Book Description
Fresh from the curious and unsettling matter of Caroline Bingley (as related in Pride and Prescience), Mr. and Mrs. Darcy have every intention of enjoying their still newlywed status at Pemberly until they are confronted with another mysterious situation, .... one ofSuspense and SensibilityElizabeth Darcy and her beloved husband Fitzwilliam are taking on the responsibility of finding a suitable suitor for Elizabeth's younger sister Kitty, thereby assuring her a proper place in society. The angels smile on the young and a perfect match is found, and wedding plans are soon under way. Suddenly a change in personality occurs in Kitty's soon to be model husband-a change so striking as to jeopardize not just the Darcys' social standing, but their lives as well.A mysterious mirror, an insidious reprobate from the past, and matters far beyond the social circles around Pemberly all come into play in a dangerous puzzle, where the consequences may be the exchange of a soul for a soul.Once again the Darcys take center stage as the Regency era's answer to The Thin Man's Nick and Nora, searching for truth between tea times, amid the social whirl of Jane Austen's England.

First think of a story.......2007-07-23
How disappointed I was in Suspense and Sensibility, third of the Bebris continuations of Elizabeth and Darcy written by Bebris which I have read!! The first two thirds of the book seemed reasonable because I couldn't believe Bebris would take the cop-out route and choose to tie up what could have been a very rational, concrete, Austen-style story, with a horrid, implausible, supernatural, uncreative, unreasonable wrap-up! If she tries to continue with Darcy and ELizabeth in future writings I hope she first thinks through a decent story before she bothers picking up her pen.
A mystery and a sequel to Pride and Prejudice in one book!.......2007-07-07
This is a series where the newly married Mr and Mrs. Darcy stumble into these mysteries. This is the second book by Carrie Bebris, the first one is Pride and Prescience. In this book the Darcy's take Kitty to London in hopes of find her a husband. She falls for a Mr. Harry Dashwood, son on Fanny and John Dashwood from Jane Austen's Sense and Sensiblity, I love how the author entertwined the characters from these two beloved novels. However, this author also introduces Sir Frances Dashwood, a real person who lived around the time of Jane Austen and decided to make him related to the Dashwoods from Sense and Senseiblity. He was infamous for his debauchery and bad deeds. How does he become involved in this novel, you ask? Well the young Harry Dashwood, engaged to Kitty Bennet, brings a mysterious mirror and portrait of his infamous relative into his abode. Then he himself takes on a different behavior, is he idolizing his relative? Is her really a blackguard? What does this do to the Darcy's?
What a great page turner. You will be reading about your favorite characters from Pride and Prejudice as well as Sense and Sensibilty.
Sense and Sensibility.......2007-07-04
I'm a Jane Austen fan so this was a nice read and interesting as the characters ring true.
Love this series!.......2007-06-20
Fast read. As hokey as it sounds to read Jane Austen inspired mysteries, this series is remarkably entertaining and well-written. Love the originality of the story and how true the characters are to Jane Austen's originals. Well worth the puchase. Buy one, you gotta buy them all, as you'll be hooked.
Simply wonderful.......2007-01-20
Carrie Bebris has done it again ... better. SUSPENSE & SENSIBILITY is an unputtdownable read until you've devoured the last page. Her use of history -- both the history of the times and the history of Austen's characters -- is inspired. And she keeps the focus precisely where Austen kept it -- on the characters and the fascinating world they inhabit.
Once again, Bebris has blended elements of the supernatural into the story, which only enhances the personalities she is following. The result is gripping, interesting and thoroughly in step with the original Austen.
What I like even more about this second book in the series is that unlike the first, PRIDE & PRESCIENCE, there is much less action than there is interaction. (In P&P, there was a harrowing carriage accident, among other things, much at odds with the usual drawing room comedies.) This one turns on the characters' interactions in ballrooms, teas, and other quiet pastimes of the era -- but you simply can't stop reading.
If Jane Austen is your cup of tea, then drink deeply of SUSPENSE & SENSIBILITY. And when you're done, put it down with a sigh -- and reach for Bebris's third installment, NORTH BY NORTHANGER -- which so far (I haven't finished it yet) is even better!

a disappointing adventure in the land of confusion.......2007-05-10
This book started out slow, but picked up in speed after the first 100 pages. By that point, it became a whirling confusion with different narrators and time lines. Saberhagen seems to enjoy these time paradoxes and overlaps employed in the book, but they lacked believability. All the jumps made it difficult to give time for proper character development. If given some more time and a few hundred additional pages, this book could work. As it is now, it was a bit contrived.
Merlin's Bones.......2006-12-18
In 5th Century Britian a small carnaval troupe is chased by a vengeful warlord into an abandoned castle. There young Amby finds he is able to communicate with the ghost of the famous magician Merlin from King Aurthur's court. He and a band of adventurers are charged with a quest through the mists of time to protect Merlin's Bones. In the not too distant future Elanie Brusen has strange visitors as well who are very interested in a machine that is apperently capable of time travel. Eventually Elaine and Amby's paths cross, as well as Lancealot, Morgan Le Fey, the Fisher King, and the mad Mordred in a fight to help Arthur and restore Camalot, or destroy it forever.
I have read Saberhagan's "Faces of the Gods" books and found them entertaining, and so I was expecting similer magic with a book based on the Arthurian Legends. But what I got was a wild plot that is so unweildy that it didn't make much since. It has to do with time travel, multiple incarnations of people, and a strange trip into the fairy realm that was more confusing that magicly mystical. I am not entirely sure what exactly happened at the end, but I am peretty sure that the plot did not really resolve, most of the characters involved ended up at the end right where they were at the beginning.
The characters were in and of themselves not too interesting, with too much Hakon, not enough Amby, and nowhere near enough of the classic characters like Morgan, Mordered or especially Merlin. Well, Saberhagan is a hit or miss writer, when he writes good he is very good, when he writes bad, it is barely readable. The action is slow, the fight scenes are just glanced over. This one is not really worth reading.
Could have been better, too many loose ends.......2003-01-13
The writer, who I was previously never heard of must have been hoping to write a sequel because there were so many loose ends! Someone typed in the reviews that Saberhagen has had "trouble" writing endings - I see that as not a problem because he didn't really write an ending! I like the others found the jump from the future to Amby to Bran and Hakon not so much confusing, but distracting without having much to pull them together expept at the very end. Who, by the way is the Fisher King? I never figured that one out either but I did not spend long reading this book because it was not as interesting as I hoped that it would be. Pick it up if you have the time - the basic plot of the story is fine, the characters (for the most part) interesting, and the twists worth reading - if you prepare yourself not to be thoroughly pleased with the "un"ending.
Solid but not magical.......2001-12-14
I agree with the reviewer who praised Saberhagen's ability to juggle plots and multiple storylines but criticized the author's ability to end his books satisfactorily. That's the case here. FS sets the stage and introduces the characters quite skillfully (though he has a medieval character referring to a 'sandwich') and stage-manages the action with aplomb.
But but but. FS really loves time-warps and time-bends, having characters disappear and reappear in other guises, and this story is lousy with them. To the point that he seems to be indulging himself with unhknotting these little puzzles he's created. As with his Dracula books, when Merlin's not around, you find yourself waiting for him to arrive.
The triple-climax in the last 50 pages kind of goes all over the place and the Northman who narrates part of the story in the book's latter half disappears completely--did he die? Wha' happened?
Sturdily constructed but not magical.
Extremely disappointing.......2001-11-28
I've always felt Saberhagen's weakness was in writing endings. He almost always does a great job of shifting points of view and keeping multiple plot lines suspended simultaneously, but his conclusions often feel abrupt to me (Empire of the East was a notable exception).
The first half of Merlin's Bones is perfectly entertaining, a well-constructed set-up and development. But suddenly it's as though Saberhagen forgot how to tell a story and is reduced to summarizing the action. It's quite bizarre. I finished the book, but I'm not sure why.

***C.L.U.T.Z. is a great kids science fiction book.......2005-03-02
I enjoyed reading Clutz because it was a book set in the 22nd-century, so I had to imagine what it is like in the future. The setting includes an eleven-year-old boy named Rodney Pentax, his dog, and a great deal of fun and mishap caused by a robot named Clutz.
Clutz is the Pentax's new housekeeper, but he does not do a very good job of it. Everything he does is a disaster. He burns food, he crashes into things, he can't clean the furniture and can't fix anything he breaks.
The problem is that Rodney loves Clutz. Clutz
is a good friend and very generous to Rodney, but his parents do not want him around if he cannot take care of the house. Rodney's parents give him one week to turn Clutz into the best housekeeper.
After one week, Clutz was still a terrible housekeeper. Rodney and his dog run away because his parents begin trying a new Butler Robot, and kick Clutz out of the house. Rodney and his dog find Clutz and take him back to Rodney's house. Mr. and Mrs. Pentax have been worried sick about Rodney when he ran away. Rodney's parents decided they would accept Clutz because Rodney loved Clutz so much. Clutz said "It feels good to be home."

Character Sketch
The main character of Clutz is Clutz! Clutz is a robot whose name stands for Combined Level Unit/ Type Z. Clutz likes to believe that he is no good. In the book, Rodney a little boy, who Clutz works for, was having a conversation about how Clutz was always running into things such as lamps, telecommunicators, and other stuff. Then Clutz stated, he was a failure. During the story, Clutz becomes friends with his master, Rodney. They have long talks together, they play moonball together, they also laugh together. Clutz looks like CP-3O off of Star Wars a bit. He is gold, tall, and one thing to notice him by, is a spring that always bounces up and down, and down and up.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
Nancy Baggett went on a culinary journey in search of the best American cookies. Amazed by the remarkable repertoire of American bakers, Baggett spent several years researching and baked nearly 30,000 cookies for The All-American Cookie Book. Every American cookie you can think of is here--more than 150 of them--from luscious Black Bottom Mini Brownie Cups and chewy Chocolate Thumbprint Crackles to Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies and crisp, spicy Old-Fashioned Gingerbread Cookies. More-unusual regional favorites include Savannah Chocolate Chewies, Chocolate Whoopie Pies from Pennsylvania, and Floridian Ambrosia Cookies made with coconut and pineapple. Avid bakers will appreciate the bits of cookie lore and history in this brilliant collection. Baggett also gives interesting insight into how American cookies evolved, and how different ingredients and techniques were introduced. Mouthwatering photographs tempt and delectable descriptions convince you to try nutty, fruity, chocolaty concoctions, every one of them made in America. --Leora Y. Bloom
Book Description
For this trailblazing collection of America's favorite cookies, Nancy Baggett crisscrossed the nation, visiting small-town bakeries, chic urban cookie boutiques, rural inns, bed-and-breakfasts, farmers" markets, and the homes of locally renowned cooks. She combed through community cookbooks and searched out long-lost heirloom recipes, sure-handedly reworking every recipe in her own kitchen. THE ALL-AMERICAN COOKIE BOOK celebrates regional gems from every corner of the country: Pennsylvania Dutch Soft Sugar Cookies, New York Black and Whites, New Mexican Biscochitos, Key Lime Frosties from Florida, and Mocha Espresso Wafers from Seattle. A sophisticated hazelnut chocolate sandwich cookie that was the closely guarded secret of an Oregon hostess is here, and so is a delightfully crisp (and easy to roll out) old-fashioned gingerbread cookie recreated from a handwritten 1880 notebook. Homespun classics abound: Chocolate Whoopie Pies, Caramel Apple Crumb Bars, Chocolate Chunk Brownies, and Caramel-Frosted Brown Sugar Drops. The collection also features devastatingly delicious contemporary creations like Chewy Chocolate Chunk Monster Cookies and Cranberry-Cherry Icebox Ribbons. For children and adults alike, one of the most exciting chapters will be the lavishly illustrated "Cookie Decorating and Crafts," which includes everything from simple projects like Christmas cookies and Chocolate Gingerbread Bears to an elaborate gingerbread house. As Nancy Baggett tells the story of America's heritage, she slips in fascinating bits of history, showing the evolution of our homegrown baking traditions.

Delicious cookies and excellent instruction.......2006-09-01
This is a wonderful book for both beginning and advanced bakers. A lot of thought and careful detail went into this book. There are several pictures, a very clear type face, extremely well written instructions, fun facts about the history of baking, and more. Plus it is loaded with tips throughout on how to improve your baking. I've carried several ideas over to different recipes. The recipe I keep coming back to is called chewy chocolate chunk monster cookies. Need I say more? I even had a question and emailed the author herself. She emailed me back right away with a very gracious and thoughtful response.
EXCELLENT COOKIES!.......2006-01-19
I received this book two years ago for Christmas from my brother. I actually TRAVEL with this cookbook! Every single recipe I've tried is delicious. The snickerdoodle recipe is the best I've ever had and I get rave reviews each time I make them. From a person who bakes all the time, this book ranks very high on my list. GREAT GIFT!
GREAT COOKIES, GREAT BOOK.......2005-07-09
I collect baking and cookie books and this is one of the best. The recipes call for very basic ingredients, and are simple to make. Try the Homemade Ice Cream Bars, you will never want to eat another one of those cardboardy tasting ones again. I also loved the Butterscotch cookies (I used skor candy bits); they were very good, buttery and chewy.....and again, simple to make and so homey and old-fashioned. I also like the way the writer gives a bit of history on each recipe and it's interesting to see which States certain cookies are popular in. When I want to make cookies for my family or a school event, I refer to this great cookie book first. The kids love them and I know what's in them. A bit expensive, but worth it. Thank you Nancy Baggett for an overall great cookie book.
Not my favorite.......2005-04-03
Even though this book holds many, many cookie recipes, it is by far not my favorite of the many I own.
I have tried several of the recipes, and they are almost *all* too sweet for my likes. In comparison to similar cookie recipes in other books, they have 1.5 to 2 times as much sugar, which is just too much for my likes.
I would have liked to see more pictures of the listed recipes, because I find that inspiring, and last (but not least) i don't care for the author's tone at all. She seems to present herself as the one and only cookie expert, who has come to the 'best' recipes after 'professionally testing' the many recipes available, and I didn't appreciate that much, nor found it inspiring.
Informative cookbook filled with delicious recipes........2005-01-08
I agree with the other reviewers in that if I had to pick only one cookbook devoted to cookies, this would be it. I like to "read" cookbooks in my spare time -- to get ideas, to plan, to daydream about what I'd like to do if I had the time. This book is ideal for that. The photographs are gorgeous and every cookie is accompanied by a few paragraphs that give a few choice hints or a bit of history. And the recipes! They are so delicious I have to force myself not to keep making the same one over and over. If I have time, I try to make the Chewy Chocolate Chunk Monster cookies (she gives a very good tip on studding the cookies with chips that I've carried on to other recipes) and one new recipe. Every recipe comes with directions that are very thorough and Chapter One is actually entitled: Read This: How To Make Great Cookies Every Single Time. If you follow her directions and use good quality ingredients, I can assure you that you will be more than pleased with the results.

Where's the Maps?.......2004-05-19
The main reason I purchased the book was because I wanted the Hotel locations show on road maps. There isn't a single map in the entire book. For some reason I assumed this aide would be included in the printed version. In larger cites this would be a great help as I try to avoid going out of my way when traveling to find a place to stay. Its basically an outdated printed version of the Web site. Great to have along if your travel plans change and you have no internet connection but of limited use if you do.
A Great Start.......2004-02-17
We used this book (along with Petswelcome and the Internet) to help find accommodations for ourselves and our rambunctious German Shepherd puppy during a move across country. It was extremely helpful in finding possible places to stay in cities that we were not familiar with. Of course, we called all of the places to confirm that they took pets, the rules and the extra fees, before making a decision on any one place. Each place we ended up at was pretty well described in the book and our dog loved his first road trip!
Great Guide with Free On-Line Updates.......2004-01-25
We use the book often, and successfully because we take the authors' advice which is to call ahead and confirm that the property still takes pets. We also go to their website (www.petsonthego.com) to check for updates as well. This is the only pet travel guide, that we know of, to offer both a print version and online version for updates. It really makes it easy for us.
I work in the hospitality industry and know that hotels change policies on a whim -- I think Pets on the Go does a great job of responding to those changes by offering both an easy to use print guide with updated online information! Thanks.
Dated Information.......2003-11-19
I took this and another pet travel book on a cross country trip to my folks house with my dog. I found this to be the least useful, as many of the entries were wrong (it was a HoJo, not a Ramada as listed) and the information was wrong (there was a $10/night charge and the book didn't mention it). All in all I wasn't too impressed.
Pets on the Go -- Book and Website are a Perfect Combination.......2003-09-21
This book covers it all for us -- tells us about pet friendly places to stay, gives us the website addresses to check them out in advance and provides us with the details about pet policies and amenities. We use a combo of the book and the Pets on the Go website (www.petsonthego.com), as the book is easy to look through and carry with us, while the site has book updates and is packed with other information about pet travel trends, cool new hotels, and recreational activities.
Good find!

Book Description
A seminal surrealist text, revealing the astonishing and intimate workings of the mind of Salvador Dali, the eccentric polymath genius who became the living embodiment of the 20th century's most subversive, disturbing and influential art movement. This second volume of Dali's autobiography covers his life from 1952 to 1963, the time of amour fou for his wife Gala and their bizarre world travels. This is Dali's "rhinocerontic" period, and he preaches post-holocaustal gospels of nuclear mysticism and cosmogenic atavism leading to his painting of the Assumption and his film script, The Flesh Wheelbarrow. This new, expanded edition includes a brilliant revelatory essay on the importance of Dali's art to the 20th century by the seminal author J G Ballard. Illustrated throughout.
The only edition to buy. -- The London Times
Dali's paintings reveal in the most powerful form the basic elements of the Surrealist imagination: a series of equations for dealing with the extraordinary transformations of our age. Let us salute this unique genius. -- J G Ballard

Review on "Diary of a Genius".......2005-04-13
From 1952 to 1963, Salvador Dali kept a journal, a diary of his thoughts, creative reasoning's, and mindful tangents. In a matter of several hours and 186 pages, I feel as if I have delved far into the mind of a man whose entire life is either nonsense blathering of the brain or philosophical wonders reaching far beyond my own capacities of comprehension. While Diary of a Genius did not keep me in suspense, give me nightmares or have me in tears, the book did touch a part of my brain that doesn't get triggered very often, let alone four hours straight.
Dali writes daily entries into his diary discussing off-the-wall realizations, urges, drives, and adorations. One of the most interesting aspects of the book was to read the very intimate words of one of the most renowned surrealist painters in the world. Dali talks of his process in working on many pieces in a day-by-day account of his struggles and conquests in painting. He is fueled mainly by his love for his wife Gala, but also by the incisive apprehension and dissection of oddities accumulating in his head. He talks of his bowel movements, his intrigue in Hitler, his subconscious representation of rhinoceros horns, and his love of elephant skulls in the summer.
Diary of a Genius was, in short, an interesting read that kept me entertained for a short period of time. I am much more knowledgeable of Dali himself and will look at his work now with a new understanding of the peculiar man behind the brush. I would definitely recommend this book to any psychology student looking to analyze the intricate workings of a madman's ways and fantasies of the mind. I would also recommend this book to any fan of Salvador Dali, surrealism, or art in general. I would suggest, and I believe that Dali would agree with me, that this book be read while sitting on the toilet.
How Dalinian.......2005-04-08
Have you ever displayed elephant skulls in front of your home or imagined being a fish, or find yourself fascinated with your own excrement? One very eccentric man did all these things, Mr. Salvador Dali, one of the most famous artists of the Surrealism time. His book turned out to be a bit like his paintings, random and irrational. I felt as if I was reading the incoherent ramblings of a man with a slight case of narcissism. This at times, made the book somewhat difficult to follow. But, I found it to be true "Dalinian" as he would say. Reading about the thought process of some of his work was most intriguing. He seemed to find the "art" in some of the most awkward places. I would suggest familiarizing yourself with his paintings before reading this book. When he spoke of placing things on crutches, using Christian iconography, or drawing inspiration from Gala, you can have a visual idea in your head as you read. The book, however, had very little on the thoughts behind much of his other works. He wrote more about his thoughts on everyday life, popular people of the time, and his wife Gala. The man seemed to really know himself and live his life by his own philosophies no matter how bizarre or what anyone else said. Whether this is how he truly was or lived to portray one huge publicity stunt for the sake of shock value, he is a man that must be recognized for his work. I have to admit, I would rather learn about him through his unique paintings than having to read his book.
Questions Answered. Well, Not Really..........2005-04-08
Diary of a Genius is a peak into the life of Salvador Dali. Mind you that this peak is VERY interesting, as the life of Salvador Dali was what a normal person would refer to as crazy. The introduction by JG Ballard is understandable and describes Dali's style as well as his psychopathology and the different phases of his art.
Most people who have hear the name, know of the man, or seen his art could probably make a well-informed assumption that the man is strange, but reading Diary of a Genius is the easiest way to confirm any suspicions that you might have. He surprises the reader on several occasions with the things that he says, most often discussing his own genius in an arrogant fashion or describing some of his twisted visions. Some entries into this diary, which covers Dali's life from 1952-1963, even discuss and describe his bathroom "activities" and their byproducts.
Dali reveals answers to some questions about himself, including thoughts behind the sky-bound mustache. The book also makes it known that he loved his wife, Gala. The book, in fact, makes this known a lot of times. His writing makes me think that many of the things he did to seem an outcast were simply to keep people talking about him. Dali was a master of hype, and this book either displays it, or truly shows that Dali was insane.
I am really not much of a reader, so it is rare that I read a book without falling asleep after ten minutes. Dali's diary was so interesting in its oddities that I found myself truly interested in what was being said. The associations that Dali creates are fascinating if you don't suspect him of trying to hard to live up to his self-title of a genius. I recommend the book to anyone who is interested in Dali, surrealism, Gala, feces, or psychology.
Diary of a Genius.......2005-04-08
If you have the patience and time to focus on all the wacky details that Salvador Dali has written, then this book will be an interesting and entertaining. For me, half of the overdramatic description is annoying and I really don't have an interest in reading. The best part of the book is what was left out as Dali's "Secret Life." With all the respect and love for Gala that Dali shows it makes me wonder if the secret life of his betrays Gala. There are anecdotes of wisdom, philosophy, and examples of pointless behavior, and somewhere in the words it's possible for anyone to relate to or share in a similar experience. Dali on the other hand you might think is just more warped than most. For example he writes about the intensity of kissing a loved one (Gala) in this way: "On awakening I kiss Gala's ear to feel with the tip of my tongue the thickness of the minuscule moulding on the lobe. At that moment I feel, all mixed in with my saliva, Picasso. Picasso, who is the most vital man I have ever known and who posses a birth mark on the lobe of his left ear." He tries to explain so many associations connecting his past to his family to the present to his feelings and his own thought. His mind must have always been racing to find meaning in absolutely everything encountered. That is what makes the Diary of a Genius a piece of work. It was fairly easy to read but exhausting at the same time because I felt exhausted for him. I guess there is no rest for the wicked ONE.

The most important guidance for Vajrayana.......2001-07-30
One has to read atleast 3 books written by H.V.Guenther before becoming familiar with his style of writing with liberal "free" translations. It is clear that Guenther is well versed in the Buddhist experience which can be understood beyond doubt from this book. All the four chapters in the part two(Tibetan sources)require a detailed study. I have collected the following treasures: "....we must develop a middle view and become convinced that our mind is of the nature of great bliss by thinking that all appearances are but the projections of our mind and that there is nothing existing in truth". "....to unite bliss with no-thing-ness means that our mind which is this great bliss becomes a mind which understands no-thing-ness. "to see no-thing-ness is the cognition that all things do not exist by virtue of a principle through which they are what they are". Embedded in these statements is the essence of the Vajrayana teaching. This book will be very useful for all serious seekers of the Buddha Dharma.

Praise for
Ralph Ellison
Emergence of Genius
"Dr. Lawrence Jackson's remarkable biography of Ralph Ellison is an essential contribution to the scholarship on one of the twentieth century's greatest writers. Painstakingly researched and exhaustive, this compelling portrait of Ellison clarifies his genius--and his intellectual era--for a new century."--Charles Johnson, National Book Award Winner and author of Middle Passage
"Lawrence Jackson's absorbing biography of Ralph Ellison makes a vital contribution to American literary history."--Ross Posnock, English Department, New York University, Author of Color and Culture: Black Writers and the Making of the Modern Intellectual
"Professor Lawrence Jackson's painstaking documentation of Ralph Ellison's early life and the beginning of his literary career provides a much needed resource for Ellison's readers and critics."--Horace Porter, author of Jazz Country: Ralph Ellison in America and Director of African Studies at the University of Iowa
"An eloquently written and exquisitely researched biography. There is nothing quite like it. Jackson breathes life into those hidden nooks and crannies of Ellison's youth that would later become cannon fodder for the grown Ellison's explorations. An utterly groundbreaking biography, the idea of Ralph Ellison will never be the same."--Jerry Watts, author of Heroism and the Black Intellectual: Ralph Ellison, Politics, and Afro-American Intellectual Life

A complete Ellison Bio.......2004-09-28
This biography is a must have for all Ellison fans. I could barely put it down to sleep!
Brilliant!.......2002-05-26
I loved this bio of Ellison, the first to be published, and its focus on the early years. The writing is top-notch and Jackson has clearly done exhaustive research to uncover an amazing amount of fascinating detail. Belongs in any reader's collection devoted to American and African American literature and history.
Ralph Ellison: Emergence of a Genius.......2002-05-15
This is the most detailed look at Ellison's life that I've seen. This biography covers his path from poverty in Oklahoma to becoming part of the literary elite in the early 1950's. The author examines Ellison's involvement in the black rights movement and his relationships with Langston Hughes and Richard Wright. From start to finish, this is a fascinating read.
