Keep Them Coming Michael.......2006-08-21
Michael Jecks gave up a career in the computer industry when he began writing the internationally successful Templar series. Well all I can say is the Computer Industries loss is the reader's gain. He has now written about a score of the Knights Templar mystery books featuring Sir Baldwin de Furnshill and Bailiff Simon Puttock and there are more to follow.
During the trouble reign of Edward II Squire Roger Throwleigh fears that any day might be his last, as the pain in and around his heart increases. He is worried about the fate of his young son and heir, Herbert, but he takes consolation in knowing that his wife Katherine will protect the boy.
Unfortunately just days after Roger falls dead from his horse in the middle of an argument with a tenant he is about to evict, a cart driver runs over Herbert, in what seems to be a cruel accident.
Sir Baldwin is already at the Throwleigh property as he had gone there to attend the funeral. Against the mother's wishes he quickly examines the boy and sure enough, the skull shows signs of being crushed by a heavy object, but Sir Baldwin is not convinced and decides to investigate further.
A thoroughly well-written book.......2003-09-04
This historical mystery is thoroughly researched and well plotted. Set in the West Country of medieval England, the story uses the remote moorland setting to good advantage as Sir Baldwin and his friend Simon investigate the death of a young lad who was said to have fallen under a cart. This was a common enough occurence, hardly something for the Keeper of the King's Peace to investigate. But this lad, who recently inherited a large estate on the death of his father, had many enemies - starting, apparently with his mother.
This book has an unusually intriguing cast of characters, from the evil yet all-too-human priest to the charming foreign knight who is not what he appears to be. Even the children in this book are characters to be reckoned with. If you enjoy the medieval mystery buy not just this book but the whole series.
Squire Throwleigh's Heir.......2000-08-11
A good mystery, although it did tend to get bogged down at times. Not as intriguing as the previous mysteries in the series but enjoyable nontheless. Part of the problem I suspect is that few of the characters are likeable; it is especially difficult to feel any real empathy for Lady Katherine, who looses both her husband and son in a matter of days. However the book is rich in detail and atmosphere, and is, as I had already noted a rather good mystery.

The true power of the ring.......2006-05-11
Basic storyline: An all powerful being calling himself Oblivion comes into the galaxy and has the ability to cause cosmic events (black holes, ect). When the JL is powerless to stop him GL goes back to Earth to get more help, but the JL's still in space vanish. With Kyle as the only hero left, he wishes for help and out of nowhere 6 Green Lanters fom other dimensions, and timelines come to help out. Discovering that Oblivion was an old comic character Kyle drew as a kid, one grean Lantern and one other Earth hero search the universe for a weapon called the Omega Option. When the GL's find Oblivion on the reamains of Oa, it is revealed to Kyle that Oblivion is a part of Kyles sub - consious, and was created by the ring. Unknown to him, the power ring took much of Kyle's self doubt, hate and pain and used it to created Oblivion, a free thinking lifeform. Kyle also discovers that the other Green Lanters are also of his creation. In his wishign for powerful help back on Earth, the ring took parts of his characteristics and created other Lanterns. When realizing this he obsorbs botht he Lanterns and Oblivion, back inside of him. Kyle learns how to deal with having his immense power and learse to better contol his feelings
This is a great comic to show how powerful the Lantern ring can be and how much control someone needs to wield the power to create something great or destroy it all.

The is yet another book premised on the assumption that your teen (or child) is some kind of alien. Remember -- you were once a child and a teen yourself, and your child will eventually be an adult, and maybe even a parent. Just relate to your child as a person, and forget about this book.
A must-read for every parent!.......2006-05-04
As parents of teens, we tend to think that--by now--we have pretty much figured out what makes our kids tick...hormones, immaturity, psicological issues...right? Well, maybe that is only part of the picture. This books does a wonderful job of going beyond that, to the neurological foundation of behavior itself. It clearly explains the ramifications of the changes that are going on at a neurological level in the brain of teens and how that, consequently, translates into "teen behavior".
Your kid is not "crazy"...their frontal cortex just needs more time to develop! A reassuring read for every parent!
Not an Instruction Manual.......2006-03-16
Strauch's book answers many questions as regards my teens' behaviors. My last one at home is 16; I purchsed this book to help me understand what is happening within that skull of his. Strauch utilizes her research to not only explain what my own child is going through but also helps to clarify the behavior of youth today as far as impulsivity, criminality, and various other compelling and noteworthy up-to-the-minute pertinent and important information we need to help our teenagers be successful in this day and age. The book is written somewhat like an investigative report, with a humourous punch, and is easily read by parents and teachers alike. It is an enjoyable and worthy read.
Good Read for Parents, Not Neurologists.......2006-02-23
This was a good read for parents of teens or pre-adolescents who are not in the medical field or some related field. The author is not a researcher but a journalist putting together what they've learned about the topic. (Some parents may have already done this for themselves.) It's not as detailed as someone well-read on the topic may hope, but for someone just becoming interested, perhaps someone experiencing shocking episodes in their own home with their own primal teen, it's a good starter book! Glad she put it together. Hopefully there's more to come with more neurological detail.
So That's What's Going On in Their Heads!.......2005-05-13
This book has helped me understand so much about what is going on with my teen! I could not put this book down. Now when my son does something odd, I just think, well at least I know why. Of course their is still your active parenting involved, but you know how to approach things better, and with an understanding of what may, or may not, have been going on in their little teenage brains. Buy it.

Greateasy to follow recipes.......2007-01-14
I love this cookbook so much that I am buying a replacement as I have worn out the first one over the 10 years I have it. A personal fav is the Jambalya, easy to make and delicious. The recipes give alternatives (chicken instead of shrimp etc) and the range of recipes is huge. If creole is of interest to you, this book will get you started in a great way.

The best of Louisiana cookery comes from a restauranteur and French-trained chief who uses his background to select the definitive and best dishes of New Orleans. Creole cooking has a reputation for complexity: not so in The 100 Greatest New Orleans Creole Recipes, which adapts dishes for home use and simplifies many of the steps involved in producing the classics. No color photos here - but the simplified dishes don't need them.
The Real Deal.......2000-11-30
I've used this book for about six years now, and have never been disappointed. Mr. Guste's Chicken Creole is soulful and authentic, and his Gumbo is gospel truth. He does not trifle with passing fancies such as lite, fusion or lo-fat anything. His ingredients are unapologetically authentic: many cooks outside the South may need to do some creative substitution. A minor complaint is that this cookbook, like most nowadays, seems not to have been edited at all, and a few ingredients and steps are missing, so a smart user will read carefully and in some cases extrapolate. But the recipes are simple and honest, well within the skills of the average cook, and the results will make you appreciate the only high cuisine native to America.

This was good if you want to have a basic understanding of what your cat's body movements mean and how they translate to how they are feeling. I recommend to read it with your children as there are many good pictures and it will better help them understand when to pet the cat and when to let it alone!

I bought this after reading other reviews, but I was extremely disapponted in this book. The title is very misleading. I've had cats for years and wanted to learn more about their behavior and the differnt types of meows. This book does NOT do this. It's very basic and they write about behavior most children could figure out after being around their cat for a while. It mostly addresses cats behavior with other cats which an idiot can figure out without having to read about it. Not worth the money.

Not a Bad Little Book!.......2005-12-12
The author seems to know her stuff.
The book has an excellent lay out. Lots of pictures, easy to navigate, wonderful index, sort of like a FAQ on cat behavior.
Everyone from the novice to experienced cat owner is likely to learn something about the subject.
The subject itself is a little bland. Before you cat lovers all get upset about this remark, let me explain. According to Bailey the majority of cat behavior is rather simple, basic needs for safety, exploration, food, etc. Cat behavior is also rather simple: tail up or down, rub off scent, etc. This makes portions of the book repetitious. This is not a complaint. It is better to be truthful and a little bland than to invent a bunch of human response and lay those on the cat.
All in all it's a good book and worth owning. Cat owners won't be disappointed.

This book was wonderful - I have had cats all of my life and have read many books and articles regarding them - but this one did answer a lot of questions.
Easy reading, great captions and lovely photographs !

Must Have.......2000-04-03
This book is a must have for the beginner, and a good reference for the more experienced plastic jewelry collector. Full of color plates only, the variety of collectible pieces begins to be appreciated. There are also prices attached to the pictures without having to find this information elsewhere in the book.
That, of course, is the one big flaw with the book. The prices were applicable in 1996. They are not necessarily what you can expect to pay in this exploding collectible field in 2000, but it will give you some idea of what to expect.
The book is not the be all-end all of plastic collectibles. As the title of the book states, it does not devote itself to Bakelite or Celluloid or any other one type of plastic. You will need other references to find out more specifics like what type of plastic you are looking at, how to test for the material, how to spot different designers etc.
What it does have are pictures of a wide range of objects including bangles and earings typical in most books, to purses, eyeglasses and even collectible childrens pieces.
