I got this book for my history class and have found it to be very informative and gives more than one point of view on the events it covers. (the only thing I find distracting is that the binding broke down right away - this happened with many other students who got their books from various places). The index is handy and the abbreviations key is helpful.

Fascinating account of the conflict from a new perspective.......1998-12-05

You won't find the information you get in "Sacred War" in many other books. Whereas most Vietnam literature concentrates on American decision-making, this book reminds us that there was another side to the Vietnam War. A very detailed account of Vietminh and Viet Cong thinking and insightful as into why we didn't win the war.

Good Book, Poor Quality Edition.......2007-07-13

I loved this book, but unfortunetely I did not read the one that I ordered from Amazon. This particular edition is in small print and it was hard for me to read it. So I ended up buying it at a local bookstore where the print was bigger and much easier to read. So if small print with no space in between the lines bother you, this may not be a good edition of the book to purchase. But please purchase a copy of the book. It's a wonderful story with great lessons to be learned.

Iyanla writes a great book that is truly inspirational though sad. I could not put this book down, it is such a look into the feelings of a young girl and how her life affected her. I could totally relate and see this book as giving anyone hope and inspiration to have a great life and help others.

This book, that poem changed my ENTIRE life and still is. For so long people have been thought to believe that crying is a sign of weakness, and for me that was Magnified to the point where anger built up inside of me so much that it poured out in all the wrong times and at all the wrong people... until I read that poem, "Yesterday, I Cried." That poem is so powerful, not just in my situation but it's powerful in relation to life... Crying is HEALTHY! And moreso, it's OK!!!! I won't go into loads of detail, but read the book.... YOu will NOT be disappointed and you won't walk away from it with less, but more. Iyanla Gives such spirtual food to our souls and I really feel that this woman has an abundance of knowledge and just encouragement to give... it's truly a Wonderful thing what she's doing... I know some say hey it's a career hey she's making money... But the bottom line is, that's the cycle of life... but I think money that's spent on improving ones inner self and making it easier to deal with life.. I mean, this is a chaotic world we live in... there's hurt, pain, disappointment, all types of things we encounter and I think dollars spent on building up our Inside to cope with the Outside is money well spent. She has an incredible message to deliver to those willing to listen... Life is more internal than external and it's important that we build our "insides" up so that we can withstand the storms of the outside world... and yes, it is THAT serious. Depression is on the rise and I personally think it's because we don't have enough Value coming from the inside our ourselves... but this is something that we can work on, and this book is just one of the many tools that Iyanla (and others I'm sure) gives us to do so. I am personally a huge fan of Iyanla because I believe in the sincerity and fullness of her message... she's a wonderful relay of imperative messages.

CD is Abridged..........2005-10-08

I got the CD so that I could listen and read along. I am reading this book for academic reasons and normally do not read these types of books. The CD was to help me if the book got slow to me. The problem is that the CD cuts out sentences, paragraphs, pages (I counted once a 7 page leap), and chapters (Chapter 5 - "What is the Lesson When You Are Poor, Ugly, and Feeling Bad" was completely skipped.) I recommend that if you want the whole story with all of the details, just read the book.

Wonderfully Insightful.......2006-06-14

Mr. Fodor has done an excellent job of exposing the ins and outs of urban planning and growth. His sources are prolific and complete with a well balanced presentation of the challenges of growth and development to any community. For me, this book was a "suspicions confirmed" expose' of why it becomes so much more expensive to live in a city. This book is an excellent read with many interesting case studies, charts, analyses, and graphics and I have reviewed it and quoted it often as I have prepared to address our local planning commission and city council. Most of my urban planning and growth questions were addressed in this book.

An Excellent Debunking of the Pro-Growth Myths.......2006-03-25

The public has come to accept growth as natural, or at least inevitable, as a result of unbalanced coverage in the media. Pro-growth forces, such as the building and real estate industries, are a significant source of advertising revenue, so there is little motivation to present alternative views. Fordor, in his book, presents carefully documented rebuttals to most of the common pro-growth arguments, making this an excellent book for readers who are concerned about environmental and municipal planning issues.

Eben Fodor, that's who. Fodor is a professional community planning consultant from Eugene, Oregon. He has written a book that defies the conventional wisdom, and backs it up with solid evidence. Eben Fodor's comments and insights were 100% right on target. This book was like a blueprint as to how this mega deal is being forced down the throats of the citizens of my community. From the elistist few of the "urban growth machine" that would benefit from this project, to the creation of a false sense of urgency to push through our city council for a 30 year tax break for the developer, to the p.r. blitz offering up false either/or choices...everything discussed in "Better not Bigger" is happening in my hometown. This is absolutely "must reading" for anyone who wants to understand how the "urban growth machine" can ruin community. What Eben Fodor teaches is that smart growth is better then stupid growth. If you care about the community you call "home".....read this book!

I'm in the process of planning a wedding in Jamaica and was hoping for some suggestions. The basics are covered in the book but it is from 1995. It suggests going to the library and travel agents for help and brouchures. It would have been nice if it mentioned the internet at all. It is geared toward inexperienced travelers. Overall I wouldn't recommend it only because the information can be found through any wedding site.

This is a great book for the novice traveller. I did not find anything very useful. It also has a few pages for each location. Certainly not useful for my Scotland wedding as it had 5 total pages for Europe! I only paged through this book and was very disappointed.

Unless you need help packing or planning for a trip, there is very little here of value with respect to honeymoons (I can't evaluate its worth with respect to planning a wedding). I was hoping for specific recommendations of places to stay for a honeymoon. This book offered only one paragraph descriptions of the destinations in general (plus a couple of sentences about things to do). If you are looking for a book which offers suggestions on specific resorts/hotels to go for a honeymoon, don't waste your money here.

This study presents the religious factor in the development of a separatistic group identity among the forebears of the Afrikaners during the Dutch colonial period of South African history. Dutch Reformed covenant theology and baptism practice rooted in the thousand generation covenant theory helped to shape this self-understanding. It traces the basic developments of covenant theology in the Netherlands during the period and demonstrates how these concepts were conveyed to colonial South Africa. The dominant strain of covenantal thought treated the entire community as redeemed and called to be separate. It was presented through a variety of means through which virtually every colonist was exposed. This study offers a balanced historical approach to the role of theological concepts in the colonial roots of Afrikaner group identity. It answers traditional scholarship in the field which either directly identify the concepts behind the development of apartheid with Calvinist theology or, more recently, deny that the Reformed faith had any role in the development of apartheid ideology until the twentieth century.
