In a seemingly random event, forensic anthropologist Lindsay Chamberlain is attacked and left for dead. Buried in a shallow grave in the woods, she manages to escape, although she suffers from loss of memory as a result of the ordeal. When Lindsay's memory returns, it is incomplete. She copes with the trauma by ignoring it, and she allows the authorities to handle the investigation. As the probe quickly comes to a dead end, however, the assault looms like a dark cloud over her peace of mind. Lindsay joins excavations at an 1830s farm site on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Unlike previous digs where Lindsay has worked, this site is an unhappy one. Crew members are on edge and argue among themselves, and the site director takes an instant dislike to Lindsay. Furthermore, the principal investigator is under suspicion of murdering a local resident and stealing valuable papers from her. If that weren't enough, Lindsay and the crew are lodged in a haunted house, and even though she is the only crew member who doesn't believe in ghosts, she is the only one who sees them. When very old sealed lead coffins dating from the 1700s are discovered, Lindsay becomes so excited with the discovery that she momentarily forgets her own troubles. However, her relief is short-lived, for inside one of the coffins are the disturbing remains of a woman who has something frighteningly in common with Lindsay. Then when one of the crew disappears, no one but Lindsay is worried or seems to care. If she doesn't figure out what's happening around her, she might lose her sanity, or worse, her life.

Sorry to say I could not bring myself to read more than one quarter of this book. The characters are cardboard cutouts and the dialog amateurishly written. The archeologists in the story behave like children and seem to have no more than a grade school education. I stuck with the book for as long as I did because the house at the archeological dig was supposed to be haunted, and I love a good ghost story, but the writing was so poor and the characters were so silly and boring. After the main character mentioned for the second time that her job was so dangerous and that she had been shot, stabbed, kidnapped, almost drowned, lost in a cave, and buried alive, I just had to quit! UNBELIEVABLE!!! I just couldn't read any more!

I have really enjoyed every book in this series and this may be the best to date. I never re-read a mystery. Once I know who-done-it there isn't much point in reading the story a second time. Beverly Connors books are the exception to my rule. There is enough excitement and enough detail to keep you going back a second or even third time.
I gave my original copy of AIRTIGHT CASE to a friend (who loved it). Now I have to buy a new copy so that I can get my Lindsay Chamberlain fix before the next novel in this series is published.

On a weeknight. Knowing I had to get up and go to work in the morning. So be warned -- start this book when you know you'll have to read it nonstop (like a beach?)
It took about one sentence for me to get into the book. The action begins immediately -- archeologist Lindsay Chamberlain is in a hospital with amnesia, and some guy who claims to be her fiance wants to take her home, but she knows something's wrong and tries to get away from him... well, you get the idea.
Before long, the action shifts to an archeological dig in Tennessee just outside Smoky Mountains National Park. The crew on the dig are having major problems with a horribly belligerant site manager and lots of in-fighting. Somehow or another, these two stories have to come together, and they do, around archeologist Lindsay Chamberlain.
I highly recommend this book -- I think it's the best book I've read so far this year.

Lindsay Chamberlain, forensic anthropologist, is buried alive in a shallow grave in East Tennessee in the woods. She manages to escape, but she suffers from amnesia. Even when her memory returns, it is not complete.
She joins an excavation at an 1830s farm site. It is located on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. She loves the Smokies, but her recent assault is always on her mind causing her to have trouble concentrating and relaxing.
Claire Burke, the site director, causes tension among the crew. She is also very hostile to Lindsay. Drew Van Horne, the principal investigator, is suspected of murdering Mary Susan Tidwell and stealing valuable documents from her.
Lindsay's boss, Lewis, asks her to look into the allegations against Drew. Lindsay is uncomfortable with this, but finally agrees.
Two sealed lead coffins from the 1700s are discovered during the excavation. The dig becomes a big find. When they open the first coffin, they find the remains of a woman who appears to have something in common with Lindsay. One of the crew goes missing. Now Lindsay feels to regain her sanity, and possibly her life, she must solve this mystery.
I am not a history buff, but I truly love this series. I find the locations to be interesting. I always learn something new. Ms. Connor describes the archaeology in a way that I can understand and it has so much reality to it. Her characters are very believable, and the interaction between them is also very realistic.
I always enjoy reading this series. Lindsay is a very likeable character and I enjoy finding out what she is up to in each book.
I highly recommend this book and this series. Whether you like history or not, you will find this to be an enjoyable read.

Someone recommended this series to me and since I'm on summer break I just plowed through all 5 books. I sincerely hope to be reading Lindsay's adventures for years to come. There's a whole planet for her to excavate and find mysteries to solve. The worst part about finishing Airtight Case was knowing that I didn't have another Beverly Connor novel to read after this one!
Connor does a great job of exploring the fascinating world of Archaeology and manages to create interesting characters that she reintroduces with each book. The surrounding characters grow along with her protagonist, Lindsay Chamberlain, a highly intellegent, well-educated, and curious archaeologist.
I hope Connor has more ideas for Lindsay Chamberlain's adventures and her publisher has the foresight to see them put into print.

Having to recently begin watching my cholesterol I purchased this book as I thought it would be the easiest and quickest book to help me understand eating and cookiing. However, I found it more confusing than anything else and very similar to any other book as far as technical information, though, it tried to be "cute" a lot. I would have been interested in sample menus and clearly posted lists showing foods to avoid etc. The chapters on 10 foods to avoid and 10 foods to include were interesting but not enough and too much information and disclaimers throughout the book.

This is a fantastic book for learning all about the cholestrol which is the reason why I bought it. However, after I read it, I was pleasantly surprised to find this book to be better than most popular "diet" books out there. It's straight forward (with humor!), contains lots of informative facts, many handy references (web sites, phone numbers, statistics etc.,), considerate of the reader and not out to please any interest groups (i.e., honest). What more can you ask for! This book is well worth your money.

Real Gulf Coast Cooking, Real Doggone Good.......2006-10-13
Gulf Coast Cooking is one of the five best Florida/Gulf Coast cookbooks out there. Well, that's my opinion. I've been updating my Amazon "So You'd Like to Guides" and I have one on Key Lime Pie. Take a look at it if you want. Anyway, I've included fifty cookbooks (the maximum Amazon will allow) in all my guides, so I've had a chance to go through my collection. And quite a collection it is, I've got hundreds of cookbooks and I go through them all the time. That's my problem, how to organize them. While going through what I wanted to include in my guides, I started separating them into piles, the ones I couldn't live without and the ones, if I absolutely had to, I could give away as gifts, you know, like if we moved into a very small place.
Gulf Coast Cooking is one I could never part with. I love the food and the atmosphere of Florida and the Gulf Coast, have spent a lot of time there, as I'm a sailing lady. I'm also somewhat of a gourmet chef. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, or galley, depending if I'm at home in the States or on our boat in the Caribbean. The recipes here will make your family, or even just yourself, if you live alone, drool. They are mouthwatering good and that's the truth.

Enjoyed the book, as our dog is new to us and we wanted to learn a little more about his background. The book was interesting in explaining the history of the breed. We were disappointed as we didn't see but one picture that actually looked like our dog. I guess he has a 'puppy cut' so those pictures were more familiar to us.

The Lsaha Apso is one of the lesser-know breeds which is increasing in popularity. This manual covers virtually every general topic on this breed that an owner (or veterinarian) would want to be knowledgeable of. It is, virtually, a brand new edition on the Lhasa Apso from Barrons, and has been entirely re-written from the earlier version.
This book provides a comprehensive picture of what this attractive breed is like (personality, durability, loyalty, compatibility) and if it is suitable for your lifestyle (their exotic, flowing haircoat does require some dedication to proper grooming).

Very Helpful For Lion Dog Lovers........2006-04-29
For a book of 125 pages this was very thorough. Everything was covered in a clear concise manner. The breeds origins, personality, grooming, puppies, training, breeding, care of, healthcare, standards, dog shows, exercise, and even building a kennel. It also has fine drawings, good color and b/w pictures. I found the chapters on the breeds history and personality to be the most instructive during the obedience training time I had with my Lhasa. They deserve the "Lion Dog name." My Benji was fearless in the extreme. They are truly UNIQUE DOGS, that deserve all the love and loyalty they give.

I'm considering getting a dog and all the long-haired breeds really appealed to me- especially the Lhas Apso. I got the book to find out more about them and I learned a lot. The book includes everythig you need to know about Lhasa Apsos, from housbreaking to Health care, from behavior to breeding. The pictures are adorable, and the text is informative. I loved this book and any other dog-lover will too.

This is a nice book for collecting the statehood coins. It has spaces for both Denver mint and Philly mint coins. What it lacks is any graphical depiction of of the US to use as an aid for the kids for whom you're presumably collecting the coins. But, the space for the complete coin set (both mints) is more important than a US map. Overall, a great organizer for collecting the coins...

This book is a good tool for anyone interested in learning how to arrange flowers. It has beautiful pictures and good explanations on mechanics and how to do most of the arrangements, however, the most difficult and therefore prettier do not have much instructions, so you also need to use a little imagination.

I love the book, and there is some great advice in it but I was looking for abit more of a "how-to" type of book. The book is mostly photos of her work with a black and white section of some instructional aspects of making bouquets, etc. There is also a small encyclopedia-like section of flowers which explains some aspects to the flowers but does not include general price range. I was hoping it would be the only book I needed to buy to do my wedding flowers, but I don't think it will be.

Book Description
Taken from the 1859 biography entitled The Rev. J.W. Loguen as a Slave and as a Freeman, this work follows Loguen's life from when he first arrives in Syracuse in 1841 and becomes a preacher and underground railroad depot conductor to his participation in the famous Jerry Rescue in which a fellow fugitive slave was arrested and shackled by Federal marshals in 1851. An irate abolitionist mob later freed Jerry.

A great service has been done by republishing this 1859 biography of a great American. Rev. Loguen played an enormous role in ensuring freedom, education and employment for African Americans in the latter part of the 19th century. He should be in our history books, and in our consciousness, right alongside Frederick Douglass.
