Book Description
"Mrs. Pollifax gives Agatha Christie's Miss Marple a rival to reckon with."
TORONTO STAR
A secret agent like no other, Mrs. Pollifax was leading a very full life: Garden Club, karate, yoga--and a little spying now and then. This time the mysterious Mr. Carstairs sent her to Switzerland--to a famous health resort where the world's intelligence agents had gathered. Her mission: to track down a missing package of plutonium--just enough to make a small atomic bomb. It was a job that suited Mrs. Pollifax's talents. She's good with people and even better at sniffing out their secrets. But it was not until she became enchanted with Robin, the young jewel thief, that her new adventure really began....
Customer Reviews:
no rest at the Swiss resort for Mrs Pollifax.......2007-03-16
There's some missing plutonium, and the CIA has a mission for Mrs Pollifax. She goes to Switzerland to a "clinic", which is really a mountain resort. While there, she befriends a young Arab boy and a British cat burglar... and discovers danger of course. Much of the first half of this book is slow, but once she finds a dead body, the action picks up.
Good Clean Fun!.......2003-08-14
Mrs. Pollifax an intrepid senior citizen who works for the CIA, is sent to a Swiss medical clinic to investigate stolen Plutonium. Along the way, she gets involved with a mysterious jewel thief, a precocious child, and sunbathing diva. Can Mrs. Pollifax discover WHO is smuggling the plutonium, and WHY? Or is she destined to be just another casualty at the health spa?
I really enjoyed "A Palm for Mrs. Pollifax." Mrs. Pollifax, is a kind, engaging character whose outgoing personality and homey adivce, endear her to friends and enemies alike. In particular I enjoyed the character of Hafez and his grandmother.
This was a great edition to the Mrs. Pollifax series, sure to delight readers young AND old.
Mrs. Pollifax in Switzerland.......2003-02-26
There is some plutonium missing and Mr. Carstairs of the CIA decides that Mrs. Pollifax is the one to find it. He dispatches her to an upscale clinic in Switzerland, where he suspects the
contraband has been hidden. She begins a careful investigation of the guests at the clinic and soon befriends a young man and woman, and a young boy and his grandmother. She soon discovers that very few of them are who they claim to be and she becomes involved in intrigue with men who plan to overthrow the government of a small country. She, of course, displays the courage and ingenuity which Mr. Carstairs has learned to depend on, and she leads her outnumbered friends into the adventure of their lives. This is a delightful series.
Another good Mrs. Pollifax outing.......2002-02-02
(Based on the audiotape, no longer available (?) )
For once Carstairs sends Mrs. Pollifax into the thick of it, to a Swiss spa where some plutonium thieves are thought to lurk. Once again she meddles in side issues, in this case a child who seems strangely frightened, which turns out to be at the heart of the whole situation. This is also where she meets jewel thief Robin and helps turn him to the straight and narrow. Another entertaining outing, well-read by Rosenblat, as usual.
My First Mrs. Pollifax..........2001-03-19
I LOVED this book. This was my first Mrs. Pollifax novel. I couldn't put the book down. Dorothy Gilman does a fabulous job creating the relationships. I especially enjoyed Mrs. Pollifax's unique relationships with both the boy Hafez and Robin, the cat burgler. The way Dorothy Gilman describes the settings of Lake Geneva, the clinic, the castle and the chalet all provide a balance of relaxation and adventure for the reader. I can't wait to read my next Mrs. P novel.... one problem.... which to read first?

Fantasy Success or Failure?.......2005-11-08
I have been a fan of Fantasy and Science Fiction novels for quite some time. When hearing about this novel, I was skeptic because I did not know anything about the author's writing ability. After reading this piece, I was pleasantly surprised. The author's writing style is great. He has enough detail and imagery that you can see the world unfold yet he gets to the point so that the momentum of the book is fast paced and not monotonous.
The book itself is great. If you are a fan of Fantasy/Sci-Fi, I highly recommend this book. The storyline is great and the ending of the book was shocking. If you are new to Fantasy fiction, this book is a blend of Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter with an original storyline.
I loved the book so much that I had to order the 2nd book already.
A must read........2005-08-25
As an avid fan of fantasy literature, I'd have to say this book was excellent. There is a lot of rich detail with every setting, and the characters are very fleshed out. I'd recommend this book to people who are both veterans of fantasy literature or new to it. This book leaves you wanting more.
Start of a good series.......2005-08-21
A great blend of gods, and of a boy learning of power and the hazards that come with power. This book has it's dark moments, it's not just light and goodness. I was especially surprised by the ending. I'm looking forward to reading a sequel.
A real surprise.......2005-08-07
This was the first novel I have read by this author, so I was not sure what to expect. Last Incarnation is a nice piece of fantasy literature. The story was exciting and original, though with many familiar elements from the fantasy genre. Thoroughly enjoyable from cover to cover. If you like fantasy novels, you will really love this one.
Action throughout!.......2005-04-17
I really liked how the idea of reincarnation was combined with a fantasy story in this book. Of course there are elves, fairies, Gods, and shape changers in typical fantasy style, but the story tying all this together is better than the usual read. I'd highly recommend this book!

Could I Really Be That Simple?.......2007-10-01
Dr. Johanna Budwig's book is a must read for anyone contemplating the realities of cause and effect and disease in the human body. This woman unlocked the secret to health and longevity over fifty years ago, and the medical community and the drug companies have kept the knowledge from us to secure their profits.
The book is translated from her native German and therefore, a bit challenging to read in context of language. But an excellent compilation of several of her speeches through the years.
Buy the book, read it, make the change and live.
Who made up the title of this book???.......2007-09-25
I heard about the simple cancer remedy of cottage cheese and flaxseed oil of Budwig so when I got the chance to read what she herself wrote, I immediately got to read this book.
First thing that struck me was, why this title? Is it some marketing for flaxseed oil? I find it strange because getting to the principle of Budwig's recommendations in this book, it's simply the need for omega-3 fatty acids and sulfur containing amino acids.
The best source of omega-3 fatty acids are fish oils, including cod liver oil. Budwig acknowledged this also in this book, and the only reason she hesitates to recommend fish oils is because there are products which might be contaminated with pollutants. Flaxseed oil is simply one of the plant oils that have high omega-3 content (now being replaced by chia?), but like most plant oils, it also contains omega-9s, which still has to be balanced by omega-3s. This problem is absent with fish oils because they don't contain omega-9s.
And as far as fats go, Budwig even acknowledged the benefits of coconut oil in this book, though it seems she did not elaborate much on this and I assume it's because there aren't many coconuts in her area of the world. It was part of several of her recipe recommendations, though.
The protein source actually recommended in this book is quark, which is more like yogurt instead of cottage cheese. While Budwig did accept cottage cheese as a substitute, yogurt could be a better choice. Lactobacilli in products like yogurt and quark can be immunostimulants.
This book really shows what Budwig had on her mind, but we should not get bogged down about the title (flaxseed oil marketing?), or the common concept associated with Budwig (flaxseed oil and cottage cheese). The real essence, as this book clearly shows, is the need for omega-3s and the sulfur-containing amino acids. And definitely, flaxseed is only one of many choices, in spite of this book's title.
I would have given it a 4-star rating, but the title did not reflect the book's contents.
Amazing.......2007-07-23
It's amazing how something so easy to do can heal you. If you or anyone around you has cancer this is it; not only for cancer but for other illneses.
Great Book.......2007-07-10
Great book with very helpful information. And seller delivered as promised. The book was in excellent condition.
Dietary Cancer cure.......2006-07-26
I'm not a doctor nor a scientist, but I've been studying optimal health and wellness for over 5 years now. Most people seem to have this notion that only medical doctors know what's best for our bodies, but from my research, I beg to differ.
I've always been a strong proponent for good nutrition, and Dr Budwig's book seems to be right on point. As she says don't let the simplicity fool you.
I'm not going to get into the argument that some reviewers are getting into about the scientific explaination for static electricity, and electrons and all of that, because unless you have an advanced degree in electrical engineering, I think most people are talking waaaay over their respective heads. Lets just keep it simple. From my studies I do know a couple of things: We alll need the basic food groups to survive and they are, fats (or lipids) proteins, and carbohydrates. So, in keeping with Dr. Budwig's observations, if we can get the most absorbable and usable form of those three, it makes complete sense to me that it should improve one's health.
It appears that Flax oil contains a highly absorbable amount of Omega 3's, (essential fatty acids) which are sorely missing from our American diets. It also appears that cottage cheese, (or yogurt) contains some of the most absorbable forms of protein. But, according to Dr Budwig, it's when the two are combined that really makes a difference, because the protein makes the fats in the oil water soluble, which means that they are broken down into a form that is absorbable by the body.
I don't think you have to be a rocket scientist to comprehend that.
I thought this book was a wonderful quick read that makes perfect scientific sense. I'm always a little leary of people that are trying to push one product or another, along with their supposed ground-breaking health discoveries. But this proposed addition to ouir diets is very inexpensive, easy and all-natural. For some reason I find it much easier to believe a seven-time Nobel Prize nominee, and one of the most respected researchers in Europe who's not pushing some product or supplement, than some reviewer who tries to discount her theories but doesn't even leave his name.

Customer Reviews:
I love this book, And I'm A guy.......2005-05-20
For a guy that cooks this is the perfect book. Whether as a gift for a guy friend that is single or for a boyfriend or husband who likes to cook or would like to know how, this book should be number one on the list. From very easy layman's term breakdowns of every recipe inside to what type and pics of music to play, or not to play at dinner, this book has it all!
rewarding.......2005-01-25
I am now not only relieved of not always doing the cooking, but actually thoroughly enjoying the whole experience. Dinners at my boyfriends are now such a joy, the food is great and the reference are very amusing. So glad someone finally made dinner making is easy, fun and rewarding.I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoy my new beverage of choice. Made from 100% organic soy, taste just like coffee and no caffeine.
Finally, I got rid of that wired up feeling all day and feeling great. Look for it on the net by googling "s o yfee".these dudes actually have good taste in music. i really can't believe they did this. a truly unique book
Win Her is a winner!.......2005-01-16
Take it from me, this book delivers exactly what it promises! It is well written, easy to follow, witty and clear. Congratulations to the authors!
Overlooked courtship element gets a fair (and funny) shake.......2004-05-24
So you just graduated from college and you're ready to impress your new acquaintance and perhaps move up a base or two. What better way to kick things off than a creatively combined meal complete with wine and music? It's hard to go wrong with the guy-friendly directions and really good recipes. Definitely worthy of graduation gift.
Some great ideas in a very funny book.......2004-05-14
I've given this book to several guy friends and they've loved it! It's really funny, lots of guy-speak, but with some great recipes and some really good ideas for the dating-challenged male. The recipes are from a woman who's a personal chef to some celebs in LA, but they're easy to follow even if defrosting is all the cooking you do. The book also has this cool section on great dinner date music, so even if you do defrost something, the background music will make her think you're a classy dude.

Customer Reviews:
Doggy Days by Borgenicht.......2007-09-24
A pretty book, but NOT useful.
I was expecting a rich resource of inventive games to engage my very active non-fetching dog. Instead, this small book is in the genre of cutsie cat books: the doggie illustrations are adorable (hence the 2 star rating), but content is largely unserious. Nothing wrong with this genre...as long as you know what you're getting.
Here are some examples: Relax with Your Dog ("Curl up around your pooch, with your belly to her back") // Watch Out the Window ("Your dog spends hours staring out the front window watching the cats, cars, and walkers stroll by. Join her, and find hours of enjoyment") // Play "Smurf Dog" (paint your dog entirely blue) // Play "Salvador Doggy" ("dip his tail in some paint [or] tape or tie a paint brush to your dog's tail") // Vacuum Attack ("Turn the tables on your dog and chase him around the house with your vacuum") // Surfing ("Take Rufus out with you on your [surf] board and see how he takes to it.").
Pretty Good.......2003-01-19
As long as you don't pay too much, this gives you some great ideas.....and some silly ones, that do NOT appeal to me, but might aPPEAL to others. It also has a few recipes for treats etc.
Some of the indoor exercises are simple ones we might not have thought of and lead you to think up more. As long as you pick a low price, it is DEFINITELY worth it!!! I liked it and am using some of the ideas myself with my Elmo.

Customer Reviews:
An excellent resource for the antique wrist watch collector..........2006-10-02
....A thorough explanation of both the history of the wrist watch as well its mechanical evolution. Direct, easy, approachable, yet thorough, with a significant number of illustrations and photos of every description of watch from all the major European manufacturers from the early years thru modern times. If you collect wrist watches, this book is the Gold Standard.
In-depth guide meant especially for collectors .......2005-06-11
Now in a newly revised fifth edition, Wristwatches: History Of A Century's Development by Helmut Kahlert, Richard Muhe and Gisbert L. Brunner, is an extraordinary, high-quality, in-depth guide meant especially for collectors but also filled with fascinating information for lay readers curious about the technological, sociological, and economic factors that have not only contributed to the development of the wristwatch, but made the portable clock an important part of world history. Over 1990 black-and-white and color photographs abound throughout this lavish compendium, which includes extensively detailed essays on the origin of the wristwatch, its distinctive features versus the pocket watch, its basic construction and function, self-winding watches, special types of wristwatches, preservation and care of wristwatches, and much more. Express focus is given to various name brands and types of wristwatches throughout the past century, with many photos, capsule descriptions, and sample prices for classic watches. Wristwatches: History Of A Century's Development is truly an outstanding reference for hobbyists and historians alike.
Rise and Fall and the Rise Again of Mechanical Watchmaking.......2000-08-18
Wristwatches' is an excellent survey of the huge variety of watches that been developed this century. Highlights includes a consise history of the changes in design over the last 100 years and brief insights into how particular complications are constructed. However, for the english reader, for this is a translation from the original German editions, it has a few faults in it's germanocentricity. All of the historical advertising material displayed in the book is in German. It would have been more appropriate to include at least a few english language advertisments as it gives a lot of flavour to such a book. In addition there is a complete section on German wristwatch development which is a bit dry if this is not your particular interest. A major editorial fault is that the vast majority of photos have lost their numbering and you are left trying to match up the descriptions to each picture. For such a book this fault is a pity. However it is still one of the best guides for vintage and modern watch enthusiasts as it covers a vast range of models with a very useful, and fairly accurate, price guide.

Book Description
Painted with Thread is the catalogue accompaniment to the exhibition of the same name at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. This richly illustrated book emphasizes the art inherent in embroidery and contextualizes the examples within aesthetic movements. The objects and designs are myriad: "pictoral embroidery," wool and cotton sailor's pants embroidered with a running whorl stitch resembling tattoo art. Winding vines of flowers in full-bloom rendered to near botanical precision. Samplers sewn by schoolgirls, table covers, fire screens, valances as domestic artifacts with a resonance far beyond the home and the homespun. Painted with Thread presents a breathtaking array of historic American needlework.

Best Whistler Book I've Seen.......2005-09-12
I had been looking for a Whistler book, and this was simply the best one that I was able to track down. It includes the color images of the artist's best-klnown works, including his portraits, nocturnes, and etchings. The text is informative and comprehensive. My only complaint is that many of the images were smaller than I would have liked. When I get a book like this, the artwork is the main draw--not the text. More full-page images would have been nice.
The artist as the perfectionist.......2001-03-13
This book does an excellent job of exploring the many contradictions of the life and career of an artist who was both his own biggest fan/promoter and his own harshest critic. The book presents the many talents (artist, etcher, interior designer to name a few) and his many flaws (vain, arrogant, bitter and self serving attitude) while still showing the human side of the artist . The illustrations are complete and a glorious showing of both his popular works as well as his less known pieces. The triad of this book, "Diabolical Designs" and "Beyond the Myth" reveal an artist who deserves much more critical and popular attention.
