Better and better!.......2006-09-20
This is the latest Rowan Gant novel by Sellars--and is it good!!!! He's got a good balance of psychic phenomena and mundane sleuthing this time, and it was a really well-paced work.
There are a couple of new elements; the killer in this book misuses elements of Voodoo (don't worry--the misuse is made quite distinct from proper use). In addition, there's a flavoring of BDSM to the story; it's not as bad as some squicked-out reviewers have made it, and leads me to wonder where this series is going to go.
The ending is a hell of a cliffhanger, more maddeningthan any other. When the next book "All Acts of Pleasure" comes out, which should be soon, I'm picking it up ASAP!
Overall, I really enjoyed this series, and I'm glad there'll be more to it! Highly recommended for esoteric mystery fiction, and a good, quick read to rest your brain from research adn other such things.

A good novel keeps the reader's interest to the very last word. A great one, however manages something else: It grabs the reader's attention, feeds his hunger, and leaves him begging for more. Love Is The Bond not only satisfies this criteria, but is, without a doubt, Sellars best work yet. A truly *great* novel!
Extraordinary story-telling as usual -- but a bit disappointing on another level.......2005-12-14
Love Is the Bond is another example of Sellars' ability to put before the reader a really well-crafted story, one that draws us away from our world and into his. His characters are eminently believable and I'd take almost any of them as neighbors. His attention to detail is exactly right. Personality quirks are administered with an eye toward what might be possible in reality. I read this book in one loooooooooooooong sitting, stopping only for sleep and to accomplish a few other daily necessities.
Now for my single criticism, and the reason this book is getting only four stars from me instead of the five I would have given the other RGI books had I reviewed them:
In his six previous books, this author has been evenhanded and sensitive in his treatment of all things Wiccan as a more-or-less 'normal' subset of human society. I was disappointed, then, to encounter in one of his books such prejudiced treatment of another societal subset: those who have willingly embraced a part of active BDSM subculture.
Sellars used the most lurid images he could conjure from society's collective fear of sexual-power-games-gone-awry to underscore horror and fear in this book. In doing so, he helped to further marginalize an already in-the-shadows group of widely diverse people who claim for themselves a part of the honor and integrity that bind most BDSM practitioners to their partners.
I've bought all of the books in this series as they came out and will most assuredly do the same for the next one, especially since I *have to* know how this story ends. While I recognize that this book is fiction and, at the end of things, written to amuse, I hope the author remembers the obligations that one societal subgroup has to another and revisits the caution to `do no harm'.
End with a cliff hanger.......2005-11-12
Other reviewers have done such a good job of describing the story I will skip that. What I will say is that I have read all of the Rowan Gant books and enjoyed them. I was a little surprised at the level of bondage in this book. For those readers who are uncomfortable around explicit bondage scenes this may not be for you. However, the reason I gave this book a 3 rather than a 4 or 5 as I normally give the Gantt books is that he ends the book on a cliff hanger. The book is unresolved in a way that is guaranteed to drive you crazy trying to wait another year for the 2nd half. I would recommend waiting for the 2nd half to come out and read them together. I can't think what Mr. Sellars and his publisher were thinking to split this into 2 books.
Not what you might expect.......2005-10-28
I've read all of the other Rowan Gant series of books and enjoyed them. The subject of this book is bondage; I found the book a fairly unpleasant read. It's a well-written book, but I ended up just recycling it. I will be more cautious with future titles by this author.

Much needed honest answer! .......2007-08-15
In doing much research on Early Onset BiPolar Disorder there is NOTHING that compairs with the information in this book! It is the benchmark of knowledge and resources. There is a great reassurance in reading it that many families are facing the same nightmare and finding ways of living throught it. Finally, a source of hope when professionals and other resources gave none. Many don't have a clue what was happening and give well-meaning bad advice. This book should be required reading for everyone in any form of the mental health field. Every parent of a child with BiPolar should have a copy.

This is another favorite book by Rita Bingham that is full of information as well as recipes. Like her other books, this is a compendium of healthful cooking. Mrs. Bingham recommends a grain mill that I have on my wishlist for now. But happily I discovered a COFFEE mill at Sam's Club for $30 that grinds what I need, with very little mess. Tasty and Simple Recipes -Great for Gluten Free.......2005-08-30
This cookbook provides recipes for simple and tasty meals using dried beans that can be found in any grocery store. I have other bean cookbooks that call for exotic beans that are difficult to find. My only problem with this book is that half of the recipes call for bean flours that are not so easy to locate. Health and specialty food stores may have one or two types of bean flours such as soy but not all of them called for in this book. The only place I could find pinto bean flour (used in many of the recipes) was in online stores with high shipping charges. The author directs the reader to Bob's Red Mill in Oregon but their web site did not offer any bean flours which may not be available anymore. Because I really wanted to try many of the recipes and I was intrigued with using bean flours in cooking, I took the author's advice and bought a K-Tec Kitchen Mill to grind my beans at home. I am happy with it and I think the instant refried beans made with pinto bean flour is tasty and will be a money saver over time. The soups thickened with bean flours will also be a healthy and tasty way to eat. If you are not interested in searching for bean flours or grinding them at home you may want to look at other bean cookbooks before you purchase this one. Although, this cookbook would be helpful for those allergic to wheat because the recipes show how bean flours can replace products containing gluten.

When I bought this book I thought I was getting a simple living book about how to cook beans. I guess I should have read more about it in amazon, but it reminds me of 1960s hippy commune vegetarian cooking. Not what I had in mind. A lot of soy, tofu, honey and all that. I wish someone would write a book about plain cooking that uses beans and meat!

Great book! Very practical information about what pugs need as far as bathing, skin fold wiping (beware of swamp face), and other general pug hygiene. Very practical training tips, such as belly rubbing to assure your pug that you are dominant (as well as providing a delightful belly rub) and choosing useful words for training, such as "off" instead of "no jumping," so that that your pug can be praised with the same word, for example, "Good Off," which then serves as a built-in reward (and doesn't exhaust the word "No"). Interesting and funny information on pug personalities. What's not to love about a pug?

We thought that this book was great. It has really helped us since we became new pug owners. It explained about health concerns and potty training, to what kind of toys pugs like the best. I would highly reccommend this book to anyone thinking about getting a pug!

BEAUTIFUL REFERENCE BOOK.......2007-08-08
Don't let the title fool you, Hot Wheels the Ultimate Redline Guide Companion covers much more than just Redlines. It does adhere to the period of 1968 - 1977, but it covers a whole host of Hot Wheels products produced during that period including Chopcycles, Hot Birds, Hot Shots, RRRumblers, SmallShots, Zowees, and a new chapter in this second edition on Gran Toros. As with all every title from Collector Books the production is first rate with very colorful and sharp photography all in a heavy duty hard cover book. The usual matter on things like grading and pricing leads things off before we get into the first of over a dozen different chapters on various Hot Wheels lines and accessories.
Each chapter opens with a bit of history and reference information about that particular line of Hot Wheels such as the year the line was introduced, how many vehicles were in each series, etc...The Gran Toros section is particularly interesting as this joint venture between Mattel and Mebetoys of Italy is largely unknown to all but the most avid Hot Wheels collectors and is a welcome addition to the guide. This is a truly beautiful line featuring vehicles such as the Lamborghini Miura, Mustang Boss 302, Porsche Carrera 10, and the Ferrari P4.
The Sizzlers section shows an overview of the cars and then shows each car on its own page with a large close-up view, and then with several smaller pictures displaying some of the various color variations for each car along with a price grade table for mint loose cars and MIP cars. Each car again features background into on the model, noting specific features about each such if it came with decals or not. It's interesting to note that often there isn't a great deal of difference between the price on a loose mint car and one in the package. It certainly differs by the model and the disparity is greater on the cars which are more rare, of course.
One thing I loved about the Sizzlers section was all the photos of the great accessories such as the various track sets. These show a picture of the packaging along with a checklist of all of the components in the set which is very useful. This book is a great reference title for any level of Hot Wheels collector and the photography is second to none.

This is the very finest volume on the subject -- bar none. Each and every car has a one- or two-page listing, complete with description, history, variations, and values by color. Photos are large and lavish. Hot Wheels playsets, accessories, and collateral merchandise are covered as well. Plus, the book is published in a sturdy library binding. It's well worth the price. You will not need another book about Hot Wheels Redlines.

The best Hot Wheels Redline reference!.......2005-05-31
This book is a must have for any serious Redline collector. It is a beautifully presented hardcover book of almost 400 pages; jam packed with photos, facts and figures for all Hot Wheels models from 1968 to 1977.
Each model has its own page listing colours, variations and values for loose and packaged cars from Hong Kong and the USA. The book also has special sections on Gran Prix, Heavyweights, Sky Show, Spoilers, Carry Cases, Displays, Gift Sets, Playsets, Track Sets, Merchandise, Collector Buttons and more.
I own the Tomart guide, the Schiffer guide and several others and none of them come close the detail and accuracy found in this book.

Amazing Excellent Beautiful Hot Wheels Book.......2003-11-27
I have read through many Hot Wheel Guides which speculate values. I have left most books on the shelf, but I had to buy this one. This book doesn't focus on the recent peg hangers and doesn't suggest values that no one in their right mind would pay.
Instead this book focuses on the Redlines (1968 - 1977 models with the red strip on the tires). There are many beautiful photos of each of the vehicles, documentation on the variations and colors the vehicles, and realistic values for each of the variations.
I thought about assembling a Hot Wheels reference book for myself as I could not find a book which was detailed, with realistic values, and good photos. I dont have to now as this is exactly what I was looking for.
So for those of you who get sucked in to thinking about by buying a values guide for the current peg hangers, ask yourself "Is someone really going to pay rediculous prices for something at the local store for under a buck?" Maybe within the first couple months of the release the prices will be high, but then the values go kerplop. Maybe in 15 years the values will climb for these current peg hangers.
The redlines are the way to go, and this book is all you need.

Collector Books has finally gotten their wish. After many years of looking, they've finally found an author to assemble a Hot Wheels price guide for them. (...Well, actually two authors.)
Jack Clark and Robert P. Wicker have assembled The Ultimate Redline Guide, a 352-page full-color extravaganza of which Collector Books thought so highly as to make it a hardbound edition. (Edition listed on Amazon.com is in paperback.)
Add this book to the six other Hot Wheels price guides currently on the market. Is there room for a seventh? In this case, yes, without a doubt. The Ultimate Redline Guide focuses on Hot Wheels from that era before Hot Wheels were considered collectible, and are now therefore the most highly prized.
Redline, for those of you just returning from a pre-Seventies alien abduction, refers to the red stripe on early Hot Wheels tires that distinguishes them from later models.

I knew the moment I held this book it was the only one I would need for Hotwheel Redline information. This book blows the other guides to shame. It's a hardback and will withstand the constant page flipping it will get. The years and series are set in logical order. There are pictures of every redline made and well shot. Detailed history about the cars, and pictures showing the variations are only half of what makes this book THE Redline guide. If you are a collector of Redlines, or any Hotwheels, this is a MUST have! I can only hope that these authors will release other titles soon.

More a wellspring of delicious inspiration than a true how-to book, Jill Gordon's Needlepoint is filled with exquisite ideas and loads of colorful photos of her luscious designs. In their subtle shadings and even their subject matter, they resemble paintings more than traditional needlework--not surprising, since the author confesses a lifelong love of painting and uses watercolor sketches as templates for her tapestries. Some are wonderfully clever (a formal garden depicted as seen through a window, with a brightly cushioned windowseat as the scene's foreground), some are almost abstract in their eloquent repetitions (six flamingos clustered together become a series of salmony-orange nuances); all are highly poetic interpretations of the lush beauty of the natural world: flowers, landscapes, fruits and vegetables, fish, lizards, birds. Gordon explains the origin of each of the 20 designs and lists the canvas and yarns used; she also provides full (and necessarily complex) charts and stitching instructions for 13 of them. These projects are definitely not for the less-experienced needleworker (even intermediate-level stitchers may experience some frustration), but the designs are so lovely and the colors so vibrant that crafters of any skill level will enjoy them, and may even want this volume as a design sourcebook for adaptation to other crafts. --Amy Handy
