11
Julie Garwood has a gift for writing the most amazing historical romances - I say gift because when it comes to writing one of these romances there are very few that come close to how good she is. Alas, in my opinion when it comes to writing murder mysteries she is one of the worse examples I have ever come across. Please, stop writing thse utter dreadful books. This book was just awful, please, don't buy it, save your money, there are authors out there that do a far better murder mystery.
Who cares about the murderer, Alec Buchanan is hot!.......2007-08-08
Yum. Another Buchanan hero! Say no more. Well, we'll whet your appetite just a bit... Here's the thing. Slightly rumpled, laid back Chicago detective Alec Buchanan is totally fed up with his job and his boss, and has just been accepted for the FBI. As `punishment' for the remainder of his time on the force, he's relegated to babysitting duties when heiress Regan Madison receives an emailed murder photo. Ghastly! Things escalate when Regan and two friends attend a shonky seminar run by self-help guru Dr. Lawrence Shields, hoping to expose him for an opportunistic shyster. In a self-help-obsessed inner healing (idiot) furore, the doctor advises his attendees to write their own personal murder list: Would your world be a better place if these people ceased to exist? Tongue in cheek, Regan does. Next thing, the people on her `murder list' start turning up, dead! The murderer - horrific as it may sound - appears to be trying to please (and/or woo?) Regan! What a nightmare. It freaks Regan out and snaps Alec into alert, macho, Alpha mode. It's a roller coaster of passion and suspense to the nail-biting, heart-pounding finale, when the murder list narrows to one last, chilling name. Start salivating girls, because when the action heats up, so do Alec and Regan. Something Julie Garwood does so well!
Very uneven.......2007-08-01
I just finished Murder List today and must say I wasn't overly impressed.
The main characters in the book, Regan Madison, her brothers and 2 female friends Sophie and Cordie as well as the handsome (of course!) detective Alec Buchanan are all very simply drawn characters. So much so that I found myself more than once sighing and wishing there were more complexity. Regan is portrayed as stunningly beautiful (of course!) and so naive that it made me cringe every 5 pages or so... Another thing: Her cell phone gets lost and she doesn't even notice it until a week later and then only because the evil guy sends her an email (Hello?? Which century are we living in???). Pretty bad writing...
There is nothing very interesting about the characters or the story line. It is as if Miss Garwood couldn't decide whether to write a thriller or a romance novel. The only 20 pages that are halfway believable (with a few bumps) are the ones where Alec and Regan finally get together for their first night. So from where I sit, Miss Garwood is quite good at writing sexy romance stuff but should leave the thriller writing to other people...
Truly a ladies book .......2007-07-22
To me this was a good read . It has mystery and romance .
Someone is out to kill Regan , she writes a "Murder List " and people on list start dying . Regan is then protected by private security as well as police security . The police security is with her alot and has to protect her in more ways then one but then he ..... Sorry you got to read this book to find out the rest .

Description Back Cover........2005-08-16
Mars the skull of a planet picked clean by the wind of time. North. Beyond the desert of Meroe, past the ancient cliffs of the dust-locked continents, past the dry warfs of a city thay was old when Earth was new, the caravan crept into the unmapped waste called Umbra. It was into this shadowed land that the lost nation of the People had ridden -- and vanished -- in a time beyond memory. It was here that the outworlder Ryker followed the golden-eyed Valarda and found the Child-of-Stars.

Not my definition of greatest.......2001-02-27
The TARDIS is traversing the vortex when its defences are penetrated by an advertising satellite. Inviting whoever receives is to visit the Psychic Circus, they decide to do so. But they aren't the only ones - a wide number of odd characters are on their way. But the Psychic Circus has a dark secret, one from which some of the circus performers are keen to escape...
One of the stories of the Seventh Doctor normally labelled "oddball", this story takes what might otherwise be a normal one and gives it an odd spin. Part of this odd spin are the characters who are, depending on your views, either archetypal or clichéd.
For my money, the story is just that much too shallow to be enjoyable.
The Circus in on!.......1998-04-19
The Greatest Show in the Galaxy
The Doctor and Ace discover a circus which is not all it seems. Can they help the innocents trapped by the deadly robotic clowns escape from a fatal trip to the circus ring? What is the secret of the family of three who are the only audience?
Book Description
Indian cookery is among the world’s most distinctive and enticing cuisines, one whose influence can be discerned in culinary traditions around the globe. In this groundbreaking book, bestselling author Madhur Jaffrey presents more than 100 of the best curries, many recorded for the very first time, plus all the savory accompaniments to serve with them.
In this fascinating volume, Madhur traces the origins of curry, explaining how Indian immigrants brought ingredients and techniques to new lands, creating an ever-growing cornucopia of delicious hybrids. To illustrate the evolution of curry, and its close relative, the kebab, she not only includes the finest recipes from India—like Hyderabadi Ground Lamb with Orange and Dry Masala Fish—but a wide variety of exotic curries from all over the world. Enticing recipes include Sumatran Lamb Curry from Indonesia, Red Beef Curry from Sri Lanka, Burmese Chicken-Coconut Soup from Myanmar, Lobster in Yellow Curry Sauce from Thailand, Vietnamese Pork with Lemongrass, Lamb Shanks Braised in a Yogurt Sauce from Pakistan, and even a beef curry from Japan, where, as in the United Kingdom, curry is one of the most popular meals, even among schoolchildren. To complement the curries, there are soups, noodles, breads, chutneys, beans, vegetables, and, best of all, twenty recipes for easy and deliciously spiced kebabs.
Beautifully illustrated and filled with the kind of comprehensive insight into the art of curry that only Madhur Jaffrey could provide,
From Curries to Kebabs makes fascinating reading for cooks everywhere and will be an outstanding addition to any curry lover’s library.
Customer Reviews:
Lovely book to have for curry-lovers.......2007-02-28
I got this book from the Public library yesterday. And I've been hooked since. This is the kind of book, that you'd like to read even if you are not too keen on trying the recipes (not that I'm discouraging anyone from trying them :)). I absolutely love the introduction - Madhur Jaffrey traces the history of the influence of the Indian cuisine world-over. I wish she'd write an entire book on the history of Indian cuisine and its influences. And every recipe is preceded by a little bit of history or an anecdote or its source, which is how I like cookbooks to be rather than a long compilation of only recipes. The pictures in the introduction are evocative of the times past.
Coming to the actual recipes - the ones that I'm familiar with look authentic and the others look interesting enough to make me want to try them. I tried one of the vegetarian dishes last night and it was lovely.
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy........2007-02-08
When buying a cookbook one should remember here that the purpose is actually COOKING. Photography isn't essential and in most cases photographs of the finished product are worse than useless, they give no help in creating the dish and give a false ideal impossible to live up to ("Oh no I dont have the right shade of hand glazed terra cotta plates! Oh god its OVERCAST!") The book is superficially well designed, the cover is a pretty shade of pink the Indian theme is consistent throughout. The problem comes when you actually try cooking these recipes. Indian recipes are very complex, often featuring many different stages per dish. Jaffrey doesnt take this into account at all. The instructions are simply poured into one dense column of type. If you're looking for instructions quickly (and you will be: most of the recipes call for only seconds of browning) you will be hard pressed to wade through a page of single spaced type with illogical indentations. I often find myself re-typing recipes on my laptop to get a handle on the different sections.
Moreover, some the recipes arent even complete. An exaple is a Korma, which instructs frying potatos and never implies any incorporation into the final dish at all! That is unforgivable. The book also suggests some very very out of the way spices which many of customers would be unable to easily buy, and makes no suggestion on replacement or substitution, even in the most simple and obvious ways. For example the recipe suggests Cardamom pods in one recipe and seeds in another, without giving the ratio of seeds to pods, for someone who can't find such things.
Do not buy this book.
BEST Indian Cookbook out there!.......2006-06-08
I can't count the number of times people have asked, "where did you get the recipe or thought to put those ingredients together?" And my little secret that I always share is this book. It is absolutely amazing what a stock set of the same spices can create for you and that you can tell someone that the eggplant and fish is actually a Kenyan recipe from this book that follows the spice trail from east Asia to the African continent! I couldn't ask for more in a cookbook!
Accurate, Authentic, Delicious.......2006-06-06
Though I own many Indian cookbooks, and have enjoyed cooking Indian food for forty years, I have rarely found a book that so well combines beauty, imagination, an almost anthropological (or at least ethnogastronomical) attention to detail, and wonderful tastes. Madhur Jaffrey is the doyenne of Indian and indeed Asian and vegetarian cook book authors. Her recipes work well in an American kitchen, offer inspiration to the adventuresome cook, and are truly useful. Whether you love to grill outdoors, or never want to go near charcoal, the kebabs are unctuous and make your tongue want to scream in delight. Buy this book immediately, and enjoy an exquisite rainbow of Indian inspired recipes from throughtout the world.
Good style but recipes don't always work.......2006-03-21
I borrowed this book from a public library before purchasing it. What I liked about the book was the art work included, the narration style, the stories about the source of the recipes, the diversity of the recipes. I have tried a few of the recipes from this book, I liked some of them but would not care to make the others a second time. I also liked that the author suggested locally available ingredients as substitutions. All in all, I did like the book enough to buy it after I had looked through it.
Book Description
This all-new book about the popular canine giant is the first in-depth work on the breed for Howell Book House since 1981. It is intended as a complete reference on the breed for every Dane owner from the reader with a first puppy to the serious breeder with a kennel full of champions. Completely authoritative, it also sparkles with the author's good humor and her obvious love of the bree—a must for the Dane fancier's library.
Customer Reviews:
Realistic.......2007-07-16
I bought this book because I was considering getting a Great Dane. I wanted to study up on the breed before committing to having one. It was good because it did bring up both good and bad things about the breed. Danes are not for everyone. However, I wish it would have had more info on everyday living with a Dane and not so much on breeding. And yes, I did get a Dane.
If your looking for a dane or own a dane...........2000-10-15
BUY THIS BOOK! I had purchased and read over a dozen books in preparation for bringing my puppy home, and this by far is the best.
The section on choosing a breeder is wonderful, and has some very important information you need to know before you buy a Dane from someone.
Bottom line, get it, read it, keep it for reference.
Great Starter Information and Fun to Read.......2000-02-17
I loved this book. I learned enough in the care section to save at least one trip to the vet (normal stuff that doesn't seem so - callouses for big dogs). This book was fun to read, in addition to being so informative. Great for better understanding my Great Dane.
Great Dane Help.......2000-02-05
This was a very informative and helpful book. The Author provides keen insight into the care, responsibilities and phsyche of the Apollo of dogs.
Perfect for the New Dane Owner.......1999-12-26
This book answered all my questions about temperment, exercise and medical issues. I also really appreciated the balanced view - all the up and down side of owning a Great Dane from puppy to old age and death. Thanks to Jill for providing excellant information - I'm sure our new Dane will apprecitate it when he/she arrives!

Gender As An Act.......2000-04-22
Painter Deborah Kass (b. 1952) recycles the style and appearance of Andy Warhol's silk-screened portraits, creating a series of homages to strong women she admires like Barbara Streisand and Gertrude Stein. Art historian Linda Nochlin, in an essay in Deborah Kass: Warhol Project, writes, "Gender is an act, Kass seems to be saying, but it is an act with consequences. For the Jewish lesbian artist who wants to make something of her complex identity, the consequences are particularly interesting." Five essays position and discuss Kass's art and take on the issue of whether or not there is a lesbian aesthetic. I loved Kass's use of irony and humor, and her appropriation of Warhol's signature styles to project a different slant on content.

Book Description
The Spanish edition of the #1 New York Times bestseller, TIS is the story of Frank's American journey from impoverished immigrant with rotten teeth, infected eyes, and no formal education to brilliant raconteur and schoolteacher. Saved first by a straying priest, then by the Democratic party, then by the United States Army, then by New York University-- which admitted him on a trial basis, though he had no high school diploma-- Frank had the same vulnerable but invincible spirit at nineteen that he had at eight, and still has today. And TIS is a tale of survival as vivid, harrowing, and often hilarious as ANGELA'S ASHES. Yet again, it is through the power of storytelling that Frank finds a life for himself. TIS blesses readers with another chapter of McCourt's story, but as it closes, they will want still more.

Altamente recomendado.......2006-12-20
