Very Entertaining Series Debut!.......2007-10-02
This delightfully funny cozy introduces us to Jaine Austin, a freelance writer in Los Angeles who specializes in writing things like resumes, personal ads, and brochures for plumbing companies. When Jaine is asked to write a love letter to sexy aerobics instructor Stacy Lawrence on behalf of geeky Howard Murdoch, she has no idea that Howard will end up being arrested for Stacy's murder. Jaine feels that Howard must be innocent, so she ensues on a hilarious search of trying to find the murderer herself.
This book was laugh out loud funny. I can't wait to read the other stories in this series!
Very cute and super fast read.......2006-10-19
This was a very, very fast read for me and I like books I can get into and finish. The main character is one many can relate to and it was just a fun read. I have started the series and am up to the 3rd book and they are all very fast and fun. I'd recommend anyone who likes a "cozy" mystery with humor and a "bumbling" heroine to pick this one up!
Fun mystery.......2005-12-08
There is a lot of humor in this book, I think everyone will enjoy it. Jane is a character to watch. I read this book in 2 days and really enjoyed it. I hope to read the rest of the series to see how the author develops all of the characters.
Loved it, loved it, loved it!.......2005-10-03
I read "Last Writes" first and adored it and loved this one just as much. Jaine Austen is the best super slueth to come down the pike in ages. I love her to death (no pun intended)! Super hilairous, super realistic, and super engaging. Buy this book. You won't regret it! (We need more books like this one!)
A Date To Remember.......2005-03-17
Jaine Austen, owner of This Pen For Hire a writing service in Los Angeles is hired by geeky Howard Murdoch, to write a love letter to aerobics instructor, Stacy Lawrence.
Jaine has written personal ads for clients, but this was her first love letter and she was a little worried since Howard had never actually met Stacy. But she gives it her all and is surprised when Stacy accepts Howard's offer for a date. Could it be that she's fascinated with geeky guys or maybe the hint in Jaine's letter which might have made her think that Howard Murdoch's uncle was Rupert Murdoch.
Either way, Howard never got a chance to find out because when he arrives for his date on Valentines Day, he finds Stacy bludgeoned to death with a thighmaster.
Jaine appears to be the only person who believes Howard isn't guilty and using all her skills, she tackles the suspects, which include Andy, her married boyfriend, Jasmine, Andy's former girlfriend who was angry Stacy stole him, Elaine who was upset that Stacy got the good apartment in the building when she was next in line.
As an added bonus, she gets to meet Cameron Bannick, an antique dealer neighbor of Stacy's who definitely makes her heart race a little faster.
With the help of Cameron, and her friend. Kandi she searches for the clues that will lead her to the killer before the killer finds her.
Highlights:
This book is a laugh riot. I think it is the funniest mystery book I have read. Jaine is a great character, very witty and bright.
Her detective work. Jaine does some real investigating, pretending to be a reporter, or from the police, whatever it takes to get her in the door.
Good mystery, although I figured out who the killer was but not the motive or how it was done.
Lance, her next door neighbor who has sonar hearing and is constantly complaining about the noise she makes,
Her writing class of senior citizen's.
Lowlights:
There are no lowlights in this book other than I guessed the killer, but since it didn't affect the enjoyment of the book, it's not a major problem.
One of the best first books in a mystery series that I have read.

Book Description
Feared by a world unwilling to accept those who are different. Led by their teacher, Professor Charles Xavier, the X-Men are dedicated to protecting humanity from the forces of chaos, hoping to one day rid the world of an even greater darkness?the prejudice that has made them outcasts.
Returning from another dimension, the X-Men discover that Earth is now ruled by one of the most notorious tyrants the world has ever known?Doctor Doom. Far more disturbing than the police state in which they find themselves, however, is the fact that some of the world?s greatest Super Heroes?including the X-Men?s closest friends?have allied themselves with the legendary villain.
Searching for answers, hunted by old enemies and former allies, the mutant adventurers face their greatest challenge: deposing an armor-clad madman with an entire world against them.
Standing between them and victory, though, is their deadliest enemy?the malevolent Magneto, who has his own plans for dominating the world?

dissapointing.......2004-06-24
This is what happens when you take a good idea, stretch it over too many media forms, and attempt to milk it for all its worth. This pathetic excuse for a novel lowered my faith in Marvel. The storyline is slow, ridiculous, and frankly boring. Fine to read if you have nothing else to do. But really, bunny, stick with the comix.
difficult not to read.......2004-04-23
I cant seem to put it down. when i do, i switch the lights back on and read more. it's pact with action and energy. the xmen after a mission on another earth returned to find out no one remembers them even their friends. their mansion became a death camp, Doom was the emperor of everyone and ororo is his empress. read the book, its more than worth reading.
Good Book.......2003-01-30
This Book was great. I recomended it to any X-Men fan. It has alot of action and a good story. My only warning is once you start this book you won't be able to put it down!!
My thoughts on the book.......2002-06-29
This book ruled!. The only part that suprised me greater than Gambit's death was the ending. Get this book if you like Dr. Doom
What an awesome book.......2001-12-06
This is an awesome book. Once you finish the first chapter, you just want to read more. Once you read the first page, you become captivated to read the book. The first page is totally awesome.

Book Description
One week: That was all the time given to the X-Men to correct a universe-threatening flaw after Roma, Supreme Guardian of the Omniverse, discovered that unknown forces had severely altered the structure of the heroes' home dimension. It hadn't taken them long to track down the source of the disruption: the tyrannical Doctor Doom, in possession of the Cosmic Cube -- a device that allows its owner to twist reality and create their personal vision of a perfect world.
The X-Men failed in their mission, though, and now the Cosmic Cube is in the hands of their longtime enemy Magneto, the Master of Magnetism. Like his former friend Professor Xavier, Magneto has a dream for all mutant-kind -- but his is of a day when Homo Superior freely walk the Earth, not as equals to the human race, but as their masters.
Now that day has come, and the only hope the world has to survive the mutant overlord's reign is in the hands of Professor Xavier and the one X-Man not affected by the reality-changing powers of the Cube: Betsy Braddock -- the ninja-trained telekinetic known as Psylocke.
But unknown to any of the players in this cosmic chess match there is one final participant waiting in the wings, and he is about to make his first move....

Awesome book.......2004-03-04
This book is extremely well written, and exciting. A major character dies (not telling which one!) in a creepy and emotional way. I would recommend the entire set of books to any reader who is a fan of the X-Men.
Also, is it just me or does the author put a lot of the locations in the DC/Metro area? I guess he is from there!
loved this book.......2003-02-16
I came into this series with this first novel. It wasn't hard to gather what happened at all with the wonderfull writing of roman. He brought you up to speed quickly and enveloped you in the book. It was very creative. I had to buy the third installment the day after I finished this one, because i had to know what happened next. There wasn't a whole lot of action, but it was enough to be percieved as a novel and not a comic book. I think that if the movie studios got a hold of this series, it would make a ton. I loved it!
This was better than the first!.......2002-06-29
This book was so cool because it showed how smart Dr. Doom really is (smarter than that cretin Reed Richards)Even in a place where no weapons can be fired Doom still makes a weapon and eliminates Roma the omniversal majestrix(The supposed protector of the omniverse) The Red Skull also one of my favorite villains defeats the highly over-rated Magneto and Prof. X and gets the Cosmic Cube! In the third one The Red Skull and Dr. Doom (my favorites) will have to fight and The Red Skull has an advantage with the Cosmic Cube, but as we've all seen Dr. Doom has a trick up his sleeve.
cant wait for the third book.......2002-04-29
I've probably read all of the X-men novels out and this trilogy is looking to be as good as the mutant empire one. THe first book set up a dictatorship with Doom and this one shows how Magneto's dream could work and shows sympathy for magneto because he only fight's for his dream. I have no idea how Roman will fix this situation because of the bleak ending. This isn't as action packed as the mutant empire trilogy but the intrigue and suspense is better.
this book rocks.......2002-03-02
this book has everything that i could want. adventure, mystery, and a large bit of suprise. get it and the first, chaos enigine

Book Description
Despite all the bare midriffs dancing across MTV, or even walking into the Emmys and Oscars, there has been no book for women looking to develop sleek and sexy abs. But now there's a workout plan for women who aspire to look like Britney, Madonna, or Janet Jacksonor who just have to get ready for halters, crop tops, and all those revealing summer fashions.
The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs: Women's Edition by James Villepigue is the first book on abdominal training written just for women. Following on the phenomenal success of The Body Sculpting Bible for Women, author James Villepigue has put together a complete exercise and nutrition program designed specifically for women seeking a sleek waistline.
A key element to success is identifying and toning all the muscle groups. The traditional regimen of crunches and more crunches works just one set of muscles, the rectus abdominis, but The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs reveals that the abs are not one layer of muscle, but several overlapping layers: the rectus abdominis, the internal and external obliques, and the often-overlooked transverse abdominis (TVA). All of these muscles must be exercised in order to achieve sleek, toned, sexy abs.
What's more, The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs goes beyond just abdominal exercises, offering exercises that work the entire core. "Without dietary modifications and total body workouts to promote fat loss," Villepigue advises, "no amount of abdominal training will miraculously melt away fat. In fact, people who work so hard on those crunches may actually be promoting postural imbalances that can set them up for future injury."
The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs exercises and 14-Day Workouts are a safe and holistic program of ab work that helps women reach their goals safely and quickly. Designed specifically for women, the unique 14-Day Workout has a progressive, ever-changing program that provides the variety and motivation needed to get results in record time. The exercises work all of the abdominal muscles, as well as the rest of the body's "core," to produce a lean and sexy waistline.
The Body Sculpting Bible for Women, the best-selling first book in this series, was a run-away hit with exercisers across the country. Now the author of this proven workout plan helps women identify and work all of the muscles of the abdomen, to create a head-turning mid-section.

The Body Sculpting Bible For Abs: Women's Edition.......2007-08-15
Such a great workout book that I need to buy it again. My 20 year old daughter stole it from me and took it back to college with her. A great book to bring to the health club with you as well.
Very informative and useful book.......2007-06-27
I can actually say this book taught me several workout routines and abdominal exercises that up until now I did not know existed. There are warm up exercises for the abs, medicine ball exercises for the abs, bench exercises for the abs, etc. The book is a very comprehensive manual, it has everything for all fitness level. If you are serious about getting your abs in shape this is a must have book
Not as complete as I'd hoped.......2007-06-11
This book is well-organized and has great pictures of the exercises (even though two of the models do look angry), but it does not specify muscles or muscle groups affected in each move, like many other ab books do. This makes it less useful as a resource when designing your ab workouts. It is very reader-friendly, however, and has lots of other options besides floor exercises for working your abs. If you have a Swiss Ball or Medicine Ball, or access to a gym, you'll probably use more of the moves described.
Ab Workout Book.......2007-05-18
This really is a great reference to have. It's given me lots of ideas and there are many exercises can be done without any equipment or little equipment.
A must have for anyone who wants to get their abs in shape!.......2007-05-13
This is a great book for anyone wanting to get their abs in shape. Different exercises are described in detail with proper technique and form. There are also different workouts routines depending on where you want to be and if you are a beginner or someone who has been exercising regularly.
Exercises vary and are not limited to the standard crunches and sit-ups. Your core is worked to give you a complete workout of your entire abdominal area.
I highly recommend this book along with "the Body Sculpting Bible for Women" for any woman who wishes to get her body in shape.

Book Description
An A-Z guide to the "burning river in a glass," complete with photographs, recipes, and stories.
Tequila is a national drink of great variety and complexity, inextricably entwined with the history and culture of Mexico. Smithsonian's Tequila is the first book in English to explore fully what has been called "that burning river in a small glass." Here is a wonderful guide to everything you need to know about tequila, from 21 background questions and answers, to an A-Z illustrated description of all the tequila brands from the most common to the rarest, to a collection of recipes, not only for cocktails but also for tequila shrimp and tequila leg of lamb. Accompanying this practical information are thought-provoking and entertaining articles on the history of tequila making, from the Aztecs through colonial times to the present; a look at tequila in the movies and in literature; poems, poetic evocations, and a short story, written especially for this volume, by Laura Esquivel, the acclaimed author of Like Water for Chocolate.
Tequila is richly illustrated on every page with photos of the art of tequila bottles and labels (themselves a Mexican craft), movie stills, contemporary and historical paintings, and portraits of the landscapes of tequila country in the state of Jalisco. 225 color photographs and illustrations.

There were a few enjoyable stories but it is definitely not worth buying. It seems like the authors didn't have enough material for a book but wrote one anyway. I was done with it in an hour.
very disappointing.......2005-07-28
I have bought the other chicken soup for animal lovers in this series and was very pleased with them, this one is another matter. The book is small, only a very few stories and I read the whole thing in about an hour. For anyone looking for a good animal book pass this one by.

Customer Reviews:
I was expecting MORE. I was expecting BETTER........2005-05-09
Hey, my first review! Here goes - I am not sure what I was expecting when I bought this book, but I was definitely expecting more than what I got.
As a coin collector, I've been buying coins for a few years, and I have maybe a dozen of the basic numismatic books. Such as The "Red Book", Lange's Guide to Lincoln Cents, Photograde, and a few others, plus I regularly read Coin World, and the monthly magazines. I am at the point now where I have pretty much collected almost every coin from 1850 to date (about 50 coins shy of a complete date and mintmark collection), so I have started looking at picking up some of the more common errors and varieties. I was primarily looking for a guidebook that would list just that -- as the title (and the website) implies.
Well, this book DOES list some of the top die varieties and error coins by denomination. However, the list is far from complete, and many of the more well-known varieties (such as those listed in price guides) are omitted completely. But that is not my main complaint against this book -- after all, you can't list EVERYTHING, and a publisher has to draw the line somehwere. Okay, I can live with that.
My biggest gripe is about the printing quality of the book. One of the primary purposes of this book is to help identify die varieties and errors. Some of the pictures are decent, but a majority of them are too muddy, too pixellated, too small, or just plain too damn useless. The quality of the pictures is very low -- they appear to be black and white 300-dpi scans, and the printing quality is no better than xerox-level copying, so some of the pixels are starting to break down on the page. I've been involved in publishing and printing myself, and this is just plain sloppy work. The printing quality is no better than VANITY PRESS LEVEL printing job. For a book where the quality of the pictures is all-important, the publisher did a very poor quality on the printing job itself. You would expect 1200-dpi or better for the job, and hopefully higher quality paper, and to use an offset press instead of xeroxing, especially for the price-per-page on the book. For several of the pictures, the contrast is too low to make out the relevant details (such as trying to see that D mintmark below the S). Many of the pictures are completely unnecessary -- such as including a picture of the coin inside a slab -- the coin itself being nothing more than a dark circle. What's the point in showing the slab? Is the author just showing off his collection?
The accompanying text is short, sometimes useful and sometimes lacking. For example, it may mention the variety is listed in Breen, but so what? It may say there are five varieties of this error, but fails to identify what these five varieties are. It may give a single "value", but does not give that value in relation to others. I was hoping for some expert information, and all I got was some short text slapped next to a hard-to-identify picture.
The layout of the book itself is basic and passable. Somewhat on the amateur side, and that does make it a bit difficult to read the book easily. For an example of what I consider a good layout that is easy to read, check out Lange's "Guide to Lincoln Cents". Also, the multiple self-serving ads sprinkled through the book for the Moneybucks website was a bit annoying, especially when it's not entirely clear when the book content ends and the ad begins. Somewhat unprofessional.
In the final analysis, I found this book lacking. I guess I should have listened to my inner self and grabbed the "Cherrypicker's Guide" instead. There's very little information in this book that can't be found elsewhere. I bought the book for about fifteen bucks, and consider it fifteen bucks essentially wasted. I generously give the book a "2 star" rating, because it does have some good pictures of varities that I can use to identify coins, but not too many. And also, this book does have POTENTIAL. This book needs some serious revisions and a good editor to tear it apart, it could use multiple contributors to provide more relevant content (text and pictures), and MOST OF ALL, it can use higher production values. Drop the vanity press and go with a REAL printer, guys. Hopefully in a year or two, there will be a second edition. Book Description
This classic and indispensable reference for shade gardening is now back in print. Long considered required reading for those with difficult low-light areas, it covers the basics literally from the ground up, leading the gardener through the creation of his or her own shady retreat. Part One concerns the art and science of a shade garden, from preparing the soil, to pruning, to considering different "shades of shade" (does your favorite bed lie in dappled shade or high shade?). Part Two, which details information on growing the plant, is neatly arranged in sections according to the type of plant. These descriptions are casual, to the point, and often humorous. The sago palm, for example, "will put you in touch with paleobotany." Selected photographs and line drawings both illustrate and inspire.
Customer Reviews:
Not Entirely Satisfying.......2007-04-16
There was some good advice in this book and some original descriptions which was nice. The author certainly has an intimate knowledge of many of the shade plants he describes. However, it does seem a little dated and the pictures are uninspiring. If the pictures were in color, and the information edited for current practices, it would have been much more satisfying.
The Complete Shade Gardener.......2007-01-05
This book was great because they have pictures that show as well describe the plants and tree's. My wife has low vision and this book was great for her. We recommend this book to all people who want to know what grows in the shade.
Great Content...But Low Use.......2006-10-29
When I ordered this book, I was expecting beautiful examples like the photo on the cover, but instead got an outdated black and white books, which is of little use to me when I'm in the middle of a project looking for inspiration. While the content on this book is excellent, and it is a great primer for beginning gardeners, it is not for the designer looking for quick ideas.
Worthwhile classic.......2006-03-16
The author spends the first part of the book discussing what to do to prepare a shady site for a garden and his informal tone and candid assessment of his own mistakes will encourage the most timid to venture into the darker regions of the garden. There are 8 pages of full color and scattered black and white photos throughout the book, so for those unfamiliar with the mentioned plants, another photo-heavy reference or two is a must. The black and white photos, however, are very useful to indicate foliage texture and form, which is often not noticeable in color pictures. Rather than using USDA hardiness zones, Schenk gives region codes to indicate the hardiness of plants. He includes trees, shrubs, groundcovers, vines, ferns, perennials, annuals, even edibles. The book was last updated in 1991 and the list of hybrids grows ever longer; still, this is a handy reference to consult before a nursery trip to see the latest and greatest. A helpful list of specialty nurseries, with notes on the specialty of each, is included, as are suggested plans for a shady retreat. A terrific book.
A Bible for Flower Gardeners Challenged by Shade.......2006-02-12
Thinking I needed full sun to grow any plants and flowers, I was prepared to cut down trees and clear land. But finding this book in the library stopped me in my tracks. I renewed it three times because I didn't want to give it back. Finally I came here for my own copy. There are incredibly beautiful flowers that grow in partial and full shade. I would've never known that without this excellent book.

Book Description
This project highlights Jesus' use of scripture within each Synoptic Gospel as an important component of each Gospel's narrative rhetoric. Using literary analysisparticularly composition criticism, narrative criticism, and comparative analysisthe main object of study is the explicit citation of Jesus, rather than any implied citation, allusion or echo. Concentration on the latter areas offers insight into the way scripture was understood by Christians and Jews in Second Temple Judaism, however, the study of explicit citations provides the basis upon which we assume other allusions may be heard by first century audiences. The study concludes that each Gospel offers its own distinctive portrayal of Jesus' use of scripture based on each one's narrative rhetoric.
