This book was okay.......2007-03-27
This book was okay, but there were a couple of things I didn't like. There were a couple of questions that the writer didn't answer, like what happened to Travis and Priscilla. Those are some loose ends that were not tied up. I did like the ending. I would think this book is for kids ages eight and up. There are some things that are hard to understand, and there are no pictures. I liked that there was a map in the front that tells where everything in the story is located. I would recommend this book for people that like chapter books and for people that want to learn about Florida.
Bad Book.......2006-04-04
Never read this book. It is boring. The author repeats everything over and over again.
Good Enough.......2005-11-10
This Everglades story is an interesting ecological mystery, but it's a bit too repetitive. (By now if you've read all my reviews you'll know it's one of my pet peeves.) Searching for a missing alligator the entire story is a bit too much, hm? Well, overall it's a good ecological mystery, but only if you're bored should you make the drastic decision to read it.
The Missing Gator of Gumbo Limbo.......2004-03-28
I have just finish reading a book call The Missing Gator of Gumbo Limbo. It's about a family who don't have a house yet, because they don't have enough money to build a house. The father was in another country, doing business around the world. He doesn't even know what's happening to his family. Many people say that they don't have house. Well they are, but the mother says that they were on a vacation. She always said that every time because she doesn't want people to know it. So now, their daughter named Liza K., is an adventures girl. She knows all the places in the forest. She even has an alligator friend. Now, she and her friends must save the forest from the people who want to destroy, but then, her alligator friend lost. Now, she's on an adventure to find the alligator and stop the destruction of the forest.
I think this book is good because it tells everybody how important the forest is to us. If we don't have a forest, then how can we live? How can we stay a life without oxygen? Where the oxygen come from? Oh well I think you know where it is. So this book, did, teach us something.
I recommended this book who loves to safe this world.
The Missing 'Gator of Gumbo Limbo.......2003-03-15
My story was about a missing gator. Travis is a gator hunter who is trying to shoot the gator. The gator is too big for the protection law. All the characters except Travis are trying to protect him. The main characters are Dujen, Travis, Liza K., and James James. Because he is a smart young man, James James is my favorite character. In my own life I try to be good and kind to others. James James is like this, he is always considerate and thoughtful.
I liked my book. I don't have a single favorite part; My least favorite part is the authors choice of where the characters lived at the end of book. My favorite part was that Travis didn't find Dujen.
I would recomend this book to a person who likes mysteries.
Book Description
Alex Rutledge, freelance and part-time Key West crime scene photographer, awakes to his first day off in months. Late August, the off-season, the dog days. Everything's okay until his phone rings. His old navy buddy, Zack Cahill, now a successful Chicago banker, is in town and, at 8:00 a.m., drunk in Sloppy Joe's. Zack demands that Rutledge join him for a celebratory beer. When Alex arrives at the bar, eight minutes later, Cahill is gone. The day continues downhill. A high-noon murder in the tourist district, the ransacked apartment of a local bartender, and the chance encounter of Abby Womack, Cahill's ex-mistress, combine to convince Alex that Zach Cahill's disappearance may be linked to all of these events. An overnight fire and a drive-by shooting the next morning amplify the strangeness and danger. By calling in favors from a crew of Key West characters, stepping aside of law enforcement, and traveling to New Orleans in an attempt to help his friend, Rutledge will fall deep into a mysterious range war, a fight for the profits from a twenty-year-old smuggling deal.

waste of time.......2005-10-02
The aurhor obviously thinks he is a real neat guy as I am sure he is the real cool hero(?)The plot was mixed up with characters jumping in and out of it and much confusing action. The wild ending was quite fitting as it matched the jumbled mess of the rest of the book. Don't waste your money or time on this guy's books-I assume the rest of them are just as stupid.
what tangled webs we weave.......2005-01-12
Enoyable, but needlessly complicated with an excess of characters. As I was reading the final two chapters, my attention began to drift, simply because the plot was so convuluted that it defied my ability to keep up with the who's who list.
Dizzying, entertaining, yet obsessed with food.......2002-12-26
Gumbo Limbo by Tom Corcoran is overall an entertaining romp ofsome wild, almost cliche, detective fiction. Though the setting is in itself like a virtual vacation, Corcoran's first person narrative leaves much to be desired. Even when viewed as told by the main character, forensic photographer Alex Rutledge, I grew horrifically tired of the descriptions of his eating and drinking habits.
Another "Jimmy Buffettism" of Corcoran's is his obsession with almost proving that he's really a true Key Wester. His descriptions of his travels on the island (like "I turned left at Big Bob's eatery at the corner of St. Juicy and Elm") were distracting. Yes, let the reader know you have some expertise, but let's forgo the travelogue and advance the story. Perhaps Tom should just include a map in the next submission.
But yes, overall, I enjoyed it. Even in it's annoying moments it had some charm. Picture this as a literary version of late night listening to a Buffett album: a guilty pleasure that's easy to enjoy, but will probably leave you wanting more meaty substance.
An odd approach to Key West.......2002-01-02
Just a word about the characters and setting. It is as if gay and lesbian people did not live in Key West. There are no gay characters and no mention of gay residents. Odd for a place so well known for their presence. It's as if the writer denies their existence.
I haven't read his other books--perhaps there are gay characters in them, but I found their lack of presence in this book rather disconcerting.
Everybody wants to get into the act.......2000-12-06
The title to this review is double edged. It refers to the myriad of characters and escapades that Tom Corcoran has cooked up for his character, crime photographer, Alex Rutledge and the fact that there are so many writers who want to be Carl Hiassan. Corcoran is the Key West version and while I found the story generally entertaining, it also got confusing at times as the plot twisted here and there, sometimes without apparent purpose. He does get into the mood and sprit of the Keys and there is some Buffet-like wisdom dispenced on occaision, but by the time that the reason why people are dying, getting beaten or disappearing becomes evident, you kind of wonder if it had to be that complicated. I liked the effort and should probably read his first book which seems to have general approval. Another writer about Florida who probably helps explain, without intending to, why they have so much trouble voting correctly down there.

Quite good........2007-04-25
This book is a good time; it has excellent characterization, an intriguing plot, good pacing and action, and manages to be thought-provoking in spite of not taking itself overly seriously. The only thing keeping it from five stars is that it gets a bit silly at times, but not so much as to be a real distraction. Definitely recommended.
A review of 'Mudd in your Eye'.......2006-05-21
This had a TOS feel. The author really nailed down the character of Harry Mudd. The novel was a strange trip indeed. Ol' Harry has taken advantage of an alien race while making them feel he is working for them. Capt. Kirk & his crew are called in to monitor events of a 'Peace treaty' on a planet that wishes to join the Federation. They soon discover the whole thing was orchestrated by Harry Mudd.
Con: The story seems to borrow bits of ideas from familier TOS episodes, as the alien world they are on is run by a strange system of computers, they have a culture that is at war with another planet, abeit eccentric and bogged down in custom, and one of the Enterprise chars is newly married.
Pro: The book takes you on a few twists and turns, this story may have borrowed some ideas, but it is it's own mix. If you hang in there, all is fully explained. Author does a good job nailing down Mudd, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. The ending is in the perfect spirit of Harry Mudd, very fitting.
No starship battles, plaques, viruses, time travel or space monsters, this story is a 'swindle' typical of the man himself. If you are amused at those TOS episodes with Harry Mudd, then this book is for you.
ST: TOS - Mudd in Your Eye.......2002-06-17
ST: TOS - Mudd in Your EYE written by Jerry Oltion is a humorous story and it will keep you laughing through out the story.
A well written story that keeps your intrest, we get one of Capt. James T. Kirk's antagonists, Harcourt Fenton Mudd. The antipathical Mudd is thought to be the person that has brought peace to the planets of Pastor and Distrel who have been fighting an ongoing war for twelve hundred years.
Now, the Federation wants to find out if this war is over and sends the crew of the Enterprise to investigate. When Kirk begins to investigate he finds Mudd... now Kirk becomes suspicious and doubts that Mudd is telling the truth. Oh the humor... as Kirk et. al. get involved with Mudd and the inhabitants of these two planets.
You see, this interplanetary war is over who is going to eat the white half of a piece of fruit. Crazy, I know, but the author's imagination is running wild as people die, resurect, die, and resurect over and over just to be closer to their heaven. All along the antics of Mudd and the author has written Mudd's wife (Stella) into this story get more and more whimsical.
This is a well told light-hearted story with the clownish Mudd working his extravagace to the max by saying that he's a changed man. If you want a laugh... and like TREK... then read this story you will chuckle. I reread this story as I pulled it off the shelf of long ago read books and it was as funny now as it was then.
Death, but not really.......2001-07-05
Harry Mudd returns! And what a way to return. Stella, his wife, also shows up, which is a big plus. The beginning catches your interest immediately - a society warring over a fruit?? I love the story - he's dead, Jim, wait, no he's not, wait, yes he is...you'll have to read it to find out! I wonder how crazy you have to be to think up a plot this twisted *jk*! It's just hilarious!
no, no, no ..........1999-07-20
The novel starts out promisingly enough, with Kirk and crew discovering that two planets have ended 12,000 years of war (over which side gets to eat the white half of a fruit!), then discovering that the man responsible for ending the piece is no less (or no more, as it were) than Harcourt Fenton Mudd.
Then the war starts up again, and the book falls apart.
The kitchen sink apparently wasn't enough for this author -- he had to throw in the whole subdivision. The plot quickly becomes a humorless mess, with most of the Enterprise crew dying and being resurrected in bath houses (my best guess is that the two planets are monitored by a supercomputer that controls the resurrections through a systemwide transporter system -- and therefore perpetuates the war -- in order to teach people to cherish life) and character consistency thrown to the solar winds. We even have Spock using phrases like "That's the beauty of it" and "I am willing to bet" -- when's the last time the author even watched the show??
A good idea executed badly. Even Harry Mudd deserves better than this.

To be continued . . ........2002-06-09
I have only one question: what happens next????
This book was great!!! What I loved most were the characters. The furson aspect adds an interesting twist to most sci-fi stories one reads nowadays. But more importantly, these are characters you can relate to. For certain, you will be able to see a little of yourself in one or more of the characters. Each character is unique and well-developed such that by the end of the novel you feel as though you are part of the Mainframe family. Cliche, but true.
I'll avoid the summary of the novel..., but know that there is an entire world within this novel that you will get [pulled] into. Characters and places alike are described with a detail that lets you feel their presence as well as see them in your mind's eye.
This book was a definite page turner. I look forward to seeing more of Simba Wiltz's work soon. The only problem with it is that I'm going to have to wait for the next one. :P
A Bold First Novel.......2002-04-01
There is quite a bit of bad science fiction on the market today. Written at the highest level, this genre offers more interesting content than any other. However the novelists who dwell in this realm often fail to ground their imagination in the truths of human nature and let the story escape them, or they fail to use their imaginations at all, churning out overworked stories, wrought with clichés. In his first novel, Simba Wiltz manages to avoid both of these pitfalls and produces a fun adventure that is highly worth reading.
Mainframe - Beginnings opens in the world of Pellcia where the ruling body, the InterTerri Council, is in trouble. Negotiations with the terrorist Naiko Powers have gone sour, and fear is the constant state of being. While the vastly ill-prepared ITC military primes to combat the threat, a secret team, called Mainframe, trains to take on the forces of evil itself, and the Naiko Powers move forward with their own agenda at an alarming pace.
While this scenario is reminiscent of so many stories in science fiction, Wiltz manages to create a tale that is crisp with originality. Heroes, villains, and bystanders alike are neither human nor alien, instead taking a range of animal forms. While each character's temperament often seems to mimic the personality of its physical appearance, position on the food chain does not govern morality or position in society. A ram is head of the ITC military; one lion commands Mainframe, and another is his counterpart in the Naiko Powers; and the InterTerri Council is made up of everything from squirrels to panthers. Instead of creating an aura of silliness, putting the characters in these anthromorphic bodies adds a dimension to the story that is part of its appeal.
Mainframe - Beginnings is full of Wiltz's creative flourishes. Unlike many who write this sort of tale, he is unwilling to put a bulletproof vest on his protagonists, and their ability to die keeps the story sharp and the pace rapid. An air of mystery permeates itself throughout the work. Uncertainty swirls around Mane, the enigmatic leader of Mainframe, and his nemesis in the Naiko Powers is even more shadowy. The origins of the team itself are undefined, as the government has no clue of its existence, but its budget seems unlimited. Throughout the work, these secrets, along with the other questions Wiltz creates, add spice that keeps the reader hungry.
Wilt's novel is not without its imperfections. In points, the story drags, the terminology takes some getting used to, and the dialogue can be a bit slanted. However, these are common symptoms of first novels, and the bigger story is how infrequently these low points occur. Mainframe - Beginnings deserves recognition for its achievement. Wiltz's book fits in the tradition of creature adventure, like that of Brian Jacque's Redwall series, but stands out because of its complexity. This is not a book written for a child. Perhaps Mainframe is not quite as fluid as Jacque's fiction, but the first novel smacks with believable seriousness. Simba Wiltz is a damn good storyteller, and I look forward to his next installment.
Another point of veiw........2002-03-22
Well having a love for writing stories myself I thought the book was well planned and leaves a nice ending to keep you guessing. I love the Furrson touch to the book since most human based books get to be a little old, seeing the same types of characters come up again and again. This book adds change to a new threat on a world for all readers to enjoy.
I loved the detail Simba added so that you know where you are, what the characters are looking at, or what the characters themselves look like and are doing.
All in all, a great book that most fantasy readers will enjoy, more then the ones who like looking at pictures more then what they read.
Waste of four and half hours.......2002-03-20
What's with these anthromorphic beings? What we need are not cat people but dog people. That is what was wrong with planet Pellicia, they needed dog people to help fight there way out.
As I was reading the novel I always thought it was going to get better, but it just slowed down. It was as if the cast of Cats were captured and placed on the set of Battlefield Earth.
The ways in which Simba described the characters was disturbing; I could care less for the detailed descriptions. The story needed more developement.
There were good visual effects on the cover and on the back cover.
In all the book was excruciatingly long and borring.

Sauces .......2007-01-20
This is a well written book with execllent photography, but not what one would consider buying to learn how to make the basic and newer sauces.
It's actually just another great cook book.
Not a good addition to the WS Collection unless you collect them!.......2007-01-11
I honestly was surprised by this book. I own a lot of the other Williams-Sonoma Collection books and this one seems rather futile. I haven't used it once actually. I browsed through and realized that it doesn't have many sauce recipes, not all ones you'd be thinking of either (like some basic ones). I was a bit disappointed in the content. Most Williams-Sonoma cookbooks have sauce recipes that go with the featured recipe so don't bother buying this special volume unless you want the whole collection.
Good Recipes.......2005-10-23
I like this series from WS because it is a great mix of recipes and reference. Sauce is more recipe than reference and technique. As the previous reviewer noted, these are not just recipes for sauce, but the for the foods that should accompany them as well. I prefer How to Make Sauces & Gravies from the Cooks Illustrated Library to this book.
Another Great Cookbook From Williams Sonoma.......2005-02-06
I have a friend who is a professional chef, and a good one. One night we were discussing steaks, and he said that anyone can "do" a steak, but it is the exceptional cook who knows how to make the meal memorable with the right sauce. I believed him then and do so now: the right sauce makes a good meal memorable. However, my early explorations led me to recipes that were complex and time consuming, and thus frustrating
Then I came upon this little gem while searching the amazon.com roster. The title is a bit misleading, because the book provides suggested entrees (and desserts) for each sauce recipe. For example, the recipe for duxelles sauce has it accompanying veal chops, and the recipe for carmel sauce accompanies the recipe for carmel swirl ice cream.
Nontheless, the sauce recipes are clearly written and easy to prepare. The results so far have been exceptional.
So, if you want to kick your cooking up a notch, try this book. No disappointments so far.
Book Description
Since its initial publication, Beyond Basic Dog Training has achieved well deserved recognition as an innovative, unique guide to obedience instruction. Obedience authority Diane Bauman's proven training philosophy asserts that the time has come to go beyond training dogs and start teaching them to please us. This has made a vital difference for those who use her method-and for dogs taught by it to succeed in competitive canine sports.
In this new, updated edition, Bauman presents the most current knowledge on canine learning patterns. Believing that dogs learn by trial and error, Bauman provides a novel approach that encourages dogs to learn by removing corrections for incorrect responses. As a result, dogs do not fear failure and are taught to exercise options in a quest for the desired behavior.
Bauman shows you how to become a "thinking handler" who can train the "thinking dog." Her remarkable ability to view training from the dog's perspective translates into an invaluable tool for building effective communication between you and your dog.
The instruction in this authoritative guide is behind Gaines "Superdogs," numerous obedience trial champions, and a host of other canine successes. If you want your dog to be happy, confident stimulated, and secure in the obedience ring, Beyond Basic Dog Training is the book of choice.
Customer Reviews:
Please ignore the totally erroneous reviews that mislead you into believing this is coersion-based or full of corrections.......2007-08-29
The negative reviews are 180º off the mark about this most excellent book. Not only is correction NOT encouraged at all, the word NO is NOT to be used with this method at all. Ms. Bauman teaches that to be WRONG more than OK, it is a learning opportunity for the dog. There are NO, nada, absolutely zero harsh corrections, only gentle "helps" to the dog when they don't understand the command. The (there is no other word for it)LIE that chairs were thrown or any other such horrible thing isn't even in the *realm* of truth about this book. This book stresses a method that will produce very very good results, and a methond in which the dog remains happy and pleased to do the work, a VERY far cry from the criticism that was launched at it. No "hang-head" obedience dogs will result from this book, only HAPPY, healthy, dogs EAGER to do these exercises, because it gives them such a sense of confidence. I trained a dog using this method back when the book first came out. We never went beyond novice because life got in the way. But the method is simply the best you'll find out there. There may be others that work, but you'll not wind up with a HAPPY dog to do it. With this method you will have a very happy and CONFIDENT dog.
Competent but uninspired.......2007-06-29
Beyond Basic Dog Training is a competent, if uninspired, account of Diane Bauman's methods for training dogs to perform Kennel Club obedience routines. The book is a series of short chapters covering most obedience exercises from Novice to Utility, as well as short discussions on training equipment and trialing tips. Due to the limited scope this book will not be especially helpful to the pet owner wishing to teach basic manners and practical obedience, though it could be a useful read for an obedience competitor.
The teaching methods themselves are old fashioned and rather boring. Dogs are pushed into sits, pulled into send aways, ear-pinched into retrieving. There is no discussion of other methods that can be used to achieve these behaviours (luring, shaping, capturing, etc), leaving the reader rather at a loss if the given method does not work for them.
Bauman's catch-phrase is that it is "good to be wrong", which means that a dog should not be corrected in the learning phase of training. Like most good trainers, she believes dogs should only ever be corrected if they are defiant, not if they are confused or frightened. Bauman discusses how to safely fit and use several types of correction collar, and how to determine which collar is best for a certain dog.
Bauman emphasises the importance of praising the dog for good work, but doesn't present a particularly coherent account on how to motivate a dog or utilise his drives. She does suggest using small food tidbits to reward dogs, but does not go into detail about how or when to deliver these. She does not discuss the use of prey drive or toy rewards at all, despite them being exceptionally useful for some dogs. Neither does she explain anything about operant or classical conditioning, or about marker words or bridges.
In conclusion, although I doubt any dog would be harmed by use of these methods, I also doubt that this method will get the best obedience performance out of every dog. Some dogs need more motivation than Ms Bauman provides, or do better with "hands-off" techniques, and this book unfortunately does not cater for the learning styles of these canines. However, it is still worth a read for kennel club obedience competitors, who might well pick up some useful tips.
If you feel that obedience titles are worth hurting your dog, this book is for you!.......2007-05-17
Two days ago, I was extremely excited about receiving this book in the mail. I was lulled by promises that the book would show me how to "become a thinking handler who can train a thinking dog" and how to encourage "dogs to learn by removing corrections for incorrect responses". Now here I sit utterly disappointed in having wasted money on a book that encourages people to pinch their dogs ears and to "use the collar choke approach for dogs who are not responsive to an ear pinch" (p.163 Beyond Basic Dog Training, Bauman). If you're not sure how to do the latter, the book has a picture of a dog being choked for your reference! Wow! This book is very outdated and needs to be modernized to reflect all of the advances that dog training has made in recent years. I have seen many handlers achieve stellar obedience scores through the use of positive training ...looks like I'll be turning to them for advice instead of this book.
Best dog training book I've read to date.......2007-01-19
Bauman's book is a no-nonsense approach to obedience training with an eye on competing. She is thorough in her discussions and accurately provides details into the how, why, where and when to create the results that are wanted with training. I found this book to be very complimentary to other positive training books I've previously read. Would recommend this read to anyone who is a novice trainer like myself who wants/needs more information than they are receiving in a class setting. Additionally, I believe it would serve the trainer who must train alone.
complete training pattern but coercion based training.......2007-01-05
When then book originally came out it was quite forward thinking in its methodology. Fortunately for our dogs there has been a quiet revolution in dog training to a less coercive method of training. For example, her method of teaching sit involves pulling up on the collar while pushing on the dog. In short physical discomfort is being created for a command that the dog does not even know. Her methods are based on negative reinforcement. The correct response will make the discomfort vanish. This type of training can be effective if you have the right dog for the stress it will produce and if you the handler have great timing and can always perfectly and rapidly make all pressure vanish when the performance is correct.
Book Description

Book Description
In the 1930s, the shortwave radio craze was just beginning to sweep the nation, and Hallicrafters radios began to boom from coast to coast and around the world! Until the 1980s, this Chicago-based firm aimed for the average consumer, and produced high quality radios on the cutting edge of technology, all reasonably priced. Today, collectors of electronics are fascinated by these pieces of radio history, most of which can be restored to their original working condition. This book includes over a thousand photographs of radio receivers, transmitters, speakers, early television sets, electronics accessories, and advertising material. Technical descriptions are provided for every known Hallicrafters model, including dates of production, model numbers, accompanying pieces, and original prices. A current price guide is included for collectors.
Customer Reviews:
"The" Reference for Hallicrafters products!.......1999-07-27
My first shortwave receiver, as a 12 year old, was a Hallicafters S-38. I thought it was a really impressive looking radio then and have always loved the hallicrafters looks and the performance of their top end receivers. Chuck Dachis has clearly wrote the most complete reference for all the products made by Hallicrafters. As a collector and restorer of tube type radios the book has been an invaluable reference. The only down side is I found more models and accessories that I would like to add to my collection. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves old radios.
The Undisputed Bible of Hallicrafters Collectors.......1999-05-04
For the thousands of shortwave listeners and hams who were introduced to the wonder of radio - this is a book that will re-kindle the wonder. For collectors of vintage TV's, BC table radios and military radios, no other reference details these rare products.
Radios by Hallicrafters is logically divided into product prefixes. Most products have one or more pictures, with brief descriptions, production dates and orginal price. A useful index of market values is provided, as well as a history of the company and other Hallicrafters information.
Chuck's love for Hallicrafters products is evident, and his book is well dog-eared by serious Hallicrafters collectors.

Customer Reviews:
A great source for the one (or two) bunny family!.......1999-01-14
This is a book for those that don't want to have a rabbitry. It is designed for the person who wishes to raise just one rabbit as a pet and as a wool source. Comprehesive and well written, it includes sections on how to grade, harvest and use your fiber.
Excellent resource book for every aspect of angora rabbits........1998-11-23
This book is absolutely outstanding for the serious spinner and for those who raise angora rabbits for their wool. There is much information I was unable to find anywhere else.
Covers all breeds of angora rabbits in relation to spinning........1998-10-11
I checked this out of the library 5 times before I finally bought it. It's very informative for anyone interested in raising and spinning the four breeds of angora rabbit.

Book Description
The Peshitta version of the Syriac translation of the Old Testament was made during the first centuries of the Christian era and has been used ever since in the non-western churches of Semitic signature. Much like the Greek translations of the Old Testament, this ancient version is an important source for our knowledge of the text of the Old Testament. In contrast to the manuscripts of most Hebrew traditions, which date from the beginning of the Middle Ages, the extant manuscripts date from the fifth century.

Book Description
This is the first volume of a six-volume Concordance based on the critical text edition of the Peshitta (Published by E.J. Brill from 1972). This first part focuses on the Pentateuch, while subsequent volumes will cover Historical Books, Prophets, Writings, Deutero-Canonical and Apocryphal Books. The final part will comprise a General Index. Each volume will contain: 1) A General Concordance presenting the Syriac lemmata in alphabetical order, Hebrew and/or Greek correspondences (in accordance with the supposed original language of each book), a Latin and English translation, and variants (including those of the editions of Mossul, Urmia, Lee). 2) An Appendix, consisting of indexes on: Proper and Geographical Names, English, Latin, Hebrew, Greek and Syriac words (listed according to their roots), prepositions and characteristics of verb forms. The concordance will serve as an important tool for scholars and students in the fields of biblical exegesis, philological and linguistic studies, translation technique and the study of the theology of the Syriac churches.

Book Description
This amusing and provocative collection of early hand-tinted postcards and black-and-white photographs presents the American female bather in her colorful seaside costumes. Posed and spontaneous, sober and giddy, these early images offer a delightful ode to women at the beach. They also serve as an evocative social document of the newly liberated woman. Victorian women in their last age of innocence went to the beach heavily clad and were bystanders as men frolicked in the surf. But social mores and fashions began to change at the turn of the century. Women cast aside their cumbersome garments for scantier and sometimes risqué bathing frocks, which in turn gave way to the daring swimsuit. A camera-happy nation documented these carefree women at the beach. Beach Beauties captures the best of these delightful seaside scenes.
