Another fast paced thriller from Gerritsen.......2007-10-04
I am a huge fan of Tess Gerritsen. This book is another great example of her intelligent and faced paced story-telling that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you haven't read any of her prior Rizzoli novels some of the character interaction may be confusing, but the story itself is great!
The story itself involves several murders which orignally seem very thinly connected, but as the pieces of the puzzle fall into place and each new murder is factored in, the way they are related will you leave you gasping in shock!
Top Notch Thriller.......2007-10-03
I am a fan of Tess Gerritsen and I like all her books but this is my favorite. I see some people didn't think it was 'up to her standards' but I disagree. I liked it because Gerritsen did a good believeable job putting together an interesting mystery. Also it had all my favorite ingrediants for mystery...high adventure, it was scary, it had good characters and so on. I would love to see this as a movie!

I was a bit letdown by the book. It certainly has its moments and the author writes well, it just wasn't quite up to standards.
The book does move fairly quickly and there were several chapters that held my interest more than others.

Jane Rizzoli, Boston homicide detective, gets called to one of the most gruesome crime scenes of her career. Along with Maura Isles, medical examiner, Jane and her fellow cops try to solve the clues left behind by this monster. But tragedy strikes again soon and this time it hits close to home. Gerritsen's sixth Rizzoli novel is formulaic at best. The plot is not particularly original and the pages turn rather slowly. To make matters worse, the reader cannot even get excited by the characters as they are all completely miserable in their personal lives and relationships which only serves to slow the plot farther. As a former big fan of Gerritsen and this series I am reluctant to write her off, but this novel did nothing but disappoint.
A Real Page Turner.......2007-09-07
This was my first Tess Gerritsen novel and I'm certainly glad I picked this one up. Two Thumbs up. I read this on a very long, boring plane ride and it made it seem like minutes. I was disappointed when I landed, couldn't wait to get to my hotel room to finish it.
Dr. Gerritsen knows her craft. The tension heats up on each page! Her characters are well developed, dialogue is superb and plot just rolls along to an explosive conclusion! I've already purchased two previous novels! Can't wait to dig in!

Jimmy and Coles stepfather might own the 'stone', but the real story begins when the boys go beyone the mines. This book will have you completely hooked by page 20. By page 50 you won't be able to put it down, and by page 100 you wish you could read faster. This is truly a mesmorizing and spellbinding story. I am amazed that this is Ryans first published book and I highly recommend it as your next book. I'm in my late forties. This book appeals to all age groups. It's definitely not just a kids fantasy book. Hope you enjoy it.

Lifesaver!.......2007-09-16
My doctor recently diagnosed me with diabetes in addition to my longstanding problem of high cholesterol and high triglycerides, which was also affecting my liver. I was quite overweight but didn't really care until that point - there's always tomorrow to lose it, right? He put me on a cholesterol and triglyceride lowering medicine and told me I needed to lose weight. This time I took him seriously, and I also read SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle. I started exercising (walking) and eating healthy by following these two books' recommendations. So far I've lost 31 pounds without feeling deprived or going on some weird diet. I feel great, my diabetes is well controlled, and my cholesterol, triglycerides and liver function are in terrific shape now. The Super Foods have found a permanent place in my diet, and exercise a permanent place in my lifestyle. Thanks to these two books I believe I've saved my life and will enjoy better health over the long term. I've sent them to my brother to help him make the changes he needs for the same reasons. IF YOU'RE A ROOKIE, YOU MUST READ THIS!!!.......2003-03-24
LeRoy Gross really hit the nail on the head when he wrote this book. It is an honest, straight-forward book on how to survive as a stockbroker at a major firm.
Gross cuts through the fluff by stating that all stockbrokers are salespeople first in the eyes of management. Therefore, you are expected to produce - IMMEDIATELY. And, he gives you the tools and techniques to produce immediately.
I liked the chapters where he talks about setting goals, having a clean desk, creating a product worksheet, having a hook when you cold-call and making marks on prospecting information. He gives valuable techniques to maximize selling time and reduce administrative, non-selling time.
I also liked his chapter on finding, moving and placing money. It is not enough to find people and transfer their assets: you also have to place their money so that it generates fees and repeat commission. He suggest covered calls, managed money, special situation stocks and one-time commission sales. He also touches on the fact that stockbrokers who depend on one-time commission sales, such as mutual funds, will continually have to find new clients. Not an appealing prospect when you are older.
I wish that I knew about this book when I was a rookie. It would have saved me countless hours of frustration and chaos. For all you rookies out there, if you don't like what Gross says in his book, you should think twice about going into the business.

Leroy Gross shares awesome tips, practical wisdom and straight advice on how to generate financial sales. He covers everything from goal-setting, planning your day, sales worksheets, money placement, prospecting, cold-calling, etc...
Even though the financial industry has changed a lot, the actual mechanics of working in a brokerage firm have not. Whether you call yourself a stockbroker, investment consultant, financial advisor, financial planner or whatever, you still have to bring in business and generate commissions and fees. This book will help dispel any romantic or idealistic notions of financial sales.
If you want to become a producer really fast, Leroy Gross will show you how to do it.
Pragmatic Companion to Warm, Fuzzy Advisor Books.......2001-04-30
Recently an A. G. Edwards branch manager told me the biggest misconception new financial advisors have is they don't understand the vital importance of salesmanship. This book is a needed companion to polished, warm & fuzzy financial advisor books like Nick Murray's "The Excellent Investment Advisor." Gross' book would help a rookie build a business from scratch. This book is the straight stuff, very much by-the-numbers. Written in 1988, it is dated at times, yet, still very valuable. This covers basics of running an office and building a client base. This book would be at its best combined with Murray's book mentioned above (or West & Anthony's "Storyselling for Financial Advisors") and Sy Harding's "Riding the Bear" (which would give one the market knowledge to be an effective advisor). The most fun activity book I have ever played with.......2003-04-18
I have never read a book or seen a movie about Anne of Green Gables but I am going to now. This activity book/dollhouse is so enjoyable to build that I am putting it together very slowly. This is like the very detailed punch out and put together books that I played with 30 and 40 years ago. It's pages are printed front and back so that you see a complete house inside and out. You even get to put walls in and an attic. It would be easy to assemble (with a little help) for a 7 or 8 year old but very fun for everyone above that age.
I would recommend using a small diameter glue stick and let it dry before proceeding to the next step.
Now I'm going to order another one for my older sister.
