Book Description
Meet the little known and even less understood heroes of police work in Las Vegas -- the forensic investigators. Led by veteran Gil Grissom, the remarkable team assigned to the Criminalistics Bureau's graveyard shift -- including Catherine Willows, Warrick Brown, Nick Stokes, and Sara Sidle -- must combine cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned savvy as they work to untangle the evidence behind the yellow police tape. While Nick and Catherine investigate a newly discovered fifteen-year-old murder, Grissom and the rest of the team must uncover the indentity of a cold-blooded killer -- one whose execution-style, "double-tap" signature has provoked the interest of FBI agent Rick Culpepper.

Meet the little known and even less understood heroes of police work in Las Vegas - the forensic investigators. Led by veteran Gil Grissom, the remarkable team assigned to the Criminalistics Bureau's graveyard shift -including Catherine Willows, Warrick Brown, Nick Stokes, and Sara Sidle - must combine cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned savvy as they work to untangle the evidence behind the yellow police tape. DOUBLE DEALER Wednesday, 5:30 AM: in an off-the-strip, somewhat-out-of-the-way casino, a room-service waiter rounds a corner and stumbles across a killer - and a corpse. Homicide detective Jim Brass summons Grissom and company to the scene. As Brass follows his instincts, Warrick and Sara follow evidence the killer left behind, and Nick and Catherine investigate a murder that's fifteen years new. Although focused at first on the perpetrator's deadly double-tap signature, Grissom will soon make the most troubling discovery of all: the inexplicable interest of FBI agent Rick Culpepper.

Follow the evidence.......2007-10-06
While I enjoy the TV series episodes, I have come to equally enjoy the books because they focus on some of the psychological details of the characters. This particular story was an enjoyable one that kept me guessing and routing for the CSI team to bring all of the evidence together and stick it to the bad guy! As I have read a couple of the CSI books, I am becoming more and more riveted by the cool level-headed Grissom and the interesting and somewhat jaded Brass. It's a great story that is perfect for a stormy day.
A blast from the past goes down at last.......2007-05-12
For all you fans of CSI
We give you now - The Book
With Gris and crew hot on the case
It's more than worth a look
Just like they do it on the show
they're tackling two cases
two murders at two different times
and in two different places
One gets popped in his hotel
the other's mummified
It's time to find out who they were
and why is it they died
Grissom, Sidle, Willows, Brown
Sanders, Brass and Stokes
They sort and sift the evidence
Not much gets past these folks
Two murders with one signature
Just watch them find out why
the hardest part's the dodging game
around the FBI

who did it?.......2007-04-24
*Double Dealer: CSI* was a fast-paced mystery that left you guessing who did these crimes. *Double Dealer* is an easy read that doesn't dwell forever on the technical aspects or jargon of forensic investigation.
A mummified body has been found at an abandoned building that used to be a casino. There are 2 bullet entries at the back of his head. Fingers are missing. This body had disappeared 15 years ago.
Another body has been found at a casino. 2 bullet entries are found at the back of his head.
Are the CSI dealing with a serial killer? The team seems to think so. However, Grissom, with his Vulcan-like mind and approach, tells the team to follow the evidence and leave out their feelings. The CSI finds more DNA than suspects. So, just how many people are involved?!?!
Meanwhile, the FBI are sniffing around for information. Just what exactly are their involvement with the case(s)?
Like I said, it's an easy read that will grip your attention to the end.
Like a college fling--easy on the eyes, and not too complicated.......2006-06-21
I didn't have high expectations when I first started this book. I had received it as par of a PC game package, and I thoroughly loved it.
Patricia Cornwell's novels are sometimes a bit tough to read. She starts getting all caught up in other things and eventually I get bored and wander off. The CSI novels, however, are fast paced, give you just enough to be interested, are easy to read, and give you good twists. It's not weighed down with a lot of complicated character development. There's just enough there to make you satisfied.
This particular novel gives a great story with some interesting plot twists. If you enjoy the series, like the books, and own a PC, I'd recommend any of the CSI PC games too.
in keeping with the TV show.......2006-02-25
I enjoyed this book. It was a good read and faithful to the shows. I have also enjoyed the rest in this series.

Book Description
Millions of readers have discovered the magic of David Eddings’ New York Times bestselling series The Belgariad. Now the first three books in this monumental epic appear in a single volume. Here, long-time fans can rediscover the wonder—and the uninitiated can embark upon a thrilling new journey of fantasy and adventure.
It all begins with the theft of the Orb that for so long protected the West from an evil god. As long as the Orb was at Riva, the prophecy went, its people would be safe from this corrupting power. Garion, a simple farm boy, is familiar with the legend of the Orb, but skeptical in matters of magic. Until, through a twist of fate, he learns not only that the story of the Orb is true, but that he must set out on a quest of unparalleled magic and danger to help recover it. For Garion is a child of destiny, and fate itself is leading him far from his home, sweeping him irrevocably toward a distant tower—and a cataclysmic confrontation with a master of the darkest magic.

Fun, Simple Read.......2007-10-11
First, let me mention that this book, which combines books 1 to 3 in one volume, is physically large. I had originally bought this to read while exercising on an elliptical, but it is too bulky for that purpose. Doesn't affect the contents, just when I read it.
The writing is engaging and enjoyable. The story line is fairly simple and predictable. The characters are fairly well filled out, although they tend to be stereotypical within each culture depicted in the book.
As a previous reviewer had written, one of the nicest things of this series is that it has a definitive ending, and does not drag on forever.
I only give the book 4 stars because the plot follows the epic fantasy formula so closely. But still a book well worth picking up to read on the beach or as an escape in the evening. (It helped distract me while I had a cold. Captivating enough to keep my attention even though I wasn't feeling that well, and not so deep that it made me pause and reflect.)
Love it, always have!.......2007-08-15
Approximately 15 years ago, I was given a copy of Pawn of Prophecy (Belgariad). I quickly read all the Belgariad, then the Mallorean and moved on to Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress. I have never read anything like these books. Over the last 15 years I have read all these books at least 20 times. Everytime I read the series something else comes out of the books that i either didn't notice last time or that became more important as I aged. David and his wife Leigh Eddings intersperse just enough philosphy and aged wisdom to enhance the reading experience. Dialog is often funny, while maintaining the seriousness of the story.
For a great read, and an engaging read, I recommend you read the best series of books I have ever read.
A little simple, but an engaging series that doesnt drag on forever.......2007-07-11
While the plot line is of a simplish epic quest, good vs evil, type, that doesnt detract from the enjoyment of reading these books at all. Not only is the entire series fast paced and full of action, but the interactions between the characters, whom I love dearly, are also very entertaining and hilarious.
Both this series, and its sequel series, are well worth the read, so buy them, and don't cheat yourself out of a great read by only buying the first few.
Nothing inherently wrong with the writing but...........2007-07-06
I read some good reviews of this series and thought it might be worth checking out. There is nothing horrible about the writing. The storyline is interesting, though a bit of a cliche. The problem with the books (I only read the first two) is that every character is a stereotype. All Drasnians are cunning and secretive, all Chereks are big brutes who get drunk and like to fight, all Murgos are bad etc. etc. No one in the books seem to have a free thought apart from where they are from. There is nothing inherently bad about the writing, but I found the shallow stereotypical characters mundane and a little disturbing. But if you can read the books without actually thinking about what you are reading than go for it.
A good, simple read!.......2007-06-21
I have to admit that when I started reading these stories, I felt the plot was somewhat slow. But keep going! the books are not all that long. You need to read through at least book 3, which is my favorite so far. Eddings writing gets better the further you read. Some people have complained that these stories are cliche. They are not exactly original, but if the writing is good, it's worth it to read them. Why can't we every now and then just read a good book and not worry about its originality, how deep is the story? Just once in awhile read a book and enjoy it for the journey it takes you on. This is one of those books!
Book Description
In Character is Destiny, McCain tells the stories of celebrated historical figures and lesser-known heroes whose values exemplify the best of the human spirit. He illustrates these qualities with moving stories of triumph against the odds, righteousness in the face of iniquity, hope in adversity, and sacrifices for a cause greater than self-interest. The tributes he pays here to men and women who have lived truthfully will stir the hearts of young and old alike, and help prepare us for the hard work of choosing our destiny.

Character is Destiny.......2007-07-12
This is a collection of stories about inspirational individuals that made a positive impact on others and the world we live in. I would recommend this book to anyone, young or old.
Excellent...Timeless Book for Generations........2006-12-29
I originally got this book for myself which is signed by Senator McCain and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to share it. I bought one for my friends with families, young and old. Everyone loved it! I am really excited that I found it. It's a great gift for anyone. I have been asked where I bought it so other's could also give it as a gift. You'll find quotes and stories from many prominent people like Benjamin Franklin to Mother Teresa. I highly recommend this for everyone!
Character Is Destiny: Inspiring Stories Every Young Person Should Know and Every Adult Should Remember
Great book for the whole family.......2006-11-16
This is a book that appeals to a broad range of ages. I used it to work with high school students and they found the stories interesting and the people inspiring.
Superb Gift Idea.......2006-11-06
This is a wonderful book greatly enjoyed by my family (including an 11 year old). It is the gift of choice this Holiday Season for teachers, neighbors etc.
Character - A Lost Art that McCain is trying to Revive .......2006-07-12
This is a good book. Not something you sit down and read but rather something you sit by the bed and read a chapter now and then. It's long but its worth the time. Took me a few months. You'll read about all kinds of real people and their courageous acts that seperate them from the normal. Everyone from Gandhi, to Shackleton, to Lord Nelson and Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa. I think there is 36 in all. The diversity is great since you read about all times in history and all kinds of situations and people. Loved it.

Book Description
The National Museum of Forest Service History presents a charming cookbook that celebrates decades of camp cooking by countless Forest Service agents in the field.
Customer Reviews:
Great Ideas!.......2007-10-08
This book offers some interesting background and stories plus lots of great recipes - mainly for dutch ovens but also for skillet cooking.
All Mormon.......2007-01-10
I was disappointed that almost all the photos were of Mormons in Utah or Arizona - This book seems to ignore the many other non-Mormon pioneers and history.
Campfire fun.......2006-12-26
This has some good recipes, historical camp photos and stories.
A fun and practical read.
A Terrific Recipe Book and Much, Much More.......2006-10-24
This delightful book presents a mixture of terrific recipes, historic camp photos and wonderful tales of early days in the Forest Service. The emphasis is on Dutch oven and camp-fire cooking. Inside you will find dozens of interesting recipes: Bean Hole Beans, One-Eyed Buffaloes, Pistol Rock Chicken and Creamy Pumpkin Pie to name just a few.
Far more than just another cookbook, "Camp Cooking: 100 Years" is a real treasure of Forest Service lore. This is one book that always finds its way into our 5th wheel when we hit the road and yet quickly migrates back into the house as soon as we return to our place of sticks and bricks. If there is a better camp cooking book for the money, we don't know what it is.
vintage recipes.......2005-08-31
I highly reccommend this charming book produced by the folks at the National Forest Service non-profit museum in Montana, and chock full of recipes from forest ranger districts all over the country, celebrating 100 years of service. So it is filled with historic stories and photos of early ranger camps and cooks. Some of these vintage recipes have been around for awhile, and are very nostalgic. Most recipes list the contributing ranger, and their district. Spiral binding makes it easy to cook with, as you can keep the book open and flat on the page you need. All cookbooks should be made like that.
Most of these dishes are for cooking on a cabin stove or fire. The recipes rely on heavier fresh, dry, or canned ingredients similar to what you have at home. So any of these recipes can be made in your own kitchen, but are also good for RV and car camping. Starts with dutch oven cooking basics. Has chapters on breads, breakfasts, veggies, main dishes, and desert. Has an index. This book was released in 2004. It is 192 pages in length.
For a look at modern Ranger cooking see "Wilderness Ranger Cookbook", which is a modern ultra-light backpacking recipes cookbook from backcountry Forest Service Wilderness Rangers all across America. It is available at Amazon.

Thinking of getting a low-maintenance pet that requires little cost and minimal upkeep? After reading this book, you may want to reconsider choosing a fish. As author Gregory Skomal illustrates, creating a healthy environment for your fish is not as easy as you might think. Gone are the days of putting fish in a bowl and tossing them some fish flakes every now and then; today's savvy fish owners have freshwater aquariums with the proper pH balance and feed their fish household foods such as canned peas, raw ground beef, and cooked egg yolks. Part one of Setting up a Saltwater Aquarium includes chapters on the physical properties of a fish, helping readers understand the basic needs of their prospective pet, as well as the necessary information to set up the fish's new home. Part two guides the reader through the fish selection process. The third part of the book is the most thorough, including information on such topics as feeding your fish, keeping your fish healthy, and breeding your fish. The end of the book recommends resources such as clubs, books, and Internet sites that fish aquarists can access to keep their information current. Complete with illustrations and color photographs, Setting up a Freshwater Aquarium is full of interesting and useful information for the would-be fish owner.

Basic but behind the times.......2002-10-05
A good book introductory book when it was published but does not contain the latest information. Shimek has written subsequent introductory book with additional information.
i didn't think it was too informative........1998-07-19
I think that this book was well written but it lacked information on modern filtration systems and was generally too far back in the past to be an outstanding reference. This is the only flaw i found in the book, otherwise it is a fairly good pick!

Absolutely vital for the do-it-yourself homeowner.......2001-12-14
This is the only home repair book I have found that shows you how to repair your oven, how to light pilot lights, maintain air conditioners, and fix your dishwasher. It is easy to find books that show how to do carpentry and drywall. It is a rare gem that gives excellent illustrations to take care of your major appliances. This book paid for itself with my first repair - I fixed my own oven. Put it on your bookshelf next to the Reader's Digest Complete Do-it-yourself manual. You can fix anything!
Great book for homeowner.......2001-05-16
This book is a Must have book for any homeowner. I already own several kind home improvements, but so far I prefer this book much better than my other books.

A wonderful book.......1999-10-13
Julie Roy Jeffrey's achievement is a must for anyone interested in the history of the American frontier. It tells the tragic tale of a clash between two incompatible cultures and consequently highlights the complexity of the frontier experience. Here all notions of European conquest or Native American savagery are replaced by a reality of failed coexistence.
