Book Description
Here together for the first time on CD is the continuation of Kinsey Millhone’s adventures…
"D" Is for Deadbeat
Alvin Limardo hires Kinsey Millhone to deliver $25,000 to a fifteen-year-old kid. Seems pretty straightforward; or it would have been if Limardo wasn’t a phony. Burned but determined, Kinsey finds Limardo–dead. Finding the killer will be a tough assignment, but not as tough as making a stiff pay his debts.
"E" Is for Evidence
When Kinsey is framed for insurance fraud, she is expecting a complicated, tiring investigation. But she’s not counting on the involvement of her long-departed ex-husband. And she’s certainly not counting on murder.
"F" Is for Fugitive
Kinsey must prove the innocence of a man already found guilty of murder. Bailey Fowler, escaped convict of a crime he swears he didn’t commit, is picked up on a fluke of mistaken identity and turns to Kinsey to keep him from being sent back to prison, by finding the real killer.

Good sci-fi with a theological angle .......2006-08-22
This novel is the introductory portion of the trilogy called the "Quintara Marathon" and should be read together with "The Run of Chaos Keep" followed by "The Ninety Trillion Fausts." To get the full impact, read all three together in sequence.
The primary antagonists are the Quintara, an ancient highly advanced race resembling every human legend of demons. They were defeated a long time ago by three factions of equally advanced empires: fanatics led by giant brains (Mizlaplan), post modern supra-plantetary capitalists led by robots (Exchange), and amoral warlords led by body snatchers (Mychol).
Each empire fields a team to investigate Quintara activity. The story follows the human characters on each team.
The science fiction makes use of higher-dimensional geometric figures, tieing that into ancient symbols like pentragrams and the Seal of Solomon. Additional tension and conflict is present in the viewpoint conflicts between each empire, and the corruption inherent in each. The characters at times wonder if the Quintara can be worse than their own societies.
The books themselves are well paced with interesting characters and lots of action. Don't expect deep philosophy, but do expect a good entertaining story. If the religious angle offends you, why are you reading science fiction in the first place?
If you are totally new to Chalker, his Flux & Anchor novels and first two Wellworld Trilogies are better stories. The Quintara Marathon is solid, but not his best work.
Decent Action and plenty to chew on- but ultimately shallow.......2001-07-31
As the characters spiral their way down through the depths of hell and toward the ultimate destiny of a fragmented humanity, so we as readers spiral through revelation and enjoyable action sequences in an exciting mix of horror, sci-fi, and myth. It tells the tale of three teams from rival empires. Their quest is one of discovery- to uncover the secrets of a race of Demons. Their only clues along this journey are the myths and beliefs of their own cultures that must have experienced the Demons first hand thousands of years in the past. The twist of this story is it's challenge of religious beliefs by the standards of science fiction. While Chalker strips away shrouds of biblical dogma, he quickly replaces it with sci-fi rationale. While this does have the effect of revealing the wizard as an old man behind a curtain, it validates the underpinnings of religion by giving substance to human myths. Whether you are deeply religious, anti-religious or just plain neutral on the subject like me, I think you'll enjoy the author's attempt to create a fantasy world where the tensions between science and theology can be bridged with rational observation. As we grow up in a society whose cultural beliefs are constantly challenged by the rigor of science, this book gives us a chance to look back to Sunday School and ask, "What if science could validate and explain all that bible mumbo-jumbo?" Such questions are answered with the help of characters representing three distinct viewpoints- Theological fanatics (The Mizlaplan Team), Capitalist businessmen (Exchange), and amoral opportunists (Mychol). Each viewpoint is further enhanced by each team-member who give the extreme, moderate, and even doubter's mindsets to each philosophy. This spectrum of viewpoints gives the reader a whole set of opinions to take with the plotline.
Unfortunately, this book cannot survive on ideas alone. His Empires, though intriguing, are one dimensional and thus unbelievable. ...P>All that having been said, the series is a quick read sure to entertain you. If you go into it expecting depth, you'll be disappointed. But if you expect something to keep you turning pages while waiting for your flight to dock, it is right up your alley.
...it's a very good book...but..........2000-10-05
Don't get me wrong...the book was well writen and all... there is alot of story between the different empires of the book and the character had...some life in them. It the only thing wrong was the way some of the story...like timing... could have been way better writen... like the polt twists. Some of them were way to predictable. But this is a very small problem that most people will over look...a very good book.
Only Mr. Chalker can take 3 ideas and give them one goal!.......1999-05-17
Mr.Chalker's story is a winner! Demons at Rainbow Bridge is a story about three empires with three different philosophy. Until they meet the Demons at Rainbow bridge and its crash and burn from on in.
Good introduction.......1999-03-13
Though this book introduces some facinating characters from various species of space-faring races (something Chalker is excellent at as shown in his Well World series) the more than 300 pages is only a prelude setting the stage for the other two books in the series. As an introduction it is good but can not by any means stand on its own as a novel. If the publisher will not do a full 900 page book to contain the whole story the cover should warn the reader that this is only an overture in no uncertain terms. This is not to diminish Chalker but only the publishing mentality.

Pregnancy should be a time of wonder and hope, but these days, it's associated more often with paranoia. Dr. Glade Curtis is keenly aware of the anxieties heaped upon expectant women: he has written several pregnancy-related books. So while he covers pretty much any topic that an expectant mom might be concerned about, he does not overload the reader with extraneous information or horror stories that can be found in that other best-selling pregnancy guide. In this completely revised and updated edition, Curtis describes the physical developments from weeks 1 through 40--or 41 or 42!--such as the size and weight of the baby, emotional changes in the mother, typical medical tests offered, and nutritional requirements. (The iron found in prenatal vitamins may exacerbate morning sickness, he writes, because iron supplementation is usually not needed until the final trimester.) It is too bad that Dr. Curtis does not recommend more alternative-medicine approaches for treating common pregnancy discomforts. In the chapter covering Week 8, he rightly describes sciatic-nerve pain as excruciating, but does not advise yoga or chiropractic treatments for its relief. However, he *is* hip to the use of doulas, or labor coaches, he encourages breastfeeding, and includes numerous tips for making your partner feel included in what should be a thrilling experience for you both. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
A totally revised and expanded new edition of the best-selling doctor-authored pregnancy book--the only one organized week by week.
Because of the rapid rate of change to both mother and baby, doctors refer to a pregnancy in increments of weeks, not months or even trimesters; expectant mothers look for changes and compare the details of their pregnancies based on the same weekly schedule. The best-selling Your Pregnancy Week by Week doles out focused information in this medically appropriate way, making it the most mom-recommended pregnancy guide on the market.
Now carefully brought up-to-date, this expanded Fifth Edition will also be the most medically current and comprehensive pregnancy guide available. Always reliable and now re-designed to be even more accessible, weekly chapters include illustrations, descriptions of baby's growth and developmental milestones, information about a mother's average weight gain and what she might be feeling or becoming aware of, and the medical testing that corresponds to the week in question. New features include:
* Information on cutting edge obstetric technologies-from 3D ultrasound to pre-natal genetic testing
* The very latest diet, nutritional and fitness recommendations for expectant mothers
* A new chapter devoted to overdue (post-term) pregnancies
* An expanded 15-page glossary of pregnancy and childbirth terms
* A handy Due Date Prediction Calendar
Customer Reviews:
This is THE book to get you through pregnancy!.......2007-10-04
This is a great book! I read it during my first pregnancy and I loved it! Now I'm in my second pregnancy 5 years later and I'm reading it again! It's so much better than What to Expect. This book takes you through each week of pregnancy, gives you illustrations of the baby, tells you what your body and baby are going through, gives nutritional tips, tells you about all the tests and possible complications of pregnancy, and so much more! This book and The Girlfriends' Guide are the only two books any pregnant woman needs to get her through pregnancy. I ended up donating all my other books to goodwill.
Conservative & Out of Date - Don't Trust Your Health to Them!.......2007-09-16
I was shocked at the out-of-date medical information in this text. They have a very strong warning about home births, about how dangerous they are. I agree that if you have complications, you should not have a home birth. But many thousands of women have home births without any problems.
What really got me was their total misinformation on episiotomies (the cut that doctors used to do to prevent you from tearing when the baby came out). They argue that episiotomies are better than natural tearing. They are completely wrong, relying on out-of-date and conservative medical myths. The US government just did a review of many studies on the issue, and their advice? The headline of their report read, "Routine Use of Episiotomy in Uncomplicated Births Offers No Benefits to Women." In fact, episiotomies tend to leave women with more pain and more sexual side effects than natural tearing. Of course, in some small amount of cases, an episiotomy is better, but in the large majority of cases, they are not.
I would not trust my health to this book. It is tainted with old-school medical advice that simply is not backed up by research. They need to read up on the latest studies and get with the times!
Very random information.......2007-09-13
I like this book shows actual size of the baby at certian stages, but there is a lot of random information put in the book. The info is kind of thrown in, not in any order. I know the updated version is different but this one is kind of confusing. I did not care for it too much.
This book tries to scare you!.......2007-08-27
I bought this book because I liked the little pictures it shows each week of the babies development. However, I would NOT recommend this book to another mom-to-be, because there is way too much information which appears to be included just to scare us. There are things like "What if you get cancer while pregnant", too much emphasis on rare pregnancy complications, and it tells you that normal pregnancy symptoms like nausea might mean you have appendicitis! We pregnant women are anxious and stressed out enough; we dont need books like this making us more so.
Disappointing.......2007-08-26
I bought this book during my first pregnancy. I started reading it during my second and stopped. To be honest, I got a lot more useful information out of the "What to Expect" book. This book seems way more medically focused, and I think it is a little more out of date on some medical issues. I must admit I did not read the book all the way through--I got to like 12 weeks. But I stopped because frankly it added very little and left much out IMO compared to "What to Expect" which I got a lot more useful information from. Buy the "What to Expect" book instead--you will get much more out of it.

Delicious, healthy, simple - what more could you want??.......2007-08-01
This cookbook has quickly become my favorite, default reference in the kitchen. Every recipe I've tried has been easy, delicious and healthy! I love the information included about why we crave certain foods, and healthy alternatives for all kinds of occasions - lunch, snacks, needing a carb fix, etc. I own several cookbooks but this is the one I keep going back to.
Informative cookbook with excellent, tasty recipes.......2006-09-18
This cookbook is one of the best I've come by for people who have average to above average cooking experience and who are looking for very tasty, healthy meals. Everything I've made from this book has come out excellent and the ingredients are common to most cooks' kitchens, so you don't have to search extensively for exotic spices, etc. With some slight modifications, I have been able to improve a number of these recipes based on my individual tastes. I'm particularly fond of the soups and find that they are extremely quick and easy to make.
Enjoy and eat well!

When choosing fabric for home furnishings, most people play it safe and decide on subtle patterns or plain colors, leaving a room looking rather bland. The Pattern Book urges us to be braver and bolder in our choice of fabrics and patterns by helping us practice the art of mixing and matching patterns and colors. The book explains the theories behind successful pattern mixing and, most importantly, provides pattern swatches so that readers can begin putting the theories into practice.
The bulk of the book is the 120 fabric swatches contained inside. They're grouped by pattern type, based on the most natural and likely combination of patterns: large-scale and floral fabrics, stripes, and textured or small patterns. The swatch groups lie side by side for easy matching. Readers can flip through the swatches to choose the colors, textures, and patterns that appeal to them and that coordinate with the other fabrics they've chosen. All of the fabrics shown in the book can be purchased using the contact details on the back of each swatch but, as the book points out, the object is to make homeowners feel confident enough to be able to match any fabric patterns, not just the ones in the book.
The book provides tips on using the various patterns to best effect. For instance, textured patterns are a safe bet for the "pattern timid" because they add only a slight, raised pattern without overwhelming with color. Homeowners with a small room would do better to use large-scale patterns, rather than small patterns, to make the room seem cozier. The book also lays down a set of ground rules that will provide nervous beginners with some helpful guidelines. By using The Pattern Book, homeowners should begin to feel comfortable, even excited, about combining patterns in their home. --Kris Law

Customer Reviews:
good for getting a feel for different pattern combinations.......2000-03-04
I was really excited when I ordered the book, because I thought the idea of showing how different patterns looked with each other was a great idea. However the text was very confusing, and still didn't give me a clue on how to mix and match fabrics. The author divided all patterns into 3 categories which I felt were too broad and rather vague, and the samples shown in the book aren't to scale. How can you really mix and match fabrics without proper scale? The book that I really like is "Fabrique Technique," as it gives you all the elements, such as scale, contrast, texture, etc. to use with each fabric selected. It also gives a "formula" for using multiple fabrics in a room, with worksheets and stickers. .

Book Description
Half-Hispanic, half-Yaqui Indian, and an orphan, Roy Benavidez fought his way out of poverty and bigotry to serve with the U.S. Army’s elite—the Airborne and the Special Forces. Seriously wounded in Vietnam, he was told he would never walk again. Benavidez not only conquered his disability but demanded to return to combat.
On his second tour, when twelve of his comrades on a secret CIA mission in Cambodia were surrounded by hundreds of North Vietnamese regulars, Benavidez volunteered to rescue them. Despite severe injuries suffered in hand-to-hand combat, Benavidez personally saved eight men. His actions ensured his everlasting place as one of the great heroes of the war. In February 1981, President Reagan awarded him the Medal of Honor.
Customer Reviews:
Duty, Honor, Country.......2004-04-17
I met MSG Benavidez in 1990 while stationed in NJ. I had the distinct honor of driving him around for 2 days while he was there to speak, and that experience will stay with me for the rest of my life. One thing that I remember is him saying that 22 years later metal fragments were still occasionally working their way out of his body.
I still have his picture hanging on my wall after 14 years. I have an extremely short list of hero's; Roy Benavidez holds the top slot...
The Voice of a True American Hero.......2003-05-13
MSG Roy Benevidez was an amazing person, and that's putting it mildly. In spite of his fearful wounds from his first tour-of-duty and doctors saying that he would never walk again, he went on to become an elite member of the US Army Special Forces. His actions in combat showed him to be brave, his actions after made him a hero. Roy Benevidez was not out to gain glory and status from his actions, nor did he ever look for pity because of his humble upbringings. Though his ancestry was Mexican-Indian and Hispanic, he always said, "I prefered to think of myself simply as an American." He had a "never say die" attitude, and strong sense of morals. He possesed neither vanity nor false modestly, and he served as an example of what one can accomplish in a lifetime. Sadly, MSG Roy Benevidez died in 1998. He truely was an American Hero! May God bless his soul.
A True American Hero.......1999-12-22
I was privileged to know and very fortunate to have served with Roy Benavidez. His entire life was a struggle: from his difficult early years in Texas, to his incredible struggle to remain in the Army after his first tour's devastating wounds, to his amazing jump status qualification after the doctors told him he would never walk again, to his incredible heroism that resulted in the MOH (but only after another long battle with the bureaucracy that refused to acknowledge heroism at a time that the country was trying to "forget" Vietnam) and finally, the redemption that came on the White House steps with the MOH ceremony, the "last" MOH given out for Vietnam service. I am glad that Brassey's has put the book out in paperback so that kids can read about Roy and learn to never give up. God Bless You, Roy.
Excellent book, I could not put it down........1999-10-02
Roy Benevidez must have been an incredible person. The feelings and thoughts he shares through out the book shows that behind "The Medal" there was a very real individual. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what really goes through the mind of a hero.
