Book Description
There's an unpleasant surprise waiting outside Wyoming college professor Sally Alder's office on a cold blustery afternoon: a female student, Charlie Preston, recently and brutally battered. Since Charlie refuses to call the cops, tell her family, or see a doctor, Sally has no other recourse but to give the damaged girl the coat off her back, the cash in her wallet, and to wish her good luck.
But two weeks after Charlie vanishes, the body of her estranged father is found, beaten to death in an alley. Now Sally is racing to find the missing girl before the police do, since she's far less convinced of Charlie's guilt than they are. And a killer may be hiding in a maze of lethal secrets and dark passions, preparing to inflict a terrible punishment on a frightened young woman . . . and perhaps on her overly inquisitive teacher as well.

Weakest title in the series (thus far).......2007-01-05
Having read all of the Mustang Sally mysteries, I have to say I found this one to be the least interesting. Perhaps the pattern is becoming too familiar to me: Sally encounters a dangerous situation. Sally's friends warn her not to get involved. Sally gets involved anyway, endangering her life and her relationship with Hawk. Then she solves the mystery and everybody lives happily ever after, sort of. But if you've read all of the others, you might as well read this one too. It just seems with each successive novel the author has less and less original to say. Part of the reason I think this one is less engaging than the others, is that Sally has much less interaction with the Langham family. Those characters are much more involved in the other books in the series.
superb academic mystery .......2006-03-01
University of Wyoming Professor Sally Alder always start her Women's Rights in America class with the English common law "Rule of Thumb" that a man must use physical force to correct anything he deems is misbehavior by his wife or children; even the bible affirms that this is God's decree. In the twenty-first century, Sally points out that we are more enlightened, but some still hold to the rod and sword.
Student Charlie Preston stopped attending class about a month ago, but now sits outside Sally's office battered; she refuses to go to the cops, her family or even a hospital to insure no internal damage. Sally provides Charlie with some money while assuming the coed's dad Brad, who has harmed her before, beat her up. Charlie vanishes again and not long afterward Sally learns that someone killed Brad. The obvious suspect is Charlie so Sally with the help of attorney Dave Haggerty investigates the homicide as she firmly believes her abused student is innocent.
In her fourth academic mystery (see BYE, BYE LOVE) Mustang Sally places herself in danger in an effort to prove the innocence of an abuse victim. The story line starts off very interesting as Sally lectures her class of mostly zombies on the Rule of Thumb that fascinatingly is never mentioned by Fundamentalists when quoting scripture as the rationale behind a social poison. The investigation is fun to follow while the heroine's relationship with Hawk is jeopardized by the attention Dave gives her. Fans of strong resourceful female sleuths will enjoy the Professor's latest escapades.

Enjoyable re-read.......2007-02-21
I first read this in about 1982, and though people complain about the writing, it fits perfectly with other fantasy fiction of the late 1970's. Granted, I didn't know anything about homosexuality at the age of 21 or so, but it gave me a gentle introduction into alternate lifestyles that still influences me. (and no, I'm not.)
Good reading, but anyone who stocks it should shelve it in the adult section... not in fantasy.
Passable, but still not it........2006-05-11
Generally, this part is better than part one (which is sort of unusual, as sequels generally get worse). I'm assuming you, the Reader, already have an opinion on part one (after all, who reads middle parts of a trilogy?), so I'll break this review into two parts, for those who liked and once who didn't.
If you liked part one, you will probably like part two too. There's a bit more action and slightly more adventure, but the general idea remains the same - you have one major character on his road to completeness. One can even say all the Tornor novels are some sort of 'initiation stories', and I'm not even talking about the explicit homosexual content involved.
If you disliked part one, you are probably not going to like part two, for the same reasons as stated above. The books generally share the same main idea and the same structure, but if you were on the "like/dislike" edge, you might find the more lively plotline to tip the favor to Lynn's side. Hence three stars and not two, which I have to part one.
Am I missing something?.......2006-05-03
I guess I must be! This book is horrible! Maybe I expected too much but as I am reading this book I want it to end. I am usually not the type to voice my opinion on most books. I am compelled to on this title! This will be my last purchase of this authors works. The story line and characters are confusing, the writing is poor and if I have to read one more "a fox barked" I will be compelled to throw myself from the second floor window! Thnks for letting me vent and now onto another hopefully better book.
Beautiful Fantasy.......2006-04-10
The middle and best book of one of my favorite trilogies, it's exactly what I want: no stock characters or swashbuckling, but lots of interesting, different, people. I did find the beginning disconcerting (unlike some other readers, I'm NOT good with incest
involving children), but the action was instigated by the child,
and was not portrayed as abusive. The fragility of the people, the
village, and the world seems very real to me. The originality of
these books is great, and they seem to me to be beautifully written. I only with Ms. Lynn would write MORE!
Pretty. Made me Cry. .......2005-08-20
I bought 'Dancers of Arun' 20 years ago for the cover art. The new cover looks a bit different now.
About a troupe of Dancers and people with psychic powers.
A few of the other reviewers here are upset about the sex. Personally, I have no problem with gratuitous sex and sexual orientations. You know, if you can't stretch your boundaries in Fantasy and SF, then where are ya?
I first read Elizabeth as a teenager and she really influenced my whole direction in writing fantasy.
I recommend 'The Sardonyx Net', another E.A.L. novel.
There is another sequel to 'The Dancers of Arun' - 'The Northern Girl', though the characters don't come back for an encore.
Book Description
How would you like to look and feel ten years younger in just ten weeks time?
Studies show that Americans on the whole are aging faster than ever with conditions like diabetes, cancer, and heart disease occurring increasingly earlier on in life—along with everyday age indicators like wrinkles and love handles. Now, Dr. Steven Masley, former medical director of the prestigious Pritikin Longevity Center® and a pioneer in anti-aging medicine, delivers a breakthrough plan to turn back the clock, inside and out—no matter what your age!
Originally featured on the Discovery Channel, the Ten Years Younger Program is designed to combat the roots of accelerated aging. Poor nutrition, toxins in the environment, stress, and exposure to free radicals all make us old before our time, along with a little-known aging culprit: low- and no-carb diets. As Dr. Masley shows, low-carb diets deprive the body of anti-aging phytonutrients and fiber, accelerate osteoporosis, and damage brain cells. So the first secret of turning back time is: Eat your carbs!
Each week, Ten Years Younger guides you through an age-busting combination of cutting-edge nutritional choices, relaxation techniques to reduce the aging effects of stress, and simple workouts designed to build lean muscle and trim and tone your body from head to toe. By following the plan for just ten weeks, you will:
Achieve significant weight loss—up to twenty-five pounds
Boost your energy levels
Rejuvenate your skin
Enhance brain function
Prevent and reverse the onset of diabetes and heart disease
Lower your cholesterol and blood pressure
Improve sexual vitality
With tools to help you assess how your body is really aging, weekly shopping lists and meal plans, and over 100 delicious recipes packed with antioxidants and anti-aging nutrients, Ten Years Younger is the healthiest, safest, and fastest way to take off the years—no surgery required!

Learn how easy it is to be younger.......2006-10-12
This book was an enjoyable read covering a lot of the same ground as some of the new diet books and anti-aging books, like RealAge and the Anti-Aging Zone. But it is useful and easy to implement.
Here are the diet guidelines:
1. Eat at least 30 grams of fiber a day.
2. Consume 4 to 5 cups of colorful fruits and vegetables a day.
3. Reduce saturated fat and shun trans fats.
4. Choose healthy omega-3 fats.
5. Substitute whole grains for highly processed, refined foods.
6. Seek out foods rich in calcium and magnesium.
7. Hydrate. (Eight cups of water a day).
8. Save room for a healthy dessert.
9. Watch your portion sizes.
10. Select healthy snacks. (Fruits, vegetables, and nuts).
He also has a plan for fitness, relaxation, detoxification, and what supplements to take. I have read 50 other books on diet and nutrition and completely agree with this authors suggestions.
The author discusses how our modern day lifestyle of refined foods, little exercise, and high stress are accelerating our aging. He does a great job simplifying the solution and showing how to live a much healthier life.
Read this book, it could extend your life span by 10 years or more.
Ten Year Tounger: The Amazing Ten Week Plan to Look Better, Feel Better, and Turn Back the Clock.......2006-03-11
Dr. Masley does an excellent job outlining a workable and realistic health plan which includes receipes that are delicious.Be sure to try the leek souffle receipe. As a former Atkins fan I have switched over for a senseable approach that I can live with. This is practical, hands on sutff! I appreciate his medical explanations and always enjoy another option in handling my diet and health. A must read for anyone who wants to increase their awareness and gain insight on how nutrition works!
Ten Years Younger: The not so amazing Plan............2006-02-24
This is just like any other diet book and "How to Stay Healthy" plan that is on the market. I really learned nothing new from the information provided. The Title of the book is catchy. In a nut-shell: DO Exercise, Don't Over Eat, and stay away from JUNK: Tabacco ,refined sugars, Alchohol and over- processed foods. Hell, If I had an MD after my name, I can write a book, Too!
I have to add, STAY AWAY from ALL foods that contain HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. We are what we eat!
Everyone should read this book!.......2006-01-09
After seeing and listening to Steven Masley, MD on the NBC TODAY show, and reading his book, "Ten Years Younger", I hope everyone will read this book. It is a well written book and filled with interesting and helpful information. The recipes are easy to follow and delicious. I think "Ten Years Younger" will land on the Best Seller list, and stay on it for a long time. It is the best health and nutrition book in the stores today.
Ten Years Younger is a winner for people of all ages........2006-01-09
Thank you, Dr. Masley for writing this book. You are doing your patients and readers a huge favor by taking the time to share your knowledge, research, and case studies. Your passion for a healthy lifestyle for us shines through loud and clear. A good medical doctor dedicates his lifetime to helping people live healthier lives. You are certainly helping all of us.
Book Description
If you're looking for another stodgy, holier-than-thou "connoisseur's" book, you've come to the wrong place. The Big Book o' Beer celebrates the wide world of beer in all its shameless glory -- from the highbrow to the Lowenbrau, from trendy Belgian microbrews to the famous "old man bars" of Las Vegas. It's packed with amazing photographs and fascinating beer-related information about history, geography, science, arts, crafts, and more. Want to tour the ten biggest breweries on the planet? Interested in making dazzling arts and crafts from old beer cans? Need a recipe for beer-flavored ice cream? Want to know the science behind beer bellies, beer goggles, and beer foam? The Big Book o' Beer has it all-plus drinking games, drinking songs, vintage cans, classic advertisements, an "atlas of beer," and too many other features to list here. It's an inspiring tribute that every cervezaphile (a.k.a. beer lover) will cherish!

The Big Book o'Beer.......2007-05-12
This is a very fun and educational book for beer lovers. Lots of info and great photos/illustrations.
GOOD SUBJECT, BUT . . . ........2006-03-25
I'm sorry, Mr. Swierczynski, but, much as I love beer, I fund your book both superficial and a sophomoric.
Maybe it's because I worked in the industry, briefly, back in the 70's when the big breweries were gobbling each other up and decimating the ranks of the regionals. Beer is a fascinating subject, because it has been so ubiquitous over the years and because it has taken so many shapes and forms. The book only whetted my appetite for more information in so many areas and then didn't provide it. The title, "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know . . ." promised more, then didn't deliver. Perhaps if you promoted it as an introductory work, the reader would expect less.
The sophomoric part of my evaluation primarily refers to your constant commentary about "getting hammered" or otherwise over-indulging. We've all done it, of course, but a true beer lover doesn't drink it to get drunk. The whole thing makes you sound like a frat rat rather than an adult.
You are right about one thing -- it's the greatest beverage in the world, and has been for a long time.
Extremely knowledgeable, fun reading throughout.......2005-10-04
This is a fun reading throughout, with the big plus of being very enlightening. The author seems very knowledgeable. Also a lot of beautiful and/or fun illustrations. Just great !
Great book, great writer........2005-07-27
An outstanding, and often funny, book by one of my favorite authors. If you liked this one, check out some of his other books.
Seriously, one of the best young writers of this generation. And I'm not just saying this because of the great brew in my hand.

Purrrfect Pet Book.......2007-03-20
Oh, the Pets You Can Get by Tish Rabe is an excellent book for young readers who like animals and rhyming. This book is also a good book for kids who like Dr.Seuss. This book is designed to teach young readers how to take care of pets. I think this book is for all ages. I also this book this for the kids who want to become animal experts. The pictures are beautiful. They have very bright colors. I think this will be the first thing that young readers would notice. In the pictures are pets. You might notice other characters like The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and the boy and girl. I think the pictures are the most unique element in the book. This book takes place in Gerpletz. Gerpletz is a place where the pets are treated like people. In Gerpletz, they have pets like cats, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits and parakeets. In the book, Thing 1 and Thing 2 give you facts about the animals. Even though Gerpletz was made up, I want to go there. Oh, the Pets You Can Get is very useful. It gives you information and tips on how to keep your pet and you healthy. If a young reader gets stuck on a word, they can look in the glossary. It also teaches about the pet individually. This book can also be used as a guide. Oh, the Pets You Can Get teaches you about pets, but it also teaches that your pet loves you more than anything else. You can learn a lot from this book. If you have a pet you might want to read this book. I love Oh, the Pets You Can Get because anybody can read it. Even if you're an adult or in kindergarten
A good picturebook introduction to the world of pet ownership.......2005-09-12
New to the Cat in the Hat's Learning Library series is the zany coverage of animal friends, featuring the Cat in Hat illustrations by Aristides Ruiz and Joe Mathieu and telling of the Cat in the Hat's visit to a land of pets. Containing nonfiction information but reading with the drama and grace of fiction, Oh, The Pets You Can Get: All About Our Animal Friends is a good picturebook introduction to the world of pet ownership.

Customer Reviews:
Outstanding educational and professional tool.......2006-01-14
As a graphic designer working with fonts all day every day, I have a library of several hundred reference books about type. I use Rookledge's more than all the others put together. The authors have devised a method of classifying fonts that facilitates two important tasks: First, identifying a font from an incomplete sample. Rookledge's shows you at a glance which characters are unique to a given font. Second: choosing a font that has the right "feel" or emotional content for a particular text.
A third thing to love about this book: the authors don't waste page space on stupid fonts. With somewhere in excess of 20,000 fonts in circulation now, there are still just a few dozen timeless classics and a few hundred more that are worthy of serious study. There are a few that I would like to have seen included that aren't, but precious few.
Anyone working to push the printed word to the limits of its expressive power will find this book invaluable.
Only slightly better?.......2005-10-28
I purchased the 1st ed. of this book years ago. I still find it invaluable. I thought the reprint would find more content and an updated design. While there is slightly more content, I think that the poor quality sample typography scans (assumedly from the original book) cause me to wonder if I should just keep using my original edition. It appears that even the linework and sample names have been rescanned.
I do like the updated cover design, front matter and dividers. I also enjoyed the preface by Frutiger, but I really wish more time had been spent with newly set samples.
