I highly recommend this Callhan Garrity Mystery series. You can't go wrong reading any of the books in this series. The plots are well done and the characters are very well developed and lots of fun. A good read. Enjoy!

I love the way Kathy Trocheck writes her characters. I really enjoy this series and she has also written under the name Mary Kay Andrews. Check out those books as well if you like this author.

We Need This Series To Continue.......2004-12-28

I've read all of the Callahan Garrity books.....twice! I love the charachters in them and the plot twists are all great. I am always unable to guess "who-done-it" and really don't want to put the books down while reading. This book was no exception.
This one was very entertaining and a great mystery. But, is it to be the last of the series? I sure do hope not. It ends in a way that could prove to be the last; but there are so many more story lines that can come later. I've been unable to find a web site for Mrs Trocheck, but hope someone will forward this to her. Anyone who loves mysteries that are also a bit light-hearted will love the series. Each book is wonderful by itself. It is the recurring characters in them that realy gave me a lot of enjoyment. This was no exception; and will hold your attention from the very beginning.

This plot driven farce, is wieghed down with banal dialogue that makes me cridge each time I saw any quotation marks. But, for a "mystery" novel, in which the outcome seems to be told to you from the beginning, it cannot be given a "1 Star" rating b/c that would be for a book that was trying to say something, and no effort is put forth in the words that are strew across the pages with the accuracity and grace of a granite boulder.

This was the first Kathy Trocheck Hogan book I read and after this I went out and bought them all! Fantastic story!! Good police work, good murder mystery, just enough humor to break the tension! You will get to know and love the characters! I cannot wait for her to write another book!

An excellent book for Xena fans to read.......1998-06-10

This book seems to have struck the same vein as Xena, warrior princess - albiet years earlier. Cheon is more overtly sapphic than Xena, but her adventures are, if anything, more entertaining than those of the great warrior princess herself. What happened to vols 2 and 3? My Xena-loving friends would kill for this book. Pity it ain't in print.

Dr. Atkins' New Carbohydrate Gram Counter has a slightly misleading name. While grams of carbohydrate are listed for various foods, there are also protein and fat grams listed for each entry. With more than 1,200 listings, including hundreds of brand-name products, this makes a handy, portable reference. It should be noted, however, that that the Gram Counter is really meant as a companion to Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution; the brief dietary information included in the introduction to the Gram Counter isn't of much use by itself.

A Handy Tool for Monitoring Net Carb Intake.......2007-08-30

This pocket-size book gives basic nutritional information, including total carbs and net carbs, on hundreds of foods. Most products round the number of grams of fiber to the closest whole number (or the closest higher whole number) on their labels, but Atkins lists fractional totals of grams of net carbs and fiber. There is also a modestly-sized listing of common fast foods.

In his section on vegetables, Atkins touts the value of cruciferous vegetables, garlic, etc. (p. 84). This alone should refute the silly myth of the Atkins diet being an all-meat diet. Atkins also includes a listing of "forbidden" high glycemic-impact foods. These should be enjoyed only occasionally, in very small portions, and then only by people on Lifetime Maintenance.

Portion size is important in weight control. But many conventionally-listed portions (e. g., in oz) are hard to visualize, and recommended portions are often much smaller than most people realize. For this reason, Dr. Atkins provides visual references (pp. 19-20). For example, a 3 oz serving of meat would be the size of a small pack of cigarettes.

This purse-size book is indespensible! It lists total carbs, fiber, net carbs, protein, fat, and calories to help you make the best choices, or even endulge a little while knowing how much you are doing so!

My copy is dog-eared and I carry it everywhere with me. When I think I might want something (like grapes, for example), I can look them up in the booklet right there in the supermarket and decide if they will fit into my diet plan or not. (The grapes were too high in carbs, in case you were wondering.)

The book also lists many common and name brand items, both high and low carb.

It is split into several sections such as beverages; milk, cream, butter, and yogurt; breads, muffins and crackers; fruit; pancakes, waffles, and breakfast pastries; poultry; sweeteners, jams, and syrups; etc.

It even has a section for "dining out" with tips on dining away from home, and a "fast food" section with counts for popular foods at fast food restaurants.

If you are watching either your fat or your carbs, you need this book!

I was very pleased with this book! It made counting daily carbs and sticking to the Atkins' diet plan a lot easier. It also showed you how to eat real food, not just diet food, as well as restaurant and fast food. I would highly recommend this book to anyone counting carbs!!!!!

This book focuses mainly on new ways to cook familiar vegetables - nothing too esoteric - yet nothing boring. The recipes are divided up by Appetizers, Soups & Stews, Main Dishes, Side Dishes and Salads. They are easy to read and follow, and the results are always great - I have never made a dish I didn't like. I cook at least one or two recipes from this book every week. All selections are low fat and relatively quick to make.

I realize this is one of the definitive studies of the PBGV, but for the average prospective pet owner, it is just a slog. The first 200-some pages are devoted to the evolution of the breed from one country and century to another. Ho hum. It wasn't until page 243 that I finally found what I needed to know about the characteristics of the dog that would matter to me as a potential owner.

I just got my first PBGV in Augest of 2001 and before I got my wonderful little pbgv I bought this book and it helped me alot understand more about the breed and it also helped me in learning about the differnt begining kennels of the first PBGV's. It also help me understand how this wonderful breed came to be. Great book - I think?.......2000-02-24

I got a PBGV back in Dec '99 and the breeder recommended this book to me. So-o-o, I told my son to order it for me for Christmas, and, lo and behold, here it is Feb 24th and I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED IT! Pretty soon, I'll know the breed well enough to write my own book! Don't believe that stuff about 4-6weeks for delivery - if a book's gone out of print, wouldn't it be more customer friendly to recommend ordering a different title, rather than frustrating a potential buyer who then chooses to avoid your products in the future? BAH!

With so little in print about the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Ms. Steidel has done a wonderful job of researching the breed's origins and history. She presents her findings to us in this unique book, along with valuable information on the personalities, grooming requirements, health concerns, training challenges and more. In researching this breed before aquiring my first PBGV, I have found this book to be an excellent resource.

In the early nineteenth century, thousands of emancipated and freeborn blacks from the United States returned to Africa to colonize the area now known as Liberia. In this, the first systematic study of the demographic impact of this move on the migrants, Antonio McDaniel finds that the health of migrant populations depends on the adaptability of the individuals in the group, not on their race.

McDaniel compares the mortality rates of the emigrants to those of other migrants to tropical areas. He finds that, contrary to popular belief, black immigrants during this period died at unprecedented rates. Moreover, he shows that though the emigrant's mortality levels were exceptionally high, their mortality patterns were consistent with those of other populations.

McDaniel concludes that the greater the variance between the environment left and the environment entered, the higher the probability of contracting a new disease, and, in some cases, of death from these diseases. Additionally, a migrant's health can be affected by dietary changes, differences in local pathogens, inappropriate immunities, and increased risk of accidents due to unfamiliar surroundings.
