Book Description

When ex—Wall Streeter Jacobia “Jake” Tiptree bought a charming 1823 fixer-upper in tiny Eastport, Maine, she figured she’d also bought herself a tranquil, stress-free life. But Jake soon learned that appearances can be deceiving, and that even small towns have their share of dark secrets — including murder.

Wreck The Halls

People hardly ever lock their doors in Eastport. So when Jake and her best pal, Ellie, arrive at Faye Anne Carmody’s kitchen door, they knock and walk right in. But though Christmas is just two weeks away, what they find is far from festive: a dazed Faye Anne covered with blood, and her no-good husband — the town butcher, Merle — nowhere in sight. Nowhere, that is, until Jake discovers his body — tidily wrapped in his own butcher paper....

It doesn’t take long for news of the murder to race through the small town, and just about everyone has a theory about the grisly crime that has robbed Eastport of its least-liked citizen. But while police chief Bob Arnold considers it an open-and-shut case, Jake and Ellie aren’t convinced of Faye Anne’s guilt.

Jake has enough going on in her life without trying to investigate a murder. After all, she’s just married her longtime love, Wade, and the pair plan to spend the winter rehabilitating the paint-encrusted windows in Jake’s old house.

But Jake has to admit that there are a lot of details that don’t add up: for example, Faye Anne’s complaint that she was being stalked, and blood-splattered evidence at the crime scene that just doesn’t make sense. Then there is the diary that Faye Anne’s secret, sometime boyfriend claims is hidden somewhere in her house. Could Faye Anne’s own journal be the key to unlocking an even more fiendish murder plot, or is her double-crossing lover trying to frame her?

When yet another Eastport citizen turns up dead, Jake realizes the murderer’s trail began long before the night Merle Carmody died. But what keeps eluding her and Ellie is the motive behind the mystery. The truth is so close, they can almost taste it — but can they stop the shrewd killer before he chisels another victim’s name onto a tombstone?

5 out of 5 stars The town butcher is found butchered. Did his wife do it?.......2003-02-11

Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree and her friend Ellie stumble across a dazed Faye Ann Carmody covered with blood in her house. Her husband Merle -- the town butcher who was not well liked -- is found in pieces wrapped in his own butcher paper. Faye Ann is charged with his murder but she can't remember a thing and had been drinking. Since it was widely known that Merle was abusive of Faye Ann, everyone believes she finally snapped. The police feel it's an open and shut case. Jake and Ellie don't.

Then there's another death. This one appears to have been a heart attack, but Jake and Ellie feel it was murder and related to Merle's murder. With an attempted murder, things really start heating up.

Christmas is just weeks away. Jake had planned to rehabilitate her old house this winter but now she's on the trail of a killer. There are so many suspects. Ellie and Jake spend their time checking each one out and eventually they end up in danger themselves.

Jake is also a newlywed with a teenage son. Her ex lives in town and keeps coming to her for help with his new relationship. He is a very self-centered man.

This author has created a wonderful town -- Eastport, ME -- with fabulous characters. They are very believable and act just like I would expect people in a small town to act. Her plots are always very well constructed and I have a hard time figuring out who did it and why.

I have read 1 other book in this series. I highly recommend this book and the whole series. This a true cozy series.

I like the friendship between Jake and Ellie that has developed. I hope the relationship of Jake and Wade is more prominent in other books. She spends more time talking to her ex in this book. I'd like to get to know her son Sam better. I think in some of the earlier books he plays a bigger part. One reason she moved to this town was to get him away from his old friends and drugs in the big city.

2 out of 5 stars Not that good a Christmas mystery.......2003-01-30

I liked the characters, but I couldn't believe Jacobia allows her ex-husband to boss her around and to leave his excess junk at her house.

I really disliked the constant interruptions in the telling of the story. Jacobia and her friend Ellie couldn't have a 2-minute conversation without Jacobia going off about her problems with her house. Did I need to know about her possible skunk problems?

What is Jacobia's problem with non-smoking restaurants? I'm not a health Nazi because I don't like people smoking near me.

The last chapter explains all the ins and outs of the murders and their causes. If the book had been better written, I would have realized most of this once the murderer was uncovered.

There are better Christmas mysteries to read.

1 out of 5 stars I give up.......2003-01-23

Like another reviewer, I was terribly distracted by the punctuation, but to me, the offending character was the comma. I complained about this in the Graves' first book, and it was apparently cleaned up until this book.

I read half the book. And was so bored I gave up. Nothing was happening, and the plot and characters were as stark and drab as the Maine late-Fall landscape. I finally decided that life was too short to suffer my way through this book.

Graves tries to coast on her location and witty main character, but it's taken her about as far as she's going to go.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Mystery.......2002-11-15

When Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree plans a visit to Faye Anne Carmody's house, she doesn't expect to find it covered in blood. She also doesn't expect to find Faye Anne dazed, yet alive. But she is. All looks fine, until Jake takes a trip to the butcher's shop, and finds a bunch of meat packages wrapped in brown paper in the display case. Realizing that this is unusual, Jake investigates, only to find Faye Anne's husband's, Merle, body wrapped in those little packages. Then another person is found murdered, and Jake immediately decides that it's up to her to solve the crime, instead of spending time with her family and working on rehabilitating her home. Who can get anything done during the holidays, when there's a killer on the loose?

This was the first book I have ever read from "A Home Repair Is Homicide" mystery series, and I found it to be very enjoyable. I hope to read more by this author in the near future.

4 out of 5 stars Crisp & Cool as the Maine Winter.......2002-05-31

The sense of place is so beautifully drawn in this clever little cozy, that I'll excuse the mystery that gets rather lost going down dark alleys and dashing about chasing red herrings in the sleet and the snow. The language is as crisp and cool as the Maine winter. The landscape on the island of Eastport in Washington County, is simply wonderously set out - and is a place I actually was blessed to spend some time last summer. Having a peek during the chill of winter had me turning up the air conditioning, brrrr! Jacobia and Ellie are quirkily charming characters, who easily become very real and dear friends. A fun approach to life and a witty sense of humor come through each page. The rest of the population seems to be made up of hard working, salt of the earth, good to the bone locals -OR seamy, unsavory, irritating characters (including a loathsome ex-husband who isn't to be completely written off). Even the animals have their charms. Well, not the skunk.

I will absolutely have to have some more of Jake & Ellie, and thoroughly look forward to a return visit. Actually, Ms. Graves nearly had me packing up for a more extended stay on the coast of Maine, to join my dear friend who "ran away" almost exactly like Jacobia did.

This book was probably an excellent resource when it was published, but with the advances in Parkinson's treatment, the book is outdated. On my doctor's advice, I have torn it apart, so that others will not be scared by the contents.

This book has been the most helpful to me so far. I was diagnosed 3 years ago, but my symptoms have not progressed rapidly. She revealed to me many ways to help my attitude, my relationship with my wife, and how to deal with everyday living. She also has prepared me for some things which may come in the future.
It is a MUST read for anyone who has been recently diagnosed.

As the wife of a 'new' Parkinson's patient (diagnosed last year) I've been going through the books on this subject like they were water. This is the first book that I've found that answered my questions and gave me a list of resources to go to. There are so many variables to this insidious disease, and trying to learn about it is hard work. This book has turned out to be an absolute gold mine for me.

I think this book was absolutely wonderful. It answered many questions for my husband, and our family. It was written in a kind and compassionate way, but telling the truth. I bought it and sent it to several relatives.

The First Year- Parkinson's was easy to understand. The use of personal accounts, some emtional situations and sprinkled with humor throughout, helped to make a connection with this reader. The wide range of relationships affected by a chronic illness were clearly identified by Ms. Christensen. I strongly encourage you to read this helpful and insightful book whether you are a "Parkie", know someone who is, or are in the healthcare field and have contact with "Parkies", this book will open your eyes.

Allison Anneser and Sara Thyr,do a nice job in this book. I've been trying to adjust my family to a 'whole foods' diet forever. Many of the books I have are wonderful in their content, but these two women offered what is called 'shifting' allowing the reader to make a more gradual shift towards this life-style. The additional information offered on the value of certain foods, menus, of course, recipes, is all very helpful. I refer to this book almost every day now. I'd recommend it to anyone, it is a very good resource.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book concerning the dying process........2007-01-17

I found this book to be extremely helpful during the grieving process. It helped me understand death from my dog's point of view. After reading this, I felt connected to my dog and less devastated by her absence. The book has also helped me understand the loss of my human companions, as well.

                      5 out of 5 stars In peace..........2007-01-10

I found this book very comforting and brought me a lot of peace. I had to put my pet to sleep some months ago and it was a very difficult decision, a lot of mixed feelings. Elizabeth lets us know that our pets prepare us for their death and inform us of how they want to cross over. Made me feel in peace with the decision I took. It gave me a spiritual understanding. Thank you so much for this book!

                      5 out of 5 stars A MUST read.......2006-02-05

I don't know why there aren't hundreds of reviews on this book, because it's absolutely magic. If you're looking for comfort and evidence, buy it! I am grateful Elizabeth shared her insights with us, readers. As I am in the learning process of becoming an animal communicator myself, I am doing research in reading as much as I can. But first of all I am a grieving person who's animal friend recently died and I am besides myself with grief over this loss. Elizabeth shares her knowledge that all is as it's supposed to be. She enlights, she has such insight, and yet, as a scientifically educated woman, she does not take things for granted. The care-humans (as she calls them) of the pets, deceased or alive, acknowledge her words over and over again. Facts. I read this book of 143 page's in one day, up to late at night. Just couldn't stop. It was one of the most beautiful gifts I received. So just buy it :-)

5 out of 5 stars would you like to see how an animal views death? read this book.......2006-01-31

Judging from the response to this book, not many people buy this book, but a lot of people see the site. That said, I found this book to be quite intriguing. Like "1smileycat", I had to recently put down my favorite pet (in my case, my beloved dog of 10 years). I actually found out about this book from looking at 1smileycat's profile (so thanks :) ) and bought it. Severino's book is a nice read and offers an interesting view of dying, death, and euthanasia- all, as the title suggests, told from an animal's point of view. A good read and definite recommendation for anyone grieving the loss of a loved pet.

5 out of 5 stars Be open minded while reading this book........2005-12-29

I truely enjoyed "The Animals' Viewpoint on Dying, Death, and Euthanasia" by Elizabeth Severino, D.D., D.R.S, animal communicator.

As I write this, it has been 10 days since I had to euthanize my beloved companion of 16-17 years. Spike, my pure white cat with one green eye and one yellow eye, was a true delight to own. We knew each other very well. When one of his back legs no longer worked and the other back leg was not strong enough to do the work for both, I knew it was the beginning of the end.

I had known the end was closer than I wanted it to be for a few months. He was losing weight just as fast as he was eating. He no longer felt the need to groom himself, and he just wasn't himself. The decision to euthanize him was both an easy one and a hard one to make. ~ I had sworn from the beginning of his decline that I would not allow him to suffer, and it was time to make good on that promise. Yet, it was so hard to let go of a beloved companion that kept my every secret, took care of me when I was sick, and did nothing but love me his entire life. That's where this book hit home for me.

Elizabeth Severino does a wonderful job of telling the stories of her experiences with animals in her life, and what she has learned from animals since that helps her to understand those past experiences. One of the main things learned is that there are 3 stages of death, and euthanizing an animal in the 3rd stage is the best. The animal does certain things to let you know it is in the 3rd stage. And the animals themselves are aware of these stages, and prefer euthanasia to a painful existance/death. I believe Spike had just entered that 3rd stage when it 'came to me' that it was his time to go.

This book also offers the idea that animals reincarnate. You should have an open mind to read this book. I don't know what I believe yet about reincarnation, but I'm certainly open to hearing views regarding it - and I enjoyed reading the views expressed in this book.

I recommend this book for anyone who has had to, or feels they may need to, euthanize their pet. It also offers some prayers and methods of healing that I found very interesting. This book wasn't about finding comfort for myself regarding losing my pet, however I did feel a sense of relief after reading it.

I wasn't going to plant a native plant garden until I read this book. It's extremely well-organized and the authors infuse you with their excitement about the plants. The "personal comments" section is the best. Even though the plant might not be high on your list, the comments section may give some information that may make you desire it. They also have landscape designs that you can implement yourself. If you're interested in creating a butterfly or bird garden, this book lists what types of animals are attracted to the plant. They have the book parsed out into deciduous trees, deciduous shrubs, grasses, bog plants, etc. Each plant has several sections telling the shade, moisture, height, wildlife, fall colors, flower, fruit, and anything else you could possibly want to know about the plant. It's better than any of the other garden books that I have read, including ones from national gardens, etc.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for North Florida.......2002-11-09

I live in the forgotten land of North Florida (more like South Georgia - but more humid and rainy!) This book has become one of my favorite books because it clearly indicates just how far south native plants will thrive. So many books only indicate the upper limit on climate zones. The pictures are wonderful and the organization makes it an especially useful and handy reference.

If you live in the Southeast and want to know more about gardening with native plants, this is THE place to start. I've poured over this book time after time, and now I have to buy a second copy because a friend kept my first copy after borrowing it! This book has great info and pictures, AND it's fun to read. What more could you ask for? (Well, how about Volume 2? ;-) )

4 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for native planting.......2006-05-12

This is one of the most helpful books I've picked up recently. The beginning of the book lays out the geography, geology, and ecology of Tennessee, as well as the reasons behind using native plants in your landscape. The way the author described the state's heritage made me want to return things to natural in my own space.
She also points out a few of the invasive plants in the area and reasons to avoid them. I thought this section could have had more information though.
The remaining 2/3 of the book is lists of all the native wildflowers, shrubs, trees, and vines in Tennessee. It lists which sections of the state they are native to, there preferred growing conditions, whether they are easy to grow and transplant. Also included with each is a good color photograph, although many of the are kind of small and up close, so it's hard to decipher the full plant or its growing habit. I think I'll be doing a lot of research on the internet to find better pictures of the candidates for my garden.
The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 are 1) the pictures, as mentioned, and 2) I thought the cost of the book is a little high for what it is. Although if I had it to do over again, I would still pay the 23 bucks, because no other source that I know of has such a concise and complete list of this kind. Other states should be envious!

5 out of 5 stars Hunter deftly blends ecology, conservation, & horticulture .......2004-12-07

Margie Hunter was moved to write the book Gardening with the Native Plants of Tennessee: The Spirit of Place when she had a difficult time finding an easy, single source of information about her state's native plants.

Browsing through the book, you will see that, though it is written from the perspective of a Tennessee native, most of the plants featured are found throughout the Southeast. As Hunter notes in her introduction, "native plants recognize no such boundaries" as state lines.

I'll give you a brief tour of Hunter's book, and you will likely find, as I did, that it offers a wide and thorough mix of information that is organized in a logical and sensible manner. You will also see that it differs in some respects from many books in its class, and it is, in essence, a blend of ecology, conservation, and horticulture.

I found the first chapter unique for a book on plants. It is entitled "The Geography, Geology, and Soil of Tennessee." Here Hunter gives an overview of the physiographic regions of the state, including their geology, climate, and soils. It makes perfect sense to have such an introduction in a native plant book and makes me wonder why more authors have not thought of this. At the end of this and every chapter, Hunter provides a list of sources for further reading, which is quite useful if you want to continue your studies of a topic.

Hunter's second chapter logically follows by describing the plant communities of Tennessee. She begins by explaining that plant communities are the result of the five factors of climate, geologic history, topography, hydrology, and soil type. She also explains the different layers of the forest and the process of succession. Hunter then lists plants that will be found in the various plant communities of Tennessee (such as mesic forest, xeric forest, etc.). For the large part, this mirrors communities found throughout much of the Southeast.

As Hunter begins Chapter 3, she says, "All living things are interconnected," which is an appropriate start to this chapter on Tennessee wildlife. She gives a brief introduction on general ways to attract wildlife to the garden. Then she lists some of the fauna of Tennessee, including butterflies, moths, other insects, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals.

Chapter 4 covers the rare and endangered plants of Tennessee and the pest plants that threaten our native plant diversity, with a good explanation of why these invasive plants are such a menace. Hunter helpfully includes a section describing what gardeners as consumers can do to protect endangered plants. Her advice includes how to avoid purchasing wild-collected specimens by looking for suspicious signs at the nursery. Some of the "red flags" she warns us to look for: large quantities of a species for sale; very low prices; bare-root plants; plants in real soil rather than potting soil; tree roots or rocks in the pot with the plant; large specimens for a low price; and plants that are difficult to propagate or slow growing.

The next chapter, "Native Plant Gardening," begins with brief tips on gardening with different categories of natives, such as ferns, grasses, and woody plants. Hunter includes a useful list of native plants that have performed well in trial gardens, which will surely be an aid to gardeners just beginning to employ natives. This chapter also includes some basic botany, such as an explanation of soil pH, the plant life cycle, and light requirements. Line drawings are used to illustrate basic flower parts, inflorescence types, and leaf structure.

Our tour of Hunter's book has thus far taken us about a quarter of the way into the book. The remainder (except for a few appendices) is a compendium of some 450 species of Tennessee's native plants, grouped by plant type: wildflowers; ferns; grasses, sedges, and rushes; vines; shrubs; and trees. Each plant is succinctly described and illustrated with a small color photo. Beyond the basic plant description that you would expect, Hunter also includes propagation methods, cultivation requirements, distribution patterns within Tennessee, and use by wildlife if applicable. Another plus is that she gives the pronunciation for each plant.

Hunter closes the book with several useful appendices, including nurseries that specialize in native plants, agencies and organizations of interest, botanical gardens, and native plant conferences.

                      5 out of 5 stars Great Book - Even for a non-gardener!.......2004-08-09

Anyone interested in the botanical history of Tennessee (or for that matter, the surrounding states) will enjoy this exploration of the common plants of the Volunteer State. Crisply written and easy to understand, this delightful book should be a part of any nature library - even if you are non-gardener like me! Margie's enthusiasm and love for plants permiates every page and will leave the reader yearning for his or her own "spirit of place".

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful resource for a gardener new to Tennessee.......2004-03-11

This is a lovely book. I'm an experienced gardener in England and my husband bought me this when we moved to Tennessee. It has given me the confidence to understand what I'm doing in this new climate, and to ensure that my efforts to 'improve' the land I garden here won't damage it.

The book has good detailed information on native plants and starting points for acquiring them.

Normally with a reference book on any subject, I would just dip into it as needed. This one I picked up and read cover to cover !

5 out of 5 stars Excellent handbook on Tennessee natives.......2002-12-03

On my first gardening day after purchasing Margie Hunter's book, I used it at least three times to make sure I had the right plant in the right growing conditions. Margie has managed to squeeze an amazing amount of information in a small space, using a very pleasing format. Her book, while providing excellent details, presents the information with a chatty, casual voice, as though one was getting advice from a neighbor with a very green thumb. The section on the geology of Tennessee was a delightful surprise for me with its explanation of the origin of the variety of soils within our state. My only criticism of the book is the size of the excellent photographs. While the handbook size of the book makes it easy to take to the garden for reference, these middle-aged eyes of mine find the small pictures a little disappointing. For Tennessee gardeners in particular, and mid-south gardeners in general, anyone interested in gardening with native plants will find this book to be a thorough, well-researched and enjoyable aid to their efforts.

                          Book Description

A year 2000 Finalist in the ECPA book competition!Accounts of injustice from our own communities and from around the world often leave us feeling outraged and helpless. We wonder what we can possibly do in response. And we wonder where is the God of justice?Jesus, however, said, "Take heart! I have overcome the world." Gary Haugen sees the truth of Jesus' claim vindicated throughout Scripture, which portrays a God who rises up against injustice. He also sees this truth in the lives of sometimes little-known Christians who through the years have courageously confronted evil when they saw it. Here he tells stories of these witnesses of hope in a hurting world. The good news about injustice is that God is against it. God is in the business of using the unlikely to perform the holy, Haugen contends. And in this book he not only offers stories of courageous witnesses past and present, he also calls the body of Christ to action. He offers concrete guidance on the ways and means its members can rise up to seek justice throughout the world.

Haugen is the president of the International Justice Mission, an incredible organization that seeks to demonstrate the compassion and justice of God in nations around the world. The book is first and foremost a defense of this concept - that we, as followers of Christ and children of God, serve a compassionate God who is concerned with and passionate about the particular travesties of injustice in every corner of the globe. Haugen takes the reader through dozens of scriptural passages and principles to make his point and leaves the reader asking what they can do to make a difference in the world.

Haugen next gives the reader not only a bird's eye view of the various injustices across the globe, but also a very personal look at several severe situations of injustice where IJM has made a difference in the lives of real people. Haugen calls for the body of Christ to be a body of action, engaged in various efforts to promote justice and compassion for the lost and hurting. A strategy is presented for the interested, but the primary thrust of the action is done through the channels of organizations like IJM who are already established and connected with resources to assist.

The book is an excellent read for any person who either is ignorant of the conditions of others across the globe or is questioning the concept that one person can't really make a difference. IJM is an outstanding ministry and opportunity for Christians everywhere to use their God-given time, talents and treasure to defend the defenseless. Micah 6:8 is a favorite verse of many and it reminds the follower of Christ what the Lord has told us is important in life - to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. Justice is obviously a key component of God's character and must be a key facet of the ministry of God's people here on earth as a demonstration of His nature and goodness in this lost and dying world. Good News about Injustice is a great reminder of this principle meant to shake a self-absorbed culture from its comfortable La-Z-Boy rocker!

I highly recommend this book. I hope to use parts of it with my college students after we have viewed HOTEL RWANDA. This is a powerful follow-up to a movie that should shake you to your foundations.

5 out of 5 stars Keep the faith..........2005-04-12

Sometimes circumstances predispose us towards financial inequality that may further push us towards social inequality and one seems to falsely believe that there is no hope for our own future or for the generations to come. In such circumstances the only way to find a meaningful solution and to get oneself out of this vicious circle is to stand back and look at the big picture. At the heart of the problem are both external and internal factors. While we may not be able to control the external factors directly, being honest to ourselves we must resist the urge to focus solely on them. It is actually our moral obligation to directly address the internal problems, the key to which only we hold. If there is one undercurrent that makes it easier for things to get better, then that is inculcation of unwavering faith and strong family values and truly believing that there is hope for the future. These should not simply cease to exist for us the moment we step outside the church but must be reflected in how we live our lives and that is a profound lesson in life and religion. Closely intertwined with these are the values of gender equality as well as respect and belief in the dignity of every human life. There is no justification in pointing the finger outwards if we, ironically, are lacking the same values within ourselves that we expect others to demonstrate. We must look within ourselves to grow as better human beings. The ability to bring our dreams to realization is closely related to receiving the right education in the context of our innate potential, all held together by a strong and caring social structure that we can grow in. However, for all of this to take place the undercurrent of family values and faith and lasting marriages based on trust and mutual respect must be there. In this regard, from the religious perspective, it is also the responsibility of churches and religious organizations to bring to the limelight positive role models, help clean up bad social trends as well as leave no stone unturned for any broken family to get the much needed social support. Also critical is the need to provide constructive after-school programs as well as logistic and financial support in pushing children in the direction of their talent as well as receiving the right education such that each child is able to turn their dreams to reality...

This book changed the way I think about the world in important and good ways. I've heard the author speak, and he is uniquely credible.

5 out of 5 stars An overdue treatment of a pressing topic.......2000-05-11

In this book Haugen has given us a small taste of our God's advocacy of those who suffer at the hands of illegitimate authority. It is an excellent introduction to the topic for those just starting out, pointing out from Holy Scripture that God hates injustice, and from raw experience of this world's evil that that injustice persists. This book is long overdue, and I hope and pray that many like it will follow.

Compared with the publisher's blurbs, however, I must say that I found the book somewhat disappointing. For those of us working in situations of injustice around the world, the book did not really come across nearly as hard-hitting as the publisher would have us believe. I haven't seen the video yet; maybe it is better. But the book by itself, while it is supremely hopeful, does not capture the poignancy of situations in such a way that would really motivate the reader to action. Perhaps Haugen is relying on TV news broadcasts to do that.

The final chapter, "The Body of Christ in Action," is well-written, and shows some of the important ways that the whole Church can become involved in seeking justice for the oppressed. It deserves a careful reading, even by those who don't feel qualified to work out in the field.

Frost's retrospection of an old Black man with sharp memory, good eyes and true words, drags you down an Alabama road kicking. You don't want to believe that your ancestors suffered or inflicted these horrors yet you are living proof it happened. Frost's southern road gives hurtful, ugly, vivid images that set the norm in life for Blacks & Whites in old Eufaula. Recollections are frightening and ironic in a mood typical of southern storytellers. Hate in Frost's world is ignorance and...yes, eventually, time heals all that compassion neglects.
