"Walter Mosley's bestselling and award-winning novels -- from Gone Fishin' to Devil in a Blue Dress, named one of the ""100 Favorite Mysteries of the Century"" by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association -- have endeared him to legions of readers from a U.S. president to everyday people who can't get enough of Easy Rawlins. Now from the bestselling and award-winning writer comes Six Easy Pieces. The beloved Ezekiel Rawlins now has a steady job as senior head custodian of Sojourner Truth High School, a nice house with a garden, a loving woman, and children. He counts the blessings of leading a law-abiding life, but is ""nowhere near happy."" Easy mourns the loss of his best friend, Mouse. Though Easy tries to leave the street life behind, he still finds himself trading favors and investigating cases of arson, murder, and missing people. People who can't depend on the law to solve their problems seek out Easy. A bomb is set in the high school where Easy works. A man's daughter runs off with his employee. A beautiful woman turns up dead and the man who loved her is wrongly accused. Easy is the man people turn to in search of justice and retribution. He even becomes party to a killing that the police might call murder. Six of the seven stories in Six Easy Pieces were published in reissued Washington Square Press editions of the Easy Rawlins mysteries Gone Fishin', Devil in a Blue Dress, A Red Death, White Butterfly, Black Betty, and A Little Yellow Dog. A seventh, ""Amber Gate,"" is newly published here, making this new Walter Mosley classic a must-have for all fans of great fiction. "

Excellent.......2007-02-20
Walter, you are a great writer and Michael Boatman is the BEST narrator. I love the combination and I want all of your older books on Audio, I can get my work done, or drive while still listening. It just makes me want more of your work. Please don't do the SCI FI thing, yet it is always good to try something different, but I love Easy, MOUSE and that story line
Seven Scintillating Servings of Suspense.......2007-01-28
Like all of us, Easy Rawlins is the summation of where he was born, how he has lived, whom he loves, what he wants to become, and why he acts. In the case of Easy (born Ezekiel), Louisiana spawned a poor boy who fought his way of the roughest part of Houston at the side of his unafraid and murderous friend, Raymond Alexander (Mouse) via World War II, and then came to Watts where the only people he could trust were other African Americans. Hiding his good side, Easy did favors for people . . . and righted many wrongs in the process. This often placed him in a vulnerable position between the police who wanted to use him . . . and evil-doers who wanted to eliminate him. In the process, Easy emerged as middle-aged with two children he has rescued (Jesus who dreamily builds a sail boat and young Feather who goes to school), a little yellow dog, Frenchie, and Bonnie, a stewardess he has invited into their lives. Unknown to most, he's become a property owner building a future for his kids. In public, he heads the custodial staff at Sojourner Truth Junior High School. In private, he will right wrongs that others will walk past.
These seven short stories capture Easy in transition while he tries to settle down at 44 in 1964. The first six stories were added to the reprints of Gone Fishin', Devil in a Blue Dress, A Red Death, White Butterfly, Black Betty, and A Little Yellow Dog in 2002. The seventh story is new with this volume.
These stories deeply explore Easy's relationship with his friend, Mouse, Easy's family, his work, and a number of his friends. As background, Easy had asked Mouse to help him a year earlier. That help had led to Mouse being shot and carried off with no pulse by his wife, EttaMae. Easy has been searching for Etta Mae so he can pay his last respects to Mouse, but Etta Mae has vanished. Easy is also trying to decide how much of his heart he can share with Bonnie.
In Smoke, the junior high school suffers smoke damage and destruction by the fireman who douse the fire from an arsonist's device. This attack on his authority in the community has to be addressed. And why does someone call him looking for Mouse?
In Crimson Stain, Easy learns that a woman named Etheline Toms thinks she has seen Mouse. In tracking her down, he discovers a murder and travels between a house of ill repute and a church to avenge an innocent's death.
In Silver Lining, Easy meets his new principal and an old friend needs help to rescue a missing person. In a dramatic climax, life moves on after justice is done.
In Lavender, jealousy grabs Easy by the shirt-front when he sees a gift he wasn't meant to see. Etta Mae returns and demands that Easy repay her for the loss of Mouse by saving a young man who has walked into harm's way in responding to a woman's charms.
Gator Green finds Easy sleeping in the living room . . . much to Feather's concern. Saul Lynx, one of the few white men Easy trusts, needs help in clearing his brother-in-law. Easy goes undercover to find a thief . . . and finds himself tempted by a wanton woman.
An old acquaintance re-enters Easy's life in Gray-Eyed Death. Easy finds that a simple man from his childhood has been framed for a robbery and murder. Easy unravels what happened, but knows he cannot prove the case to satisfy the police. How else might justice be done?
Amber Gate introduces Easy to the death of a young woman who has more friends among older men than most. His shoemaker asks Easy to clear his landlord, and Easy finds what he's looking for where he least expects to find it.
Like all of Walter Mosley's writing about Easy Rawlins, these tales ring true, take us into the heart of another time and place we haven't experienced, and allow us to walk in another man's shoes in a way that leave us feeling the calling to reach out to others. Full of violence, these are really tales of supreme humanity. You'll be moved, and so you should be.
Bravo, Mr. Mosley!
Excellent.......2006-11-28
Walter Mosley is one of half a dozen detective novelists who are my favorites, who are in my opinion flat brilliant. He's written a number of Easy Rawlins novels, which are almost universally wonderful. This latest collection of short stories really works better as a novel with seven plots, but several background threads that run through the stories. One has Easy wondering if his friend Mouse is really dead, Easy having seen him get shot the previous year. Mouse's woman ran off with the body, though, and since Easy didn't see Mouse get buried, he's not entirely certain he's dead. Next we have a series of subplots involving Easy's family: his girlfriend goes to Africa as a stewardess and meets with royalty, his son has a boat, his daughter reads and goes to school. Lastly, he has subplots involving his work at Sojourner Truth Junior High School as a janitor, though of course since he's Easy there's more to the job than that.
The seven pieces included in the plot involve a variety of different crimes. Murder, arson, blackmail, kidnapping, fraud, and murder again are featured. Easy has to dodge several women, bad men, and nefarious plots. Things are resolved and several characters from previous books appear (one dies), and the author moves things right along.
I really enjoyed this short story collection. As I said, for the most part I think the stories work better together than apart, and I'm glad I read them as a collection.
Another Winner.......2006-08-13
A collection of six previously published and one new story comprise this novel which loosely moves forward the Easy narrative as he laments the loss of his friend Mouse, struggles with his relationship wth Bonnie and tries to do right by his kids. Mosley continues to stand out in contemporary crime fiction because the book(s) are equally as strong as a vivid portrait of being a black man in America. It's no contest that Easy is of the best drawn and fascinating caracters in literature today.
Mosely is doing it again..........2005-07-31
I love Easy Rawlins, his style and wit and go get itism. Mr. Mosley continues to be my most respected writer of fiction.

Customer Reviews:
Even better than the Seven Brothers trilogy.......2006-08-05
In his Seven Brothers fantasy trilogy, Curt Benjamin constructed a unique, mesmerizing fantasy world steeped in the lore of mediaeval Asian cultures and populated with all manner of gods and men. Here, magic and sorcery are decidedly real, gods take on the most unassuming of forms, and war is a way of life. Having greatly enjoyed the Seven Brothers trilogy, I was exceedingly happy to learn that Benjamin's next novel, Lords of Grass and Thunder, promised a return to that universe and a reunion with some of its unforgettable characters. The trilogy followed young prince Llesho as he escaped a life of slavery, reunited with his lost brothers, and eventually waged a successful war against demonic forces in the land. Among those who rode to war at the side of Llesho was young Prince Tayyichiut of the nomadic Qubal clans, who left home as a boy - he now returns as a warrior.
Whereas the events chronicled in the Seven Brothers trilogy played out on an epic, legendary scale, Lords of Grass and Thunder tells a story of political intrigue and personal jealousy. After Tayy's parents were murdered by a treacherous green bamboo snake demon (who assumed the appearance of the khan's new wife), his uncle, Mergen-Khan, reluctantly assumed the throne. A man of no great political ambition, Mergen-Khan overtly recognizes Tayy, upon his triumphant return from battle, as the rightful heir and plans to step aside as soon as Tayy is ready to assume the khanate. This does not sit well with Qutula, one of Mergen-Khan's illegitimate "blanket sons." As a loyal friend and companion of Prince Tayy, he is a recognized figure in the court, yet his father still won't even do him the honor of acknowledging him as his son. With his increasingly jealous heart, Qutula becomes the perfect vehicle for the second-chance designs of the green bamboo snake demon. Only one person senses the danger that walks beside Tayy, an apprentice shaman who sees her own fate in the face of the young prince. This maiden, Eluneke, is much more than she appears to be. While her fate and that of the endangered prince are indisputably intertwined, she must learn the secret gifts (and endure the demanding trials) of her shamanic trade quickly if she is to save him from the tragic death she sees overshadowing his face.
Lords of Grass and Thunder is in many ways a better read than Benjamin's previous novels, largely because it plays out on such a personal level. There is seemingly intrigue to be found beneath every tent in the Qubal clan, and there is never a lack of action among these nomadic warriors. Yes, there will be blood. As the rift between Tayy and Qutula opens and grows, it threatens to tear the entire clan apart (and leave the Qubal wide open to attack from their traditional enemies). Tayy has always been Benjamin's most sympathetic, human character, and Eluneke proves equally engaging from the first moment we meet her. Even minor characters fairly leap off the page, as Benjamin is a true master in the art of characterization.
With this, his fourth novel, Curt Benjamin firmly establishes a place for himself among the best writers working in the fantasy genre today. While many a fantasy writer basically churns out new versions of old stories (think of all the Lord of the Rings derivatives out there), Benjamin continues to blaze his own unique trail of creativity and originality. If you think there's nothing new or exciting in the world of fantasy, you obviously haven't discovered Curt Benjamin yet.
exciting and enthralling stand alone fantasy.......2005-04-06
After defeating the enemies of the Cloud Country, Count Mergen Khan and his heir Prince Tayyichiut head euphorically home. The Prince was a hero who played a major role in the triumph. His uncle is only waiting for his nephew to gain more experience before he turns the power over to him. Mergen's son Qutvla not officially reorganized as his child wants to be the khan instead of Prince Tayy.
The snake demon who killed Tayy's parents weaves a spell over Qutula to kill Tayy and his father, and marry her so she can be the Khan's wife until she kills him and rules in her own right. Tayy's one hope is the shaman in training Eluneke who is learning how to use her power and is determined to save her beloved future husband (she saw that in a vision) from death from those he trusts. It will take a lot of power for an untried shaman to go against a demon and her consort but go against them she will in order to save her beloved prince.
This novel takes place in the same universe as the SEVEN BROTHERS where Tayy was a hero. In LORDS OF GRASS AND THUNDER he comes home an idol but almost immediately he is trapped by court intrigue, serpent demons bent on conquest and the love of a shaman who has much to learn about the use of her powers. His cousin envies Prince Tayy; so out of jealously of his power and the love his father has for him, starts planning to bring him down Curt Benjamin has written an exciting and enthralling stand alone book that readers will enjoy immensely.

Amazon.com Audiobook Review
Relationship counselor John Gray focuses on the differences between men and women--men are from Mars, and women are from Venus, after all--and offers a simple solution: couples must acknowledge and accept these differences before they can develop happier relationships. In this unabridged version, Gray gives a spirited delivery of his message, especially when role-playing typical male/female interactions. Although it takes some time to adjust to his slightly nasal tone, the information is sound and gives both men and women helpful hints on improving themselves and their union. (Running time: 9.5 hours, 6 cassettes) --Sharon Griggins
Book Description
Once upon a time Martians and Venusians met, fell in love, and had happy relationships together because they respected and accepted their differences. Then they came to Earth and amnesia set in: they forgot they were from different planets.
Based on years of successful counseling of couples and individuals, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus has helped millions of couples transform their relationships. Now viewed as a modern classic, this phenomenal book has helped men and women realize how different they really are and how to communicate their needs in such a way that conflict doesn't arise and intimacy is given every chance to grow.

Its not only great for learning about your partner, but about yourself too. This is a great book.
P-E-R-F-E-C-T!!!.......2007-09-06
It's amazing book. Another one that I love and recommend - How to be a Super Hot Woman: 339 Tips to Make Every Man Fall in Love with You and Every Woman Envy You
If you are having a hard time in your relationship..........2007-09-03
I am a skeptic when it comes to self-help books, so I wasn't too excited when my husband purchased Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus for the two of us to read.
We had been together for seven years and our relationship was at an all time low. A number of things had happened and we had grown apart.
Then we read the book and saw ourselves on most of the pages. Many thoughtful and open discussions followed. It was the beginning of a recovery process which lasted a few months and has a perfect outcome. We are so close and so in love now - the centers of each others universe.
My favorite piece of advice from this book is setting time aside to spend with each other uninterrupted by TV, reading, etc. We do this at least a couple of times a week. Sometimes we just sit together in silence and relax; sometimes we discuss something trivial that's on our minds... These are perfect moments.
Obviously, it is hard for me to write all this because it is very personal. However, I sincerely hope to help another couple through this book and save them months of anguish. I wish someone had given us Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus a few months earlier.
A Classic!.......2007-08-30
Almost everything you wanted to know about the opposite sex!
Just great! A must have!
Why is this book so popular?.......2007-08-24
The reasons why this book gets two stars from me are as follows:
POSITIVE:
- Gray did make a few good, common sense points: Do nice things for your partner, don't try to fix your partner, be direct in making requests.
- Some real-life examples are true to life (such as the wife who keeps trying to coax an answer to "Is anything wrong?" out of her mate.)
NEGATIVE
- Gray is extremely self-righteous, which is very annoying.
- The book is VERY repetitive, which makes it hard to read.
- The Mars/Venus analogy gets annoying after a while.
- His gender assumptions are extremely rigid, without much room for individuality.
- Some of his examples are hair-raising: he tells the story of how his wife tore giving birth, and ran out of pain killers a week after delivery. When he came home from work, she told him that she was in pain all day and felt abandoned. His reaction? He exploded, shouted at her, and stormed off. What normal man would do such a thing??
- His dislike for the word "could" is hard to explain. He claims that "could" must be replaced with "would", or the husband will not respond to any requests.
- He claims that it is natural and important for women to fall into deep depressen regularly where childhood issues resurface and she has nohing left to give this world. If her man does not support her, she will fall into a panic. WHAT?!?
- His phrase dictionary is plain ridiculous. Here is an example: If a woman says "I am so tired, I can't do anything" a man will hear "...Picking you was a big mistake" unless he has read Gray's true interpretation. Uh-huh!
- The most offensive part of the book, though, is this assertion in the introduction: "About 10 percent of women will relate more to being from Mars. This is often simply a result of being born with higher testosterone levels than most other women." WHAT?!? If my readers don't agree with me, then they have a hormonal problem. This statement unsubstantiated, false, nonsensical, and brazen. Interestingly, he does not address the fact that some men may not find themselves in these pages, either.
Overall, the book deserves two stars, considering that it had a little bit of merit to it.

Kids Kitchen.......2007-02-19
This is a delightfol book well presented with creative recipies which will be fun for children. Most recipies are suitable for older children 12+ or younger with parent help. Each recipe has a photo and there are lots of Disney characters throughout. Enjoy!
Lovely Ideas.......2004-02-25
I bought this book expecting something different then when it was. I had bought a Disney party planner a few years back and most of the recipes in this book are close to or are exactly the same as the one in the other book. The ideas are cute, and would be great for little kid's birthday parties. The recipes are also in a wierd order, they group them together by movie, and not by type, i.e. the cakes are all in different places depending on what movie it's themed from. Some of the ideas may be to complicated if children want to help, but everything is managable. The Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast ideas are perfect for young girl parties, and The Lion King ideas are adorable. On the other hand the photographs are lovely.
Disneyana In Your Kitchen, On Your Bookshelf, On Your Plate!.......2002-01-23
Every grandmother should rush right out and get this charming book with wonderful, colorful Disney art on nearly every page and enchanting, but easy recipes that will appeal to children of all ages. Convenient ingredient AND equipment lists are written in a column beside each recipe. Many homes/kitchens will already have at hand the ordinary ingredients.
These Disney films head up each chapter: The Lion King, Cinderella, Aladdin, Dumbo, 101 Dalmatians, The Aristocats, Beauty and the Beast, A Bug's Life, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Fantasia. From Cream Puff Coaches to Peanut Butter Mice this book will entertain, delight and amaze you!
Making Dsiney Magic in Your Kitchen.......2001-08-02
From realistic ýThe Beastýs Enchanted Gumdrop Rosesý to whimsical ýFrozen Francis Far-from-Feminine Ladybugsý, youýre sure to find something appealing to both eye and palette.
I donýt have children but I felt like a kid as I stood in my kitchen shaping little ýCanine Crunchiesý. Though the recipe makes 10-12 bones, I only ended up with 8 to show for my efforts. This probably had something to do with my desire to sample a few to make sure they were up to my strict standards. I couldnýt help it. They were good!
These are delicious and fun recipes. They are well thought out though some of them could do with better instructions. By trying to be simplistic, a few recipes sometimes leave out what may seem like obvious steps or are not as descriptive as they could be.

Zebra Finch Manual.......2007-06-12
This book is a complete owner's manual for people who own zebra finches . It is an excellent book and arrived on the date projected .
little book.......2005-07-25
This is an excellent book but it is too short. I would have liked to have seen more information.
His chapter on habitat and distribution is great, it follows with behavior and flocks and colonies. He has interesting and useful pictures of the birds in the wild, but they are all on one page. You kind of say, ''oh,'' when it should have been ''wow.''
It had tremendous potential but it seems like someone took a scissor and hacked off too much original content.
The illustrations are great, and they are all of Zebra finches. He includes drawings and pictures of aviaries, and other housing options, suggestions galore.
Then, in the section on ''health care,'' someone cut and pasted a picture of a canary having its nails clipped.
It places a caption, ¨trim your bird's nails carefully to avoid injury.¨ It just seems to scream ''aw to hell with it, we gotta press.'' Bad, shabby attitude.
... Hopefully trim your Zebra's nails more carefully, than the guys who edited the book would have!
The canary shown is also twice the size of a Zebra finch. The author suggests holding the little claw up to a light, to not cut into a blood vessel; far from what the picture demonstrates.
Despite the shortcomings, which appear to be out of the author, Hans Jurgen Martin's control, ¨Zebra Finches¨ is an informative, fun read. His love for these little birds is so clear, and just as contagious.

This book has given me all the information I needed to help in raising my finches. I enjoy it and refer to it everyday.
Maybe the best book for the new Zebra Finch owner........1999-03-30
In just a short 76 pages Hans-Jurgen Martin touches on all aspects of Zebra husbandry. The information goes somewhat beyond beginners' interest and includes an excellent introduction to genetics. The quality of photos in the book are excellent,I only wish these nice photos where dedicated to more photos of the various varieties of Zebras instead of nests and types of seed. I find it to be a valuable quick reference source and it sparks further interest in the care and breeding of Zebras. I would highly recommend it to anyone who keeps Zebra Finches. Kathy Dezern
VERY INFORMATIONAL.......1999-03-01
we purchased zebra finches without much knowledge on that breed, nor of any breed. we found this book to be very informational in regards to nesting, feeding, enviroment, breeding, etc... it is a book that you can always reference to. thank you to the author for writing this book for the advanced as well as the novice. a book you will truly enjoy.

Book Description
Immediately after the Holocaust, it seemed inconceivable that a Jewish community would rebuild in Germany. What was once unimaginable has now come to pass: Germany is home to one of Europe’s most vibrant Jewish communities, and it has the fastest growing Jewish immigrant population of any country in the world outside Israel. By sharing the life stories of members of one Jewish family—the Kalmans—Y. Michal Bodemann provides an intimate look at what it is like to live as a Jew in Germany today. Having survived concentration camps in Poland, four Kalman siblings—three brothers and a sister—were left stranded in Germany after the war. They built new lives and a major enterprise; they each married and had children. Over the past fifteen years Bodemann conducted extensive interviews with the Kalmans, mostly with the survivors’ ten children, who were born between 1948 and 1964. In these oral histories, he shares their thoughts on Judaism, work, family, and community. Staying in Germany is not a given; four of the ten cousins live in Israel and the United States.
Among the Kalman cousins are an art gallery owner, a body builder, a radio personality, a former chief financial officer of a prominent U.S. bank, and a sculptor. They discuss Zionism, anti-Semitism, what it means to root for the German soccer team, Schindler’s List, money, success, marriage and intermarriage, and family history. They reveal their different levels of engagement with Judaism and involvement with local Jewish communities. Kalman is a pseudonym, and their anonymity allows the family members to talk with passion and candor about their relationships and their lives as Jews.
