Book Description
A decomposing body...a severed head in a closet...a macabre meeting with “Mother”—mystery writer Lorinda Lucas tosses yet another paperback in the trash, appalled at the gruesome direction of today’s crime fiction. She’s even more disturbed at the half-starved state of Roscoe, the cat next door. Before Lorinda left for her latest book tour, Roscoe was as plump and pampered as her own two felines, Had-I and But-Known. It only takes a modicum of sleuthing to find out that in Lorinda’s absence Roscoe’s owner, Macho Magee, has acquired a new girlfriend—a harridan who has put the gentle Macho and his pet on a strict diet. And that’s only the first disturbing news in Brimful Coffers, the once-quiet village that now includes a writer’s colony. Lorinda soon discovers that a hit-and-run has ended a child’s life, professional jealousy has taken a deadly twist, and murder is just around the catty-corner...
Customer Reviews:
Mystery's Afoot in Catty Cozy.......2007-01-19
Marian Babson returns us once more to the delightful village of Brimful Coffers, a colony for mystery writers, first introduced in CANAPES FOR THE KITTIES. However, it is not necessary to have read the first book to thoroughly enjoy this one.
With a playful swipe at gory pulp fiction, chick lit, and porno-plagued romance novels, Babson follows Lorinda Lucas and her fellow writers as they go about their daily routines in their charming English village. Not one hit-and-run murder, but two, shake up the peaceful atmosphere as egos collide and humor abounds. Through it all, the delightful antics of Had-I, But-Known, and Roscoe will please cat lovers and fans of cozy English mysteries. This endearing trio of felines, slaves to their tummies, makes the book worthwhile if only for their attitudes.
You won't find clever plot twists and may be a bit disappointed when you discover whodunit, but if you're looking for a light-hearted and amusing tale, this is the cat's pajamas.
Feline anorexia?.......2007-01-12
This sequel to Canapes for the Kitties, about life in the mystery writers' enclave of Brimful Coffers, is about average plot-wise, except for hilarious sendups of "modern" mystery genres and a seance that has to be read to be believed.
Cute mystery, but not very "Caty".......2005-12-28
A cute sequel to Canapes for the Kitties. These are cozy mysteries but not as "caty" as the "Cat Who" (Lilian Jackson Braun), Mrs. Murphy (Rita Mae Brown), Joe Grey (Shirley Rousseau Murphy), or even Midnight Louie (Carole Nelson Douglas) mysteries. But it is still a cute, quick read.
very entertaining.......2005-09-22
If you're a cat owner, and your cat(s) own your life, and you enjoy amusing, quirky cozies, you'll want to check out Marian Babson's "Please Do Feed the Cat." It may not be the mystery novel of the year, but it is charming, humorous and loads of fun to read.
Back home safely at Brimful Coffers (a little village that's also a writer's colony) from her American book tour, mystery writer Lorinda Lucas is shocked to discover that things are not as they should be in her quiet little neck of the woods. For starters, her neighbour Lancelot Dalrymple, who writes hard-boiled mysteries under the pen name "Macho Magee" has taken up with Cressie Adair, a writer of fluffy "chick lit." The thing is that Cressie is a harpy, and she has taken over Macho's life completely, down to putting both Lancelot and his chubby and lovable cat, Roscoe, on a severe diet. Further down the street, another denizen of the village is having trouble with her builders; and even more tragically, a little girl was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Brimful Coffers not too long ago. All in all, not quite the homecoming Lorinda had anticipated. More immediately though, both Lorinda and good friend, Freddie, are more concerned about prying Cressie away from Macho. Except that it's beginning to look as if it will take an act of murder to separate the two! Why is Macho putting up with Cressie and her evil ways? And why is the very cosmopolitan Cressie hiding out in a quiet little village like Brimful Coffers? Things get even more dramatic when two rival mystery writers descend on the village and seem only too ready to carry on their quarrel in full technicolour...
I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Please Do Feed the Cat." It may not possess many clever plot twists, nor was it an incredibly suspenseful read, but it definitely was a very enjoyable and humorous read. I found myself chuckling at (and identifying with) how the cats (Had-I, But-Known & Roscoe) had their humans trained; and I really enjoyed the humorously ironic manner at which Marian Babson portrayed some of the authors in this mystery novel. No, "Please Do Feed the Cat" may not the most riveting read, but it definitely was a very charming and entertaining one.
Cute amateur sleth novel.......2004-11-01
After a grueling book tour in the United States, Lorinda is thrilled to be back in her English home with her cats Had-I and But-Known in the village of Brimful Coffers. Mystery writers like Lorinda live in a neighborhood within the village, helping one another out and being there to listen to one another's troubles. After Lorinda sleeps off the jet lag she learns that a little girl was run over by a car while fellow mystery writer Gemma was there walking the dogs.
She also learns that fellow author Machu has a new girlfriend Cressie who is making everyone's life miserable especially Machu's cat who she has put on a diet. Authors Adele Desparta and Opal Duquette are both visiting friends in the neighborhood; they hate each other because they are both writing a series centering on the first Queen Elizabeth's friend Bess of Hardwick. When Opal is run over by a car in the same place the little girl died, everyone thinks Adele is the killer but Gemma is going to get hypnotized to see if she can remember anything about the accident, a move that puts all the writers in mortal jeopardy.
PLEASE FEED THE CAT will appeal to animal lovers and amateur sleuth fans who like their mysteries without blood and gore. The arias of the pets are adorable and they steal the show from their humans. The tone of the story is upbeat as the humans act out even more than their pets do. Marian Babson known for her frolicking stories writes a work where all the clues are part of the story leaving it to readers to put the investigation together. This is an engaging and charming mystery.

Customer Reviews:
The most original, sensual book I have ever read.......2005-05-04
I have never read any other book like Stalking Tender Prey, so there is really nothing I can compare it to. Truly original. There are only two downsides to this book, so I will start with those. It took me a long time to get through because it lost me in the beginning (the first 60 pages or so) and again at the end (the last 30). The rest more than made up for it. Completely sucked me in and left me panting for breath. The other semi-negative is that it doesn't really end, it just sets up for the next instalment. So really, it seems the story is just beginning. Now, the good: EVERYTHING else. The characters are engrossing on every level, very few are shallow or one-dimentional or simply good or bad. They feel so real and tangable. Even though their lives are something few of us can imagine, you can understand their feelings and reasonings because you get to know them so well and get inside their hearts and minds. Storm has the gift of words and description without a doubt. Everything was sensual, everything. It was also very sexual, and while very small amounts were explictly descriptive, it was the most arousing novel I have read. While, there are many scenes and themes revolving around homosexuality (some of the best I have read), it is by no-means simply a gay novel. It deals with sexuality on levels that the everyday person/writer shys away from. Storm manages to make every scene shocking yet comprehendable and honest. The story line goes all over the place, and at times scans centuries. Once you catch onto the overall flow of the story, it is easy to follow. I can not wait to read the second novel of this series, which is out of print, unfortunately, but I am sure it will be worth searching for. While not for the faint of heart or the easily offended, it is worth taking a chance on. Jump on for one intense, unparalled adventure!
One of Storm's classics..........2003-06-19
Well, JD, if you're a closet homophobe, this book is sure to rub you the wrong way, but that's no reason to give it one star. Storm has only written one weak book in her career, to my knowledge, and that WAS actually, in this series (Book #3 - Stealing Sacred Fire). Stalking, on the other hand, is one of her classics. I admit, the homosexual scenes are almost buffetingly strong, and extremely uncomfortable for those of us outside the lifestyle. But they are mind openeing. The closest comparison I can come to in this regard is Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel" trilogy, whose heroine, Phedre, is a sexual masochist and prostitute. When I read her first assignation I didn't know whether to cry, scream, or throw-up; but it definitely pushed my mental boundaries. So, I'm not going anywhere near a whip, or another man's, uh....pride; but I appreciate a book that pushes my buttons and keeps me thinking.
Finally, your most absurd claim was that she was trying to sound like Clive Barker. Storm does NOT try to sound like ANYONE else, that's why she's Storm. Storm is a goddess because she is so unrepentantly herself.
You shouldn't ruin a book's ratings just cause it rubbed you the wrong way.
WARNING: Contains strong scenes ..........2003-02-18
I have nothing against gay people and have a couple of gay friends, but still I do NOT want to know the intimite details of their ...life, which this book provides in abundence. It just goes on and on many times across many pages. If I had know this then I wouldn't have picked it up.
Also I found the writing to be below average. The book can't decide if it wants to be a fantasy/horror book or make a stand against male oppression. It's just too stupid when the female charactars all have "magical" female powers and everyone understands everything about everyone else, and therfore knows what everyone are doing and thinking all the time.
The authour tries so hard to be Clive Barker, but fails terribly.
It takes a one or two chapters..........2002-07-25
This book takes one or two chapters to get into, but once you do it is almost impossible to put down for any length of time. The novel delves into the possibilities of a fallen race of angels among us from a uniquely Pagan perspective. Angels, until this point in my life, always seemed silly to me, but not in this first book of a trilogy. The novel is just compelling reading. I highly recommend it.
Ah, the magic of 'What If'.......2002-06-10
My wife had read this series several years before we met, and recommended them to me. The ideas bibliography included one of my favorite books, 'The Orion Mystery', so I gave it a chance. The story is sexually gothic, magically bloody, and leaves you hungry for more at the end. Thankfully, this is only the first of the trilogy.

Kurt Brungardt was at the front end of the abdominal obsession. His Abs of Steel video was a bestseller, and the original Complete Book of Abs, published in 1993, was considered the bible of midsection exercises for trainers and fitness enthusiasts. The obsession has only grown since then, manifested by dubious infomercial products, a burgeoning fitness-magazine industry promising readers great abs with almost no investment of time and effort, and (perhaps because of the shortcomings of the first two phenomena) a boom in the demand for legitimate nutritionists and personal trainers. Even Brungardt himself came out with a 1998 book, 3-Minute Abs, to take advantage of the craze.
With all that going on, it seems hard to believe that there's anything new to say about abdominal exercise. Indeed, this revised version of The Complete Book of Abs doesn't really try. There is a new prebeginner midsection routine, which leads into the more advanced exercise regimens described in the original book, and a handful of new exercises. But other than that, the expanded sections are in nutrition (several new pages of recipes) and total-body fitness (new photos demonstrating exercises for body parts other than abs).
Still, the original package is a terrific deal: more than 100 exercises, numerous training routines, and lots of basic information about exercise and diet. Each abdominal exercise is rated for difficulty on a scale of 1 to 3 and how risky it is to the lower back. The routines are complete and thoughtfully compiled, and there's not a bit of advice in the entire book that isn't scientifically legitimate. That's why this book--in either edition--remains indispensable for those serious enough about fitness to need information that goes beyond the basics. --Lou Schuler END

Customer Reviews:
The Go-to book for Abs.......2007-09-07
Top-notch book. Filled with practical and useful information on everything to do with the abs.
I found it revealing that if you are just doing crunches you are wasting your time. The author explains how the abs are made up into 4 main muscle groups. To simplify - lower abs, upper abs, and 2x obliques. He then goes on to say that all these groups need to be worked to have great abs and also because working only 1 group can have negative effects. He then splits the exercises into 3 main groups: 1)Lower Abs 2)Obliques 3)Upper Abs. For each group he explains numerous exercises with excellent photos and practical information such as degree of difficulty and amount of danger to lower back. There is also a 4th group for combination exercises. There are so many exercises you will never run out. There are also sample workouts at different stages of experience. The diet section is nicely done too although a bit outdated (1992) in that it advocates high carb content without too much differentiation between types of carbs. That is only a minor negative though - this is the book if you want to firm your abs.
Great book.......2007-08-05
Husband loves this book. It has helped him very much. He has lost 25 pounds and has toned up. Looks younger too.
Ab Book.......2007-05-13
Absolutely incredible compilation of ab workouts, dieting tips, and general health advice. Has workouts for all fitness levels, and you can even jump right in and start working on one of the pre-planned programs. I would definitely recommend this for anyone serious about getting real results with their ab workouts. Results can be seen within 2 weeks of following their program, and they provide you with enough workouts for a long time.
An excellent book.......2006-09-26
This is a great book. It gives you all the information you might need to develop strong abs and core. It answers questions such as how often you should work your abs. But it also shows you around 100 exercises from which you can develop your own workouts. It also offers routines for you. It shows you how to do each exercise.
The routine section suggests how many exercises to do and how many reps and sets. No matter what your level, this book will work for you.
One thing I especially like is that it gives exercises that are safe for people with lower back problems. Each exercise lists whether or not it is safe for those with bad backs.
I can't think of anything that's been left out of the book and all of the information seems to be accurate.
I did one of the ab workouts for those with a bad back. My abs are in good condition and I can't seem to find a workout that gives me the pump or burn. Well, good news. This one did. If you do the workouts as prescribed and according to your own level of ab fitness, you'll be pleased and rewarded.
Amazing .......2006-08-02
This is the only book I use when I need to re-condition my abs. Why? It produces results.

I'm am thrilled to have bought for myself and others this cookbook. I love that all the recipes were tired and tested and only "the best of the best" were put into the cookbook. I have NEVER liked gingersnap cookies but sampled the ginger crip recipe and made them over thanksgiving where they were a HUGE hit. There are so many more great recipes i can't wait to try. The best of the best.......2004-12-17
I am a cookbook collector, bookcases full from places I have visited around the world, and this is the best. I have only owned the book a short period of time and already I have used it more often than anything else on my bookshelves! Everything has come out without a hitch and my family and guests have raved about the food. The book itself is sturdy and the recipes are easy to follow. This is a fabulous cookbook of cherished recipes, useful to EVERYONE not just the Jewish community.
Easy and Delicious Recipes.......2004-12-17
I have a zillion cookbooks on my shelf but for some reason this is the one book that I go back to time and again. The recipes are easy to follow and the food has been delicious! Many of my friends that don't keep kosher bought this book because of the numerous "tried and true" recipes. The rockfish cakes are out of this world and the Chocolate Bread Pudding is outrageous!

Absolutely wonderful. I love the artwork and simple thought-provoking sentiments. Would recommend to friends.
An emotionally fulfilling and spiritually stimulating book.......2003-08-07
Prayers Along The Trail by Jack Terry is a thoughtful picturebook intended for Christian readers of all ages. The warm, soft-toned, realistic art enhances the thoughtful representations of prayers that Cowboys have used to keep God and Jesus Christ in their hearts throughout American history. An emotionally fulfilling and spiritually stimulating book that astutely captures the flavor of the Old West, Prayers Along The Trail would make a superb choice as a gift book and a highly recommended addition to any personal Christian Studies supplemental reading list.

Beautiful Pictures, Terrible Writing.......2004-08-07
Richard Dawson is known for his wonderful western photographs. Unfortunately he chose to partner with an inexperienced writer that is unable to produce anything of value to add to this book. As a coffee table book, this would have been so much better if the text had been left out and the pictures were all that it contained. Tammy LeRoy should try to find another occupation and leave the writing to someone with talent, style and a reasonable vocabulary.
Cowboys, Horses and Scenery.......2000-08-28
This exquisite "coffee table" book is full of the emotions of the real West! Being a horse-person myself, I can feel the beauty and the energy from the great photography in this book. Robert Dawson really captures the moment with his photography. These are photos of areas and activities that some people from the East would love to experience; and those that some of us have experienced and can relive through this book.

Exciting cowboy tale for girls.......2002-01-17
This book is wonderfully written and well researched (many of the locales are familiar to me as an Austin resident). It has all the elements of a great story -- adventure, danger, intrigue, romance -- while remaining realistic and wholesome. My 9-year-old daughter has already read it twice!
A girl's diary of her adventures on the Chisholm Trail........2001-04-26
Fourteen-year-old Hallie Lou Wells is the daughter of a wealthy rancher in South Texas in 1878. At their mother's insistence, Hallie and her little sister are learning to be proper young ladies. But they are also learning how to run the ranch someday. When her father decides not to go on the annual cattle drive so that he can stay home with his pregnant wife, Hallie persuades him to let her go in his place, along with her servant and best friend, Dovey Mae. Along the trail, the two girls face the dangers of rattlesnakes, storms, river crossing, hostile Indians, outlaws, and illness. But Hallie becomes a braver, stronger person, and even experiences the joy of love. Told through the form of a diary kept by Hallie, this book was very similar to the Dear America series, and I would reccomend it to all fans of that series.

Love this book!!.......2007-09-11
I have so many landscaping books that I never opened again after the first week I bought them. This is not one of those books. It's by far so much better than most of the other ones out there. It's well organized for info, and the plans are numerous and easy to follow. Not just for beginners. a really great book!
Curb appeal made easy.......2007-08-31
It's great the way these books are customized for each individual climate area here in the U.S. Saves a lot of wasted planning with the wrong plants and materials.
One of my favorites.......2006-05-19
I recently became interested in gardening (now that I have a yard in which I can plant). This is one of my favorite books on gardening and landscaping. Great resource for those of us living in the northeast. Full of wonderful photos, explanations and illustrations. It gives many ideas for addressing certain areas of your yard (i.e. front entryway, patio, rock wall). Explanations are excellent; I learned a great deal from this book. Very well written. Highly recommended.
Have my own and now purchasing for a neighbor!!.......2005-07-15
A neighbor showed me her copy and I had to get one for myself. Great layouts, great plant selections, this book offers great ideas and variations and is FULL of information! I showed another neighbor the garden I am planning and now I'm buying her a copy as well. We are going to have a GREAT looking street!!
This book is wonderful .......2005-05-26
Home Landscaping: Northeast Region is a very informative book filled with beautiful photos. I don't think I will need another book while doing our landscape planning. Landscaping designs, expected sizes of plants and trees and shrubs, different colors and species, how to's, this book will cover all your landscaping needs if you live in new england.

The rise and fall of a powerful and influential business.......2003-01-06
Illustrated with black-and-white photographs and samples of typefounding, Stephenson Blake: The Last Of The Old English Typefounders is the biography of a man whose family business dominated the British typefounding industry throughout most of the 19th Century - until the late 1880's, when mechanical typesetting systems spelled the doom of the typefounding industry. A detailed history and chronology of the rise and fall of a powerful and influential business carefully researched and very nicely presented by Roy Millington (who draws from his lifetime involvement with Stephenson, Blake & Company, Limited where for more than 30 years he served as the company's honorary archivist and librarian), Stephenson Blake is a unique and very welcome contribution to Publishing History archives and reference collections.
