"If this thriller was any more hard-boiled, you'd be able to paint a face on it and roll it down the hill . . . Noir at its grungiest"-The Good Book Guide
Cooper had done his time in prison. Now on the outside, he'd set up a legitimate business with Doc, who he'd met inside. They called themselves "Righteous Repo," and they even had an accountant. The repo firm did good business, but it wasn't anywhere near as exhilarating as the bank jobs they did on the side.
Ken Bruen was born in Ireland in 1951. The author of 16 novels, including The Guards and The Dramatist in the Jack Taylor series, he now lives in Galway City with his wife and daughter. The new Jack Taylor novel, The Magdalene Martyrs, is published by St. Martin's Press.

An impressively scoped, consistently good read........2000-05-15
The readership of fantasy has been said to be predominantly feminine (as opposed to the predominantly masculine readership of science fiction), so it is perhaps not much of a surprise that one of the best collections of fantasy writing would be one dedicated solely to the work of women authors. If one were looking for non-patriachal, original, stimulating fantasy generally uncluttered by the cliches of the genre one could do worse than one of the most important collections to come out of the field in the last few decades. The range of the book, which also traverses science-fictionesque territory, is impressive, from straightforward space opera (The Ship Who Sang, by Anne McCaffrey; the short story that birthed the famous novel of the same name), to revisionist visions of classic fairy tales (Red as Blood; a revisionist Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story with a distinctly Stokerian--re: Vampiric--twist). Classy packaging and a beautiful cover illustation (Baby Giant) complete a pleasant reading experience. The Penguin Book of Modern Fantasy by Women is a welcome mainstay on the bookshelf of essential science-fiction and fantasy writing.
Book Description
The MemoryMinder is an easy-to-use, "checklist-format" health diary. It provides an organized and accurate way to track vitamins, herbs, medications, diet, exercise, blood pressure, symptoms, progress, and all the other factors that make up o ne's health picture.
The MemoryMinder has 224 pages, an attractive leatherette cover, spiral binding, and measures 8.5 x 6 inches. The "heart" of the journal consists of repeated daily pages. (Each day is a two- page spread.) There are also two human figure outlines (front an d back) for each day. This makes it easy to note pain location and intensity as well as skin changes or conditions.
The MemoryMinder does not necessarily need to be used every day. However, when a symptom appears or changes, or a new medication or vitamin is started or stopped, or a reaction of any kind is experienced, etc., it is a good idea to enter that information in the journal.
There are additional pages in the back of the MemoryMinder for keeping track of other health-related data such as medical test results, health provider and insurance information, expenses, and notes & questions. Last but not least, a vinyl pocket-page is included for storing notes, prescription slips, appointment cards, etc.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent health tool!.......2007-08-11
This is my second volume of this book. I filled up the first one already! My doctor finds this book extremely helpful in troubleshooting symptoms and it only takes a second to fill out every night, unlike keeping a diary which takes too long for my tastes.
THE BEST Journal for tracking health and symptoms!.......2007-08-02
I have had migraines for over 10 years that have turned chronic in the last 4-5 years. My doctors suggested that I keep a journal of symptoms, meds, pain level, what I ate, and anything else that I thought that could be triggering the M's. This is a very detailed, while being compact for as much info that needs to be put down in some medical conditions. I purchased this under the recommendation of fellow migraneur's and have been using it for over a year. I just purchased 4 more so I will be well stocked. Thank you Frances E. Wilkins for doing such a fine job of putting this together and thank you MemoryMinder Journals, Inc for publishing this for us! :)
Memory Minder, Personal Health Journal.......2007-05-21
A good little diary & symptom log if you need to keep taps on your medical progress.
Great health journal.......2007-04-15
I looked at a few of the health/wellness diaries before purchasing this one. I'm happy with the purchase. With the "Look Inside" feature you see exactly what the journal pages look like before making the purchase. That was the deciding factor for me purchasing it. Recording in a journal like this can help you find out how the weather, certain foods, exercise, stress, etc. affect how you feel, especially if you have a known condition where you have good days and bad days.
The only negative I see is that it has only 95 journal entry pages, so you can use it for about 3 months or can stretch it a little if you use it every other day or so.
Great product for the use.......2007-03-11
I have fibromyalgia and this book helps me keep track of my days and shows me what I do that brings me up and down. Great way to keep track if you are a Fibro person.
Book Description
Over the past few centuries, the influences of Portuguese, Spanish, and French cuisines have created an entirely new cuisine across the African continent, while African influences have simultaneously traveled across the Atlantic to countries such as Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica, and the United States. Written by bon vivant and storyteller Dorinda Hafner, A TASTE OF AFRICA is a tantalizing introduction to some of the most exciting, dynamic food in the world. In over 100 traditional and modern recipes from ten countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and South America, Dorinda lovingly shows readers how to prepare a wide range of African delights, such as the Moroccan classic Tagine of Lamb with Pumpkins, Vegetables, and Fruit and Fried Plantains. This guide to wholesome and tasty cooking the African way, illustrated with maps and enlivened folk tales and history, will find a valued place in kitchens everywhere.
Customer Reviews:
Pan-African delight .......2006-07-17
Dorinda Hafner, a Ghana-born cook, is a witty, urbane presence in this pan-African collection of recipes, handily arranged by country rather than food type or course (you can use the index for listings the in the latter fashion.) Dorinda is one of those cookbook authors who is well-traveled, with many friends from many different national and ethnic origins, friends upon whom she calls for recipes and to whom she gives credit.
Each recipe is prefaced with background info on the country, the origins of a dish, regional variations, etc. Some of the information she includes is clearly anecdotal and perhaps a little archaic--local creation myths, for example--but they add to the overall "flavor" of the book, provided you don't assume they represent the views of all peoples of a specific country.
African Countries included (each gets its own chapter with several recipes): Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Mali, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe,
Non-African (own chapter, as well): Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cuba, Louisiana (USA).
What Dorinder is good at is showcasing the diversity of Africa's peoples, cuisines, religions, and cultural traditions. She makes a few overly broad distinctions--e.g. "Africans south of the Sahara do not like fruits mixed with savory dishes;"--but she also provides from useful connections, noting that the African-indigenous okra vegetable is popular in every region of Africa and throughout West African-influenced Louisiana (U.S.A.) and the Caribbean.
The recipes are simple and most of them are extremely filling/satisfying, combining in one dish meat, chicken, or fish with starch (plantain, sweet potato, couscous), greens (spinach, collards), or other vegetables (pumpkin, okra).
Note: there are no pictures in this book, only maps of each country at the beginning of country chapters.
The book is well worth the price for the recipes, many of which you will make over and over and will learn to vary based on your own tastes and creative urges.
Recommended.

Appetizing and Colorful African Cookbook,.......2002-01-31
Dorinda Hafner of Ghana has authored cookbooks and is featured in a television series about African and African-inspired cuisine. "A Taste of Africa: With over 100 Traditional African Recipes Adapted for the Modern Cook" is a very good introduction to African food for anyone who knows kitchen basics. The recipes are mostly easy and quick, and are made with readily available ingredients. Each recipe has a short introductory text. Recipes are arranged by country; this book contains recipes from each of ten African countries: Ghana; Ivory Coast; Mali; Morocco; Egypt; Ethiopia; Kenya; Tanzania; Zimbabwe; and Nigeria. African-based recipes from five other countries and one city are also included: Brazil; Trinidad and Tabago; Martinique and Guadeloupe; Jamaica; Cuba; and New Orleans. Thoughout the book are boxes containing short features on African history, legends, foodstuffs. A short glossary and bibliography are included. Very well illustrated with photographs of the prepared dishes.
African cooking made easy!.......2001-10-14
Dorinda Hafner, the engaging host from the PBS cooking shows, has written a companion book. Arranged by country, it has African diaspora recipes from the continent, the Caribbean and the Americas. The recipes are simple and you don't have to be a gourmet chef to cook them. It's a great introduction to the variety and richness of African cooking.
great recipies.......2000-06-24
I was in Africa recently and then I saw this book and I had to buy it! I made sudza, the staple in Zimbabwe, and it tasted like it did in Zimbabwe. There are some other really good recipies in the book too but i think sudza, made right is the best. I would definatly recomend buying the book and giving it a try!
Customer Reviews:
Good buy.......2007-05-30
Very informative. It helps you understand the breed a lot better. However, I felt that some of her training techniques were unrealistic in the common household.
Bad Book.......2005-12-10
I agree with others. This Author must never have owned a doxie. Mine never lets me out of his site. He curls up in my lap all the time, sleeps with me, cries and howls if he can't find me. Had no trouble house training him once I put in a pet door except when it's really cold or raining he wants me to go out with him. He is stubborn, very protective and chews but at 10 mos. he's still learning and so am I. He is the best companion I've had since my childhood pet. I just hope I go before he does. Onyx has really helped with the loss of my oldest son (age 19) I have another teenager but Onyx has been like having a new baby. This Author was way off base. Doxies are Wonderful!
Worthless and misleading book.......2004-04-09
I had Mini long-haired Dachshunds all my life and my new little puppy is even more stubborn than the others!! I bought this book to help me braking her bad bathroom habits which comes from her very dominant personality otherwise she's just so sweet and affectionate.
I agree with the other reviews, this book was written for dogs in general NOT for the very particular personality traits of the Dachshund!! I assume that the author never owned a Doxie and probably only encountered a few, that is why she assume they are not cuddly as Doxies can be reserved with new people but give them a few encounters and they will be all over you.
All my Doxies are EXTREMELY affectionate like no other dogs really. I'm writing this with two on my lap right now! I can't even go to the bathroom on my own without the Doxies wanting to be with me at any cost!! They are little bundle of love.
If you want more info on Dachshunds you should get Dachshunds for Dummies by: Eve Adamson instead.
Don't buy this book.......2004-02-28
I read through this book at a Half Price Book Store. It was fast reading and not informative enough on training dachshunds. Also, my dachshund is definitely a lap dog and a cuddler. Don't waste your money on this one.
Loads of Useless General Information.......2004-01-21
I found this book to be very basic on Dog Training and not at all truthfull about Dachshunds. For example, in the book the author basically writes 'If you don't have time for one dachshund you should consider getting two.' I know from personal experience that two dogs are twice as much work. This book also reports that dachshund are not a dog you should get if you want a cuddly dog. WRONG again, every dachshund I have come across has been nothing but a snuggly cuddler, which is one reason why I chose this breed. This book is useless!!

Everything you need in an autograph book!.......1999-08-11
This book tells you everything you need to know on autographs. A must buy
A CLASSIC IN NEED OF AN UPDATE.......1999-01-09
Baker's book is the definitive work in the growing baseball autograph hobby.
It's too bad his publisher has not commissioned an update. The book is nearly ten years old and as such it's now about 25 players short and the autograph values are now just wishful thinking. Babe Ruth signatures for $495 -- I'll take a dozen!
Regardless of its age spots, if you are considering entering the hazardous world of baseball autograph collecting this book will be your core reference.
The most examples of baseball autographs in one place.......1998-12-26
Mr Baker has written the best book on baseball autographs. The book is profusely illustrated with examples of hall of fame and famous baseball players' signatures. The author is especially sensitive to aging characteristics and changes in style.
Most thorough work of its kind.......1998-12-19
This is the best book of its kind with many samples. Very knowledgable about all aspects of the subject, especially aging characteristics of signers. Would definitely purchase the next edition when it comes out.
A great reference for the collector of HOF autographs!.......1998-11-01
The book contains examples of most Hall of Fame baseball players autographs. As much as has been made about fraud in the hobby, it is an extremely helpful tool to research and compare before purchasing or trading for a signature!

Customer Reviews:
Great book for novices and experts alike..........2007-05-13
I bought this book for my son. He recently got married and he and his wife are now the proud owners of a new home in the area. Although he thought he knew how to maintain a yard, he quickly realized he didn't have a clue. He knew his lawn needed to be mowed, that the grass needed to be fed and watered, and that his wife wanted some flowers, shrubs and trees planted, but that was just about it. What he needed was an easy, step-by-step book explaining not only what needed to be done but when it needed to be accomplished as well...and this book says it all. He now knows what he needs to do to have a beautiful lawn and garden, what items should be done each month, what plants work best in our area, and how to go about doing it all.
Maintaining a yard can be an overwhelming experience for us all, but when the process is explained in detail month-by-month, as it is in Dale Groom's book, it's much easier to comprehend.
Month-by-month Gardening in Texas.......2005-09-18
The book was in new condition. Very fast shipping. Would recomend to anybody.
A Wonderful Guide - Especially for We Compulsives.......2005-08-05
As a true gardening moron, this book gives me hope that I can successfully grow plants without taking medication to assuage my anxiety. I like to know how, when and why and Groom's book covers all those bases. Divided into sections on annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, etc., each section takes you from January to December telling you what to do each month. For me, this takes an overwhelming task - How to Garden - and breaks it into managable, understandable tasks.
Makes FIguring out when....easy!.......2003-08-18
You might need to know your yard needs Nitrogen...but when is the best time to add the fertilizer?
How often should I trim my roses?
When is the best time to plant shrubs?
In categories including bulbs, roses, shrubs, trees and yards, you will learn the best time to do the various tasks of maintaining a beautiful yard and garden. For those of us in Texas (or similar zones) it's an essential guide that deals with our warm winters and hot summers.
I love it! Very helpful information that I refer to regularly to know what needs to be done 'this month'.
Not designed to be a colorful rendition on plants, if you're looking for a picture-book, this is not for you. But it's well organized and easy to read or browse. There are lists of plants that do well in our area, with some warnings of plants that don't do well, say, in the panhandle, where the climate is different.
Unless you're a master gardener, or even if you are, this would be a beneficial guide.
Perfect!.......2003-03-13
By now even I, a Philadelphia gardener who visits Houston every 6 weeks or so, know that Dale Groom is a genius--Texas style. In "Month-by-Month Gardening in Texas," he and his equally wonderful cowriter, Dan Gill, provide a treasure trove of information for everything from roses to houseplants in the easiest-to-use format I've ever encountered.
You want to know what you need to do in March? Turn to the large, easy-to-read, illustrated (but not too much) calendar-type March pages. You'll find out how much water your houseplants need, if and when you need to prune your bushes, if it is too early or too late to plant your annuals, and so forth. The at-a-glance style of the book provides quick and easy answers that anyone can understand.
Very serious gardeners, who are interested in the details of propogation and grafting, for instance, will not find the depth of information they need in this book. This is exactly what it says it is: a month-to-month guide. This was a gift to me from a near-and-dear Texan, and I cherish it. You will too.

1001 Things Everyone Should Know About African American History

Excellent...a tad biased-sounding in certain parts, though.......2007-04-05
This is a wonderful book about many influential African-Americans throughout history, such as Malcolm X and Oprah. The profiles are well-written and informative, and the book's design is simple, beautiful, and attractive. However, certain sentences sound a bit biased, and certain sections often sound like editorials rather than biographies.
But, all problems aside, an extremely informative and expertly written book. I recommend it.
