Need something troublesome and unsightly eliminated permanently?
Call Josie Toadfern!
There is no stain on Earth that laundromat owner Josie Toadfern can't conquer, and she's offered to share her expertise on world famous domestic doyenne Tyra Grimes's TV show. No one is more shocked than Josie herself when the Great Grimes shows up in Paradise, Ohio, to tape a segment in Josie's teeny-weeny hometown. But rapidly spreading rumors of the insufferable icon's immoral -- and quite possibly illegal -- carryings-on have sparked Josie's curiosity, and her uninvited sorting through Grimes's dirty laundry is exposing all manner of dastardly doings -- from mischief all the way to murder. And the irrepressible Toadfern soon realizes it will take more than lemon juice to make this lethal stain come out in the wash.

A Stainbusting Star.......2007-09-03
I am so pleased I selected this book as one of my "light" summer reads. This first in the series of Josie Toadfern mysteries was a fun and easy read, perfect for a day by the pool.
Having grown up in a little town in rural Ohio, this book took me back to a very enjoyable time in life. While I do agree with others who commented that this book started slow, it built up energy midway through. I was pleased to see the complexity grow, keeping me guessing as to the final outcome.
I look forward to reading more of Sharon Short, she is quite talented and her work will undoubtedly become stronger with each book.
Murder Leaves a Stain on Paradise..........2006-07-16
In the 1st book in the Toadfern Mystery series, we meet the owner of the Toadfern's Laundromat, Josie Toadfern. She loves her small town of Paradise, Ohio and lives a quiet life with her friends and family. This all starts to go downhill the day that Elroy Magruder, owner of the only gas station in town, comes bursting into her Laundromat telling Josie that Paradise has been removed from the official map of the United States. Fearing that her already tiny town would decline considerably, Josie decides to invite a TV star to Paradise to do a live broadcast. Promising to share her immense knowledge of stain removal techniques, Josie invites Tyra Grimes to tape her domestic-style talk show at the Laundromat. No one is town believes that Josie will connect with their famous idol, but when Tyra rolls into town, everyone quickly becomes a believer. Strange things start to occur that turns the small town upside down, and everyone quickly decides that having Tyra around will not be good for Paradise. And when two bodies are discovered, reporters start snooping around, and Tyra's assistant goes on the lam with Cousin Billy, Josie steps in to save both her business and the people that she loves.
I had heard a lot about this cozy series and had waited awhile before picking up this first installment. The premise was interesting, and I am a big fan of small town cozies. While I enjoyed the town and the characters, I agree with several other reviewers in the fact that the book seemed to drag at parts. It took me much longer to read this book than many others in the genre, and I found myself wondering why certain information was included in the book. However, it ended up being a more complicated mystery than I had anticipated, and I was charmed by the small town setting and lively characters. I will pick up the next book in the series, and hope to see more quirky fun in this potentially great series.
The next book in the series is called "Death by Deep Dish Pie". Enjoy!
Introducing Sleuth Stain Expert Josie Toadfern.......2004-08-02
Josie Toadfern owns the town Laundromat. She is also a stain expert. Their town, Paradise, Ohio, has always been on the map. But, when the new map arrives, it is no longer there. To try to get them back on the map, Josie writes a letter to Tyra Grimes asking to be on her TV show. Josie is quite surprised when Tyra shows up in town to tape a segment without even answering her letter.
Then Josie starts hearing rumors about Tyra that sound immoral if not illegal. She begins to do some research. Her cousin Billy appears to be getting in deep with Tyra's associates. As Josie tries to uncover the truth, the funeral director is town is murdered. Elroy is arrested. Josie can't believe the Elroy killed him. She keeps digging trying to find the truth.
She ends up getting herself in deeper and deeper but can't seem to figure out how all the pieces fit together.
This was the first book I've read in this series. It is an easy read, and I will continue to read others in this series. I must say that they won't be books that I'd rush out to get. I enjoyed this book, but found myself having trouble getting through it quickly. I can't put my finger on why. Josie is a likeable character. The other townspeople are all good characters. I think the writing is good. It is definitely a cozy mystery. I just felt that at times I got bogged down in some of the superfluous information.
I recommend this book.
Death of a Domestic Diva.......2004-06-20
I apuald Sharon on having toadfern solve puzzeling mysteries and all the while making good humor about it. I love the small town setting.
I can't wait till I get her next book Death by Deep Dish Pie.
So-So Start.......2003-11-22
The book picked up steam as it went along, however, the ending was so convoluted with so many things happening and so many twists and turns that it was a bit hard to digest it all.
I realize the author was going for humor in the first installment of what seems like a series, but she took it just a bit too far. Lime Jell-O mold on the head might be somewhat amusing, but added to a high-speed bookmobile chase, head-shaving and an old teacher in pink leather, it started to cross the line into silly and even ridiculous.
The most annoying thing was the constant use of "my laundromat." We know it's hers...we didn't need to be reminded of it in every sentence.
I'll read the next installment, but there's definitely much room for improvement as the series moves along. I just wonder how far it can move with such a limited character/setting base.

Book Description
"Selah of the Summit" is the story of Selah, a slave of the hot desert valley. She is used to beatings, loneliness, and hard work. Every day she goes to the well to fetch water. Above the pale valley haze shine the distant, snow-covered mountains. Selah wishes she could find them and the freedom they promise. But her Master, Regan, uses The Craft to maintain his power over her. One evening when Selah is serving Regan's guests at the Great Hall, an unexpected visitor appears, his face barely visible beneath his cloak and hood. "Take heart," he whispers to her while the Master loudly speaks to his other guests, "your waiting is over." Selah soon discovers that Micah is a Prince of the Mountains and servant of The Maker, sent to lead her and a Band of travelers out of slavery and to the Summit. Regan and his soldiers pursue the Band as they cross moors, highlands, and plateaus. Selah discovers rain, trees, meadows, lakes, and all the vegetation and animals of the mountain zones. As she and Micah journey higher, Selah sees the beauty of the moon and stars--and her love for Micah. Regan finally captures her, but she stands the test, wielding the power of a servant's heart over a dictator. Micah and Selah reach the Summit together and rejoin the Band of travellers for a feast to which all are invited. But rather than stay in the snowy heights, Selah and Micah decide to help the other slaves and bring starlight down to the valleys. A Christian alternative to "Harry Potter." For adults and teens.

A Perfect Read For Any Age.......2005-08-26
Mrs Williams describes this book as "a Christian alternative to Harry Potter", and while it certainly does serve as a splendid substitute, I would have to challenge this premise. Selah of the Summit is a wonderful book for older children and younger teens, yet here it strays from Rowling territory, crossing over with much greater ease to an adult readership. While it is simple and straightforward enough a tale to make a perfect children's read, it is in my opinion mature enough in style and deep enough in content to be a welcome addition to any adult's bookshelf where Harry Potter might be a mere childish diversion.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm neither putting down Potter nor attempting to overniche Selah of the Summit, but this book's content can be measured in layers, not merely a simplistic story. The dilligence in the book's careful buildup, the care in the creation of lovable and yet fully human characters, Lonna's ability to create suspense without compromising on the certainty of the outcome...all these elements make Selah of the Summit a truly endearing book.
But who cares? We've all read endearing books before. Why should you buy this one? Because past the wonderful authoring, there is something of true substance, a story that actually holds meaning for the inquisitive reader. As I said; depth. Every so often in reading it, I paused to look through the spellbinding story to uncover the openly offered gems of wisdom and analogy woven so well and so inobtrusively through the book.
In summary, most books have two levels on which you can read them; what the author is saying and what the author is *saying*. But Mrs Williams writes Selah of the Summit so that the two become the same. The analogy does not drown out the storytelling, nor does the endearing story swamp Lonna's message. Suitable for all ages, it truly is a lovely read.
A Great Book! I couldn't put it down!.......2004-03-24
This book was amazing I can't describe how good it was! Thanks Mrs. Williams for sharing this wonderfull story with us!
Great Alternative to "Harry Potter".......2004-02-17
This is a lovely fantasy novel--yes, there are bad guys and stressful situations, yet the overall message is so supportive that it never got depressing . . . Did I enjoy the book? Definitely--it was a great read. It is a wonderful break from some of the far more "in your face" stories that seem to fill most bookstores these days . . . This book and its anticipated sequels are at least partially intended as an alternative to current fantasy novels for children, such as the "Harry Potter" series. "Selah" is an enjoyable story, and one I'd recommend. I look forward to reading more from Lonna Williams. Reviewed by Barbara Carlson, News Editor for "California Homeschool News."
I couldn't put it down.......2003-09-25
I received Selah of the summit on Sunday 9/21/03. I started reading it that night, and once I started I just couldn't put it down! I read it until I fell asleep that night.
In the morning I started reading it again! I finished it that night on Monday 9/22/03!
I thought it was soooooooooo good!!!!! I'm 15 year's old I would definitely recommend this book to all of you out there who love a good book.
It Creates a World in Your Mind.......2002-09-20
I am ten years old, and I love "Selah of the Summit" because it creates a whole world that I can see in my mind. It is exciting. The mountains are beautiful, and Selah is brave to leave the hot valley and climb them. A great bedtime story!

Preemie Resource.......2007-09-11
This would have been a good resource with the exception of the large chapter dedicated to the death of a child. This was something that I did not want to even think about during this emotional time of having a premie. It was a scary 3 months going to the NICU and parents need to stay positive.
A must have for all parents of preemies.......2007-09-03
Having a preemie, especially unexpected, is a traumatic experience. On top of all the usual postpartum issues, you are faced with daily hospital visits, and coming home to an empty nursery. The nurses are short tempered, the doctors are too busy, and none of your friends can relate. This book is an absolute godsend.
The Essential Guide.......2007-08-06
We were given a copy of this book by the nursing staff at the Alexandria Hospital NICU. We found it extremely helpful in understanding all the strugles our son was experiencing in his first few months of life. I cannot stress how this book has help us unite as a family. After we finally have our son home after nearly 6 months in the NICU and the HSC we wanted to return the favor bestowed on us by purchasing four of the Guides for the Alexandria NICU for them to distribute to another family that may be going through the same experience.
premies.......2007-07-21
This was bought as a gift for someone who just had a premature baby, and she found it very helpful.
great book, yet the one shipped seems to be a copy.......2007-05-13
I came across this book in the maternity library of the hospital where I delivered my baby. I find it is extremely organized and informational. It is very helpful if you have a preemie or want to know about preemies. So I decided to buy one for reference. I'm giving a 3 here because this particular book that I bought at amazon seems to be a pirate copy. The book is so much lighter in weight than the one I saw in the library because the paper is so much thinner. The edges of the book are not even neatly cut. Nevertheless the content of the book is exactly the same as the original.

There's more than just recipes here: in addition to great menus for every Jewish holiday, Sorosky includes a short history of the occasion, the appropriate blessings, decorations and centerpieces, and essential religious items and foods--in short, everything you need to know and have to make your holiday meal a success. What's more, she provides a game plan for organizing your time in the kitchen and getting everything on the table at the right time and temperature. As an added bonus, Sorosky includes "Extra Points": special projects for children, invitation ideas, or special decorations to lift your celebration above the ordinary.
In her foreword, Marlene Sorosky admits that her upbringing in a tyranically Orthodox household spoiled Jewish holidays for her until she was well into adulthood. While writing this book, however, she discovered the joyous spirit of both the holidays and Judaism--apparent in every page of Fast and Festive Meals for the Jewish Holidays.

Easy and quick Jewish recipes.......2007-03-08
Recently I have become interested in Jewish culture and tradition, wanting to understand more facets including food. But the Jewish recipes I had were too complicated and time consuming, not to mention extremely high calorie. Then I found this cookbook. The recipes range from very simple to fairly complex, but the equipment required can be found in my kitchen, the steps are clear, and the tastes have been updated for a modern palate. Jewish customs central to the holidays are also explained clearly, with simple, effective ideas for decorations included. This is a great book.
Best High holiday recipes.......2006-09-23
The recipe for the Crowned apple cake is Awesome!! I make it every year for Rosh Hashana and everyone raves about it. This is just one the many wonderful recipes in this book. The Passover desserts are great, too.
Fantastic Delicious Book.......2005-03-30
I have a huge library of Jewish cookbooks, and this is now the only one I turn to. The recipes are easy to execute, and will make you look like a gourmet cook.
I use this cookbook, even when it is not holiday time.
The stuffed cabbage casserole is remarkable and the brisket is just devine.
The Pesach desserts are incredible, and everytime I make one, someone asks me if it was store bought, they come out so professional looking. They are that terrific. The chocolate chip cookies are so delicious that my Mom could not believe they were Pasidic. I also enjoy the ritual information, and table setting ideas.
The dreidle cake was a major hit at Chanukah.
The is the ONE book that you must have for holiday cooking.
It should be in every household. I have given this book as a gift year after year, and it is always appreciated.
A Converts' culinary guide to Judaism.......2003-12-25
Last year my sister gave me Fast and Festive Meal..as a Chanakah gift as I was converting to Judaism and had little knowledge of how to cook jewishly. This book is absolutely amazing. Wonderful meal suggestions that have allowed me to incorporate Jewish eating into my new life as a Jew with the attendant rituals. What I find most attractive are her suggestions on the timing of preparations and the possibilities for freezing.
Outstanding authentic recipes!.......2003-02-12
I was skeptical that this cookbook could deliver, but it does! I have made many of these recipes and complete menus, and everything has obviously been tested repeatedly; each recipe is a winner! I have gotten many compliments over these dishes. Best of all, I am able to entertain with two small children by following her timelines and preparing in advance. This has become a favorite cookbook of mine for all Jewish holidays.

With a hey diddle diddle, the creators of Why Cats Paint return with another version of feline (and human) reality. And suffice it to say that in Burton Silver and Heather Busch's hands, Kipling's cat that walked by himself has turned into a deeply codependent dervish. Their first book was a brilliant parody of artspeak--Busch's photos of creative felines matched by Silver's text. Their second, Dancing with Cats--an epic three years in the making!--juxtaposes psychological and spiritual mumbo-jumbo with the language of dance criticism. As Silver explores everything from visualization to mirroring to empathy, Busch is busy with her human-feline pairs. In one sequence, Fred, clad in tabby tights, kitty-cat body paint, and a tanga with a long black tail, leaps about the place with a slightly puzzled pussy: "I share its grace, power, and oneness with the universe. I relate to Fluff and the whole spectrum of feline physicality on a profound level--I even regard birds differently."
On the very next page, chubby Helen, sporting a tie-dyed purple gown and a deeply sworn belief in feng shui, identifies perhaps a bit too deeply with chunky, amber-eyed Boots (who looks suspiciously like "Trans-Expressionist" Bootsie from Why Cats Paint). And then there's Sue and Zoot. In one photo, the recumbent gray and peach cat raises his left paw to the sky as his ecstatic human does the same. Then Sue dons a feathery jerkin "in order to dance out some of her past traumas." It's difficult to say which is funnier, the photos or the text, as Silver catches pseudo-therapy's mixture of self-affirmation and non sequitur: "Dancing with Zoot helps Sue reenact and come to terms with the joy and sorrow of a brief but painful relationship: when she fell in love with her daughter's father while he was photographing bridges in the neighborhood." Though the two-legged models must have been prepared for this inspired silliness, one does wonder what on earth the cats made of their eurythmic adventures. Alas, until interspecies communication reaches a greater height, we can only dance amid our uncertainty! --Kerry Fried
Book Description
While researching their groundbreaking book, Why Cats Paint, Burton Silver and Heather Busch uncovered another phenomenon that seemed to merit further investigation: people who dance with their cats, or, more accurately, cats who dance with their people. It turns out that thousands of people today are rediscovering the ancient practice of cat dancing, tapping into this remarkable method of channeling feline energy and bonding with their pets. Some whisper to horses; others dance with cats. Both are manifestations of humankind’s continual striving to connect with their animal companions on a higher spiritual level. Dancing with Cats presents scores of delightful and inspiring photographs of people and cats engaging in their favorite routines, as well as moving testimonies of the personal transformations brought about through this uniquely joyous form of communion. A brave leap forward in the history of human-feline relations, Dancing with Cats gives people and cats reason to rejoice, jump up in the air...and dance!

Something Completely Different.......2007-05-11
When I first saw the cover of this book, I laughed out loud with joy and a sense of wonder about whether this book was for real. Surprisingly, DANCING WITH CATS is not a joke, and is an excellent primer on how to go about having some fun with your cats in a rather unusual way... by dancing with them. Since I don't currently have a cat, I borrowed one to get a feeling for how possible it might be to get a cat to dance. I succeeded in completely astonishing the cat as I began to notice the ways that the cat watched me moving around with movements that showed we were beginning to move together as one. Clearly, some cats enjoy dancing more than others, and this is one activity that may take a while to get fully into the swing of with your feline dancing partners. From the ancient history of cat dancing to modern age tips and techniques, this book provides a wealth of information about a subject most of us know very little about. The photographs are truly stunning, and you just might get some new ideas about what kinds of fun you can have dancing with cats. Highly recommended!
Between Joy and Terror.......2007-01-15
This book has appeared in my life several times, always with a mixture of joy and terror. The concept of the book is simple: through engaging one's cat in dance, a certain physical and spiritual equalibrium is achieved. Various people are interviewed and photos are shown of them dancing with their cats. Half of the time, though, it is not clear whether the cat is jumping or has been thrown into the shot by the photographer's assistant. Throughout the book you question yourself if cat dancing is "real"; by the end, it doesn't matter anymore.
Each one of the "cat dancers" is borderline schizophrenic, but the images are so whacky that one can't help from laughing histerically. Some people have actually recruited their children into the cat dancing way, which makes you feel sorry for them. (They will never have a normal existence.) The text that accompanies the images, however, is cause for brief moments of terror: these people actually believe they are making a spiritual connection with air-born cats. One is even concerned about creating too much spiritual energy and collapsing an astral vortex. Regardless, the book is a perfect ice-breaker, a coffee table book for all ages that allows strangers to point and laugh and sigh collectively. To say with a smile: "At least we're not them!"
Dancing with Cats.......2007-01-11
A pristine paperback copy of this extraordinary book. If cats are your thing, then this is a book for your shelf
The funniest thing I have seen/read in years..........2006-11-01
My niece got this for me as a gag gift. After 30 minutes of looking through it, I was lmao. I am lauging right now just thinking about it.
One of the best birthday presents ever.......2006-08-18
My sister got this for me for my birthday. I will tell you, I have never laughed until I broke a sweat before in my life. I cannot believe this is for real... But, it is very entertaining. I suppose, if you wanted to dance with your cat, this would teach you how...
This is the PERFECT Coffee Table book. Unfortunatly, they do not show the funniest pictures... I highly recommend this book.
If you are in the dumps, or have a friend who needs a laugh, this is perfect. :)

Wonderful reference book for anyone in the business.......2005-08-16
I ordered this book for my business, and have used it a great deal. It's a wonderfully photographed book, with great references.
for collectors.......2005-07-06
This is a good book if you collect dollhouses (already made and furnished). There is great information on the history of dollhouses with sections highlighting examples from England, Germany, and America. Related topics, not always covered are here as well...dolls, plastic furniture, and metal work are included.
I found the book to be a bit too technical to enjoy-kind of reminded me of a textbook. No roombox interiors are in this book.
Antique & Collectible Dollhouses and their Furnishings.......2000-11-13
A True Gem for the Vintage Dollhouse enthusiast. Tons of clear pictures as with all of Diane Zilners books, which show we collectors and Antique Dealers alike the true identities of the wonderfully expressive imaginations of miniature makers from the past.
I highly recommend this book to new and old collector's alike -Michael J. Kouri, Antique Toy Appraiser-member of U.F.D.C. & the Schoenhut Collector's Club, author of "The Adventures of Peg Wooden". You might also want to check out American Dollhouses and furniture of the 20th Century. Enjoy!

Armitage's Native Plants for North American Garderns.......2007-08-01
Really great book. I got it from the library and just couldn't get enough of it. ...so I bought it and am glad I did. Great conversational writing makes it a joy to read. Really helps you figure out what plants will work best for you.
Great Book on Gardening with Natives.......2007-03-10
I gave this book as a gift and have heard wonderful things about it. This book is very useful for help planning for choosing native plants and for figuring out where to plant natives in a garden.
Armitage's Native Plants.......2007-01-16
Good presentation of native plants, but could have more photos of some of the more obscure species. The book is slanted more toward the southeast and east U.S. Representation of western species is not as strong as it could be, but overall a very interesting book.
Excellent reference.......2007-01-15
I found this book an excellent reference to have for studying native plants. It should be in your personal library.
Armitage's Native Plants for North American Gardens.......2007-01-10
Very enjoyable and informative book. The enjoyment comes from the author's inclusion of personal perspectives of the native plants and the informative comes from the basic and beyond scientific information. Included is identification of the plant, habitat and propagation. Also mentioned are the cultivars of various plants. Good information for the beginning native plant gardener.

Inspirational!.......2002-11-05
Walter Meyerhof has written something really special. When I read his book - which I did in one 'go', as it was quite impossible to put it down - I felt really privileged to have entered his world and seen something of the joy he has obviously found in his life. INSPIRATIONAL was a title which came immediately to me as the title for this review. INSPIRATIONAL is what this little book is. Thank you, Professor Meyerhof, for showing us the way!
A fascinating holocaust survivor story.......2002-06-17
During the Hitler period, a number of extraordinary immigrants came to the USA, fleeing certain death because of their Jewish ancestry or religion. The USA did not make it easy for them to get in. Our society was extremely anti-semitic itself at that time. As a result, only the most promising people managed make the jump.
Walter Meyerhof, who was the son of a Nobel prize winning scientist and who later went on to become a physics professor at Stanford, was one who made it out and made it here. Like many refugees, he was not actually Jewish, but had Jewish ancestry.
The book consists of a number of short vignettes about Meyerhof's life. The vignettes are not really connected into a single narrative as one would expect from a biography, still one does get a picture of the flow of his life.
The book's account of Meyerhof's flight from Hitler is understated, but the sense of the closing of the horrifying vice of death still comes through.
Meyerhof's tales of his encounters with romance are also fascinating in giving us a window into how such things happened even before the "free love" generation.
The book does leave us with many questions about the parts of the author's life that are missing. Still, the parts that are there are well worth reading.
