Book Description
"Kit O'Malley is a welcome addition to the list of female crime-fighters."-Val McDermid
Celia Robinson is paying PI Kit O'Malley big money to find out what Celia's philandering husband Geoffrey is up to with a blonde, a redhead, and entrepreneur Ian Dalkeith and his shady business cohorts.
Enduring a heat wave and fighting the inanimate objects that are out to get her are the hardest parts of Kit's assignment-until a body is found floating in the Robinsons' ornamental fish pond.
After the discovery of another body and a near miss with a homicidal driver, Kit realizes she's getting close to something-even if the truth seems to be that everyone has a secret.
Lindy Cameron lives outside Melbourne, Australia.

Compelling read........2007-09-02
Lindy Cameron hails from the beautiful Mornington Peninsula outside of Melbourne, Australia. She is a freelance editor and enjoys golf. BLOOD GUILT is her first Kit O'Malley mystery. BLEEDING HEARTS and THICKER THAN WATER follow. She has also published a novel entitled GOLDEN RELIC.
Kit O'Malley is an ex-cop who has taken on the cloak of a private eye. Her mother is a society maven whose school chum, Celia Robinson, hires Kit to tail her husband and catch him in a compromising position. Kit complies, follows the rotter, and catches him in the act. But her final meeting to finish the case instead turns into a murder investigation of Celia Robinson. Kit meets Celia's independent daughter and her friend, the prickly lawyer Alex Cazenove, and Kit falls head-over-heels, so to speak:
"Despite the volume, however, she could still hear the warning bells going off in her head. After all there was nothing as ridiculous as someone whose nerve endings were going completely gah-gah over a person who didn't particularly like that someone at all, at all. And there was also absolutely NO point in allowing herself to become interested in a person whose interests lay elsewhere. And Kit was NOT thinking about Alex's impending marriage. In fact the way Alex was watching over Quinn-correction, make that 'watching' full stop-Kit was beginning to wonder if Alex knew whether she was on the right path by intending to plight her troth to the divine Enzo."
Lindy Cameron takes the reader down what initially seems a straightforward path of murder and mayhem only to tweak the journey over and over. This tale is expertly told; passionately portrayed; and properly plotted to make for a rollicking romp through a sinister world of complete psychopaths. But Kit O'Malley is up to the task. She is full of courage and insecurity, and is a lovable character whom the reader can fully support. Kit's discovery of real love is touching and astonishing. Cameron's characters all stand out, although the bad guys all seem to jell together into a gooey abyss where they belong. BLOOD GUILT is an excellent introduction to the indomitable Kit O'Malley, and Cameron scores on her first shot with this compelling read.

A Real Mystery with a Sense of Humor.......2007-04-11
Blood Guilt is the first book of Kit O'Malley Mystery. Katherine (Kit) O'Malley, an ex-police official, was a private eye at day and a wannabe mystery writer at night. She took a job of following the husband of the wealthy owner of Orlando House Publishing, but she didn't expect such a tedious tailing of an unfaithful husband could lead to a conspiracy that ...
I think that's enough. You shouldn't read more than that to avoid the spoilers.
Even though the story was told in the third person, it's almost like that you look at the whole thing through Kit's eyes. The story doesn't give you a detailed description about how Kit looked but you can get quite a great deals about what kind of person Kit was. The sarcastic tone, which often showed up in the story telling, is just like one of Kit's characteristics.
Personally, I enjoyed very much in reading the romance plot like the one depicted in this book. It did make me ponder, just like solving a mystery.
For mystery, it's not like the classical mystery, but it was well plotted. You can feel that the author did do her homework and pay great attention to make the logic right.
Another good thing in this book is it has many interesting characters, main or minor, which you are able to distinguish their personalities. Good dialogs, too. The story isn't fast-pacing, considering a book of 386 pages covered barely over three weeks (and mostly at the last week). It's also kind of slow to go into the main part of the story. You need a little bit patience in the beginning. You'll find it's worth your time in the end (at least for a mystery/adventure reader).
Blood Guilt.......2006-07-18
Lindy Cameron's debut novel is wonderful. I enjoyed Kit O'Malley's character. She was down-to-earth with a sense of humor and integrity. This novel covered all the bases: romanace, mystery, intrigue.
I can't wait to read the next two she has coming out.
Excellent writing, terrific story, great characters........2006-04-22
Lindy Cameron is a terrific writer, as smart and funny as the charming, goofy, danger-prone heroine of her book, Kit O'Malley. Blood Guilt is a great read; I finished it in a single sitting because I couldn't put it down. I am very much looking forward to the sequel, which is due to be published in August.
Do yourself a favor: buy this book, pour yourself a cup of coffee, settle in a comfortable chair, and enjoy the ride.
Great weekend read........2006-02-24
The book was delightful. It had murder, mayhem, humor, and a very good romance thrown in. Plus, as another reviewer pointed out, it was not "dark". And you know the best part...it was not warrior princess and sidekick. I commend the publishers for putting out books with substance, both in story and length. It is refreshing to read a book with 300+ pages as opposed to the skimpy ones that B**** (rhymes with Ella) puts out. Thank you to the author for a great book. I look forward to your next.

"Eat sensibly and exercise," is Bob Greene's message, and in a friendly and personal style, he shows you how. Greene, an exercise physiologist and Oprah Winfrey's trainer, focuses on diet with a wealth of sound information and helpful strategies. Greene starts with a cutting overview of destructive diets, including those popular today. Then, after reviewing exercise essentials, he presents a refreshingly sensible plan for nutritious, healthy eating, with tools for keeping intake moderate. One key is eating breakfast, which boosts metabolism and helps you eat less all day. Another is distributing your calories over the course of the day rather than eating a lot at any one meal. You won't get bored with Greene's 85 enticing recipes, including Scrambled Egg Whites with Spinach and Orange, Breakfast Fried Rice, Gingered Butternut Squash Soup, Fish Chowder, Portabella Mushroom Burgers, Pan-Seared Fillet of Tilapia with Mango Tomato Salsa and Lentil Pancake, and Chocolate Almond Angel Food Cake. Greene's other books in the Make the Connection (with Winfrey) and Get with the Program series helped millions start a fitness program. This one will help people concerned with weight loss and health take their next steps towards a nutritious, moderate-calorie, lifetime eating plan. --Joan Price

Mr. Greene's philosophies to my routine. Unlike so many of the other books on diet and nutrition, Greene takes into account how difficult it can be to eat healthy and still live in the REAL world.
I have taken his advice and changed my diet and (with exercise)already lost 15 lbs. (in a month)
Although I enjoy hearing and reading Bob Greene's books,.......2006-12-23
there was nothing new in this one. Most of the pertinent information has already been heard on "Oprah" or in his previous material.
Though the recipes sounded delightful, they were not practical or convenient. Several ingredients would require many stops at specialty stores.
There are 80 recipes in this book, I've tried 17 of them and all have been quite impressive!.......2006-12-23
However if what motivates you to lose weight is sitting down before a table of gourmet food that is easy to prepare with no-nonsense ingredients, this book will keep you on track. Friends and family alike will NOT have the feeling that they are being served "diet food" In fact, the author points out how and why most diets are failures.

What's the neatest way to pit an avocado? How do you grate mozzarella without mess? How best to release flavor from dried herbs? Cook's Illustrated magazine's 365 Quick Tips has definitive answers to these and many more kitchen quandaries. Containing top tips, shortcuts, and time-, money-, and sanity-saving advice from the magazine, the book is an immediately useful data trove. (Answers to the above, in order: lodge a knife in the avocado pit, twist and remove the seed; coat the grater with nonstick cooking spray before applying the cheese; place the herbs in a sieve over a small bowl and push them through with your fingers.) Cooks wanting to be faster, better, and cannier kitchen operators should find the book a true boon.
Proceeding alphabetically from anchovies (mincing) to zucchini (shredding), 365 Quick Tips tackles an impressive array of culinary queries, all accompanied by precise how-to illustrations--more than 600 in all. Other examples of quick tips? Use a paring knife to sharpen a swivel vegetable peeler. If you want lumpless polenta, stir it with an immersion blender. Fluff cooked rice by covering it with an absorbent towel, putting the lid back on, and allowing it to steam for 10 minutes. Voilà! Grain-by-grain splendor. Readers will not only enjoy poring over the book, they'll use it often. --Arthur Boehm

Hey, It Works!.......2003-08-29
If there is a reward for truth in advertising, this book would win. The bi-monthly magazine Cooks Illustrated has a column it calls "Quick Tips"; it is a collection of handy tips and tricks in the kitchen, many of which will make your life easier. This book is a well chosen collection of 365 of these tips.
Every tip has an illustration, even those that do not really need one. For those (like me) who do not subscribe to this magazine regularly, a collection of these valuable tips is nice to have. Even those who do subscribe will find it useful, as all the tips are alphabetized. The kitchen jobs that are the most troublesome, such as pies and cakes, each yield several tips.
On the other hand, this is a rather randow collection of tips. There is no effort to cover the most troublesome kitchen problems, or to be comprenhensive.
Handy book.......2003-02-18
I received this book as a Christmas present and have really enjoyed it. It is a neat addition to any kitchen, as it offers some wonderful tips. I don't know how often I use this book, but if I remember to consult it, I generally find something that helps out while I'm cooking.
What a great little book!.......2002-10-07
The day I got this book, my husband was making bread and wanted to know how to soften butter. I immediately grabbed this book, which answered our questions.
This book has tons of great information and creative ideas (Melt chocolate on your coffee burner! Use a condiment shaker filled with flour to lightly flour work surfaces! Wedge a wine cork below the handle of a lid so you can have something to grab onto without burning your hand!) Very useful and practical information.
Great resource for beginners.......2002-03-27
Lots of useful tips, with illustrations.
A must have for any cook..........2001-12-06
I have had this book for about a year and I refer to it constantly! Alot of the tips a seasoned cook will probably already know, but I have learned a ton of great new ideas...

Strange ingredients.......2002-12-15
Beware of buying cookbooks, sight unseen, like I did with "365 Quick Recipes." In my experience these culinary manuals usually turn out to be British and require really weird ingredients like whey and pork liver and quark (charmed quarks? strange quarks? naked quarks? A teaspoon of quark star, which would weigh billions of tons?)
This particular cookbook was printed in Slovenia, but the recipes are very UK. It contains instructions for delicacies such as "White Roux soup (flour soup)," "Zander fillet with rice, plums and fennel," "Kohlrabi Gratin with Wild Garlic sauce," "Strawberry Quark," and "Milk Noodles." The latter recipe calls for spaghetti, milk, butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar. I like all of the ingredients separately, but...Here's another good one: "Apple Vinegar Drink": 2 TBL apple vinegar, 1 TBL buckthorn juice, 1 tsp honey, 1 litre mineral water. Mix and serve chilled.
Does anyone know where I can hunt up some wild garlic? Mine's pretty tame.
Do Zanders eat quarks? Do they drink buckthorn juice?
"365 Quick Recipes" looks like an interesting cookbook, but I might have to send away to Planet Vulcan for some of the ingredients.

Cat Book
ASIN: 0684842882 |

Scarlett Saves Her Family is the amazing true story of the New York cat who miraculously rescued her five kittens from a raging fire. It was a freezing March night when firemen were called to a blaze at an abandoned garage in Brooklyn. Pitiful meows alerted the firemen to five tiny kittens that had been carried from the fire by their badly burned mother cat, who would not rest until every kitten was safe.
The 10 heartwarming chapters capture the amazing frenzy that Scarlett and her kittens generated. From the vets at the North Shore Animal Clinic where the felines were treated to Oprah Winfrey, thousands followed the story with baited breath. This wonderful tribute to animal bravery is told from the perspective of rescuers, vets, and the lucky new owners of the feline brood. The gorgeous photographs speak a thousand words; the severly burned Scarlett is barely recognizable as a cat, but later photographs reveal a healthy, happy animal. The kittens grow from tiny burned bundles into beautiful, fat cats. Scarlett Saves Her Family is an adorable book.
Customer Reviews:
Unforgettable story of love and courage!.......2001-05-11
When I first learned of this true life account of a very brave little mother cat, I was moved to tears. There is no creature on the planet, human or animal, who does not fear fire. Scarlet put her life at great risk, again and again, to save her five kittens. How great is a mother's love?
Scarlet may be just a cat to some, but to me she personifies everything a mother should be! If you care about animals, you can't help but love Scarlet. You will be deeply touched by the many caring humans who became intertwined in her little life. From the truly compassionate firefighter, David Gianelli, to the woman who eventually adopted Scarlet, you'll pleasantly savor and revel in the goodness of mankind.
This book should be recommended reading in our public schools because it lovingly teaches children compassion and virtues. Though the photos of a severely burned Scarlet are graphic, they poignantly illustrate the depth of her devotion and willingness to suffer pain in order to save the lives of her babies.
I loved this book. I love knowing that Scarlet is forever loved and cherished and has left a indelible memory in the hearts of caring people everywhere.
Scarlett Saves Her Family.......2001-04-11
If this book doesn't lift your spirits and make you feel like there are still compassionate people in this world then nothing will. It is a "can't miss" book for cat lovers -- or for anybody who has a heart. It's the tale of the power of a mother cat's love in saving her family of newborn kittens, and of the people who worked so hard to help them recover. It is an inspiring story to share.
Scarlett!!.......2001-01-01
When I found out the book was out I just had to get it! Reading about her and seeing the pictures of how she was so hurt made me realize was a blessed cat she was. She went through hell to save her family. If this book does not make you both cry and feel great joy, then I wonder about you. Read this book, have your children read this book, you will love it!
Love and compassion pour from the pages..........1998-05-07
Scarlett was once a nameless, unknown, unloved alley cat -- until a fire, set to the abandoned building that was "home" to her and her five month-old kittens, drove Scarlett to the act of bravery that has touched human hearts worldwide. Five times, Scarlett nosed through the smoke and flames to rescue her babies. Back and forth, carrying her infants to the slushy, winter-drenched street. Scarlett herself suffered massive burns; her eyes were swollen shut and much of her fur was singed away.
She was found in this state by fireman David Giannelli, who tenderly, urgently rescued Scarlett and her brood. From there, a human flood of care, compassion, love, and hope helped the feline family to heal from the trauma...and all (excepting one kitten, who died from a later viral infection) are now happy homebodies who I'm sure have entirely taken over the lives and hearts of their humans!
This story illustrates the very best of human and animal compassion. What better, irrefutable evidence for the intelligence, love, and courage of other species! Take it home and prepare to cry your heart out -- I did!
I cried when I read the saga of Scarlett........1998-05-01
Hey, who says New Yorkers have no heart? Scarlett
was our heroine for days!! I could understand cat
nuts like myself but Everyone was caught up in this feline desplay of valor, devotion and what it
means to be a mother. I loved it.

Customer Reviews:
Great Read!.......2006-08-13
I am thoroughly enjoying reading this book, and I know it will be invaluable to me as a continuing reference source.
Beautiful photos, useful text...........2006-01-22
Now this is a nice book. FINE GARDENING DESIGN GUIDES are nifty because the editors have compiled several of the better articles (sans advertisements) about container gardening found in back issues of FG into "creative ideas from America's best gardeners." GARDENING IN CONTAINERS, for example, includes several pieces by Sydney Eddison, who just published a book on container gardening, that I enjoyed very much, in which her ideas from her various articles were combined (along with many of the same photos), thus, for me at least, these articles are complementary if not redundant. Okay, it never hurts to read something more than once, and the book saves me going through all those back issues of FG, which is why I bought it to begin with, but GARDENING IN CONTAINERS also reminds me of other points of view.
As advertised, the book includes many creative ideas, some of which I noted in passing when I read the original article in my FG magazines, thinking to myself "I'll get back to that." What I would like to get back to is building planting boxes, making willow trellises, and installing a small water garden in a continer (Better Homes and Gardens CONTINER GARDEN has many more ideas for this type of garden). Ideas for all three are included along with photos of topiary and penthouse roof gardens if you are so inclined.
Some but not all of the projects in this book are a bit pricey, but most can be adapted to the smaller purse. They can definitely be used in the smaller spaces.

Book Description
This volume dwells on the process of the formation of the modern national identity among the Crimean Tatars during the first decades of this century. One of the basic postulates of this study is that the national movements played a crucial and definitive role in this process. Therefore, the formation of national identity among the Crimean Tatars is traced and analyzed in the course of the successive national movements of the period. Although the main focus of the study is on the period between 1905-1916, the subject-matter is complemented by a general portrayal of Crimean Tatar society during the first century of Russian rule over the Crimea and an analytical account of the two formative decades of Ismail Bey GaspKralK's reforms prior to 1905. The study devotes meticulous care in placing the subject within the context of the parallel processes of other Turkic and/or Muslim peoples.

Excellent work.......2000-03-28
This academic work by Mr. Hakan Kirimli sheds light to one of the most important periods in Crimean Tatar history. I wish the pricing was better.

Book Description
Read the Prose. Study the illustrations. And apply what you have learned to design your own pages. It's easy with Basics of Design; Typography and Layout for Beginners! This heavily illustrated, compact guide is ideal for readers with no graphic design or art education background who need to create first-rate visual page designs. Entrepreneurs challenged with designing their own business cards, and administrative assistants suddenly put in charge of producing newsletters and fax cover pages, are just two examples of readers who benefit from the information in this primer. Its uniquely conversational tone - combined with numerous "before" and "after" illustrations- provides everything needed to design pages as effective as those of professional designers. Part One introduces readers to important design principles, as well as how to use color and images to add impact to designs. Part Two concentrates on the basics of typography. Part Three features a number of common design projects of the variety frequently assigned to non-designers (.., company business cards, fax cover letters, graphical and statistical reports, and more). To further aid readers, each project is accompanied by a brief listing of some of the special considerations involved in that type of visual page design. The final chapter of the book lists useful design books and resources for readers interested in advancing their typography and layout skills.

Using Book for Graphic Design begin class.......2006-02-23
There are just enough illustrations. The chapters are setup in a way to support teaching a begining Graphic Design class. Exercises, a mini quiz and examples are built into each chapter-subject of good basic design.
Book lays flat when going through the pages and the binding should hold up through many page turning days.
A complete disappointment.......2005-10-25
The book contaings a whole lot of reading but very little illustration. I do not understand how the author anticipated to convey design, layout and typography by writing about it only. A book like this must be full of illustration. To write about design without illustrating them is an oxymoron. I would definitely not recommend this book for beginners.
Excellent Primer on Design.......2005-09-28
This book takes you through the basics of the page design process, focusing in each chapter on one of a number of themes such as contrast, repetition and alignment (and several others). I'm not an expert but have designed pages off and on for some years and this book was a breath of fresh and inspirational air. It is clear, useful, has loads of examples and, above all, it had an instant impact on my page designs from CV to web page to software interface to data sheet. Highly recommended. As comparison, I bought another book at the same time on typography, didn't learn a thing about design, and set it aside having suffered pages of historical theory.
The perfect starting point........2004-09-13
There is not much mistaking the purpose of this book judging from the title. It is for beginners, and it delivers admirably. Graham takes the reader step by step and in a very systematic way through the basic tenets of graphic design. Each chapter deals with a specific aspect of design and how the reader can use it to communicate more effectively. Graham gives plenty of examples of what to do as well as what not to do and the text is well illustrated, though it could have used more examples in color. That is a small criticism though and one that does not really detract from the book in any way. The beginning designer will come away from this book with a firm foundation in design and with skills that they will utilize for the rest of their career. If you are looking to learn about graphic design then this book is the perfect starting point.
Coherent and Accessible.......2004-02-19
A friend of mine recommended this book as a solid introduction to graphic design. The author, Lisa Graham, covers the principles of design effectively and even throws in some unexpectedly funny explanations that really make the point. For example, the beginning of the Balance chapter is hilarious and made me realize that a page really can make a person feel weird, if it isn't designed using the design principles. Once I read that balance chapter, I realized that many of her illustrations also were surprisingly humerous, and reveals what must be a delightful sense of humor.
If you buy this book, keep in mind that the humor is used to support the points Graham makes, and is not the sole focus of the book. This is after all a design book and makes some serious and informative points.
Perhaps what is most effective about this book is the thorough explanations she gives on why a design works and why it doesn't work. This is a refreshing change from many other introductory design books that I looked at where the primary focus of the text seemed to be to show off pretty pictures. Pretty pictures are nice, but WHY do the designs work? WHY don't they work. Basics of Design tells you why, and in such a wonderfully understandable way that you remember, and easily apply what Graham teaches.
Good job Lisa. When are you going to write more books on graphic design? I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more of your work!

Solid basics but many missed opportunities.......2007-08-25
I bought this book with high expectations, which were largely met with a few unfortunate caveats.
First, the good. I really enjoyed the first chapter, which deals with using type. The intricacies of fonts, point sizes,x-height, serif fonts, etc. are clearly presented and enjoyable to read, with good examples.
for a book that claims to be, "drawn from the field of graphic design and cognitive psychology." (p x.), I was disappointed in the lack of documentation for sources. In fact, the book does often reference principles of design and psychology, I just don't know where they come from or why I should believe them. If there is a future edition, I hope they strike a happy medium, not delving into theoretical discourse, but allowing the reader to know where he or she could go to learn more.
A small, but significant, problem throughout the book is that all the text in the examples is gibberish. Why not use standard Lorem Ipsum type to fill-in the lines? I found reading through the examples to be very distracting, something I have not found with other design books that do use Lorem Ipsum type.
Another missed opportunity/pet peeve is that the book fails to take itself into account. none of the examples reference the actual design of the book that you are reading (for instance, pointing out why a certain font or page layout is being used in this book). This book feels a bit as though it were a rush job, or perhaps the reason is because the book designer is not the author. Again, a future version could include references to the actual book, which overall looks quite nice.
This book does convey the basics, which would be very useful for a person who just wants to produce nicer looking electronic documents. Others, who have more experience with such writers as Edward Tufte or Robin Williams will likely find this book contains information, but is a sub-par experience.
