Book Description
In February 1902, a feast is held at the Inns of Court, during which senior barrister Alexander Dauntsey collapses and dies. When a second barrister is shot dead shortly after, Lord Francis Powerscourt is summoned to conduct a discreet investigation. His inquiries take him to the heart of legal London, where the wills of the dead can reveal the crimes of the living, and he discovers a troubled marriage, seemingly broken by the lack of children. The trail leads on, first to a grand country house, mysteriously boarded up, its past sealed within, then to a growing list of suspects including a jealous wife, a mistress fearful of being jilted, and a cuckolded husband who writes books about poisons. Powerscourt eventually finds that he too is now standing in the path of danger.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful post-Victorian mystery.......2006-03-11
The author's use of similes, metaphors and allegories enriched the text and often made me smile. The plot was intriguing and the suppositions made about the various suspects really incorporated me into the story. I found the characters diverse and interesting, and the plot intriguing. I appreciated learning a bit about the English court system. Post-Victorian England is wonderfully depicted as the age of technology as begun. I'm certain historical purists would have pointed out the anachronisms, even I spotted a couple, but nothing that diminished my pleasure in reading. This may be the first book I've read by Dickinson, but it definitely won't be my last.

Legends of Nevermore County

Book Description
Down in the southwest corner of Nevermore County is a mountain the early European settlers called Mist Tree Mountain because of the huge mist-shrouded tree that grew at the very top. In time, it became known to their descendants as Mystery Mountain, and it is in the small backwoods towns and villages around the mountain that these stories take place. Fairly isolated, nestled in the foothills near the No Name River, with only two narrow country bridges connecting them to the rest of the county, these small locales frequently developed odd customs and behaviors. While outsiders might find them exceedingly strange, they are, in one way or another, accepted by the people living there...even when the outcome is fatal.

Delightful and Intriguing.......2006-02-07
A bit of magic in a real world - well, almost - which reminds one of the "olden" days. Could have been - and could be. Do you remember?
I found the "Nevermore County Gazette" using Google; the people of Nevermore County certainly have their own opinions of this author, and not very complimentary at that!
The secrets are out but not yet well-known. That certainly calls for a cautionary note to Ms. Bradford if she, indeed, intents to re-visit there for sequel-material. Beware!
A wonderous world just crazy enough to be real........2006-02-04
This is a fantastic collection of stories that shed light on some of the everyday and not-so-everyday ocurrances you'll find if you just look that little bit closer into the small communities off the beaten track.
The tales are carefully and beautifully told and just enticing enough to make you believe in magic.
Can heartily recommend for curious young minds looking for adventures - and old minds that have refused to grow up!
Let your imagination take you there - a homecoming with a twist.......2006-02-01
Enticing short stories in the Fantasy realm. Sounds like a place I know and would like to return to. Ms. Bradford does a fine job creating her characters. They take on a life of their own as is demonstrated on the website of The Nevermore County Gazette. "Summer's Island" sounds like a movie in the making. Are there sequels in the works, I hope?
Definitely a Pass.......2006-01-30
I can't recommend this novel. It's stuck somewhere between being for kids and being for adults and doesn't know what to do with itself. The storylines and general feeling is suitable for kids, but the level of writing is overly detailed for them. The characters are too one-dimensional to be of any entertainment. I couldn't identify with any of them. The environments are very cliched mystical Grimm brothers kind of stuff. The writer is in love with the sound of her own voice and just goes on and on sometimes.
A very real trip into make-believe........2006-01-14
"The Legends Of Nevermore County" is trip to a secret place not so far away. In fact it is strangely familiar. There are deep secrets, hidden agendas, dark and light happenings all seemingly connected to mist, a tree, and a mountain. We start with a natural disaster understood by cows but no one else, that ends in the strange transformation of many creatures. We are introduced to a woman who longs for travel, but waits at home the rest of her life for her ride to arrive. Young Klee, who falls in love with a tree. We sit on the floor watching TV eating Mrs. Winston's wonderful doughnuts. We run into Mother Goody a healer and herbalist that we all wish we had living in our neighborhood. The mysterious Rainbow Weavers live here in Neever's Knob beside the river, grazing their sheep in the surrounding highlands, and exercising their strange weaving rituals. There is the story of a young boy and his coming of age, I reflected on my own personal experiences while looking through his young eyes. Then there is the magic honey from Summer Island that can cure most any ailment, and the secrets of the women who harvest it.
This part of Nevermore County, connected solely to the rest of the world by two small bridges across the Noname River, is a magical place, almost like the "Waltons" placed in the "Twilight Zone". But Ms. Bradford makes us believe, as she reports on the secret lives and experiences of the families who have lived there for generations. She has managed to bring me back to the child watching TV on a Sunday night. Mary Martin as Peter Pan was pleading with me to believe in fairies to save poor Tinkerbelle's life from Hook's poison. Right then, as I clapped my hands until they hurt, I believed, as I have never believed before. Adelle, I believe in Nevermore County and want to read more.

Dr. Mona Lisa Schulz reveals the intricate science behind women's intuition in The New Feminine Brain, and shows that while ignoring one's sixth sense can devastate the body, honoring its messages can lead to greater creativity, improved physical well-being, and joy. Coming from the pen of a board certified neuropsychiatrist, neuroscientist and medical intuitive, the topic receives just as much clinical attention as it does the breathe-out-and-tune-in type. Schulz begins with a crash course in neuropsychiatry to illustrate how the female brain's innate adaptability has caused women to literally rewire their thinking for survival in today's (man's) world. Unfortunately, the body doesn't always buy what the new feminine brain is selling. The result can mean disaster to a woman's health. Pinpointing the true source of one's physical aches, infections, diseases, and psychoses requires an honest look within.
Embracing her own Attention Deficit Disorder, Schulz zooms from rich discussions about gender brain wiring to quick patient stories, to questionnaires that help readers learn how their own brains are "wired for mood," "wired for fear," or wired for early senility. It's an interactive ride punctuated by dizzying lists, charts, and checklists that involve frequent page-flipping. Schulz point out that detailed descriptions of prescriptive medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements (complete with dosage recommendations and cautions regarding drug interaction), all include a caveat: simply medicating the body doesn't promise long-term physical and emotional health. Here, intuition must preside. Schulz responds with multiple strategies to help women nurture even the tiniest inner voice, and become their own best medical intuitives.--Liane Thomas
Customer Reviews:
a lot of good information here.......2007-08-28
The writing style Mona Lisa uses feels somewhat academic. It's not a quick read, but it is worth the effort.
Using our own brain to make the mind our best friend.......2007-03-16
Mona Lisa is a double doctor and still remains board-certified and licensed. This tells you alot about her integrity and credibility from the start. Female brains differ from woman to woman and the unique constructions are what Mona Lisa works with. This book really is about working with your own wisdom and harnesing your own brain power to access intuitive genious. No two people are the same. Intuition and the intellect are together a powerful suportive force. Follow Mona Lisa's instructions on your brain style and see what unfolds. This is a winner.
FASTEN YOUR SEATBELT!.......2006-10-15
Exhilerating and fast-paced with life changing information contained in each paragraph on every page. Mona Lisa Schultz has a keen, marvelous, and wicked sense of humor that radiates healing energy from cover to cover. I look forward to reading it again and remembering even MORE after implementing her plan for menopausal memory loss and improving attention span. I highly recommend this transformational book.
To long LIFE!.......2006-04-20
Such a unique approach to life. Loved it. Yes, using our inner voice/intuition brings us closer to long-term physical and emotional health.
Also a good addition are great services such as the Health Club for the Mind Agogus.com, which keep you mentally stimulated, healthy and confident. Now that we can live older, we have no other choice than to make use of all those great tools. To long LIFE!
Powerful Piece for Women and the Men Who Love Them.......2006-03-01
Even though it is clinical in spots, after years of reading books on similar subjects, this book is definitive in its value to women, especially to those of us who want clear and direct information. I recommend this book to all women, regardless of age, as well as the men who love them.

This is a most useful book and it is easy for the average cook to use. The recipes are understandable and easy to use. A fasicinating read and most interesting.
brilliant and a rewarding read.......1998-09-23
This was one of the finest cookbooks I have come across in years. Mr. Smiths mastery of maritime flavors quickly surfaces and he obviously has a highly refined and developed taste.
Book Description
The best-selling guide to horsemanship for English and Western riders THERE ARE NO PROBLEM HORSES, ONLY PROBLEM RIDERS has stood for twenty years as an indispensable text in its field. As Mary Twelveponies writes in her introduction, "It is the hardest pill for all of us would-be horsemen to swallow, but it is absolutely true if the horse is not responding properly, we are doing something wrong." This easy-to-read guide offers sensible advice on every common problem you may have in handling your horse, and provides highly effective solutions. Newly introduced by John Lyons, America's Most Trusted Horseman, this reissue covers everything from dressage to barrel racing, show jumping to endurance riding.
Customer Reviews:
Twelveponies thinks problems are all in rider's head.......2007-02-17
Twelveponies falls for the oldest mistake in the book. Since she is a trainer, she thinks all problems can be solved by training.
I've "retrained" many problem horses. In many cases, the problem was not the former rider/trainer. It was a physical problem. I always start with a farrier and vet, and look for conformation problems that call for a specialty saddle. It is so rewarding to give a problem horse a rest and treatment to heal sore muscles, arthritic joints or a damaged spine. It's so easy to get proper corrective shoes, fit the right saddle, and then all is well. Once in a while the problem is more serious, but still is fixable by a vet. Example: a retained testicle. No amount of training will get an apparent gelding with a hidden testicle to stop acting like a stallion.[...]
Practical and realistic.......2006-06-07
Mary Twelveponies provides excellent advice to riders on all levels. Her approach is practical and takes into account the importance of respect in the relationship between a human and a 1,000 lb. animal. I sent a copy to my neice to help her learn the necessary assertivness skills to deal with her typical "new horse-owner" type problems. A well-behaved horse is a joy to ride. Getting and keeping one that way takes some work. This book will help. Those who have called these techniques harsh should note that John Lyons wrote the forward. I found her approach balanced and clearly that of an experienced horsewoman.
Not very helpful.......2004-10-24
I bought this book thinking it would be full of wonderful advice, but I really did not gain a thing from it. I get much better results from communicating with my horse, rather than threatening him. Also, the advice on mounting a tied horse is outright DANGEROUS! DO NOT DO THAT! When I started my horse, he was hard to mount, so I just taught him the verbal command of 'stand' (which I use for all kinds of other things too, not just mounting) and now he knows to stand quietly when I ask. I agree with another reviewer, Pat Parelli and John Lyons have much better advice.
The worst thing you could do to horses.......2004-07-13
The worst thing you could do to horses is to follow the advice of Mary Twelveponies. This book and her philosophies are based on the principle: eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. She often refers to the holy book. Maybe she seeks an excuse when she hit horses with nails if they bite. She likes to punish horses with a whip if they don't obey. She says serveral times: you have to be the boss. So you whip a horse on the foreleggs firmly if he does'nt listen? When I finished the book I was alsmost shaking because of disgust. Unbelievable that these kind of people may spread their word in print. This book should be put into a huge bonfire. I am relieved that there are other authors like John Lyons and Pat Parelli. Those persons deserve respect.
This author would be lost around horses without her WHIPS!.......2002-09-20
.
"With all of the great books for horse people and horses out there, there's no reason to buy this book." That's what respected trainers told me. I wish I'd listened and saved having to throw it in the garabage, but I liked the (misleading) title and it was on sale, so I learned the hard way.
Product Description

She also has a gift for understanding and communicating with animals, and she shares that gift with you - and your horse! Dose you horse lead badly, or resist your cleaning his feet? Growing 101 Herbs that Heal.......2007-04-01
vital information for a coming time when alternatives will be a necessity, not just an alternative.
Beautiful paperback book............2005-06-11
Although Rodale's book is still one of the beter gardening books for growing herbs, and other books have more comprehensive coverage of the uses of essential oils, Tammi Hartung's GROWING 101 HERBS THAT HEAL is interesting if you are a relative newcomer to either area and want a good overview of factors to consider. Hartung includes a brief discussion of gardening techniques, harvesting and drying methods, and culinary uses of herbs including a few recipes (check out Dr. Duke and Andrew Weil for more coverage on the latter.)
The book also includes many lovely photos, especially one of `Goldenseal' which I plan to grow in my own garden next year as CITES (Convention of International Trade of Endangered Species) lists this plant as an `at-risk' organism. Many herbalists understand the importance of responsible wildcrafting, Hartung, a 'Medical Herbalist', points a way toward growing your own remedies and relieving the stress on overharvested wild plants as well as obtaining A-1 oils or dried herbs from your own garden.
Herbs for Everyone.......2004-05-14
I have had the pleasure of knowing the author of this book since we were both young children. I have watched her develop her knowledge and skills in this area for 20 years, yet I was amazed at the amount of information she provided in her book! Her style in presenting the information allows even the most novice of gardeners ample opportunity to learn and develop their skills. Yet she provides considerable information to those readers who are more advanced in their gardening skills.
Easy to read, easy to understand, it leaves you wanting more. I sincerely hope that Tammi undertakes another book (as her extremely busy schedule allows!) in the not so distant future.
Highly Recommend.......2002-02-27
This book is fascinating, full of information, recipes, and all the information you could need to grow these herbs, anywhere in the country.
An Amazingly Useful Handbook on Herbs.......2000-06-25
This is a beautiful and very readable comprehensive guide to herbs, packed with information and techniques for making the most of herbs and transforming our awareness of plants and gardening. Readers will be encouraged to "cultivate plant relationships" which can become profound acts of self-help, ecological preservation, and cultural renewal.
