A Must Read!.......2000-06-11
This book is a very good conclusion to the Origin of the Dragonrealm series. It solves the mysteries of the Libraries of Penacles and is the first appearance of a Bedlam in the Dragonrealm. It is a little creepy but still very good. A must read for all Dragonrealm fans!

Beautiful.......2007-09-10
You won't find a lot of technical mumbo jumbo here, but what you will find is a beautifully written book of inspirational stories to soothe the cancer-ridden soul. I tend to shy away from anything that has "chicken soup" on the cover, but this was given by a colleague and I've treasured it. Great gift to newly-diagnosed loved ones and friends.
Uplifting .......2007-04-29
Cancer patients can find inspiration from short stories filled with hope and courage, written by survivors. Great for family members too.
Good for those who haven't had cancer too..........2002-12-27
If you have ever had a difficult time in your life, this is a good book for you. I read this book when I was having a very depressing time, a time where I was not sure I was going to make it out. This book, though, was a gateway for me. Since I don't have cancer, this book didn't inspire me in that way, but it did inspire me. I saw people that had a harder life then I did, and I realized that I would get through, that life would improve for me, and it has. :o)
Chicken soup for the Surviving Soul.......2000-05-16
After my diagnosis with breast cancer five years ago at age 28,this book was part of my salvation. Reading stories of otherssurvival helped me to realize that cancer is beatable. I now recommend this book to other cancer patients.
Faith, hope and love but the greatest of these is love.......2000-05-09
"Malignant", to hear this word when you or someone you love is diagnosed brings feelings of despair, fear and abandonment. The "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series gives you bits of humanity and makes you feel hopeful, trusting and accepting. The stories, poems and essays are put together to give to us encouragement. I myself am a 5 year survivor of stage 2 breast cancer and find the pages filled with new beginnings.
Book Description
The Cruising Chef Cookbook is the bestselling, most extensive sailors' cookbook ever written. Twenty-two years in print and ten reprints make it clear that sailors consider it essential equipment.
The new Cruising Chef is actually a book of nautical wisdom in the guise of a cookbook. It contains hundreds of tips plus more than 300 delicious recipes. Includes an extensive discussion of preparing for a voyage and resupplying in native markets.
"Special Cooking Techniques" describes pressure cooking, stir frying and grilling, particularly useful techniques for the galley chef. Greenwald's salty humor is found throughout the book. His vignette, "Planning for the Big Eater" is a delight. "Fishing" is a sidesplitting description of his idea of sport fishing.
Customer Reviews:
Simply excellent.......2007-03-15
The best of the breed... not only does Michael provide useful recipes galore, but also an excellent depth of conceptual information (which is what leads to galley competence). In my weight-sensitive boat, this is one of the very few books that is a permanent fixture in the on-board library.
Highly recommended!
Enticing recipes suited to enhance the joy of sailing.......2001-01-29
Now in an expanded and revised second edition, Michael Greenwald's The Cruising Chef Cookbook continuous to offer nautical wisdom, hundreds of ships and words of wisdom, short stories and vignettes on sailing, as well as enticing recipes perfectly suited to enhance the joy of sailing, from boating on rivers and lakes to nautical ventures on the high seas. The Cruising Chef Cookbook is an ideal gift for the novice sailor, and great for simply browsing through for anyone aspiring to one day set sail for adventure!
Excellent.......2001-01-26
Excellent recipes that kept two guys well fed during a year in the Caribbean and scurvy free when crossing the Atlantic.
The stories are very funny, the fishing guide hysterical - this guy has had some life.

The Cruising Chef Cookbook.......2000-06-10
Having just begun sailing, cruising and cooking aboard our sailing vessel, I wanted an up-to-date good reference manual. I found this book quite by chance. I consider this to be an essential item for the "chef" aboard ship. Every tip imaginable is included. The recipes are simple to prepare, yet elegant and tasty. To my surprise it also contains a section on what to do with certain food obtained "on the hoof" in 3rd world countries. I will buy this book for friends as a Bon Voyage present. A "must-have" book in the galley! The sailing stories scattered about the book are also good reading.

Worth its weight in gold.......2003-12-26
Without a doubt one of the most valuable books written, not only to the average dog owner but a MUST for the dog breeder and trainer. Pfaffenberger's work combined with Dr. Scotts and Fullers produced Guide Dogs for the Blind with a success rate of up to 98%.Any dog breeder or trainer who hasn't got this collection of incredible research in their library is really missing out. LOVE IT....LOVE IT....LOVE IT.
Lots of Practical Information.......2002-05-09
This book tells the story of Pfaffenberger's search to develop test for puppies to determine which would ultimately become good guide dogs. There are pearls of wisdom throughout this book. I have not seen info on issues he brings up before. Understand this is a story of what he went through but he discusses the science of dog behavior at that time and where his work went wrong and where it went right. Did you know it is best that hunting breeds be allowed to hunt even if they will do work where , if they hunt, it would be a detriment to the work. Allowing the hunting dogs to hunt for a season increased their success rate in these breeds. One might think this was counter-intuitive, but Pfaffenberger provides info to the contrary. I recommend this book for people who want even more detailed info on puppy tests and producing great working dogs.
New Knowedge of Dog Behavior.......2000-01-08
This is an excellent foundation book for anyone interested in dog behavior and/or training. This book explains how dog training/testing/methods came about as a result of the war dog effort, and how criteria was established for selecting dogs, inheritability factors, etc. It truly is a must for any serious dog trainer.

Book Description
Identifying and Harvesting Edible and Medicinal Plants in Wild (and Not So Wild) Places shows readers how to find and prepare more than five hundred different plants for nutrition and better health, including such common plants as mullein (a tea made from the leaves and flowers suppresses a cough), stinging nettle (steam the leaves and you have a tasty dish rich in iron), cattail (cooked stalks taste similar to corn and are rich in protein), and wild apricots (an infusion made with the leaves is good for stomach aches and disgestive disorders).
More than 260 detailed line drawings help readers identify a wide range of plants -- many of which are suited for cooking by following the more than thirty recipes included in this book. There are literally hundreds of plants readily available underfoot waiting to be harvested and used either as food or as a potential therapeutic. This book is both a field guide to nature's bounty and a source of intriguing information about the plants that surround us.
Customer Reviews:
If you want to know more about plants and applications.......2007-06-01
I bought this book for my mom and for all the unknown plants around my house. And I find it a pretty good book for research and fast lookups of odd plants and what they do.
Fantastic book.......2007-05-12
This is one fantastic book. It is loaded with information that has helped me find plants on my land that I would have never noticed. A must book to have.
Don't waste your money.......2007-01-13
While the author seems like a nice guy, I found this book to be an expensive rip. Aside from the fact that it is printed cheaply on thick newsprint, the author should have named it, "Plants I like in Central Park". It is clear that he has spent little time west of the rockies, let alone west of Central Park where most of his endearing anecdotes originate.
The author continually makes unsupported statements about "Indians or native americans'" use of plants "for female reproductive problems". Give me a break. What is a reader supposed to do with that so called knowlege?
The book is too big to be a field guide, and so disorganized that it is very hard to extract useful information. The biggest fault, however, is that it really only pays lip service to the western half of the USA, and it should have stated so in the title.
I'm going to try to sell mine asap.

Not an easy read.......2006-11-08
First, I don't know anything about plants, other than your common weeds that I try to kill every year that exist in my lawn. As it turns out, the dandelion is an amazing plant however, being a total novice and buying this book I am left with alot more questions than answers. I have read this book over and over and I still can't figure out most of the plants by looking at the drawings. I have a garden that I setup this year and I let every weed grow in it, some are now 3 feet tall, and more, and there are probably 50 varieties of plants in this patch, and I can maybe figure out what 5 of them are. If your looking for a reference based on your existing knowledge of plants, then this book might be good, as a "newbie" this book doesn't help you identify unknown plants but expects you to learn plants from the book and then know them when you see them.
I purchased this book to learn about wilderness survival and edible plants, I did learn some things, and some very easy to identify plants I found out are very usefull, but I am guessing I could have found all that on the web instead of buying the book. The illustrations, at least to me, are terrible. I still think a picture is worth a thousand words, but not a drawing.
The argument the book makes about photographs versus hand drawings is that it is easier to portray a plant in all of its stages in a drawing and easier to put in detail.
Well drawn book.......2005-08-14
I was impressed by the wonderful drawings and informative structure of the book.

Book Description
Ezekiel and the Leaders of Israel explores the attitudes expressed in the Book of Ezekiel towards the various different leadership groups within Judean society: the monarchy, the priests and Levites, the prophets, and the lay leadership (including z(eqenim, qarim) and other ruling classes). The thesis is advanced that there is a coherent and connected attitude taken toward these leadership groups throughout the book: those singled out for the most reproach in Ezekiel's critique of the past are marginalized in his plan for the future, while those who escape blame are assigned positions of honour. It is not simply a matter of tinkering with the status of a single group in society, but rather a radical and complete restructuring, designed to avoid repetition of the sins of the past.

Wonderful story!!.......2007-08-24
After visiting this area in San Francisco, I just had to get this book! It's a wonderful primary-level story for my first graders (read-aloud).
One interpretation of the life of a tree.......2006-03-07
This book does a decent job showing how a giant sequoia grew for more than 2,000 years only to have a large tunnel carved out of the base for joy rides, causing it to topple over and die. But the book's take on history has a Christian bent, telling us how old the tree was when Jesus was born, when the Christians were being persecuted by the Romans, and when the Christian Crusades were being carried out - a focus you might want to take into consideration if you are looking for educational books about nature.
A Wonderful Book About the Giant Sequoia.......2001-07-10
This is a Wonderful book about a giant Sequoia Tree in California. The book is beautifully illustrated and tells of the beginning of life from a small seed, to the over 2000 years of life the giant tree must endure. From a small seed taking life, a "Time Line of World History" is also displayed along the bottom of each page. We found this book originally in a bookstore at the Sequoia National Park Visitors in California. Although this book is intented for younger children, it has an underlying message for adults. My children, and my family enjoy reading this short story over and over again.

Customer Reviews:
Great Information, Out of Date.......2007-07-19
I just spent three weeks in Tanzania on vacation, and visited Dar Es Salaam, Arusha and the northern Safari circuit, and Zanzibar with the Rough Guide as my primary guide. I also hiked Kilimanjaro on a prearranged trip, without using the guidebook.
The major strength of the book is that it is written from the viewpoint on traveling that I share, that when traveling you should try to experience the country from as much of a local perspective as possible and avoid the tourist traps that isolate you from the actual country. In this respect it served very well, covering methods to tour the country (such as by daladala and local dhows) that were only occasionally used by tourists. Its recommendations were generally pretty good, although I didn't see too much difference between the highly recommended special picks and the standard listings for hotels and restaurants. His general suggestions for areas to go to and things to do I thought were very good, however.
The main issue with the book is that it was sometimes very out of date. Even though it was just published in 2006 I ran across some places that we were counting on from the book that had closed (DDC in Kariakoo (Dar Es Salaam) and the cultural tourism in Gezaloule). Also the inflation from the prices in the book was between 0 and 75%, so it was difficult to know for sure when you were being ripped off and when the prices had just increased.
Another issue with the book is that sometimes the author made it sound easier than it was to get around without knowing some kiswahili (the local language). Until we had a rudimentary grasp of the language it was sometimes tough to follow the directions.
Generally a good book that I would recommend to anyone that really wants to see the country, but verify your plans with locals when you're there.
Left me in a lurch more than once..........2007-06-21
I just got back from a three week business trip to Tanzania, and I have to say that this guide was worse than useless-- it was dangerous. On three seperate occasions I took taxis to the most highly recommended restaurants in the guide only to find myself in dangerously isolated areas with businesses that in no way shape or form resembled their reviews. If you are going to visit specific places listed in the guide I recommend you have your taxi wait until you can check out the inside for yourself.
The map of Arusha is not accurate. I walked with a single female traveler who needed to buy a bus ticket in Arusha, and its a good thing I was with her because the map was off on its location by about 8 blocks-- and the real location was in one of the most dangerous parts of town. In Dar es Salaam the one location listed as being able to offer cash advances for Mastercards with no pin does not offer such a service as I found out after spending the last of my shillings on a taxi to get there. I had more experiences like this using the guide than I have room to list here.
This guide was good for giving me a sense of orientation before I left, but was so out of date and just plain wrong that I would very strongly warn against using it in country. They claim the author has lived in Tanzania for years, but I do not see how this can be true. I saw so many other tourists in Tanzania using this book, so I know that many of you will buy it-- but please be careful and take ALL specific information with a very large dose of skepticism. Be careful.
Terrific resource.......2007-01-24
I got this book as a gift and hardly opened it before getting on the plane to Tanzania. Once there, however, we used it many times a day and found it to be accurate, comprehensive, and engaging. A great guidebook.
THE best guide on Tanzani, according to locals.......2006-07-05
That says it all. We attracted lots of attention by being the first to show up in Tanzania toting the new edition. The locals all agreed it was the most comprehensive & accurate guide available, & were really impressed by some of the things we knew from reading it. We had several offers to buy it when we left but wanted to keep it as a souvenir.
Be aware that the author included information on a FEW things that were planned but never opened. Nonetheless, it's an outstanding guide with good maps & lovely photos.

The New Jersey Gardener's Guide takes the guesswork out of gardening by offering state-specific, detailed information that generic national publications cannot. The book is the first of its kind for New Jersey because it provides readers with information on what plants will thrive in New Jersey backyards. Pegi Ballister-Howells knows the challenges of gardening in New Jersy and has written special sections that are devoted to plants for winter interest and plants for the shore area. The New Jersey Gardener's Guide is written for gardeners of all levels so everyone can achieve the garden of their dreams.
Customer Reviews:
Gardening in the Garden State.......2004-02-09
Beginning with a 17-page introduction that breezes through the basics of garden planning, planting and maintenance, the bulk of this book is made up of two-page plant profiles divided into fourteen sections: shade trees, evergreen trees, small flowering trees, shrubs, plants for winter interest, plants for down the shore, vines, lawns, ornamental grasses, groundcovers, roses, perennials, bulbs corms and tubers, and annuals.
While there are color photos they do not appear on every page. Instead, in field guide format, they are thumbnailed into one color section.
The best reference tool in the book is the zoned New Jersey maps that detail average frost dates, rainfalls and temperatures.
While the New Jersey Gardener's Guide is a worthwhile look for the long-time gardener, its real strength is as a gift for a new resident or a new gardener.
This is a really good book.......2003-05-09
... Several times I have wondered about a specific plant and found exactly the answer I was looking for in this book.
It has roses, shrubs bulbs trees vines grass and ground covers. It even had Beach Plum.
It doesnt seem to cover any vegetables. For vegetables my favorite book is Rodales Garden Answers. Just vegetables in depth yet easy and enjoyable to read.

Overall a very good reference.
However, I was amazed that the Butterfly Bush: Buddleia was not included. This does very well in my area. Perhaps the omission was due to space available in book.
Great Gardening Book.......1999-12-13
Quite possibly the best gardening book I have ever read
