More like, my CRAZY girl.......2005-01-17
I couldn't stop reading. I just had to find out if he would ever stand up to this crazy girl!
Warning! There are some sexual doodles in this book, like anthropomorphized (sp?) penises. And the back cover depicts tiny 'chibi' characters with dildos.
Book Description
Celiac Disease (CD) is one of the most common and under–diagnosed, hereditary autoimmune condition in the U.S. today. Recent studies reveal that 1 in every 100 people suffer from CD. And 97% of them are undiagnosed. The average time to diagnosis is currently 9 years. In the case of CD (also known as gluten intolerance), the body damages or destroys the very mechanism that enables us to digest food. The primary target of injury is the small intestine. Triggered by gluten, the main protein found in wheat, rye and barley, the disease damages the small intestine so that it is unable to properaly absorb nutrients.
This is the first authoritative guide to CD co–authored by an internationally renowned specialist on the disease. Dr. Peter Green and writer Rory Jones help readers to identify the symptoms, understand their diagnosis and cope with the challenges of living with CD. Incredibly comprehensive, yet accessible and user friendly, this book covers the disease from a medical, dietary and psychological standpoint. It explores all aspects of CD from the often "silent" symptoms and proper diagnostic procedures to the many related conditions and specific diet. The book also includes appendices on related articles and books of interest, medical contact information and a list national CD support groups.
Customer Reviews:
I Must Have if You're Living with Celiac Disease.......2007-10-07
This is a good, informative, layman language book. It gives you such a good grounding in how your body is responding to gluten and how your body works. It will answer most of your questions and give you a solid base from which to make decisions about your treatment and your health. It is a must have for Celiacs, or anyone who loves one.
Good Data.......2007-06-28
THIS BOOK SHOULD BE READ BY ALL FAMILY DOCTORS> The book contains information on how Gluten effects the body in ways other than just the intestenal tract.
Insightful.......2007-06-27
After having Celiac Disease for almost 25 years, this book was a good review of the state of medicine, thoughts on linkages to other auto-immune diseases as well as diseases in general and the "revised" celiac diet that is used today vs the one I have been on which was stricter.
Excellent celiac book.......2007-05-13
This book, A Hidden Epidemic, by Dr. Peter Green is a very useful book and has much information in it about celiac. I have recommended this to several people new to celiac and they too agree that this has so much information in it relating to celiac. Very helpful.
Leads to an understanding of the current knowledge..........2007-05-12
Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic was an excellent source of information regarding the topic. Written with what seems to be the most current state of understanding of this condition, this book was penned with the layman in mind. However, there is enough detail in the book to challenge the reader to do some research on their own. It is easy to read and if you are afflicted with any of the celiac-related conditions, you will burn through the book quickly. If you have or are interested in Celiac conditions, this book should be your starting place.

Customer Reviews:
SO not helpful this book!.......2007-01-31
What I wanted: a book to help me plan a party. What this means to me: ideas, themes, how-to advice for those of us who don't live in LA or NYC, recipes for those whose supermarkets don't carry 16 kinds of wasabe --WHATEVER! There should have been much more info on how to organize food (what goes with what), not just generic info generally, not suggestions for fancy-schmancy famous folks, and by the way, putting "celebrity" pix in the book at its release party ...tacky beyond words. This book is the worst book, most uninteresting book, least informative or useful book I have ever, EVER bought. If anyone wants a used copy, let me know. ;-)
Fine, if you're a snob with an unlimited budget. And you care more about what people think than how much fun they're having........2006-04-05
This book should be entitled, "How to Plan the Ultimate Party where money is no object if you can afford everything except the party planner". Or "Party Planning for rich jerks by snobby designers."
Parties are about the creativity of the host! Not engraved invitations.
Awesome Party Planning.......2005-07-23
This book gets down to the nitty gritty of party planning. What an amazing help it was!
Perfect guide for the perfect party!!.......2005-07-20
This book successfully answers all party planning questions for all types of parties and all types of planners. Great recipies, fun ideas....perfect reference!!
Best Entertaining Book Ever!.......2005-07-20
What a fun book! It's so easy to use and is packed with great information. It's full of creative ideas that are so easy to implement yourself. I can't wait to try them all!

For Aspiring "Bark"itects .......2007-03-09
As a lifelong cat lover, I normally would not have glanced at this book, but my nephew, now a Jr. in high school, has chosen Architecture as his career. That, plus his love of dogs, caused me to have a look at the contents of this book as a possible fun gift for him. Glad I did! The imagination, the styling, the artistry, and of course, the LOVE that obviously went into the creation of this book, proved to be a great gift choice for my nephew. Even if there area no canines sharing your life, this would be a great coffee-table book to keep on display for friends and guests to enjoy.
Awesome homes for dogs........2004-08-24
This book isn't a how-to; some of these designs probably wouldn't be too practical for the average dog person to build. What it is is a fascinating and fun look at the inspired creations of some of the world's architects with the purpose of providing shelters for dogs, and even a few historical facts, figures, and photos. A terrific coffee table book, Barkitecture is valuable as something to peruse with a friend at leisure and determine which styles you like and dislike. There is a wealth of doghouses found in these pages, proving the author's committment to scouring the globe for all the most brilliant and/or puzzling ones. The photographs are excellent; some of these canine casas have exquisite detail. A couple of them look genuinely uncomfortable, I must admit, and others just make you wonder why anyone would ever even dream up such an odd mansion (or monstrosity). Others are just fun to look at. The Muttropolitan Museum features six paintings of famous dog composers and opera stars, all with clever names. Some are funky and colorful. Some are luxorious. Some defy description, and some are just remarkable; the bone-covered !!!*SIT*!!! has photos of dogs on the walls and is painted like a real house. Foreign Correspondent is notably decorated in curtains and pillows. Some houses are culturally inspired, and Red Rover even has a pool attached. How can one beat that? Truly this is a book worth flipping through at least once. You might even get a few ideas for your own dog.
Great Ideas and Photos.......2003-06-24
This book contains great ideas for doghouses. They are unique and truly amazing. The photos provide great inspiration. However, the book does not contain any actual plans to build a doghouse.
great, but not practical.......2001-12-07
It's a great book but most of the the dog house plans are not practical,I was looking for something like a presidential white house dog house or something like that. Good book though!
All Paws Up For Barkitecture!.......2000-08-19
Barkitecture was a great book! I was watching Animal Planet's Amazing Tails, and I saw the story behind the doghuse on the cover. I knew I had to read it and it was awesome!
Book Description
Bow WOW
! Man’s best friend deserves a home of his own. Build one good enough to prove to your puppy that being in the doghouse can be a wonderful thing. The experts on the Barkitecture series have two dozen fabulous options, plus lots of advice on choosing the best one for your particular dog. They ask the smart questions, so owners can do right by their pet: How large is the animal? Does it stay indoors or out? Does the doghouse need to provide protection from extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow? And the styles are smashing, including a rustic log cabin, exotic pagoda, or adorable tent. Each project appears in color, with meticulous instructions, how-to photos, and tips on customizing the designs.
A Selection of the F&W Book Club.
Matthew Klarich and Jeff Woods are in their second season of designing fun, one-of-a-kind dog houses for DIY Network’s Barkitecture show. They both serve as producers of the show.

I haven't seen the show, Barkitecture on DIY, but this book is a find for any dog owner who wants to demonstrate their creativity.
It has instructions to make your own unique dog houses. How about a miniature log cabin for man's best friend? There are 24 houses to choose from, including a pagoda, a pup tent and an air-stream trailer. There are photos and tips on further customizing of the homes.
Doggie homes rocks!.......2006-10-27
Colorful photos, complete instructions, and even a few projects that can be completed in a day. I highly this book to dog lovers and do-it-yourselfers.

great gift for dog lovers.......2000-12-16
I thought the "Barkitecture" book was a hoot and a half. This postcard collection is great fun, too. I've given several as gifts. And every time I send one of the cards to someone, they always call to ask where the pictures came from. I really recommend it!
Buyer Beware.......2000-12-12
While "Barkitecture" is a wonderful and amusing compendium of interesting and even historic canine abodes (including a rare design by architect Frank Lloyd Wright), this "paperback" version is not that book. This publication is a collection of bound together postcards featuring photographs from the hardcover book. If you enjoyed the original book and want a to share some of the designs with others, this might be a great purchase. If you're looking for the paperback version of the original book, this is not it!

Not as good as her Miniature Gardens book........2005-09-13
Simple projects, but nothing groundbreaking that isn't available elsewhere.
Book Description

Inside, readers will find step-by-step instructions for over 350 fun, fascinating projects in 1/12 scale, including kitchenware, food, crockery, cleaning equipment, toys, board games, floral arrangements and more.

Customer Reviews:
Varied and detailed.......2007-03-03
I took this book out of the local library because I am in search of projects to build in a larger scale (about 1:3.5) and wanted to get ideas from the dollhouse hobby. It is so lovely to see the photos of all the different completed items put together in a scene, it gives one lots of good ideas and inspirations. Many of the designs are made simply so that they can be copied exactly by the amateur, or expanded upon by the expert. Doll house making is such a varied art, and there is room for many styles. "The Artist's Workshop" chapter is also rather amusing, and "The Illustrator's Studio" is cute. Those and the Conservatory are the ones I personally would most be looking to emulate.
I think there must be some petty gossip and whatnot going on in this miniaturist hobby. There are some exceedingly immature reviews that have been posted below and I hope that amazon gets around to removing them. What do these persons want, some kind of textbook to copy exactly so that everyone's work will look alike? Such a lack of professionalism only makes the hobby at large look bad to the rest of the world. This is a fine book and I would love to see any of these things "live" at a show.
Another Addition to Your Miniature Library.......2005-09-28
Yet another excellent volume to add to your Miniature Library. This book also by Kath Dalmeny, is perfect for those wanting to make their own accessories instead of the commercial items available. Lots of very useful templates to take the guesswork out of those boxes, crates, labels etc. Ideal for those who like constructing things!
Amazing Projects.......2003-10-10
This book is packed with the most amazing craft projects, Kath Dalmeny's attention to detail simply breathtaking. I have her next book and if you want to make your own dolls house furniture, rather than buy it in a store these are the books for you.
The stuff may be a bit European looking to American eyes but that simply adds to the charm. Is she English? I guess so with cricket bats and the like maybe she can get over here and produce an American version with mini bleachers and baseball bats!
To the reviewer from Chicago, if you can do better then I look forward to YOUR book!
My recommendation is buy the book, get inspired and try your hand.
Perhaps I'm just too fussy?.......2003-07-29
While this may be a good place to start if you are new to the dollhouse hobby, on the whole I was dissapointed with this book. The instructions are simple, and easy enough to follow, and there are neat little pictures to photocopy, but the projects themselves are not as high quality as those from many of my other dollhouse books. Great for those who are dabbling with the hobby, but for more experienced mini fans, I would give this one a miss.
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!.......2003-02-11
This book is absolutely fantastic, it has many projects with easy instructions. (as long as you have the necessary supplies) But if you do its a piece of cake!!

Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-07-10
This is a book every miniaturist/needlework lover should have in his/her library. It's full of great projects for every room of the dollhouse. I highly reccomend it.
tiny treasures.......2005-09-22
simply wonderful. I spent hours just looking at the pictures showing the samples. i'm looking forward to begin my first work. Great expectations for tiny masterpieces
Wonderful book.......2004-10-04
This is a wonderful book, but I'm a little wary of giving it too good a review. The projects all look great, but I found a mistake in the first project that I tried. If you work the Turkoman rug exactly as the chart, it will not turn out the same as the picture. The border, in fact, will not even be symmetrical (as the picture is). As an experienced crafter, I picked up on this and was able to correct it, but I was disappointed to find the error in the first place. I look forward to trying other projects and hope they are error-free.
Fantastic.......2004-01-19
I expected the tiny samplers & rugs, but tiny crocheted & knitted clothing?! Excellent, excellent, excellent from beginning to end! Too many wonderful things to name.
A wonderful book.......2003-07-30
This book had nearly everything I had been looking for. I've had it for a good while and have made things from it. The patterns and instructions are clear and easy to understand. Since it was published in England there are some conversions that sometimes need to be done but the only disappointment I had was in how few crochet projects there were in the book. Even so, it inspired me to invent my own. Everything else is covered, from drapes to carpets, cushions to bed hangings. A really excellent book.
Book Description
From a charming French café to an Arabian tent decorated with exotic rugs and wall hangings, this delightful compilation of 22 unique projects, done in standard 1/12 size, will enchant doll house enthusiasts and other miniaturists. All that’s needed is some basic equipment and the desire to create imaginative miniature worlds. A Swedish Bedroom features red-and-white gingham fabric throughout, while the Floral Morning Room has scented forget-me-not wallpaper and a doll seated at a tiny skirted table set for tea. You can also craft a greenhouse, Japanese garden, general store, or theater box, along with pretty polymer clay people to populate each lovely space you make.

From Barbara Kruger's screenprinted feminist billboards to Felix Gonzalez-Torres's stacks of posters featuring head shots of people killed by guns; from Elizabeth Murray's colorful abstract lithographs to Anselm Kiefer's woodcuts embedded in Germany history; from Lucian Freud's moody figure study etchings to Donald Judd's rigid, monochromatic, serially geometric woodcuts--Thinking Printis a broad, ambitious, and varied survey of printed art from the last two decades . Exploring the role of prints, deluxe illustrated books, inexpensive artist's books, and editioned multiples in contemporary art, this exceptionally comprehensive volume covers 235 works by some 147 artists, and includes essays on techniques, formats, and themes, as well as biographic notes on all of the artists and publishers. Originally published on the occasion of a 1996 exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Thinking Print-expansive thinking /curating by MOMA's Wye.......2002-01-13
"Thinking Print: books to billboards..." was a groundbreaking late 20th c. exhibition curated by Deborah Wye, a most thorough and original cultural /art historian. Wye is a curator with a fantasitc eye and an obsession for producing exhibitions and catalogs which explore their subject in-depth. In this particular instance, Wye is re-examining definitions and boundaries for the print medium in a manner that had yet to be accomplished. Her passion and scholarship regarding print, as a medium of expression and a medium for dissemination permates the pages. This catalog is a must have for libraries, as well as any serious artist, scholar or collector interested in printmaking from traditional to groundbreaking--from ink and paper to pixels.
Book Description
Victor Woods enjoyed a distinctly privileged childhood. Born to an affluent Chicago family -- the son of a Fortune 500 executive and a dedicated schoolteacher -- Woods attended all the best schools, and was never in want for anything. He lived safe in the bosom of a loving home. But like so many African Americans who came of age in post-segregation America, newly entitled to the benefits of racial integration, Woods felt alienated and enraged.
Frustrated by the lack of positive enforcement in his predominantly white community and school system, and his well-intentioned tough-love parents, Woods, at age fifteen, ran away from home and didn't look back. Fascinated by street life and fast money, he turned to petty theft before graduating to armed robbery and credit-card manufacturing. At the height of his larceny, he had amassed forty million dollars' worth of counterfeit credit cards. His high-stakes grifting eventually got the attention of the law and landed him in prison. Six years later, he was released from prison, where many moments of truth brought him to the realization that crime does indeed not pay and he needed to change his life.
Today Victor Woods stands as a man reborn, having dedicated his life and work to speaking to young people, motivating them to get on and stay on the straight and narrow. He tells his incredible story to help others sidestep the darkness and pain that once consumed him. In charting the winding path of his own hard-won journey toward redemption, Woods manages to reach out to readers with the startling emotional immediacy of a letter from an old friend. At once a bracing cautionary tale and a work sure to inspire readers from all walks, A Breed Apart is an invaluable work of penetrating honesty, depth, and passion.
Customer Reviews:
Quite A Journey.......2004-03-03
I read this book in one sitting which is not something I have done in years. Once I started reading Mr. Woods Journey to Redemption I was fascinated by how someone who had come from so much especially a BLACK MAN could travel such an horrible road by choice, by adrenaline and not really by need (which is the reasoning one hears for so much of criminal activity). The message of this book spoke volumes. It did not whitewash the excitement and rush the author got from his criminal activity but it also did not sugarcoat his prison experience. This book should be a must read for teenage boys although I fear some of the graphic descriptions might prevent that. This book is magnificent even though it does venture into preaching at the end which a factor Mr. Woods can be forgiven given his "preaching" heritage.
