Book Description
Vacationing in St. Loo, Hercule Poirot meets a beautiful young woman named Nick Buckley, who tells him about three accidents she's had in the past few days, none of which sound much like accidents to the detective. During a chat, Nick complains of a bothersome wasp. After she leaves, Poirot finds a bullet on the ground and a bullet hole in the hat Nick had been wearing and left behind. He offers her his protection and help and she accepts. Another attempt on her life results in the death of another person, and Poirot spirits Nick away for safekeeping. When even this doesn't stop Nick's would-be killer and it becomes clear that several "friends" could benefit greatly from her death Poirot stages an unusual séance. Reader Hugh Fraser finds all the mystery and drama in this colorful whodunit first published as a book in 1932.

Golden Age But Not 24 Carat.......2007-09-05
When I first read Agatha Christie's "Peril at End House" many years ago, I was disappointed. I thought there were serious flaws in the plot and that Poirot was practically a caricature of himself. Later I watched a PBS Mystery version, and the flaws seemed even worse. I believe this is one of the books that Agatha Christie in her autobiography admits she couldn't even remember writing.
So it was with some misgivings that I approached rereading "Peril at End House". Yes, the flaws are still there, and it is certainly not one of Miss Christie's best. Nevertheless, it is very good. The plot despite some weak spots is quite clever. The characters are good even with Poirot being "over the top". The Christie humor is there but not as apt as in most of her other works.
I never cease to be impressed with the way in which Miss Christie lays out the clues for the reader. It is always "fair play". One critic compared her to a magician in that she is a master at misdirection. "Peril at End House" is a beautiful example of her use of misdirection -- if 15 or so paragraphs had been printed in bold-face type, almost every reader would have figured out the solution.
Not Agatha Christie at her best, but "Peril at End House" is still a winner.
A good night's read.......2007-03-25
Wonderfully written and constantly on the move so that you never want to set it down! I haven't read a Hercule Poirot book before, and this seems to be a later one, still I felt no problem picking up on his eccentricities and persona. The book is fairly short and so intriguing that I found I had finished it much sooner that I hoped!
The plot is full of twists so that I never saw the ending in its entirety until the final chapter, but I never felt like the book relied on absurd jumps to hide the solution.
Also, the book was written a while ago, and the language and style reflect that. Some stock scenes are used and cliches are bandied about (like the climatic scene!) but I found this more charming then worn out!
A great twist makes it memorable.......2007-02-22
It's fun to try to figure out who the killer is in Christie's mysteries. She generally plays fair and there is a satisfaction in following the clues to an end. This one tricked me and that made it fun. Poirot also heads in the wrong direction so at least I was not alone. A number of attempts are made on a young woman's life, leading Poirot to investigate and do his best to save her. A number of twists and turns and a few suspicious characters made this a very satisfying addition to the series.
Midperiod book--Better on the rereading by fans.......2007-01-04
Quite good. Better than most reviewers give it credit for. Nice work.
I agree - classic Christie!.......2006-07-07
Wonderful characters and setting of story puts you right there with Poirot and Hastings solving the mystery. These Agatha Christie books are top notch. This ending will surprise you!

Customer Reviews:
Love it! Great resource!.......2007-05-17
I LOVE this book because I keep returning to it and making so much use out of it when I work with some of my clients. A few of my clients have also commented on this book and how helpful it was in explaining some things that were happening in their lives and how they were responding to certain life events and people. If used properly a great resource for clinicians and patients. Supplements the other Jeffrey Young Schema Therapy text and very much designed for the lay person and client to use. It also provides good case studies and helpful strategies.
Reinventing Your Life.......2007-05-13
I found this book very helpful. As a self help book it has helped me to find a lot of things about myself, which in turn has made me feel better about myself & more able to stand up for myself. Excellant (it was recomended to me by my Doctor)
The Awakening.......2007-05-13
Reinventing Your Life is a powerful opening to taking a closer look at ones self and the conditions that we place ourselves into without a second thought. This book exposed the many negative thoughts that enter the mind and that we embrace without questioning the information or intention of the information. I'm proud to say that I no longer struggle with negative thoughts and/or behaviors after reading this book. Of course, something works only if you are willing to conscientously put the steps into action.
Lifetraps -- No Longer a Lifelong Trap.......2007-03-02
Excellent book on how to apply a combination of psychodynamic, Gestalt, and Cognitive Behavioral techniques to oneself (through self-help) or others (in counseling). Based on the idea that there are "maladaptive schemas" starting in early years of development, ways are outlined for identifying, experiencing, and then challenging and replacing these "lifetraps" with improved and more satisfying functional coping skills. The authors originally developed these methods for personality-disordered (Axis II, DSM-IV TR) Clients but this is the "popular" (and I think the more useful and better-presented) version of their original book on the topic. The concepts apply to everyone across the board and are not limited to people who have a "diagnosis" or are in "therapy."
A Must Read.......2007-02-23
Having been a member of twelve step fellowships (AA/NA) for many years and working through their programme, I found this book incredablely valuable.
It has shown me the exact nature of my shortcomings/defects of character and a healthy way to address them.
I can recommend this book to people of similar ilke.

A Cookbook Joke.......2007-01-20
I usually look at the dimensions of books I buy on line but did not on this one. Too bad. It was about 3" X 4" - like a toddler's first book. It should have been half the price - including shipping - and probably not worth the trouble anyway. The recipes weren't even worth reading. I'm sorry Amazon chose to link this book with a very good waffle maker. I based my purchase on the credibility of Amazon. I guess that was a mistake.
The not worth the money waffle book.......2007-01-11
Very small book for the price, no recipies for basic waffles, way too much money for this so-so book.
Delicious pancakes and waffles.......2005-02-22
There's nothing I enjoy more after a hard morning workout in the mountains or the gym for breakfast than a huge stack of pancakes or waffles. I usually opt for whole wheat flour over sourdough and I always add some sliced fruit like bananas or berries with some walnuts or other nuts. Top it off with a little butter and syrup and prepare for a heavenly meal. Mmmmm. Many good recipes in this book.
Yummy, Pancakes & Waffles.......2001-03-27
When I want to make pancakes or waffles this is the book I always reach for. The Buttermilk Pancakes, Cornmeal Blueberry Pancakes are two of our most favorite. Hungry for the long-time-ago taste of Buckwheat Pancakes, then you'll love the flavor of these. Whether you need something for breakfast or want to try a new version on a favorite snack for the children (mine adore the Peanut Butter Waffles anytime of the day), waffles are a good choice, not only because they freeze well, but they taste Great!! Proving again that good things come in small packages; this is a Totally complete Pancake and Waffle Cookbook!
Good Eating.......2000-12-11
I have been preparing sourdough pancakes and waffles for over 25 years using dozens of methods and techniques, but the simple recipe on pg 56 beats them all for flavor, texture, and overnite preparation! The Sour Cream Silver Dollar pancakes and the Cornmeal Blueberry Cakes are a tie for second place at our breakfast table. I would rate this little book 5 stars, but I haven't tried more than about four of the recipes-yet. As they say, enjoy!
Book Description
Clear, step-by-step photography guides the reader through all the necessary procedures to prepare for safe, low-stress traveling. Readers will learn how to select a truck and trailer; train a horse to enter, exit, and travel in a trailer; pack the right gear and emergency equipment; drive safely while pulling a trailer; and care for a horse en route.
Customer Reviews:
A worthwhile book for novices.......2001-09-03
This book is less about horse trailers than I expected. It is more about preparing the novice horse and horse-person to load & unload their horse. It does not include a comprehensive discussion on the current types (and fads) of trailers, nor does it cover the "horse's perspective" of what makes a good trailer. The small sections on trailers and tow vechicles is okay, but not nearly as comprehensive and fact-filled as "The Complete Guide to Buying, Maintaining and Servicing a Horse Trailer" by the Scheves.
I would recommend "Trailering your Horse..." as a second source for the potential trailer buyer.
2nd time around training.......2001-01-25
This is a must-have for anyone just trailering for the first time or working with a horse that was mistrained in trailering. Using Cherry's techniques has helped me to learn a great deal about my horse's previous training and given me the information needed to retrain him properly. I would recommend it for the novice or the pro!
A must have.......2000-08-02
This book helped me put together a combination of safe tow vehicle; well-equipped, comfortable horse trailer; and well-trained horse. I wish I had read it years ago. It would have saved me and my horses a lot of trouble. I have recommended this book to many people and would suggest that anyone considering the purchase of a horse trailer and/or tow vehicle read it and re-read it before talking to a single dealer/seller.
Must Have for Horse People.......2000-01-19
I found this book extremely helpful. Even though I don't trailer my horse but a couple times a year, I thought that the information provided, was layed out well and the pictures were great. Besides learning how to safely trailer my horse, this book also taught me how to control my horse from the ground using voice commands, which I found handy whether I was putting her on a trailer or not. I have all of Cherry Hill's books and the pictures always make things quick and easy to follow. What horseperson has time to read wordy, time-consuming volumes on horsecare? Pictures tell a thousand words!

Entire book lettered in Calligraphy! Very impressive!.......1999-09-06
I have been teaching Calligraphy for over 20 years. I've reviewed many books, and I like this one the best. I recommend this book for my students. I suggest they buy this book first, then check out the others by this author, they're all outstanding!
An excellent guide for beginners........1999-02-18
This book is for people who want to do it right-- if you're looking for shortcuts to writing calligraphy, you won't find it here. The author gives you all the rules, techniques, and points to remember for creating authentic calligraphy, and starts with the oldest forms (with their brief histories) onward. It's interesting to discover some of the evolutions and developments of the written letter; this book gives you an appreciation for them. The entire book is even written in longhand calligraphy, not machine-typed, with a lot of good examples and projects. Excellent guide.

"Some small woodblock prints".......2000-01-16
An outstanding catalogue of a significant collection overlooked by the earlier specialists who catalogued the Wright collection (and labeled the box containing them "small woodblock prints). Ms. Mirviss brings her vast knowledge and expertise as well as her unfailing artistic eye to this often confusing genre. Stunning illustrations of previously unpublished or rarely seen works enhance the richness and pleasure of this catalogue and complement the text.
Book Description
How do adult children of interracial parents—where one parent is Jewish and one is Black—think about personal identity? This question is at the heart of Katya Gibel Azoulay’s Black, Jewish, and Interracial. Motivated by her own experience as the child of a Jewish mother and Jamaican father, Gibel Azoulay blends historical, theoretical, and personal perspectives to explore the possibilities and meanings that arise when Black and Jewish identities merge. As she asks what it means to be Black, Jewish, and interracial, Gibel Azoulay challenges deeply ingrained assumptions about identity and moves toward a consideration of complementary racial identities.
Beginning with an examination of the concept of identity as it figures in philosophical and political thought, Gibel Azoulay moves on to consider and compare the politics and traditions of the Black and Jewish experience in America. Her inquiry draws together such diverse subjects as Plessy v. Ferguson, the Leo Frank case, "passing," intermarriage, civil rights, and anti-Semitism. The paradoxical presence of being both Black and Jewish, she argues, leads questions of identity, identity politics, and diversity in a new direction as it challenges distinct notions of whiteness and blackness. Rising above familiar notions of identity crisis and cultural confrontation, she offers new insights into the discourse of race and multiculturalism as she suggests that identity can be a more encompassing concept than is usually thought. Gibel Azoulay adds her own personal history and interviews with eight other Black and Jewish individuals to reveal various ways in which interracial identities are being lived, experienced, and understood in contemporary America.
Customer Reviews:
This is my mom's book.......2000-11-18
My mother is Dr. Katya Gibel Azoulay and I've read some of her book. I think she is one of the smartest people I know, and if you want to research on interracial families, you need to read this book. Good job Mommy!
A Necessary Disruption Of The Status Quo.......1999-11-05
Gibel Azoulay enters the discourse on race at a pivotal point in history, when debates over the reconfiguration of census/socio-political categories and developments in the so called "mixed race" literature threaten to turn back the clocks to a sanitized version of Jim Crow. The author's voice is a refreshing and insightful alternative to those who wish to ignore history for the sake of those "mixed race" individuals hoping to 'escape' blackness. Gibel Azoulay's insistence upon maintaining dual cultural identities (Jewish and Black) must make a number of theorists and laymen incredibly uncomfortable. With impeccable scholarship and an original theoretical base she achieves a radical positioning, refusing to the embrace the idealized notions of racelessness put forth by Appiah and others, at the same time resisting the pure essentialization of the Afrocentrists. This is an important, noteworthy contribution. Great Job!
Author's devotion to hypodescent ruined the book.......1999-10-09
The author could have made a great contribution to both Jewish and "mixed-race" literature IF she had not been so devoted to the "one drop" myth of forced hypodescent. The author is a Jew but she is NOT a "black" one. She even tries to label her Israeli-born sons (by a "white" Jewish husband) "black"! Give us a break! Didn't she learn anything from the Nuremberg Laws? Why is she trying to enforce an American version of them?
