Book Description
Jacobia Tiptree saved her sanity—and her son, Sam—the day she abandoned Wall Street for the seacoast village of Eastport, Maine. In her new home, a charmingly dialpidated fixer-upper, she looks forward to repairing old radiators and restoring antique shutter for years to come. But Jake's hopes of serenity are dashed when tiny Eastport erupts in a crime wave.
Hometown bad boy Kenny Mumford—old flame of Jake's best fiend and fellow sleuth, Ellie White—is the first victim. When his corpse washes up on the beach at Prince's Cove, all evidence points to a drowning...except the bullet hole in his forehead.
When bodies begin littering the Maine scenery, Jake and Ellie learn that the ante on Kenny's small-town antics has been upped. Add a pair of unwelcome arrivlas—Jake's ex-husband, and an unscrupulous New York ex-money mogul—and you've got a blueprint for more deadly danger than one house can hold.

Muder washes up with the tide.......2007-08-25
Ellie White and Jocobia Tiptree find Ken Mumford, who has been shot in the head, washed up onto the beach with the tide. Ellie used to date Ken in high school and pulls Jake (Jacobia) into helping her notify Ken's father, Tim, and investigate the murder. Later the Triple Witch ties up at the dock in Eastport, ME spoiling the historic atmosphere of the town people are trying to get in place for July 4th. No one seems to know who owns it but hopefully it will be gone by the time Felictiy Abbot-Jones arrives for the July 4th fete - since she determines who gets the grants that could help the town. Jake's ex and her son's father, Victor, shows up and moves in with Jake and her significant other. And just when Jake thinks things couldn't get worse -- well, Tim Mumford is killed and Ken's girlfriend is missing.
There are several threads that are deftly handled. First, we have the murders of Ken and Tim Mumford. Then, there is appearance of heroin among the teens in the village. Next, Victor shows up and moves in; planning to run Sam and Jake's lives. And Baxter Willoughby is living not far from Eastport and raising llama's: which is out of character for this high roller that Jake helped put in prison for securities irregularities. There's a large cast of characters but there is no confusion since each person is clearly drawn and distinct.
The Maine connection of this series was a draw from me since I'm from Maine and reading about the characters movements geographically was like taking a trip back to the area. The plot is intricate, the characters engaging (though sometimes frustrating), and the setting evocative of place.
Triple Trouble for Jake.......2006-10-07
As the town of Eastport, Maine begins to gear up for the Fourth of July holiday, Jake Tiptree has her hands full. First, her ex-husband is coming to spend the holiday with her and their son, Sam. He's insisting that Sam plan to enroll early in an Ivy League college when all Sam wants is to build boats. Also, Jake needs to fix up the outside of her house for the historical inspector coming to town.
Of course, all the gossip around town is about the murder. Kenny Mumford was the town drunk and trouble maker. He was also a former boyfriend of Jake's best friend. Ellie isn't taking this murder lightly. But the stakes are raised when another body turns up. What is happening in this formerly peaceful town?
This book has an interesting premise and main character, and I was hoping to like it more then I did. However, the plot developed unevenly, with the sub-plots slowing down the main story in the beginning. While Jake and her family are well developed, many of the other characters seem to fall into stereotypes that serve only to advance the story. And the writing style was choppy, often pulling me out of the book as I tried to understand what the writer meant.
I enjoyed the first book more then this entry, so I'm willing to give the series another try. Here's hoping that the third entry erases some of the shortcomings in this entry.
Home Sweet Home!.......2006-04-16
I love this author's books, for several reasons. (I don't mind commas, they make reading easier for me.) First, I live in a rural township with less than 25 full time residents. My closest post office is in Dennysville, five miles away, and I drive through the Cobscook Bay WildLife Refuge on my way to work in Lubec, where the mythical butcher was killed at the end of this mystery. Sure, you could say, no wonder she likes the Maine trivia, her life must be dull.
Not so! Life in Downeast Maine is busy beyond imagination. It's true that we are typically occupied with more mundane events that town murders, yet the emotional timber of these stories rings very true to me. The Maine characters are like so many people I know, and while murders here are relatively rare, passions in a small town can run high. Long winters and social isolation can contribute to powerful emotions that, fortunately, do not genrally lead to murder, but may make us wish certain characters disappeared from the social scene. It is a relief to read these stories and see that for the bullies and liars and gossip mongers who plague us, justice is served!
One of the thoughts that occurred to me reading, as I traveled mentally through geographical spaces I know and love, was that writing these mysteries could be quite cathartic for the author as well. I began to think of the "villains" in my life, and how they could meet their just ends (though I will confess, most of them truly do not deserve murder - one a book is enough for me). Perhaps we should all write murder mysteries and the world would be a more peaceful place ...
I wonder who the real life people are that inspire this writer. In fact, I wonder if I know the writer herself. The author's quick patter and humor are so like a woman I know and admire who sings in the Balkanistas, a women's Balkan choir that started recently in Eastport - will we feature in a future mystery? I hope so; please just don't kill us off!
I very much look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series. On year four of my dissertation I so admire anyone who can crank out a book a year! Keep up the good work. And for anyone who hasn't been here, truly this most eastern corner of the US is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Come visit us, look up the real life town and stores and roads and businesses referenced in the books. Meet the Maine people who are the basis of the characters in these fun mysteries. You might find yourself in a mystery of your own ...
Triple Witch.......2005-10-15
I love these stories because it combines my love for home repair,Eastport-a town I adore and mystery. The characters are believable, the repairs are real and the setting desirable.A great way to escape my work day.
Nice Series Entry.......2004-05-07
I enjoyed this book although it is rather lightweight with regards to action and there were some events in it that did not quite ring true to me. Jake Tiptree is still adjusting to life in Eastport, Maine, having moved there from New York. Her house is in desparate need of renovating and she would rather spend her time doing that but gets involved in the death of a young man from the town after she and her best friend, Ellie, find him washed ashore. Then two other people are killed and there is a wave of vandalism and muggings in the previously peaceful small town.
There are plenty of characters to enliven the tale and provide suspects but it is still pretty simple to figure out who did the murders. The strength of this book is in its descriptions of small town life - the citizens, the buildings, the stores, etc. The weaknesses fall in the too pat coincidences (a man that Jake had helped put in jail in NYC has bought a house in the same small town in which she lives after he is paroled, for example).
All in all, a pleasant read for those who do not require their mysteries to have too much depth and don't require too much thinking.

Customer Reviews:
Simply Amazing.......2007-09-15
I have been a regular exerciser for 35 years and this is one of the most amazing approaches that I have ever tried. I have had the book for months and all I have done are the basic seven exercises (there are many other exercises included in the book). The Miracle Seven can completely replace the need for weight training, saving you tons of time and money.
1. You can save time doing these exercises. I can rip through a set in about five minutes. If you only do two sets a week you will notice the difference. If you start doing multiple sets several days a week you probably won't believe what will begin to happen to your body.
2. These exercises will make you stronger. I have always been a strong man, but at age 54 I am happy to report that I have more upper body strength now that at any other period in my life. In my line of work I frequently have to help lift adults in order to assist them with the basic needs of living. I can do morel lifting with less fatigue after using this system. This creates functional strength that will enable you to accomplish your goals in life.
3. These exercises will build a very attractive set of muscles. I spent about a decade lifting weights (which I have stopped doing), but I now have more muscle mass and better definition on my upper body than I had before.
4. I can grab a quick workout whenever I want. If I'm dragging in the afternoon at work, I can find a place by myself and do all seven exercises in five minutes. No equipment needed, and you can do all of the movements while wearing casual work attire.
I'm stronger. I look better. I'm spending about one tenth the time I was spending one weights. And it doesn't cost me anything.
Give it a try. You won't be sorry.
a great book.......2007-09-14
this book is a great one.anything by john peterson and or wendi pett is 5 star.this work also contains "tiger moves" developed by the late kenpo karate legend and father of karate in ireland grandmaster john mcsweeney...these exercise alone are well worth the price of this fine book....
I'm completely shocked.......2007-07-19
Having read Peterson's earlier book, "Pushing Yourself to Power", I wondered how much extra benefit this book would provide. I'm completely blown away. In the first three days, I lost 1/2 inch to an inch in my midsection, and my wife is already commenting on the results.
The Miracle Seven exercises are "tiger moves" that seriously work out every major muscle group, with an emphasis on the core -- abs, chest, back, triceps, biceps, and legs. Tiger moves are just what they sound like: high-intensity stretches and muscle contractions like the big cats use to keep in shape. Peterson calls this dynamic visualized resistance (DVR), and it provides all the benefits of weight training without the stress on joints, tendons and ligaments, nor the compression of vertebrae and potential injury caused by lifting weights. In fact, the results come far more quickly than with weights.
Peterson gives full credit to McSweeney, the martial artist and military trainer who came up with the miracle seven tiger moves by narrowing down thousands of training options. What Peterson adds are very practical instructions, clear photos, and guidelines on how to mentally focus to maximize results, plus six additional workouts of seven exercises each. These additional six routines focus on specific problem or enhancement areas with increasing levels of difficulty for advanced workouts.
As I type this review in the morning, I can still feel my muscles from last night's tiger moves -- and that set lasted only 10 minutes or so.
I'll continue using the earlier PYTP book for all its stretches -- those are fantastic for eliminating stiffness and soreness -- and as a reference for dozens of excercise options, but The Miracle Seven is my new workout guide because of its emphasis on getting focused results in minimal time. If I can only plan one workout, and if I only have 15 minutes, this is my default routine. It's that good; there's no way I can improve on what McSweeney and Peterson have come up with through years of research and refining.
The only improvement this book needs I will handle myself: take it down to the local quick print shop, and for two bucks have them cut off the spine and spiral bind it so it lays flat during a workout. Aside from that small improvement, this book is everything I hoped for, and surprisingly more.
Really Works.......2007-05-05
Excellent book. The isometric exercises are easy and effective. Overall, my body tone is much better than using machines at the gym. A lot easier and safer than lifting weights. No more sore muscles... You can do them anywhere.
It would be nice if the book was a loose leaf so you could arrange the pages in your exercise routine...
One of the best exercise books. .......2007-04-09
I call the workout in this book my no mater what exercises. I can workout no matter where I am. Yesterday I worked out for 10 minuets in from of the TV. It was fun and my biceps's felt like I really blasted them. I did some of the exercise in this book when I was in karate. My instructor did not sell anyone on the benefits of the workout. What I like best about this book is after reading it, and with a little thought anyone can come up with some variations on the exercises. Most of the lifts that are done in the gym can be done with no weights if a person just flexes there muscles hard during the range of motion. The book really sold me on the pushup, and I can really feel the deference after just 30 days of working out with this system.

My Favorite Cookbook!.......2007-03-02
I have grown tired of recipes that list way too many ingredients or involve condensed soup. This book is a refreshing change from the ordinary. I have enjoyed all but one recipe from the book (eggs and spaghetti sauce was as gross as it sounded), and I have tried many. There are many refreshing recipes in this book that will yeild great results. I give this book along with his-and-her aprons and a couple of kitchen gadgets off the registry as my standard wedding gift.
I give it a rousing "OK", and a word of caution.......2007-02-28
The layout of the book is fine. The photographs of the completed dishes are fine. The selection is a bit fish-heavy for my taste. To be honest, I've only made one thing in this book: macaroni and cheese. I should have realized something was amiss when the recipe called for six (6) cups of milk. I stopped at five, and the end result was macaroni and milk soup, albeit with a crunchy topping. If that's a typo, it's a biggie, and it makes me wonder about the validity of the rest of the recipes.

Taffy and Tiffany came into their lives over a decade ago, and nothing has been the same since! These two little rascals have brought joy and delight into the lives Clair and his wife Brenda as only two lovable kitties could. As the years have gone by, this country preacher and his wife have learned valuable lessons and enjoyed many hours of hilarity watching the antics of their two little furballs as they lovingly call them. You'll chuckle and you'll be touched by their delightful stories, but above all you'll discover the significance of Clair's favorite verse, "Ask the animals and they will teach you" (Job 12:17)
Customer Reviews:
This is an Irritating Book!.......2006-09-19
I received this as a gift because I LOVE cats! I could only read so much. In the first 17 pages, the author has an "outside" cat that gives birth to 5 kittens, 2 of which get run over. Those 3 then have kittens of their own, bringing the total to 16 cats.
The author doesn't think about being a responsible pet owner and having them spayed or nuetered. One of the cats has a
hard time giving birth, and is weak and sick for days afterward. Does the owner take her to a vet? Of course not!
He leaves everything up to God. The writing is peppered with religious talk that makes me sick, because the owners won't even take care of their pets! I couldn't finish the book- it made me so angry.
Product Description
Taffy and Tiffany came into the lives of this country preacher and his wife 15 years ago and have been close to their hearts ever since. As you will see through these new stories, each feline is unique and has their own special place in the Shaffer family. Along the way, these two furballs changed the lives of Clair and Brenda forever! Most animal experts and pet lovers would agree that the greatest lesson our furry friends teach us is unconditional love, fulfilling Clair's favorite verse, Ask the animals and they will teach you (Job 12:7).
Book Description
The third edition has been completely revised with all prices updated to reflect the current market for the coming year.
During 1999 and 2000 the Charlton Press published two Royal Worcester price guides, Figurines and Animals, to serve the Worcester collector, believing they represented two different collecting venues. However, two catalogues proved unnecessary, this move simply increased the cost, inconvienced the collector, and the solution was obvious, publish one catalogue for all Royal Worcester figures.
All Royal Worcester Figures from 1900 to date, have been amalgamated into one volume. The third edition is 320 pages of Royal Worcester Figures listed in RW numerical order, the complete figurine and animal range. Also included with this revised edition are 32 pages of colour illustrations showing figures from the past 100 years. An alphabetical index is included for collector cross referencing between RW number and figurine name.
New additions to an earlier series "Les Petites" coupled with four new series, "Moments," "Ladies of Literature," "Southern Belles" and "Ladies of the Isles" are all incorporated into the new listing bringing the third edition current to 2005.
Naturally, all information carried in the previous catalogues has been brought forward, designer, size, colourways, dates of issue and discontinuation, varieties and pricing are all updated for the current market place, which a collector or dealer will need for 2005.
With the rebirth of the famous Worcester Candle Snuffers in 2000 we have taken the liberty of adding the new Connoisseur Collection to the figurine catalogue. Over fifty snuffers issued between 2000 and 2004 are listed and priced.

Book Description
If you love the joys of eating home-garden vegetables but always thought those joys had to stop at the end of summer, this book is for you. Eliot Coleman introduces the surprising fact that most of the United States has more winter sunshine than the south of France. He shows how North American gardeners can successfully use that sun to raise a wide variety of traditional winter vegetables in backyard cold frames and plastic covered tunnel greenhouses without supplementary heat. Coleman expands upon his own experiences with new ideas learned on a winter-vegetable pilgrimage across the ocean to the acknowledged kingdom of vegetable cuisine, the southern part of France, which lies on the 44th parallel, the same latitude as his farm in Maine.
This story of sunshine, weather patterns, old limitations and expectations, and new realities is delightfully innovative in the best gardening tradition. Four-Season Harvest will have you feasting on fresh produce from your garden all through the winter.
Customer Reviews:
Does this book even need another 5-star review?.......2007-10-06
Even if you don't want to garden year round (if you do this is the only book you need), it's a fascinating and fact-filled read. He tells how to garden more efficiently, how to compost and rejuvenate soil with crop rotation and "green manure" and which direction to plant rows for optimal time in the sun. There are formulas throughout such as how high a retaining wall to build to protect plants from cold (the wall heats up during the day and radiates warmth back during the night), or how many degrees to slant a bed to maximize sun and minimize cold wind damage. He tells how to plan succession planting to have vegetables year round, rather than one humungous crop all at once. His tone is congenial, never talking down or above his target audience. It's fascinating--if you buy you won't be sorry!

The bible of 4-season gardening.......2007-04-18
There is nothing like the satisfaction of talking to another seasoned gardener and having them say "isn't it too early for snap-peas?" and responding "nope, mine are doing great". This book gave me the confidence and knowledge to plant a month and a half earlier than I have ever planted before, without protection for the plants even!
It lays out in simple terms variety selection, location, timing and all the information you need to be harvesting vegetables literally all year round all the way down to zone 3!!
Book Description
Having established himself as the expert on organic growing techniques with his first book, Eliot Coleman now shows you how to produce fresh, delicious, healthy food from your home garden year-round.
