Every Crooked Nanny.......2007-09-09
I love the Stephanie Plumb books so this remindes me of that style although i prefer Trocheck's Hizzy Fit and the Savanah books which where great. This series was funny and I went out and bought another one until Trocheck writes another current book. The mother is a hoot and I loved the other cleaning people. The story was a little light reading but perfect for the beach. The ex-cop thing is a little unbelievable.

this book is a great mystery and really the only problem I have with it and the writer is the crude language. I really don't think you need all that language just to sound authentic. Most people read to get away from real life. You don't have to have so much of that in the books as well. This is the only reason why I could not, in good conscience, give the book more than 2 stars. Sorry.

On a whim I picked up this book ~ and thought it was great!! I easily got caught up in the characters and can't wait to learn what Callahan, Edna and the crew are up to next!! As an educator, when I have the opportunity to read, I want it to be for the purpose of pure "fun", and that's what this series will be for me ~ nothing more than fun. Just enjoy it ~ that's what it's all about!!
Promising debut novel.......2007-04-20
Kathy Hogan Trocheck has created a feisty heroine in Callahan Garrity, a former cop who has started a cleaning agency called House Mouse. She is single and lives with her mother, a rather feisty lady herself. When none of her workers are available, Callahan takes on a job in a large house where she discovers that the owner is one of her former sorority sisters, Lilah Rose Beemish. When Lilah Rose's nanny, Kristee, is missing, she asks Callahan to help find her. They discover Kristee's body in a surprising place which implicates Lilah Rose's husband. As she begins investigating Kristee's life, Callahan discovers some very incriminating things about her. Add a few Mormons, a serious health problem for Callahan, and an extra-marital affair and you have an interesting and well-written cozy. This is the first book of a promising series.

The idea behind this story is right up my alley, but I was disappointed when I finished it. The story had so much promise, but it fell short with many avenues unexplored. Some of the words chosen felt like writing for writing's sake, rather than trying to paint the clearest picture possible for the reader. The characters were not consistent, so, to me, they were not very likable. Particularly the mom. She had no character development at all, and her role at the end felt contrived and unrealistic - which made me mad because it was difficult to read all the way to the end.
The author's intriguing historical note alleviated some of that, but only enough to go from one star to two. Much more time needed to be devoted to bring this story to it's true potential. It's a shame that didn't happen.
endymion spring while engaging lacks the richness of harry potter.......2007-06-27
Endymion spring is a interesting story regarding a secret lost book containing all answers to all questions. Two main characters emerge, Blake the modern day child who is searching for the book and Endymion a child living in the 1400's who has hidden it. There are of course terrible enemies for each child of the story, which each child has to overcome. It is able to bring both stories to a satisfactory ending but never gives you more than a hint of what the lost book contains. This gave me a little bit of a hollow feeling at the end, as if the book did not quite fulfill its full promise. Still it was otherwise an engaging read.

I enjoyed Endymion Spring alot. Like Philip Pullman's series, it's based in Oxford. I'm a girl and I still enjoyed it. Boys and girls should read this book. Go into the past with Endymion Spring as he discovers the book, and go into the future as blake witnesses the book's power. The goes from swithes from old Germany to Oxford as present. Trust me you'll enjoy this book very much

Endymion Spring is a great book with amazing descriptions by the author Matthew Skelton. There are some confusing parts but overall is good. I recommend this book for boys 12+.

I loved this book! It has a unique feel to it as well as a great story line. The book keeps you quessing ever step of the way. The way in which the story laces itself together to make the whole story is briliant! I definately name this as one of my favorites!

I wasn't sure if I should get this book. I almost felt like I could write the book on healthy meals for my family. But, the price was right and I am always looking for a new tip. I'm about half way through the book and am really enjoying it. The advice is good and realistic. And, yes, I have learned a few new tips.

This book was well organized, easy to read and understand, and gave good basic information. The healthy eating solutions are easy to implement in daily life. I learned some new things and remembered some things I already knew.

Directions for a Healthy Weight Family.......2006-05-22
I wasn't really sure what I was getting when I ordered this book. The book is based on a new program being piloted now by Weight Watchers. The program, in limited areas now teaches parents on how to encourage a "Healthy Weight" home. What surprised me is how different this program is from the one designed by Weight Watchers for adults as part of their nationally available program. For one, they strongly discourage parents from placing all but the most obese of children on a diet and then only with the close supervision of a physician.
The book trains parents on the "5 Simple Rules."
1. Focus on wholesom, nutritious foods.
2. Include treats.
3. Aim to keep nonhomework screen time at two hours (or less) per day.
4. Try to be active an hour per day.
5. The Rules apply to everyone in the home.
While that should tell you all you need to know about the program there is so much more. My daughter 4, does not currently have a weight issue, however as an over obese person since childhood I watch her closely to attempt to prevent her from having the same weight issues I have. I was shocked to learn all of the things I am doing wrong. Everything from what snacks/treats I give her to forcing her to clean her plate, and at least a dozen other things.
One of the things I loved about this book it there was no encouragement to make drastic life altering adjustments to your life. In fact, the book encourages gentler simple steps your family can carry out. It doesn't tell you what order to complete the rules in, but to start with the ones you know you can do. The book offers real life concerns and solutions that even the most out of shape family can take to heart.
The book also discourages you from weighing your children more than when they are at the physician's office or even discussing weight in front of them. If anyone in your house struggles with their weight this book is a must have. I wish it had been available to my parents when I was young, I only hope I can learn enough from it to prevent the same mistakes in my children.

Nikki & David Goldbeck are the authors of my favourite cookbook, "American Wholefoods Cuisine," so I wasn't disappointed with this effort, either. This is the most clear and concise book I've seen on how to make and, most importantly, how to use yogurt cheese. The YoChee Balls are a must. I've also loved the way the book gives ideas for each recipe to be used,a brief history, and the nutrition counts.

This is a great cookbook. Unlike some health foods, yochee is very easy to make and thus easy to keep around all the time. We use it instead of sour cream, cream cheese, and whipped cream. Our dairy product ingredients were getting very confusing with some family members preferring soy milk and some with lacteous intolerance; but, we all eat (and enjoy!) yochee. This cookbook includes a wide variety of recipes that are quick and easy. Most require a relatively small number of ingredients that we keep on hand anyway. We are very health food conscious in our family and I collect cookbooks. This one is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

More Than You Asked For.......2005-08-20
This book is way more than tips on how to keep your dog young. The test on determining your dog's "real age" is just the teaser to draw you into it. It's a wonderful overall reference on everything from how to choose the right kind of dog for your family to training to nutrition and exercise, with lots of personal stories thrown in. Lots of fun!

This is the book that every dog owner, or potential dog owners, should read. DogAge covers the gamut of dog care, from puppies to senior dogs, diet, training, exercise, and obedience; it's all here. While the DogAge quiz provided some really great tips for keeping my dogs healthy, active, and youthful, the rest of the book is filled with really great tips and facts that I had never really even thought about: dangers such as frisbee catching, puppy mills, and chicken bones. With this book on my shelf, I feel much more prepared to be a better dog owner. This is definitely required reading for all dog owners!

What a great book. I've always owned dogs, but I had no idea that there was so much more I could be doing to help them live longer and healthier! The quiz helped me identify areas that we (me and my mutt!) both needed improvement in-especially food, feeding, and t-r-e-a-t-s! We're both exercising more, eating better, and one of us is no longer digging in the yard, either. Thanks to Dr. Dondi's insightful advice, I've got a complete canine crisis plan, a hazard-free home and yard, and a dog suddenly bursting with energy! I would recommend this book!
A "How To" book that won't put you to sleep.......2005-04-22
After adopting a small dog a few months ago I've read a number of books on taking care of the little guy; DogAge was the first one that could hold my attention. Between the book and dogage.com I've been having fun learning how to keep my dog healthy. I highly recommend DogAge to anyone who wants to know how to keep their dog young at heart!
