Book Description
When Emily Pollifax answers the phone that Sunday morning, she quickly forgets all about her Garden Club tea that afternoon. For the voice on the other end belonged to a man she had never seen, a man from the CIA who asked her if she could leave immediately on a mission that would take her halfway across the world! What could Mrs. Pollifax say but yes?
Customer Reviews:
Enjoyable book.......2007-08-09
I really like the Mrs. Pollifax series. They are interesting and fun reads. THey don't have a lot of the crude lanuage that other "spy novels" are full of. If you are looking for really in depth reads these are problably not for you. These books are an easy and fun read.
Mrs. Pollifax Returns.......2006-08-17
After her first adventure, Mrs. Pollifax figured she'd never hear from the CIA again. Naturally, when Mr. Carstairs calls and asks her to do another bit of currier work, she's surprised. She recklessly agrees to go. And this time, Carstairs is taking no chances. He's assigning another agent to follow Mrs. Pollifax around and keep her out of trouble.
A notorious Soviet agent has recently defected, and Mrs. Pollifax is to go to Turkey to meet her and help her get to US soil. Naturally, every agency in the world is after this agent, so the danger will be fierce.
Her first night in Turkey, Mrs. Pollifax makes contact, only to be arrested by the local police. Then her shadow is murdered. Alone in a foreign land, Mrs. Pollifax has only her instincts and a young man she just happened to meet to help her. Can she get herself and the agent safely back to the States?
While the first book needed time to set up the premise of the series, this book starts right away. Like Mrs. Pollifax, it can leave the reader a little breathless. Fortunately, there's a little set up before the plot starts in earnest, but once it starts, hold on! The pace is fast and the danger almost constant. Again, there are some plot points that seem a little far fetched, but the book is such fun the reader won't care.
Part of the fun is the characters. Mrs. Pollifax herself is a dear. Her unique perspective on the world makes anything fun. She's taken up karate between books, a skill that comes in quite handy through the rest of the series. In this book, great characters surround her. The heroes are lovable and the villains menacing.
This book was first written in 1970, a fact that is key to a few moments in the story. The historical context of the book helps bring things to an even more vivid life.
While coincidence shows up a time or two, the overall effect is minor. This second book in the series is another winner. You'll be turning pages desperately trying to find out what danger awaits Mrs. Pollifax next.
Mrs. Pollifax Wears Many Hats!.......2006-07-25
In the follow-up to the charming debut novel, The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, Dorothy Gilman writes another book filled with intrigue and heroism. Mrs. Pollifax, a widow who enjoys teas and garden clubs, sets out on her second courier job for the CIA, a mission which starts in Istanbul. Searching for a missing woman (an agent with international ties), Mrs. Pollifax poses as a tourist to track down the woman and smuggle her safely out of the country. Protected by only an agent, who has no idea what her real mission is to be, Mrs. Pollifax must use her newly acquired knowledge of karate and her unflappable nature to charm her way out of some sticky situations. Hair-raising as always, Mrs. Pollifax's second adventure will leave you wanting more!
I was thrilled to read the second adventure of Mrs. Pollifax, and enjoyed every moment spent with her on the case. Mrs. Pollifax is not a person that you would initially feel would make a good CIA agent. She is elderly, loves to wear outlandish hats, and finds a way to talk and get to know everyone around her. But it is just these qualities that make her so invisible in the world of spies, and even the most cynical of agents falls under her spell. I loved the fact that Mrs. Pollifax learned karate (since she hates guns I worried about how she could plausibly protect herself) and that she was just as lovable yet determined as she was in the previous book. If you have not tried this series, pick up a copy of this book and the previous book, The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, and join the millions of others who are charmed by this beloved character!
The first book in the series is called "The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax". Enjoy!
A POLLIFAX COLLECTOR.......2006-03-11
Ms. Gilman has created a delightful character in Emily Pollifax - adventuresome and resourceful. Tough too. And always refreshing!

Customer Reviews:
The best thing I've ever done for myself!.......2007-07-15
This is the best thing I have done for myself------EVER! In the first two weeks I lost 11 lbs. I still have a ways to go, but I feel wonderful and it's a great motivator to keep going. Even if you did this program and didn't drop any weight it's worth it because you will feel GREAT! I have more energy, my skin looks better, and my aches/pains are gone. In the morning I used to wake up groggy, but now I wake up and I'm ready to go! I have an infant so sleep is a rare commodity and even though I'm up in the night I still feel way better than I did before starting the program. I have recently become very concerned about all the toxins we put into our bodies and this book explains how they interfere with your body systems. I really like how the book explains the what, why, and how of nutrition. It's going to help me make better choices for my baby also. I want to take steps to limit her exposure to toxins and have her grow up eating the right foods.
I guess I've been eating all the wrong things over the years. This is a life changing program. It's not a quick fix, but it teaches you how to eat to feel great and keep the weight off. I found it very easy to get started after reading the book. It's very easy to read and has clear instructions. The supplies were easy to find online or at my local health food store. Initially it seems more expensive, but it's really not. You will end up buying different groceries than you used to buy. I don't feel like I'm spending more I'm just buying way different things.
I have tried many programs over the years including Atkins, the Zone, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, etc. and lost weight just to gain it back. This is the first time I have felt like my life is changing forever. Instead of living to eat, I will eat to live and feel wonderful! If you want to feel great and/or lose weight, try this!
Sensible weight loss.......2007-05-14
Found Ann Louise's diet makes sense. I'm enjoying learning about the liver & lymph system.
Very sensible weight loss and maintenance program.......2007-05-12
I followed the diet strictly for Phase 1 and lost 10 pounds and at least 3 inches from my waist and hips. My face got noticeably thinner as well. It was very difficult the first few days to give up salt, but my tastebuds adjusted and now I really enjoy the food. Giving up the fat was not hard at all. I have to use Stevia to sweeten the cranberry water though.
I would not recommend buying this book without the cookbook. The recipes in the plan book are very limited and she has actually added some "legal" spices in the cookbook that improve the flavor of many of the foods. The easy bake salmon is a family favorite.
My two little children did not really enjoy most of the recipes (I have made about 20 of the different recipes...you end up doing lots of cooking). My husband liked them but added salt and pepper to everything. I think she should add more ethnic dishes (some Thai dishes use all the right spices). It isn't that difficult to adapt some of your favorite recipes to the plan's requirements.
The hardest thing about the plan is carving out the time to shop and cook everything. I work full time and have children, so spending hours in the kitchen is not on my "to do" list. Barbecuing a bunch of Limey chicken and eating it over bagged salad with the Fat Flush dressing ended up being lunch, and a sort of "convenience food."
I am starting week four and plan to stick with the diet until I get to my target weight. But I also feel like the best benefit of the process is not just weight loss but realizing the way that I need to eat for my health. I have experienced a big change in my energy level and I attribute that to cutting out sugar and wheat. I like the experimental part of this diet where you add back foods a little at a time and track how your body responds. When I do make it down to the weight I desire it will be so easy to know how to maintain it!
It is true to it's word.......2007-04-07
After reading The Fat Flush Plan, I decided to try the plan. I have to say, it is true to it's word. The book is very easy to follow. As for the diet it truly works. What I found most promising is that the plan is not too extreme.
Fat Flush Program.......2007-03-31
The concepts of this program makes sense. It is however very restictive and too difficult to follow in my busy life. I did however take some of the stategies and apply them to my life; such as drinking the flaxseed oil and the 64 oz of unseetened cranberry juice. I was unable to give up my morning coffee but have tried to do the hot lemon water before my first cup.

Customer Reviews:
Alan Dunn excels.......2005-08-30
Again I am reviewing a book that I do not have, I ordered Exotic Sugar Flowers For Cakes on July10 and have had frequent delays. I am very frustrated as I have seen this book and it is a terrific learning book for the decorator who loves to mould flowers and sprays. It is definetly a 5 star rated book, JUST WISH I HAD IT.
5 stars for the flowers ... a few less for the cakes.......2004-09-02
Although, in all fairness, he is not writing this (or any other book) focusing on the cakes. However, most of us who are practicing cake decorators rather than competing sugar flower artists eventually want to end up using these creations on or around a cake, and that's where this book, or any book by Alan Dunn, is unable to inspire.
He's clearly a botanist at heart who's simply chosen a rather unusual medium in which to pursue his calling. His floral sprays are amazingly life-like and I can't imagine anyone criticising his talent in that regard.
However, his work, and Lesley Herbert's work, need to be tempered somewhat by someone wild and loose like Anna Von Marburg. Rolling all of their talents into one decorator would result in cake decorating as close to perfection as one might want -- cakes which are not only a thrill to look at but also appetite whetting as well (a much-overlooked facet of professional cake decorating). Alone, however, Dunn and Herbert produce technically stunning but somewhat sterile work.
Still, I own many of their books and wouldn't be without them!
Many American designers must simply be puzzled by their work -- the fondant purity with the stiff floral spray is so unlike what's coming out of the States. I suggest cake decorators get ahold of books from all parts of the world to really get inspired and certainly as far as English design goes, no collection would be complete without Dunn's work.
By the way, all of his books are handsome, carefully-produced, well-edited, high-quality, and full of generous, honest tips. He should be applauded for this indeed.
Beautiful Even If You Never Make the Flowers.......2003-03-24
This is a beautiful coffee table book even if you don't ever try to make the flowers. Of course, like most sugar flower making books, this one makes it look easy, but it is extremely difficult and time-consuming even if you have all the tools and have an artistic bent. I bought all the stuff and it just sits in a drawer since the learning curve is great... and I can do almost anything artistic or creative.
Alan Dunn Does it Again!.......2000-09-04
This book is a gold mine of information! Creative, beautiful cakes in the European style, gorgeous gumpaste flowers, plenty of photos, and easy to read instructions make this book a perfect addition to your cake book collection. Grab this book and you will be inspired!!

Wealth of Information for Backcountry Horseback Riding.......2004-11-01
This book provides essential information for anyone riding horses. It does focus on trail riding and backcountry horsemanship but the information provided can be applied to any equine endeavor.
The book presents trail riding and backcountry horsemanship as its own discipline and stresses the importance of having a mount that allows both the rider and the horse to have an enjoyable experience on the trail. Perhaps the point that struck me the most is stressing that a good trail horse is not a barrel, reining, or dressage washout---but an athlete in it's own arena of mountains, streams, deserts, and woodlands.
I have been fortunate enough to meet Dan and I actually have purchased two of his Tennessee Walkers as my current trail mounts. They take me everywhere, from arid sagebrush to mountain passes and all points in between. Their ability as athletic, willing, and stable backcountry companions is evidence that Dr. Aadland has the knowledge of what it takes to breed and train a horse designed for the trail, no matter where it should take you.
The Complete Trail Horse presents the reader with this wealth of information in an enjoyable, readable format.

Customer Reviews:
If you have one of the books below, DON'T BUY THIS BOOK.......2004-06-22
I am so tired of the way Rockport repackages their older books into new ones. I bought this book, sight unseen, online, and I'm extremely sorry that I did so. This book is a simple republication of projects from three prior Rockport titles: "Stamp Artist's Project Book" and "Stamp Art" both by Sharilyn Miller and "Stamping Tricks for Scrapbooks" by Betty Auth. What a rip-off. They have done this before...republishing projects from old books into compilations, slapping on new covers and selling these as "new" titles. Don't be fooled as I was...avoid buying this book if you have the other titles!

Very interesting and the subject well researched.......2000-10-07
Being a descendant of Juan Fermin de Aycinena I became interested in knowing more about the family background. This book not only consists about a biography but also gives a very well elaborated description of the geographical, social, political, religious and economic situation of Guatemala. In a strong manner, the book connects his place of birth with Juan Fermin's "mission" to Central America. I've always been curious about my family's past, and through my grandfather and parents I have been able to know about it. This book opened an even larger door to the first Aycinena who went to Guatemala.
