Book Description
In her acclaimed mysteries set in the age of the British Raj, Barbara Cleverly brilliantly captures a fascinating collision of cultures against a backdrop of jasmine-scented nights and neatly trimmed English gardens. In her gripping new novel, the author of
The Last Kashmiri Rose and
Ragtime in Simla transports us to the remote and exotic setting of India’s North-West Frontier, where a group of travelers is swept into a spellbinding drama of kidnapping, vengeance, and murder.
Scotland Yard Detective Joe Sandilands has been given the unenviable mission of guarding a spirited young American woman with far more wealth than sense. Lily Coblenz, accompanied by a cunning businessman, a woman doctor, and two quarreling military strategists, expects the adventure of a lifetime when she arrives at a remote British outpost. But when the son of a Pathan tribal leader is discovered dead, Sandilands, a decorated war veteran, knows that his mission to protect Lily has suddenly taken a startling new turn that may bring them all to the brink of war.
Now, from the far reaches of an empire, Joe Sandilands must separate lies from truths, innocents from killers—and find the one person with a desperate motive for murder and the key to India’s destiny.

North West Province, The Raj.......2007-05-26
Set at the beginning of the last generation of British rule in the subcontinent, this mystery takes us to the North West Province, in what is now northern Pakistan, with wonderful contrasts of British and tribal cultures straining to avoid another war. Great characters, setting, and plot twists all the way to the end. I hope Ms. Cleverly has a lot more of these coming.
Exciting.......2006-11-08
AS always, Barbara Cleverly keeps my interest and surprises me throughout.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
Spirit of British India.......2006-01-16
Another excellent offering from Barbara Cleverly in herserries about British India. Always interesting and keeps your attention, without any great underlying meaning.
An excellent mystery........2005-04-10
Although it helps to have read the first two books in the series to understand Joe, the other characters are interesting and well developed. She conveys a very tangible sense of place and there are twists and turns that keep you going to the very end. Set against a backdrop of English-occupied India in 1992, this is an excellent mystery, and one certain to be on my 2004 Top Ten list.
Great Read!.......2004-10-30
Couldn't put this book down! Enjoyed the setting, the characters and the plot for this whodunit. Ms Cleverly plops you down in Raj India and away you go! Now reading "Ragtime in Simla" and it is very good too!

Book Description
In Brobdingnag, the kingdom of giants described in Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, Gulliver is cared for by a farm girl whom he calls his Glumdalclitch – “little nurse” in Brobdingnagian. GLUMDALCLITCH is the story of that girl’s adventurous progress to strong and fulfilling womanhood. Her name is Wendeling.
After Gulliver’s apparent death (here this story begins), Wendeling becomes the ward and favorite of the queen. She is schooled in all knowledge by the old savant Hassflig. Her beauty, grace and daring set her apart. She marries her love, Harlbruug, and by diligent effort becomes the most influential woman in a male-dominated society, espousing equal rights for women.
Through it all she cherishes memories of the tiny Englishman, and she and Harlbruug create a Gulliver museum. In the climactic event, Wendeling’s baby is dramatically saved from the clutches of the villainous Skraagnok by the crew of English sailors who have retraced Gulliver’s long-ago voyage to Brobdingnag. After the rescue their ship is trundled back to sea on a wagon and they sail for home as the giant Brobdingnagians wave farewell from shore.

A Charming Tale!.......2001-02-27
Such a charming tale written in classic high english style. Set in the era of damsels and castles, the story guides you through several character building life scenarios of a young couple.
An eloquent use of words and a true delight to read. I didn't want it to end.
I hope a sequel is in the works!.......2001-02-07
A very good read ... even for those not familiar with Gulliver's original travels. I found myself drawn into the character's lives by the craftsmanship of the author. The writing is crisp and clear ... reminiscent of the style of Jonathan Swift in the original Gulliver's Travels. As the story drew to a close, I found myself disappointed that the book didn't extend for another hundred pages. I hope a sequel is in the works!
Great story for young readers!.......2001-01-12
This is a wonderful book for young readers, both girls and boys. While it may take a little effort for youngsters to become accustomed to the names, it's well worth it.
The story is captivating, full of adventure and, as the young characters mature, romance. Gwendeling is the girl who cared for Gulliver in Brobdingnag, the Land of the Giants in Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels." This tale carries the story of her life forward from the time Gulliver disappears. Through many adventures and challenges, she develops from a simple farm girl into an important and respected person in the kingdom.
Underlying the adventure and romance are excellent values: loyalty, honesty, working to achieve important goals, the value of education. For all young readers, and especially girls, this story excites the imagination and stretches the mind, with characters that provide good examples of learning, growing and succeeding.

Book Description
This Elibron Classics book is a reprint of a 1909 edition by Cassell and Company, Ltd., London, Toronto, Melbourne, New York. In this breezy and impudent satire, Lemuel Gulliver embarks on a series of journeys to distant lands, encountering entire societies oflittle people, giants, and talking horses. Making astonishing use of this premise, Swift manages to write a story whose fantastical elements delight children, yet whose ironic depictions of English life are fascinating to the most learned and intelligent adults.

Teen Books.......2007-02-24
great book, my teenager seems to be carrying it with her with interest and is actually reading it and interested in it.......with self help books you never know but this one seemed to talk to her
Mad Mother.......2006-12-15
This book tries too hard to be PC(Politically Correct) in my opinion. The lesbian chapter was over the top. Having sex was too easily accepted as what you do when you want to. My 14 year old is fairly mature but is definitely not ready for this book. I returned it.
Excellent Book.......2005-09-12
This is by far the best self-help book for girls that I have ever come across. It addresses issues--some very difficult--that pre-teen and teenage girls are faced with today. I thought that every chapter was sensitive and well-written. My 14 year old daughter thought the chapters on body image, anxiety and insomnia made her feel better about herself and more in control of her life. I thought that the last chapter, on lesbian teens, was appropriate and helpful as it showed that most girls are not gay, and that tolerance for others who are different is important. My 12 year old daughter found this reassurring as she was beginning to worry that she was a lesbian because of something she read in a magazine. This book is a must-read for every adolescent girl and her parents.
Good book but deals with some tough issues.......2005-09-06
My 14 year old daughter enjoyed most of the book, however the last chapter about what to do if you like someone of the same sex was a little "gross" for her. She isn't sexually active and found some of the issue a little too explective.
Excellent True to Life Book. Would highly recommend.......2003-12-06
I read this book two weeks ago and it has really changed my attitude about myself. It was extremelly helpful and I would recommend it to anyone. This book will definetley help you with all of life's little problems.

Country Life Vegetarian Cookbook.......2007-01-12
This is the best vegetarian/vegan cookbook that I have on my shelf! Rarely do I find a recipe that my family doesn't like. Last night we had the Oatburgers and they were wonderful! Even my picky 3-year old was asking for seconds (and thirds). We are changing our eating habits and trying to live a vegan lifestyle. This cookbook has made it very easy to enjoy yummy, good food without feeling deprived.
Simply the best cook book!.......2005-11-08
This book changed my life. I'm not a vegan, but these recipes are just so good, that without even noticing I started eating only healthy food. 99% of what I made from this book was great!
Country Life Vegetarion Cookbook.......2005-09-11
This cookbook has many great receips for vegan's. They are tasty and fairly easy to make. Would reccomend it to anyone looking for vegan receips whether they are experienced vegan cooks or not
Best Cookbook.......2002-09-03
This is the best cookbook I've ever used, vegan/vegetarian or otherwise. The recipes are simple, tasty, and economical. I'm not much of a cook myself, but, with this book cooking is easy. I wholeheartdly recommend this cookbook to anyone interested in eating more healthfully.
Complete, tasty and economical!.......1999-02-15
I've recommended this cookbook to many over the last 5 years. The recipes are tasty and economical. Living in the heart of dairy country and unable to consume dairy products, and for some time meat, I was delighted not to run into these over-used foods and still find tasty food. I use this cookbook as a reference often. Includes an informative article on dietary fat in the back. It's worth the purchase price.

You'll meet famous Dachies past and present, and learn what makes them great. All the sports Dachshunds can compete in are discussed, along with show ring requirements.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful Book!.......2005-07-17
If you are getting a dachshund or thinking about getting a dachshund.......this is a must have! As the author admits this is not an all inclusive how to train your dog book. But, it does touch on training and specific to dachshunds. They can be a quirky breed (of course that only makes that more lovable!). Those quirks are covered well in this book. Potty issues are always something to contend with when you own a dachshund, but the book touches on how to deal with that. Other training books are generic and not specific. The care for a dachshund is a little different due to their structure.......this is also covered in the book. Other than all that......the pictures are just gorgeous!!!!!! You can't turn a page without each dachshund touching your heart. This also would make a wonderful present for any dachshund lover. The book is informative and entertaining!
An excellent book and guide for understanding your Dax.......2004-11-13
This is a very well written and laid out book, with many color photographs, by an author who is obviously a Dax devotee, personally interested in the breed's welfare. In it you will find everything you would want to know about that cute, short, long clown of a dog in your life - your Dax; from puppyhood to old age, it will teach you how to care for your dog, how to train it, and how to keep it healthy. Definitely highly recommended!
Another Very Good Book!.......2001-07-11
I very much enjoyed this book. It covers many areas and is full of good info. Not a generic book with the word dachshund filled into the blanks. Lots of nice colour photos.
Outstanding for Dachshunds!.......2000-10-23
This is the finest 'coffee table' books on the Dachshund breed. The book has a huge number of photographs depicting the dachshund as it really is - in every aspect. A book for the breeder as well as the enthusiastic pet owner, novie and professional as well. You will truly enjoy this book for its content in both picture and written word.

Customer Reviews:
Hardly a must. .......2006-04-12
After reading these glowing reviews, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. However, I found a lot of information sorely lacking or incomplete. The month-by-month planting guide format is nice, but, in the attempt to guide us through planting almost every single type of flower/vegetable/herb/fruit possible, we get a little information on a lot of plants, but almost nothing is thoroughly covered. For instance, if you plan to grow tomatoes, this book will tell you which month to plant them, give an incomplete explanation as to the causes and remedies of blossom end rot, and give you outdated advice on the advantages of pruning tomato plants. That's it. The other major problem with this book is that organic gardening tips are almost non-existant and the use of synthetic fertilizers is assumed.
Bottom line is this is a great "quick-reference" for hundreds, if not thousands of plants, but if you have any minor problems beyond when to plant and when to water, this book will be no help.
So California Gardening 101.......2006-03-13
I have just returned to San Diego after years in Texas. Before I left, I had little to no gardening experience here. This book has been a wonderful tool to get me on my way in a new gardening environment. The information is clear, concise, and has already saved me from making what would have been several "newbie" mistakes! I am so glad I found this great resource!
Useful for South Australia too!.......2005-08-04
This book is really a superb resource for Mediterranean climate gardeners wherever they are. Although it is specific to Southern
California, and the northern hemisphere, there is nothing else like it as a seasonal guide. If you garden in South Australia or the Western Cape in South Africa you just need to reverse the seasons. This, and the use of non-metric measurements is the only reason I don't give it 5 stars.
Wonderful resource for our region.......2005-02-20
This is a superbly organized book that truly is a SoCal gardening "bible". All the basics and more are covered, month-by-month, (from planting, pruning, and pest control, to "How to Plant a Water Lily"), including some fun ideas with a Martha Stewart flavor to them ("How to Grow a Cantaloupe in a Tire"). The end of the month checklists are concise, useful summaries of each chapter.
I especially appreciate how the author gives background information in addition to detailing the methods you should use, basically, so the gardener doesn't just know HOW to do something, s/he knows WHY (e.g., the effects of Santa Ana winds, "What is an Epiphyte?"). Also, Ms. Welsh is thorough (and thankfully includes organic methods); for example, under Control of Snails and Slugs, she explains not two, but nine ways to deal with those slimy pests.
My single complaint is one of omission: composting is given little attention in this book; vermiculture (using worms for composting) is not even mentioned. I have found composting with a worm bin perfect for "Suburban and Small Space(s)"; if properly maintained, these bins can be used indoors. However, for most gardeners, an expanded composting section for this book is not needed as composting is already an established part of their routine. For beginners, there may be enough information here to get them started. The additional book I recommend below provides sufficient composting and mulching information.
For your Southern California garden, I recommend this book and Weedless Gardening (by Lee Reich), plus a healthy application of compost.
A Must for So Cal Gardners.......2004-10-22
I have many books on caring for outdoor plants, but this book is by far the best I've ever seen! It guides you through purchasing, planting, trimming, pruning, dividing, fertilizing, pest and weed control, vegetable gardening, care of citrus trees, roses and much more. Everything is specific to the S. Calif. climate. There is a chapter devoted to each month, which goes indepth about specific plants and trees that need special attention that month. At the end of each chapter there is a checklist of "to-dos" for the month. With this book your time spent in the garden will produce better results, and it will help you to do things right the first time instead of learning through (costly and time-comsuming) mistakes.

Book Description
Fifteen Iranian women talk intimately about all aspects of their lives from domestic concerns to professional issues.
Customer Reviews:
Intriguing, yet poorly written.......2004-01-31
This book gave me new perspective on Iranian culture. Kousha discussed issues that are most pertinent to women in Iran: mother-daughter relationships, husband-wife relationships, and the different experiences and expectations regarding education and careers.
While the content was interesting, the book was repetitive. For example, on page 54, it says, "Most often, children assume the mother's attitude and beliefs toward the father before they ever get a chance to know him on their own." Two paragraphs later, on page 55, it says, "children assume the mother's attitude toward the father before they themselves have ever had the opportunity to know their father."
If I were to disregard the repetitive nature of the book, it would rate higher.
From family ties to cherished bonds of matrimony.......2003-01-06
Mahnaz Kousha's impressive work, Voices From Iran: The Changing Lives Of Iranian Women reveals the rapidly-changing lives of modern Iranian women and is recommended for college-level students. From family ties to cherished bonds of matrimony, this considers all aspects of Iranian women's experiences.

pretty good.......2001-11-28
Ok, so i dont know anything about iran but after reading this book, i understand how life is there and especially the lives of women. by just looking at this book, it doesnt look interesting and even when you start reading it, its like "what?" but trust me if u want to know about iran and the lives people live there, this is a great book. i live in new york and after reading about how life is so different, it really makes you appreciate what u have especially your freedom.
Most touching, sensitive and thought-provoking book........1998-07-24
From what I gathered prior to reading this beautiful book, it had gotten extremely good reviews in various countries, especially the UK. Having read it, I can honestly say it is fantastic. It is a narration of life. This book is not just about Iran. It is factual, historical, dramatic and passionate. You will want to read on and on. I wish it hadn't ended? Maybe there will be a sequel!
A touching story of the author and the history of a nation........1998-05-20
The writer gives an eloquent account of the life of her two preceding generations in Iranian small towns as well as the story of her own fights, achievements and torments. These, combined with the history of economical rise and the subsequent political downfall of Iran makes the book highly interesting. Rouhi Shafii portrays vivid pictures and provide great analysis of the Iranian people under different circumstances in Iran and abroad. Great book. I highly recommend its reading to all groups and generations of Iranians and others who are interested in knowing more about Iran, its people and the way of life in that country.

informative as well as entertaining.......2002-01-06
I bought this book for a paper I was writing. surprisingly, it was entertaining as well informative. I liked the fact that it included many genres of writing such as poetry, essays, stories, memoirs, etc.
Comprehensive.......2001-01-06
This book consists of a collection of essays, short fiction, and poetry on the theme of women and family in the Middle East. The book is divided into 6 main sections: the family; health and education; war, politics, and revolution; religion and law; work; and identity. Most regions of the Middle East are included, with the exception of the Gulf States. By her choice of such a wide variety of texts, Fernea succeeds in conveying how varied women's issues and concerns are in the Middle East. In some sections, such as the one on work, women's experiences come across as being similar to those found in other parts of the world: wives are reluctant to work for fear of emasculating their husbands, yet a second income has become necessary to allow for patterns of increasing consumption. In other sections, we find information particular to the Middle East, especially in health and education, where Nawal Al-Sa'dawi describes the essence of gender development in Muslim families and Nahid Toubia presents facts about female circumcision. Although some of the texts are now somewhat dated, the book could still be a valuable source for information on the wide range of topics that it contains.

Book Description
First published in 1991 to wide acclaim, Typography Now: The Next Wave rapidly established itself as the one indispensable guide to new experimental typography. Now available in paperback, this is the ground-breaking international survey that plotted the changing landscape of letter forms - from anti-professionalism of Edward Fella to the neo-modernist rigour of 8VO, from Zuzana Licko's Emigre fonts to Barry Deck's type for an imperfect world, from the extraordinary, deconstructed telephone book to seminal projects from Cranbrook Academy of Art.
A lucid introduction by design critic Rick Poynor, editor of Eye Magazine, traces the origins of next wave Typography, whether digital or hand-made, and explains the thinking that gives it shape.
Customer Reviews:
Buy it!.......2001-03-29
This book is basically a guide to "new experimental typography". A bit of intro by the author and the rest are just pictures. But don't get me wrong. I know I said it casually but after viewing (I can't say reading when it comes to pictures, can I?) the content of this book, my head almost burst! So many ideas suddenly popped up!
This book however does not teach you how to create great designs, or how great designs are created. It doesn't tell you the rules of typography etc. All it does is showing you the designs related to typography by some designers. If you're looking for ideas, this is the book for you.
An Automotive Gallery of Masterpieces.......2000-04-01
This 1993 Könemann book (text by Hartmut Lehbrink) presents a photographic history of sports cars. It is by no means an exhaustive encyclopædia of sports cars; nor is it a list of the most important, fastest or most beautiful sports cars of the period. Nevertheless each of the 227 cars lovingly photographed and researched is in some way a classic. Both the photography and histories are excellent, detailed and honest (pointing out the shortcomings of each). At least 2 pages are devoted to each car, one large photo page to each page with history and data (and more photos). This is no pocket guide either, but a very large book, both in the number (467) and size (nearly 10½"x12") of the pages. Altogether a superb book, and well worth the expense.
Comments on Typography Now.......1997-11-05
I would like to comment on Typography Now, a book which showcases some examples of contemporary typographic design works. It is not easy to rate this book: when I first saw it a few years ago, I considered it to be excellent, but now I have to say it1s kind of average. I'm not saying that the author or the editor did not do a good job, it's just because that type of design seems a bit boring nowaday: layering type, shapes, PhotoShop effects and all that...all these have become a kind of visual cliche now, many young designers are doing very similar type of design and not knowing anything behind it, that's a problem. When you've seen enough works like this, you'll be amazed by the fact that the best examples of this type of design, are still the works done by designers such as Wolfgang Weinghart, Willi Kunz, Odermatt & Tissi...their works still stand even in today's design field. Fortunately Typography Now has featured some really good young talents such as 8vo, Philippe Apeloig and Mark Farrow. It is hard to avoid being trendy now, design writers/journalists tend to go after the "new" but not the basic quality, this is a fault that Typography Now has also made.
Designers Must Have.......1997-11-04
Although the examples of the new design in type seem "far out," this book is a must-have for any serious designer who doesn't want to be left behind in the world of 21st century design.

Book Description
One day, years after he's moved away from his childhood home in rural Ireland, Dermot Healy returns to care for his ailing mother. Out of the blue she hands him the forgotten diary he had kept as a fifteen-year-old. He is amazed to find the makings of the writer he has become, as well as taken aback at the changes his memory has wrought upon the events of the past. Here is the seed of his story-the vision of the boy meets the memory of the man-which creates a stunning, illusory effect. The strange silhouettes who have haunted his past come back to inhabit these pages: his father, a kind policeman who guides him back to bed when he stumbles down the stairs sleepwalking; his mother, whose stories young Dermot has heard so often that he believes they are his own; or Aunt Masie, whose early disappointment in love has left her both dreamy and cynical. In this billowing and expansive series of recollections, Healy has traced the very shape of human memory.

Memory through the looking glass.......2000-04-06
In this bittersweet memoir about growing up and growing old, Dermot Healy explores the quality of memory, of tales told and heard and told again, of times half-remembered. Highly stylistic prose reflects the stream of human consciousness, where sometimes a leaf floats past and we think we recognize it as a leaf that floated past a year before. Dermot Healy's "Bend for Home" is part "Portrait of the Artist" and part "Angela's Ashes," combining the ambient grey of Irish poverty with characteristic Irish humor.
Healy has been criticized for betraying his mother's memory in the book's sometimes hilarious, sometimes wrenching last chapter. But it is one of the most touching accounts of a son and mother's last days together since I read Mark Spragg's "Where Rivers Change Direction." What would make his mother proud is knowing that Healy has become one of the first rank of Irish authors, and his account of her decline is a sad, beautiful piece of work.
Healy should be more widely read in America, if only because his is an original voice in a new key, Irish accent or not.
An English memoir ?.......1999-08-04
The cover picture is not Irish but is a photograph of the small town in ENGLAND where I grew up !
Refeshing!!!.......1998-09-14
Dermot Healy doesn't write like Frank McCourt or anyone else, he writes his memior like Dermot Healy. Accept that and you are off to a good start to be able to appreciate his memior. What I found refershing about his way of writing was he did it more to a way that people do tend to recall their lives. It isn't always in direct synchronization, neat, tidy, perfect. We wander, there are impressions we gather because we don't always recall exact verbatum of conversations - here is where writers must embellish a bit creatively.Try to recall your own life to date, try to think of writing it. This isn't so scattered you can't make out what he is talking about but it is written in a style where we are guided to meander with him through his memories, thoughts, impressions.I think we tend to recall our lives by a more personal set of perceptions rather than _always_ an objective,clear-cut unbiased point of view. He doesn't make excuses or seem to be trying to draw pity, he reveals himself to be ultimately human, we self-inflict our own pain most of the time, we set our selves up for a good kick in the teeth. Our lives aren't always so neat and edited.
The one thing I did notice missing from his memior (which initiates at childhood, flashes into youthful adult and weaves back into adolesence and then again forward to his mother being into her 80's and I would suppose him in to his 40's)is what happened during his 30's, and later a marriage. We are only briefed that he has had a daughter to whom a woman he didn't marry - there is no story of that relationship nor of his later marriage which also he quickly mentions. It leads me to feel these were not details he felt ready to share - understandingly likely because these people are still living and out of respect for privacy of their lives - none the less it would have done no harm to bare out a little more understanding, however basic which could have been done respectfully. I noticed the same with Frank McCourt's book- Angela's Ashes - he neither went into more of his life leading up to marriage or after it. The Bend for Home is a really well written book, just know it is _not_ written in the run of the mill manner in which we are used to finding on bookshelves for sale, he writes in an unappologetic fashion which displays his unique creativity as a writer.Great job, Dermot!!!
Don't read Angela's Ashes first........1998-08-25
After reading Angela's Ashes and Dublin Girl, I craved more gritty Irish memoirs. Unfortunately this seemed disjointed and self-indulgent to me. Many of the author's trials seemed self-inflicted, in contrast to the poverty and family tribulations exposed by the other writers.
Enchanting and poignant.......1998-02-02
I picked up a copy of this book while visiting Ireland last summer and was not disappointed. The writing is stunningly vivid and poetic. Best of all, Healy ensures that the reader never quite knows what is real and what isn't.

Book Description
Against a backdrop of revolution, border banditry, freewheeling aerial dramatics, and World War II comes this compelling look at the rise of U.S. combat aviation at an unlikely proving ground--a remote airfield in the rugged reaches of the southwestern Texas borderlands. Here, at Elmo Johnson's Big Bend ranch, hundreds of young Army Air Corps pilots demonstrated the U.S. military's reconnaissance and emergency response capabilities and, in so doing, dramatized the changing role of the airplane as an instrument of war and peace. Kenneth Ragsdale's gripping account not only sets the United States squarely in the forefront of aerial development but also provides a reflective look at U.S.-Mexican relations of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s, particularly the tense days and aftermath of the Escobar Rebellion of 1929. He paints a vivid picture of the development of the U.S. aerial strike force; the character, ideals, and expectations of the men who would one day become combat leaders; and the high esteem in which U.S. citizens held the courageous pilots. Particularly noteworthy is Ragsdale's portrait of Elmo Johnson, the Big Bend rancher, trader, and rural sage who emerges as the dominant figure at one of the most unusual facilities in the annals of the Air Corps. Wings over the Mexican Border tells a stirring story of the American frontier juxtaposed with the new age of aerial technology.

Wings Over The Mexican Border.......2000-09-06
While this is an interesting sidebar to that era shortly after the Mexican Revolution of l910 and prior to WWII, it is a somewhat overcooked tale centering around a remote airstrip in what is now the Big Bend National Park. I interviewed some of the cowboys that worked in that area and in fact talked with one that worked for Elmo Johnson. The tales they had to tell about life there was just fascinating. If the author had put a little more of that in the book in contrast to constantly citing airplanes that come and go...that we never see it would have been much more interesting. I'm not trashing the book, its just that it got difficult to read. At times you wanted to be right there with them because between the lines you can tell what's going on but then at times you are mired in stuff that doesn't paint any picture for anybody.
