I enjoyed this book, although not quite as much as the other two in the series. I think that the author did leave an opening in this book that would allow him to write another. I hope he does write another for the series. This is a series which is best read in order since it is slightly difficult to follow some of the plot lines and people if you do not. This book is sadder than The Magic and the Healing but, not as sad as Under the Healing Sign. Even with the slower pace I read this book in one sitting. I wanted to know what happened to BJ and the rest. Read it you will love it, but read the first two first and you will love it more!

I really loved and highly recommend the first two books in the Crossroads series, but I did not enjoy this book nearly as much. The characters were very underdeveloped and the plot very stiff compared to the other books. The plot was filled with so many twists and so many new characters were introduced that not enough attention and detail was devoted to any of them. I hope that another Crossroads book will be written and the characters explored in more depth.

O'Donohoe continues to develop the Crossroads setting in this third installment of the series. He continually adds new characters, which keeps things from getting dull or repetitious, and allows the older characters to develop well, but things get rather cluttered in this book. As a result, numerous personalities are shortchanged and given few lines or deeds. The combination of real world situations, myth and pure imagination remains solid. Recommended, though not as much as the first two books.

I really enjoyed this book. Probably not as much as the first book in the series, though.
This one, however, had some interesting twists to it.
If you are looking for a new fantasy series to read, I definitely recommend this series, but
start with "The magic and the healing". Then read the next two books (this is the third).
I can't wait for Nick to write another book in the series - Are you listening, Nick? Maybe tell the story of one of the minor characters in one of the earlier books or something like that.

Dr. Black highlights in a very cogent, verifiable manner that we (humans seeking for optimal health in a world of spiraling medical costs and drugs that are recalled for harmful side-effects) have TWO healing principles to assist us in our quest for wellness. Dean Black does us all an insightful favor by pointing out that our bodies are fully capable of healing themselves when provided the proper foods, liquids, oxygen, and exercise. Conventional medicine has a respectful role to provide temporary and emergency support when our bodies are in crisis. There is a place for both, and we must know when to apply each, in order to have and to maintain a long and healthy quality of life. This is an excellent book to assist us in achieving that understanding.

Dr. Laura always shoots the straight goods & this book is no exception to her track record. She's not intending to solve all the world's problems, but she does speak directly to the heart of MANY problems our American families struggle with in today's culture. Proper Care is a practical, kick-butt, inspiring book that ANY woman would benefit from. It's also a great gift book!
The biggest issue.......2007-05-29
We find in relationships when we have problems that respect is really the biggest issue. Dr. Laura's book " The Proper Care and feeding of husbands" is a mind changing book. Dr. Laura is an in your face kind of gal. When I was in highschool I was first introduced to her by my Latin teacher during a free-period when I helped grade tests, and papers. I was shocked as I had never heard anyhting like her radio show...a strong woman...I was amazed.
I came to read this book years later when I was struggling with a relationship. Everything in this book clicked with me. When you're in a bad way in a relationship- as much as you want it to be right- you create your own barrier most times. It taught me to be respectful, gratuitous, and to remember the hard work that every person commits to the relationship. Instead of nagging about what you don't like- cut some slack and appreciate what you do like.
Dr. Laura also addressed the issue of insecurity. She made me realize that part of why I was not happy with my significant other was because I was not happy with myself. That alone gave me the courage to do what I needed to do for me. It's a book about respecting the ones you love, and respecting yourself.

If you're worried about slipping decades back in the feminist movement by following Dr. Laura's advice, then you'll probably skip right past the common sense advice. Dr. Laura promotes celebrating the differences between husbands and wives. Generation X and all that came after have been brain washed into thinking that there is something wrong with being a woman. This book points out the beauty of how men and women can compliment each other. Men have their roles - they are men. Women have their roles - which are no less valuable to the world or marriage - they are women. This book can truly change your marriage.

This book is not as bad as some people have reviewed it to be. Although, I found a lot of the content to be common sense. You know...mutual respect, making the other person in the relationship feel wanted and needed. Plus, it implies that if you follow all this advice, your husband will be putty in your hands. My 6 year old was over the moon with this book.......2007-03-19
My 6 year old wanted a Star Wars party, so I was delighted to find this book. The projects were definitely for adults, so I ended up making everything, but I kind of expected that anyway. The color photos were great, especially the ones that featured my son's beloved action figures. He loves just looking through the book at the pictures.

This book also has several party ideas as well as recipes.

recipe for disaster.......2005-05-16
For one thing, it was basicly just normal recipies creativly named after a star wars charactor. For instance, HAn Solo Hogies, or Jango Jumbalia. The sandwich had nothing to do with han solo or star wars. of the ones that looked half-way decent (clone tropper cakes, bubble city pops, Death star pinata, and JAbba's juce) didnot work out! the bubble city pops are imposible to make! If you happen to get the lemonaid in the ballons with out spiling it all and they do freeze over night and don't fall over, you can not cut the balloon off with out turning the pop to malt! the Death Star Paper Machay is, like any paper machay, practicly imposible to get round, but especialy hard this one with the hole for a cannon thing and the perfect paint job and lines. The clone trooper cakes are impossible to frost! JAbba's juice SEEMED easy; just punch with green coloring and gummy worms, right? WRONG! if you follow the recipie in the book, it tastes like JAbba's Juice! Every one at my party hated the punch! I must admit, it was sort of sweet and quenched your thearst, but it tasted mostly like carbonated water. Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars, but this is a disgrace in my oppinion! If it wasn't library book i would of burned the book! i'm serius! in fact, i'm still considering if its worth the cost to pay for loosing it! Don't waste your Money! Do not buy this book!

If you've already studied all of the Gouldian Finch information on the Web, and now you're looking for a resource that will be more comprehensive and authoritative, then this is NOT the book for you. A simple Google search will easily unearth more information, and the Gouldians you will read about on the Web are far more robust than the seemingly suicidal birds described in this little volume. In fairness to the author, I'll add that this book was published in 1991, and much of the information on the Web was probably extrapolated from this author's pioneering work.
A more petty grievance about this book is that the author deserved better editing by his publisher. Someone should have renovated all of the awkward sentences, the possessives without apostrophes, and the outright errors, such as where we're instructed to PALPITATE (instead of PALPATE) a bird's belly.

This book is very accessible, has solid information for the beginner or person who just got a bird and needs to quickly know the basics. The photos are lovely, and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in a good overview of gouldians.

If you are serious about raising these beautiful birds, this book is a must. It covers everything I needed to care for my Gouldians. The pictures are also quite nice. The section on genetics is very important for us who want to breed them, which is a lot of fun.

I found this book very interesting, and providing helpfull information for the average finch keeper. I have been raising and breeding exclusively gouldians for about 13 years now, so I find the genetics section in this book (though not VERY elaborate) of primordial importance. I also liked the vivid description of the nuptial dance, the sound and chirps etc... as well as the pictures. So, if to say, on a scale of ten, 1 being a very silly book and 10 an extensive genetical analyisis and nutritional guide for expert breeders, I give this book a well-earned 7.

This book is very useful for someone interested in keeping and breeding gouldianfinches; reviews the color varieties and living conditions in the wild, a history of keeping and breeding in captivity and recomendations in terms of acclimatizing new birds, housing them and nutritional requirements. Recommendations for both cage and colony breeding are provided as well as chapter on genetics. Chapters contain many illustrations to help the reader. I have found this book very useful and have returned to it again and again over the years that I have had it. Very beneficial both for the experienced breeder and the "newbie" wanting to learn about the care required for these birds.

Good ideas - not complete guide.......2007-09-29
The Complete Guide is a great addition to your library if you have the basics of Yarmulka crocheting under your belt. The patterns seem to be good for the personalizing of the yarmulkas, but you do need to know the basics of Yarmulka crocheting first. If you do not know how to start a Yarmulka or how to read a chart or how to do color changes, you may need a hand in getting started. My plan is to learn these things and then make some Yarmulkas for my son's Bar Mitzvah.
I do know how to crochet and by no means consider myself a beginner. This book has thrown me and made me question my ability.

I was looking for more detailed instructions in how to crochet a yarmulke. This book is almost exclusively designs for multicolor patterns...it has one paragraph on how to crochet the basic shape.

I know how to crochet and wanted to make yarmulkas. This book only contains a half of a pattern for one type of yarmulka, the flat old fashioned type. I expected several patterns for different shapes and/or different gauges. The partial pattern given has no gauge and invites the crocheter to increase as needed. It has a lot of charted patterns for adding as decoration around the kipot edge. They may be worthwhile, but not until I find a pattern.

I am disappointed in this book, but it's the only one I could find, and it's not so expensive that I feel I wasted my money. I agree with the other comments; it really gives virtually no instructions (which wouldn't be a problem if it were not advertised as giving complete ones), the patterns are not very interesting, and it ought to have at least a few photos. Once you've done one or two yourself, you could easily make up this kind of pattern yourself. I also agree that there are newer styles, including spirals and other "full-kippa" designs, as opposed to solid color with a border, that should be included, along with extra instructions for increasing. The color chart is a nice touch, and it makes for a pretty cover, but the colors aren't very accurate. I thought it was a good idea to include contact information for a very good supplier.
Perhaps the authors would consider a new edition?

Great Book has many yamulka designs.If you have a problem crocheting or if you tried to crochet and still can't understand it then you need to buy a book specifically for learning how to crochet. I love this book and it works for me.
