I purchased this book for my wife since she enjoys the Soap. She kept telling me that she has read this before. We took out the original hardback copy and each chapter was word-for-word. The only changes was the cover, a few pictures, and the ' A Note from the Author '. I recommend they have a 'Recall'

I was really excited about receiving this book. I didn't think that it would ever arrive! What a disappointment after I read it. It was the same exact book at the first except for a different cover and 1 chapter added at the end of the book. Everything else was the same!! This was a very big let-down.

From someone who has never watched ATWT . . . a decent read.......2007-09-16
I have never seen the show As the World Turns. I actually picked this book up thinking it was based on an actual town in the midwest, and thinking that it was an expose--albeit with embellishments--about the people there. I found this a very suspenseful and enjoyable read, and I was able to finish it in one day. When I think about it, it is very soap opera-ish and reads somewhat like a romance type novel. Nevertheless, as a suspense/thriller enthusiast, I still found this enjoyable.

Murder in Oakdale brings about a new trio of investigators.......2006-08-15
I really enjoyed the book. It was a mystery novel about a wealthy family in Oakdale. In the beginning the son from the wealthy family is murdered at a celebration for the family. The rest of the novel is about Katie, Carly, and Maddie investigating the murder to prove that Mike, Jack, and Henry are innocent. They do incorporate previous experiences that actually happened on the soap opera itself, which I enjoyed. Overall it was a great novel. I even gave it to my husband to read once I was done.

I couldn't get beyond 50 pages in this puerile nonsense. No wonder the author has remained anonymous. He/she didn't want the rest of the publishing world to know how low he/she will stoop to make a couple of bucks. It could definitely hurt the negotiating position if this is an author who ever tries to sell a REAL book.
Words fail me on how awful this thing truly is. It shows all the skill and maturity in the author of a junior high schooler. The "characters" are ridiculously two-dimensional, if even that.
I'd give this negative stars if that were at all possible. Save your money; don't even bother wasting your time checking it out of the library for free.

Tanith Lee never ceases to amaze me. She has had a very long career, and her writing not only continues to be fresh and compelling in fantasy (probably her "clan terrtitory'), but to conquer other genres handily. "Louisa the Poisoner" is both a fantasy and a twist on a type of Victorian romance. This is a short novel, but with a satisfyingly rich plot and palette of (mostly unpleasant) characters. It is wickedly, sardonically funny, something Lee does particularly well. Its "moral" is, to say the least, unconventional, but, I think, quite apt. A very fine, short read!

Reading this book makes one feel like Tanith Lee is taking a break from trying new things. This is a quintessential Tanith Lee book complete with morally ambiguous/repulsive heroine and a cast of despotic fools that play victim to her machinations. The progress of the book consists of Lee's heroine wheedling her way into the bosom of a gothic family standard and killing them one by one.
Not much else happens. There's a prosecutor that shows up late in the narrative to provide some tension, but that's about it. It's always great to read Tanith Lee whose prose is second to none, but this book is just nothing new.

I am a speech-language pathologist who works with autistic children and the mother of an autistic child. I found this book to have good information. It isn't too clinical, so a parent without specialized training could easily follow the advice offered. Play is so important for children with autism, but it is hard to know what to do when a child isn't interested in interacting with you. This book gives excellent advice on how to get a child to want to play with you.

This book is about learning how to work, act, and play with a child on the spectrum. The book is written in plain english, which makes it very easy to understand and incoperate the play ideas. I enjoyed this book. However my few critisms are that some of the links and references in the back of the book are mostly UK sites. Also, if you want to learn more about behavioral modification programs like ABA or TEACCH techniques, this is not the book for you. Basically, this book gives the reader creative ideas of how to interact with an autistic child. This book is great for parents and therapists. Its a book i think everyone should read, whether you have an autistic child or not. There are several useful ideas, even working with "typical" children.

This is the second of Carol Field's books that I've read (the first one I picked up was "Celebrating Italy") and her hallmarks seem to be meticulous, yet loving, research and a writing style that manages to evoke the sights, sounds, smells, textures, and flavors of Italian cooking to a mouth-watering degree.
"In Nonna's Kitchen" is a cookbook that Field researched by going to Italy and culling time-honored, taste-tested recipes from several authentic Italian grandmothers. I have not yet tried any of the recipes, but reading them feels like good eatin'. I usually dislike cookbooks that don't feature a picture of every recipe. "In Nonna's Kitchen" contains no pictures of food, but the recipes and Field's writing on Italian cuisine and culture make pictures unnecessary.
Ah, yes, culture. It's easy to see Field not so much as a food writer, but as an eager and loving student of Italian culture. She does much honor to the Italian grandmothers who contributed to this book by providing a lengthy, colorful profile of each of them. In these profiles, the "nonne" discuss how they learned to cook, what their lives have been like, how cooking has changed over the courses of their lifetimes, etc. In addition to these formal profiles, Field includes little anecdotes about several of the grandmothers within the recipes they provided.
These are not your stereotypical black-shawled, muttering Italian grandmothers, either. They range in age from 40s-90s, and a good many of them are classically beautiful, stylish women. All of them, however, are quintessentially Italian in that they place great importance on good, simple food made from the freshest local ingredients.
I plan to buy copies of "In Nonna's Kitchen" and "Celebrating Italy" for myself; they're too good not to own. Carol Field now has the distinction of being my favorite food writer!
Grandma Knows Best!.......2001-08-29
For lovers of Italian food in particular, but for any lover of cooking and Italy, this is a must have for your collection. Every recipe is preceded by an introduction to the Nonna (Grandmother) whose speciality it is. These Nonnas run the gamut, from sophisticated Roman and Florentine women to women from small villages, still cooking as their own Nonnas did. I've tried several of the recipes and each has been spectacular. I'm buying another copy to take as a gift for a week-long 60th birthday celebration at a villa near Sienna. Ciao!

When my mother gave me this cook book, and I saw the word 'Nonna' in the title, I got a little choked up. I also whispered to myself, "this better be good." Well...'Bravo! Ti hai fatto bene!' You have done well. Yes, the recipes are wonderful, but the mood, the stories, the history of each of these Nonnas made me smile, and made me proud. Just as in my Nonna's cooking, these ladies are the best at turning leftovers into elegance. Wonderful subtle flavors - Crostini, Polpette, the Chocolate Ameretti Pudding...all we need is a deck of cards for Scopa! I made my Nonna write down her sauce recipe for me, because if I didn't, it would have died with her, recipes are verbal traditions handed down for generations...this is cooking history. Thank you. My wife thanks you too...books like this motivate husbands to cook more often.

This was a very well put together book with lots of good information. My only dissapointment is that it seemed a bit too generic - not breed specific. Its as if the words "toy fox terrier" were inserted with the same info used with other dogs and other books.

While Baker-Kreuger's "Toy Fox Terriers" is 192 pages long, only the first 32 pages are breed specific, and ten of those pages were simply copied from the breed standard. Although there are a lot of nice photographs, there is very little original information presented. I would not call this an authoritative book on Toy Fox Terriers, but rather a cut and paste collection of general dog information.

This book is very infomative. The TFT book will help you know everything there is to know about your TFT. It will help you train and take care of your puppy to an adult. The book also gives health care tips to breeding your dog. The book also offers some wonderful pictures of TFT.

This textbook is a very detailed and very up-to-date exposition of Neuroscience, and in my view, for the more advanced student it is one of the best books out there. What it is NOT is a simple, concise introduction for people who are studying the nervous system for the first time. If you are taking an entry-level Neuroscience course you are likely to be overwhelmed by the amount of detail, and, like some of the other reviewers who gave this book a bad rap, might blame the book for the fact that you can only take in so much detail in a first sitting, and fail to see the forest for all the trees. So if you are new to Neuroscience, read something like Bear et al "Neuroscience - Exploring the Brain" first, and only once you have absorbed that, turn to this beautifully detailed book for a much closer look at the subject. The chapters on Vision by Clay Reid and the Hearing chapters by Brown in this book are quite simply and without a doubt among the best textbook chapters on these topics anywhere, (and much better than anything you will find in Kandel!)
Most up-to-date text on the market.......2005-03-28
I'm a clinical academic neurologist with an MS in neuroscience some 25 years ago, and I decided to read through this text as a means of bringing myself up-to-date in the field. This textbook accomplished that task admirably. I will agree with some critics that parts of it were far too detailed, especially the sections on molecular neurobiology, where too often things got bogged down with discussions of a protein's biophysical properties, for example. Another caveat is that there are some production defects--the pages around 200 are not in the right order, and I found a few diagrams that were mislabelled. But the illustrations are really gorgeous. I've made extensive use of the CD, which contains all the figures and their legends, for Power Point presentations to the neurology residents I teach. I would suggest that future editions of the CD incorporate some videos and animated diagrams that could better illustrate some concepts, e.g., details of signal transduction, which is REALLY complex and was hard to follow in the text. But Kandels text is now several years older and as the pace of neuroscience is so incredibly rapid, this text contains more of the latest info.

This text is not appropiate for any for introductory class to neuroscience at any level (whether grad or undergrad). The depth and detail leaves the reader confused at best. Perhaps it is suitable for an advanced gradute seeking to remedy any detail oriented holes. For all others, it is a precursor to a headache.
The smart money would go with the Kandel who clearly defines
his purpose at the outset of his classic book.

Truly Fundamental!.......2001-04-22
I was rather lucky to take my chances and go-for-a-buy for this title instead of the much more cited "Kandel-Fourth Edition"... The book is really awesome, well-written and edited, with many good first-time-seen illustrations. It spans the whole field of contemporary Neuroscience (from biochemical to cognitive and clinical) with extreme efficacy and reference. The authors did a great job integrating the contents of each section with clarifying examples and extensive references, making it ideal even for new-comers. As a medical student with research interests in this vast field, I was very pleased with my decision to buy this textbook.
A must in any med-school.......2000-08-20
This book can make any person understand the basic aspects of Pathology, it requires a good level of Histology knowledge ( not more than a good approach of the previous course ). Excellent images and explanations make this issue a good purchase.
The only drawback I've found is the fancy words the authors use to define something it's easy to understand, but after all I think it's a vey good choice.

Rare and interesting novel by a noted historian.......2002-02-01
Minty alley is one of the first books C.L.R. James wrote, before he found his niche as a historian and cricket writer. But This isn't because of any lack of talent in fiction writing. The characters of Minty Alley are real and rounded and tell us something about ourselves as well as the people of Trinidad. The vast class differences in colonial societies even among the colonised peoples is thrown into stark relief by James's caricatures. You might be shocked at the poverty or amused by the dialogue,

An important book in the litarary history of the Caribbean. The journey of a middle class voyer into the everyday world of a working class family. The class politics and the internal revelations of the main character drive the story and the relationships he has with the other characters. On the whole this is a book with a relatively simple language and implicitly complex themes.

A long-overdue critical appreciation of the West Indian historian and political activist who played a towering role in the cause of Pan-Africanism in the twentieth century.
Born in Trinidad in 1901, Cyril Lionel Robert James was a precocious polymath all his life. By the time he was a teenager and already a certified teacher, he had embarked on a lifelong advocacy for the Trinidadian oppressed. He embraced Marxism while living in England during the 1930s, during which time he published, among other works, The Case for West Indian Self Government and his masterpiece, The Black Jacobins.
James lived in the United States from 1939 until he was expelled during the McCarthy terror for his political activities. Thereafter he divided his time between London and Trinidad (where he served as Secretary of the West Indies Federal Labor Party) and, until his death in 1989, wrote works of both fiction and nonfiction that would profoundly influence the Black Power movement in the United States and independence movements in Africa and the West Indies.
Farrukh Dhondy knew James personally and was given access to his papers. The result is a biography that is a revelation of the life and work of this legendary intellect and revolutionary.
