Pauline Walks the Plank . . .
A confirmed landlubber, insurance fraud p.i. Pauline Sokol's never heard the call of the sea – or if she has, she didn't pay attention. But now the former RN is donning her nurse's whites once more to go undercover as part of the medical team of the Golden Dolphin – a lavish luxury liner that's setting sail for Bermuda.
There's something fishy going on aboard the super–deluxe dinghy, and it's Pauline's job to be the ship's designated secret snoop – if she doesn't get too distracted by the motley crew of friends and relatives who've decided to sail along with her . . . and by her sexy supervising fellow investigator, Jagger. But when a dead body turns up – in Pauline's cabin, no less! – and another nurse goes missing, Pauline realizes she may be over her head in shark–infested waters. And getting safely onto dry land may be a long swim back!

Not the best..........2006-06-08
Pauline Sokol, nurse-turned-private investigator, is aboard a cruise ship bound for Bermuda. Her first solo assignment is to uncover who is responsible for the ship's medical insurance fraud, but when her cabin mate is murdered after a nurse disappears, Pauline finds herself with an even bigger mystery to solve.
Deep Sea Dead, the fourth title in the Pauline Sokol mystery series by author Lori Avocato, doesn't succeed in staying afloat.
Avocato can't seem to decide if she's writing a mystery or "chick lit." More emphasis is placed on describing the protagonist's clothing and her crush on her mentor than to the development and intricacies of a good whodunit.
The style is often juvenile ("Soon little dolphin heads popped out of the top of the tank...I think the smaller of the three smiled at me...") and the reader frequently struggles to grasp for missing details about character relationships--even the characters themselves--that one can only assume were developed in earlier books in the series.
The unraveling of the mystery is anti-climactic and even confusing, but there's little time to dwell on the disappointment before the reader's focus is returned to Pauline's love life and her little dolphin friends.
Deep Sea Dead is a highly entertaining tale of mystery, drama, and humor. .......2006-05-02
I enjoyed the idiosyncrasies of Pauline's character and thought that her quacky group of friends added a lot of flair to the story. This story just seemed to flow so smoothly and effortlessly that I didn't stop reading until I was finished with the whole book. I honestly can't wait to read the previous Pauline stories. I'll also be looking forward to more great stories from this talented author.

Pauline takes the lead........2006-04-26
This time the whole wacky crew is going out to sea. To investigate her newest insurance-fraud case, Pauline Sokol must don a nursing outfit again. This time Pauline goes undercover as part of the medical team of the Golden Dolphin - a lavish luxury liner that is setting sail for Bermuda. With Pauline's fear of water and Goldie's fear of the Bermuda Triangle, the cruise is bound to be interesting.
When Pauline learned that Goldie and Miles would be sailing with her, but only as passengers and to give moral support, she was thrilled. But when Pauline learned that her parents purchased tickets too, she felt only concern that something horrible could happen. Of course the handsome and mysterious Jagger is nearby. Yet this time Pauline is the real investigator and he is only there in case back up is needed. One thing is for sure, when you sign on as part of this ship's crew, you put your life on the line.
***** Unlike the previous mysteries, Jagger actually slips and lets his feelings for Pauline show a bit. However, Jagger has some major competition aboard in the form of FBI Agent Tim Harwinton. Author Lori Avocato kept me guessing as to whom the guilty are, so you best pull out your best magnifying glass for this case! Oh, and if you are a fan of poetry by Poe, watch for the cute little nod of respect the author tosses out. I could not help but chuckle. Once again, OUTSTANDING! *****

terrific cuckoo's nest homicidal investigative tale.......2006-04-25
Insurance fraud inspector and former nurse Pauline Sokol is unhappy with her newest assignment, her sleazy boss Fabio Scarpello tells her to stop fretting about icebergs and forget the Titanic. Reluctantly she joins the medical team of the Golden Dolphin luxury liner as a nurse while the vessel sets sail for Bermuda because the alternative is unemployment.
Pauline's tied for best friend Goldie and her squeeze Miles booked passage on the luxurious ship to provide her support though the former fears crossing the infamous Bermuda Triangle. Also on board are Pauline's parents, whom the undercover insurance agent assumes is coincidence; and the enigmatic Jagger, who insists he is her backup only. However, as she investigates what is going on the Golden Dolphin, someone prefers to eliminate the crew including nosy nurses. FBI Agent Tim Harwinton, attracted to Pauline, struggles to keep her safe while Jagger skirmishes with not beating up the Fed for trying to steal his role.
Homage to Poe aside, only Pauline could go first class on cruise ship and find corpses in her room as once again she stars in her fourth delightfully wacky whodunit. Tim adds freshness as his interest professionally and personally in the heroine brings out the beast in Jagger who does not like the Fed poaching. The murder mystery as always is fun to follow as Pauline constantly lands in peril with two studs fighting over who should rescue her. DEEP SEA DEAD is a terrific cuckoo's nest homicidal investigative tale.

Book Description
"Bard, come forth; face me." With these words Mannam, the Lord of the Dead, commands Paedur the Bard to become the champion of the Old Faith. The Culai Heritage by Michael Scott is an omnibus collection of his three novels chronicling the adventures of the bard Paedur. In Magician's Law, Paedur is commanded by Mannam, the Lord of the Dead, to remind the people of the old ways, which are dying out. Thus begins his adventure traveling the realms, and so through his thoughts, words, and deeds breath new life into the old ways. In doing so he will meet some of the most interesting people and creatures that live in these lands. Also at all times he must be on the lookout for those of the new lords who wish to stop this reawakening of the old ways and to show once and for all that they are the ones who shall be worshiped. In Demon's Law, Paedur finds himself traveling across the bridge between life and death. For he has found that Mannam may not have been totally upfront with him about what is going on in the realms. For, if you are the Lord of the Dead, what better way to increase your power then by having men fight, and die, for their lords? Now Paedur must take the fight directly to Mannam in his land of the dead. Can the bard who once was the champion of the old ways be strong enough to fight a lord in his own land? In Death's Law, the power struggle between the old and the new ways still rages on. This time the lords themselves decide to join the fight personally, instead of simply guiding their worshipers. When the lords go to war, man is the loser. For what will be left of the realms when they are through unleashing their powers at each other? One man, Paedur the Bard, once champion of the old ways, stands between men and the lords. Can Paedur convince the lords that to continue this fight will not only destroy the realms, but lead to their own ultimate destruction?

The Lost Masterpiece.......2002-08-15
This has to be one of the greatest collection of Fantasy volumes I have ever read. In truth this is a collection of three books that were published as far back as the early 1980's. Magician's Law, Demon's Law, & Death's Law make up the three original volumes, published in Paperback I only wish I could get them in Hard Back. The original Art Work fully complimented the volumes and the amazingly original fictional mythology contained within. Unfortunately they are very difficult to find, so what a treasure to find this collection. I have always wanted to share these volumes but had no wish to release the original books to others, they were so important to my collection.
Scott creates a world so real you can almost hear the voice of the Bard as he works his magic. Scott peoples his creation with creatures both original and incredible, a unique class of characters that have both depth and substance. He weaves a web of intrigue and action and populates it with creatures of nightmare and wonder. One of the most important characters is of course the Bard, a man or a monster. He is seen as a Demon, a DemiGod but never a mere man, except when Scott allows us to enter his mind.
Scott is a true Seanachie, and one of the best Authors I have ever had the pleasure to read. This is one investment you will never regret.
an outstanding tale.......2001-04-11
This is an outstanding series. Rich with colorful characters, both Gods and men. A rich archeological history unfolds as the Bard attempts to save all the planes of existance from the folly of man and deity. The characters are strong, with a great sense of growth. Kept me reading late into the night; I'm a bit tired this morning but feel oddly satisfied.
Masterful Fantasy.......2001-04-10
This is a collection of the three books: Magician's Law, Demon's Law and Death's Law by Michael Scott.
Scott weaves a fluid story, introducing the character of Paedur the Bard. A man of learning, with a hook in the place of his left arm, he is chosen as the Champions of the Old Faith. Setting out to gain followers and stand against the rise of the New Religion and its gods, Paedur enlists the aid of an errant bandit with a claim to the thrown, a Weapon Master, a slave, a priestess, a long-dead warrior, and many others. He becomes embroiled in wars between the gods and man, making enemies among both the Pantheon of the Old Faith and the New Religion gods.
The mythology of Paedur's world is brought to life in the stories that he relates while on his mission... stories which then take on new meaning as the events they depict have fallout in the present day. The climax brings the story full circle, actually having caused me to flip back to the beginning of the first book to doublecheck something.
If there is one fault in Scott's writing, it is that the stories are woven so naturally into the tale that when the events come up again, I frequently found that I couldn't remember the details earlier presented. A timeline would have proven useful. But this is really a minor hindrance, and the series is overall extremely enjoyable.

Book Description
A startling, insightful, and instructive exploration of the challenges twentysomethings face as they transition from school to "the real world."
While the midlife crisis has been thoroughly explored by experts, there is another landmine period in our adult development, called the quarterlife crisis, which can be just as devastating. When young adults emerge at graduation from almost two decades of schooling, during which each step to take is clearly marked, they encounter an overwhelming number of choices regarding their careers, finances, homes, and social networks. Confronted by an often shattering whirlwind of new responsibilities, new liberties, and new options, they feel helpless, panicked, indecisive, and apprehensive.
Quarterlife Crisis is the first book to document this phenomenon and offer insightful advice on smoothly navigating the challenging transition from childhood to adulthood, from school to the world beyond. It includes the personal stories of more than one hundred twentysomethings who describe their struggles to carve out personal identities; to cope with their fears of failure; to face making choices rather than avoiding them; and to balance all the demanding aspects of personal and professional life. From "What do all my doubts mean?" to "How do I know if the decisions I'm making are right?" this book compellingly addresses the hardest questions facing young adults today.

Get Over It.......2007-08-29
It took two years for the "crisis" to hit me after I graduated from college. I was, and still am, experiencing everything the "crisis" comprises of.
I've always felt self-conscious about sounding like I couldn't handle life, and so I kept quiet about my fear of failure, doubts about my choices, and concerns about my future. I knew I wasn't alone, either, so the book failed to help me there.
What the book did do, however, was make me want to get past this point in my life as quickly as possible.
I appreciate these people sharing and being honest, as it was their honesty that made me realize how we Twentysomethings sound when we express our feelings about our "crisis" -- like freakin' whiners.
Although this book dishes out no advice, it has propelled me to put my head down and ram through my fears. 9/11 hit my senior year and that's when I turned my back on pursuing a career related to my degree and began writing my first novel. I will resume submitting the manuscript I abandoned a year ago, and while I'm putting my hard work out for others to judge, I will finish the second novel I'm in the middle of creating.
Writing, though tedious and frustrating at times, is what makes me happy. I will go to work and see my job for what it is-- a job that, as long as I pursue my dreams, I will never get stuck in.
I say get the book. Reading one story after the other might help you realize that you have no choice but to get on with your life and get over it. That's all.
maybe it's not a crisis.......2007-07-23
these gals define a concept but life in your 20s isn't always a crisis. i wanted society to pay attention to the hardships of life in your 20s, but now i feel bad for all the 20-somethings who are pegged as overindulgent whiners.
A lot of relatable material for someone in their twenties.......2007-05-11
I actually enjoyed reading this book. It had a lot of stories that I could relate to. And it assured me that my feelings of anxiety/depression are normal among others my age.
I do agree with other reviewers that there were no answers in the book... But why would you expect there to be??? The answers that some of us are seeking are within ourselves, and unfortunately no one (other than you, yourself) can solve your problems for you.
This book talks a lot about actually making decisions and trusting that they will work out Ok. But the authors can't guarantee that everything will be Ok, no one can. If readers are interested in finding all the answers to life through reading a book, then they really should give up the search - they won't find the answers anywhere. Only when you live life will you learn whether the choices made were the right ones. And if nothing else, hopefully you've learned something from the experience - which is really the most important part anyway.
Good if you are in your twenties.......2007-03-15
I had to read this book for a class. Overall, it felt like the kind of book a person will enjoy and find interesting if he or she is just out of college and going through the "quarterlife crisis." Otherwise, it seems too intent in demonstrating the existence and the characteristics of such a crisis. The book is composed mostly by excerpts from the interviewees, with few comments from the authors. If I didn't have to read it for the class I wouldn't have finished it, and I love to read almost any book.
This book is a must for a recent graduate.......2007-01-04
This book is a must for a recent graduate who is entering the real word... as in going to work. I found the book through a friend and I have recomended it to other friends. This book helped me get through the first six months of my job and realize that other people feel as overwelmed as I did.

Great all-purpose cookbook!.......2003-12-01
As a newlywed and cooking novice, I constantly refer to the Pillsbury Complete Cookbook for great meal ideas, kitchen tips, and general cooking information. I recieved it as a shower gift and I have to say, it is the most useful thing that I got! I love the ring bound binding and layout of the book. There are 12 sections that are divided with tabbed sections for easy identification. In each chapter, there are plenty of recipes, tips, and ideas in each one. There are appetizers and beverages; bread, soup, stews; beef and veal; pork and lamb; poultry; fish and shellfish; vegetarian cooking; eggs; cookies and candies; cakes, pies, and desserts; salads, vegetables, and sides, and a whole section on cooking tips and basics. I even made my first Thanksgiving dinner using recipes from this book (roast turkey, perfect mashed potatoes, southern succotash, perfect apple pie). The meal was fabulous! So far, everything that I have tried has come out flawlessly. I like how there are basic, easy to find ingredients for each recipe, and there are only about 3 steps on average to complete it. Along with every recipe there are pictures, hints, suggestions, and cook's notes where needed to help you through. Many recipes also have variations and all come with nutrition information, prep and cook times (which have all been on target) and serving information. The emergency substitution lists on the front and back covers have also saved me once or twice! Some of the recipes I have tried--hopefully they will help to show the range of recipes in the book: golden split pea soup, dill vegetable dip, Italian spaghetti with meat sauce, easy chicken parm. grilled caribbean chicken, chicken piccata, fish creole, shrimp scampi, mediterranean shrimp with bowties, italian barbecued swordfish with tomato relish, linguine with white clam sauce, grilled fish with homemade tartar sauce, quick tortellini salad, cheesy green beans, lemon butter asparagus, tomato, basil, mozzarella salad, and chocolate chip cookies. I definetly recommend this book to a beginner or even an experienced cook who is looking for new things to prepare in the kitchen.
A great book for anyone!.......2003-10-06
This was my first real cookbook! My sister in law gave it to me, and it has been a great way to start out my "cooking career." I especially like this book because it gives the nutritional information for every recipe. I like to know the calorie and fat gram contents of the meals I make, so this book allows me to keep track and still enjoy a delicious meal!
Pillsbury Knows How to Cook!.......2003-07-02
Having a good cookbook on hand is a must-have for every family, and sometimes it is difficult to sort through the enormous number of books on the market. I picked up this cookbook because I knew Pillsbury had many yummy dessert recipes, and I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of delicious recipes for every other category.
My family loves the Pan-Broiled Steak Smothered in Mushrooms, Lazy-Day Lasagna, Swiss Steak, Oven-Fried Fish, Asian Noodle Salad, and Baked Potato Soup (to name a few). Also worth mentioning were the recipes for Lemon Pudding Cake, Baked Rice Pudding, Peanut Butter Cups, Chocolate Carmel Layer Bars, and Espresso Brownies. I especially enjoyed the format of the book, which came in a sturdy binder with tabs for each food category. The book easily lays flat, and folds up neatly for storage. Make this cookbook a part of your collection and start making these yummy recipes today! Enjoy!
Easy to follow, tons of stuff, great for newbies.......2003-04-20
This book is great! It has a nice list with pictures of all those cooking terms that you want to know the meaning of but are too afraid to ask! (Like mince, chop, etc.)
It has more reciepes than you will ever need. It is nicely organized, has tons of pictures, and comes in a sturdy binder with tab dividers.
Excellent Book.......2003-01-15
Very comprehensive and well laid out! The "Emergency Substitutions" sections are an added plus!

The Secret Life of Walter Kitty is about a young cat who becomes a super hero, Wonder Cat. The book, though, is not wonderful at all. The pictures are boring and there is too much text for a 5 year old like me. Batman rulez.

I got this book and another by Maxwell, A Paw Island Christmas. After reading those with my family I got the Mixed-up Pup. These are great books, very easy to read and most enjoyable. The music on the CDs was wonderful. I checked out the web site, pawisland.com, and the kids can't get enough of it. Defintely looking forward to more by this author.

Customer Reviews:
Beautiful little charmer.......2005-12-30
Another favorite of my 3 1/2 year-old daughter, along with "Top Cat" by the same author. Hmmm...is it possible that Top Cat or his little brother is the cat in "Feathers for Lunch"?
That aside, the pictures in this wonderful book allow a child a good first look at several North American birds, and the text introduces your child to their birdsong. All the birds are "drawn" (I believe they are actually designed by paper cut), to actual life-size.
Great bird book.......2004-06-23
This is a wonderful little book for children to learn some common American birds and their calls. The story is about a cat trying to catch a bird for lunch but the bell on the collar keeps giving him away, hence "feathers for lunch" but the illustrations are almost all birds such as the Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Morning Dove, House Wren, Northern Flicker, etc... My little boy actually likes Ehlert's "Top Cat" better, but this story has seen many readings. My boy can tell the difference between several birds that he sees in his backyard. Recommended for the little birders.
Terrific Book.......2004-05-30
This book, along with TOP CAT by the same author, are my kids' favorite books (ages 6,4 and 2). And I love them, too! I never tire of reading them out loud, although both of my older children can recite the book and "read" it themselves now. We checked it out from the library and kept renewing it over and over because the kids loved it so much. We finally bought our own copy and I know the kids are going to fight over who gets to take it with them when they move out 15 or so years from now. :) It is a delightful story and I love how Ms. Ehlert labels everything. I especially like the details provided at the end regarding the birds shown throughout the book.
Continues to be a favorite.......2004-05-29
Entertaining, colorful, informative --- what's not to like? I have to admit, however, that I feel sorry for the cat.
A must-have for young children.......1998-03-30
This wonderful book was the first favorite book of both my children; now the 5-year-old chants along from memory when the 18-month-old demands her daily reading(s). My only complaint about Feathers for Lunch is that it isn't available in a board book form--ours is held together with tape!

WOW!!! IT'S BAD.......2006-09-04
They put this thing out every year and every year it seems to get worse. It is not user friendly.Good luck finding where the full moons are listed. You would think that one would be clear and listed in the front of the book,In past years it was. This was a book that myself and others I know would get as soon as it came out. This is the last one I will buy and most people I know feel the same way.I really wish that were not so.I wish they would fix the thing it could be great.A good start would be with the way it is organized.Things are thrown all over the place.Make information easier to find!!!
ouch.......2006-03-17
Reading this book made me feel stupid. I felt like I needed to take a class about the moon to be able to interpret the information. I tried and tried to read it and it just made my head hurt.

Ordinary Woman, Extraordinary Life.......2000-06-01
This book is the culmination of a lengthy relationship between Claire Robertson and a market woman in the area of her research work in Africa. Robertson aims to portray the everyday life and struggle of an average woman in Western Africa. What comes through the pages is no less than an ordinary woman leading an extraordinary life. Through the course of reading this book, you will hear Berida's life story in her own words. As she encounters one obstacle after the other, from problems with her husband, to theft, to the birth and tragic death of her children, she continues to rise above and triumph. For all those who believe that African women are submissive and unempowered this book will be an eye-opener.
