Pleasantly Surprised.......2006-10-28
I definitely wasn't expecting a Christian story of good v.s. evil when I picked this book up, but I got a Christian story, nonetheless. Well, to be more precise, I got a Catholic story. At it's base level, this book is a story of a "good Catholic boy" (direct quote from the book) named Mikhail, who is pitted against a voodoo priest, named Henri, with an innocent girl as the prize. The voodoo priest has been told by a "seer" that he has to marry the girl or die. Of course, the girl, Lori, isn't too keen on the idea of marrying a man who dabbles in the occult and who made his fortune in drugs. When she uses a jet ski to escape from Henri, she almost drowns and is rescued by the kind-hearted Mikhail. After Lori's mother and sister are kidnapped, Mikhail, Lori and a group of friends infiltrate Henri's mansion during a Halloween party to save them.
The heroes in this book are endearing and the villains are unmistakeably evil. An interesting point was that Henri's voodoo priest friend, Oliver, is unable to use his powers on Mikhail, presumably because of his faith.
Although it is good to see a book where Christianity overcomes occultic influences, I must comment on the fact that this book never mentions God or Jesus as the power behind the characters' faiths. They consistently put Saints such as Joan of Arc in that role. Also, there are some places were the POV changes between characters a bit too much, sometimes in the middle of conversations.
Overall, the book is a pretty good-and fast-read.
Great Novel.......2005-11-09
This is one of the best books that I have read this year, and I read a lot of books! There is a lot of witty dialogue between Lori and Mikhail, the two main characters. I liked them so much that I was constantly worried about what was going to happen to them. The story is very exciting. I could hardly put the book down! I read the entire novel in two evenings!

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
There are two parts to this. An appropriate adjective for a whole bunch of super-simians? If you are the superhero on the end of an assault on a metahuman prison by a bunch of parachuting supergorillas, then the correct adjective is likely 'faecalload'.
In the second part of the trade, things get even worse, as the new Zoom turns up, wanting to make Wally a better hero. This usually involves violence and death and trying to outdo the Flash in speed. Not good.
FLASH CONTINUES TO BE A FAST READ!.......2005-08-17
I've been a huge fan of The Flash since I was a kid. Geoff Johns writing of the Flash and his entire universe has been nothing short of spectacular. With BLITZ Johns manages to outdo himself!
This is a solid 8 issue printing of a storyline that sees one of Wally West's colleagues become a new version of one of the Flash's oldest villains...PROFESSOR ZOOM. The story is told with solid pacing, dialogue, plotting, and action. Johns writes characters that we want to care about and that we can sympathize with (even when we don't agree with their actions). In some of his earlier Flash TPB's there were a few too many asides for all the supporting cast. This time out Johns keeps it simple with Wally West and Zoom.
It's an exciting fast-paced read!
The Greatest Flash Story Ever!.......2005-04-08
This is has got to be the best Flash story ever written!!! Geoff Johns knew what he was doing when he wrote this storyline. Under his guidance, "Blitz" would become one of the most important and historical storyline's ever for the Flash and is praised by many comic fans still to this day. And even if your new to the Flash and his history, then this is also the book for you since you basically get the history of Wally West (the current Flash), his wife Linda Park, Jay Garrick (the first Flash), and most of the Rogues to. We're also for the first time introduced to the Flash's arch-enemy and the most deadliest rogue of all: Zoom (literally "the Reserve Flash".) And there's even a guest appearance by two older character's all the fans will love.
Overall, if you are a Flash fan then is a MUST HAVE! Buy it as soon as you can! I recommend it more then even "The Flash Archives."
The Flash Bloodied and Bowed.......2005-01-24
This is one of the grittiest Flash stories ever. It is filled with suspense, stunning violence and fabulous artwork. Without giving anything away. It is a tale of vengence, betrayal and tragedy, and should be on every comic book readers must read list. This isn't your father's Flash kids, and it firmly plants the character in the modern world where people die and tragedy haunts every hero's life. For maximum effect, it must be read in one sitting.
Zoom is Back!.......2004-08-10
Geoff Johns and Scott Kolins go all out in their revival of my personal favorite Flash rouge Zoom, the reverse Flash.
If you've read previous volumes in the John?kolins run, you will see the threads they placed be pulled together in what has to be one of the best modern origins of a villian in sometime. But even if you've not read the previous stories, through Johns's deft storytelling ability, you can pick up this volume and not feel overwhelmed, or that you are missing too much of what came before.
This sory is intense and with out giving it away, the resurrection of Zoom will have lasting effects on the Flash and the people in his life from here on out.
I cannot recommend this title highly enough. Read up and good times will follow!!

Book Description
"Worldwide diabetes epidemic predicted."-- Reuters, Semptember 8, 1998
Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, and many of the 2,200 people in the United States diagnosed with diabetes each day are unaware they have it until major complications arise. Prevention and treatment of diabetes have become an urgent priority, as the global diabetes have a serious impact on the aging American population. Particularly alarming is type 2, or "late-onset" diabetes, a chronic illness that impairs the body's ability to use the insulin it produces to regulate blood sugar levels. In The Diabetes Cure, Vern Cherewatenko, M.D., has developed an innovative program to cure type 2 diabetes using HCA--hydroxycitric acid--to enhance the effectiveness of the body's own insulin.
HCA is an herbal compound found naturally in the brindle berry and is sold over the counter. Taken in conjunction with the mineral chromium, HCA can improve your body's response to insulin without resorting to some of the "harder" and more expensive glucose-control drugs on the market. Best of all, there are no side effects. Dr. Cherewatenko counts HCA and chromium consumption as one of the nine steps to curing diabetes--others presented and discussed comprehensively in the book include exercise, stress reduction, healthy eating habits, and frequent doctor visits.
Dr. Cherewatenko also provides important warning signs that can help prevent diabetes in those determined to be at highest risk. And if you already have the disease, he will show you how to halt it's progression and possibly reverse its debilitating effects. With the aid of the nine simple steps outlined in The Diabetes Cure, you can beat diabetes and get your health in order.

The Diabetes Cure: A Natural Plan..........2007-08-06
Excellent. This book is easy to read and contains common sense medical advice that embraces an integrative approach to healing. Written by an M.D., even the most conservative patient can be confident that the recommendations in this book are based on long term trials and personal case studies of the author himself, and his patients. In other words, this was not written by some New Age guru or quack selling snake oils. Dr. Cherewatenko does not sell anything but does include a list of Consumer Reports' Top 8 glucometers in his book, as well as specific supplements by brand name that he recommends. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in improving their overall health.
Cut My Insulin Use By 33 Percent!! So far. . ........2005-08-20
IF YOU GET ANY BOOK FOR DIABETES, GET THIS ONE!!!
I have had Type 2 Diabetes for over twenty-five years, I take
five Prescription Drugs, two types of Insulin to "Control" my
Diabetes. I have started the 9 Steps (five I have been doing
already) for a month and a half now. I have had measurable
results!! So far my Insulin use has dropped by 33 percent! Yes,
for the same amount of carb/time intake, what I use to have to
take 15 units for I now only use 10! I have always had a real
problem with my triglycerides, (this made by blood like pudding)
after starting the use of the hydroxycitric acid and chromium
from the book my triglycerides have dropped from a danagerous 798
to 333 so far. This again is a measurable number. All I can say
is SO FAR this book and information has been G R E A T ! ! !

Needs more up-to-date nutritional information.......2004-09-02
I have not yet read the *whole* book in detail. However, I have browsed it, particularly the nutritional advice.
IMO, the information about using the combination of hydroxycitric acid and chromium is worth perhaps the price of a *used* copy of this book. Otherwise, most of his nutritional advice basically reads like warmed-over anti-fat, anti-cholesterol hysteria. This guy needs to read more about the low-carbohydrate way of life. That said, other readers may find more of value in this book than I did.
I would recommend, instead, (1) Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution, by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein, and (2) the newest Atkins book on diabetes. The Bernstein book is a very comprehensive resource on managing diabetes (type I and II). The Atkins book continues to have very good advice on the low-carbohydrate way of life. Bernstein, by the way, is a type I diabetic who not only has far outlived the original prediction for life expectancy for type I diabetics, but he is a pioneer in the use of blood glucometers (by patients) to keep blood sugars tightly controlled.
INACCURATE.......2004-07-31
For those of you know are not aware of this, THERE IS NO CURE FOR DIABETES ONCE YOU HAVE IT (short of a pancreas transplant) I can't believe this author would make such a claim. As far as slowing or stopping it, save your money. Information about how to lower your risk is widely available FREE from many sources including the internet. For example, just follow a sensible meal plan like the American Diabetes Association advises and you can lower your risk of getting this disease. But as far as "curing" it? Nope. Not true. Talk about false advertising. What a snake oil salesman. Again, I repeat, THERE IS NO CURE.

Finally a New Revised and Expanded Edition.......2007-03-26
A new revised and expanded edition of an old favorite. We all know that the process of getting food is to plant, raise, or catch it, then cook and eat it. But John Ash takes it a bit further. He concentrates primarily on serving what is in season now, what he can get fresh - especially fresh from his own garden or at least local.
Sometimes, of course that's a little hard to do. For instance he cooks a lot of fish, tuna, sturgeon, pacific rock cod, halibut and more. It's a whole bunch of miles from here (Nevada) to the ocean, you want tuna, it's frozen. Sturgeon, never seen it here. Cod, I got some a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Now I wish I had had this book then, as the recipie of cooking it with oranges, tomatoes, and olives sounds really different and something worth trying. ==One point I really like about this book is his wine recommendations. With the rock cod he says sauvignon blanc, rieslings, Pinot Grigio or Noir. I think I could go with any of these.
On the whole, his earlier version of this book was good, this new one is even better, more recipies, more things to try, and nearly all of them sound good.
a great cooking philosophy.......2000-08-23
I love this cookbook, not only because I love the flavors of the wine country and John Ash has a great mix of recipes that convey them, but also because the philosophy behind the recipes relies so heavily on using fresh, seasonal, local ingredients. The recipes are not super-simple, but if you have some cooking experience and are willing to take the time to search for the best ingredients, the rewards are well worth it.
The best, freshest food that I've ever tasted!.......1999-01-15
I have used this book more than any other cookbook in my home. I am constantly learning about new, fresh ingredients and the results are really wonderful. Every time I cook using these recipes, my friends ask me for the recipe. I've purchased this book for several friends too - it's a great gift, especially if you live in Northern California. Visiting John Ash's restaurant is a wonderful experience too!
My most used cook book.......1998-09-07
As a collector of cook books and as one who entertains regularly (both for friends and for business - it is not unusual for us to have over a100 people in a month at home for corporate related dinners) I find this book the one that I most often turn to. It is imagnative yet practical, sufficiently different to a lot of theothers that I have and everything that I have tried has been a huge success. Would love to know if John Ash has written another one.

Book Description
The World’s Most Beautiful Orchids takes the superstars of the plant world and shows them in their many varied forms and colors. From the most commonly sold orchid type—phalaenopsis—to some of the rarest species on the planet, orchid specialists Greg Allikas and Ned Nash uncover some of the most beautiful examples they have grown and photographed in a lifetime of growing, photographing, collecting, and judging orchids. For those new to orchid growing or collecting, The World’s Most Beautiful Orchids gives an introduction to the abundant choices available. This book provides the chance to assess some of the rarer hybrids in one extensive volume. As well as providing a directory of the finest orchids, history, cultivation, and conservation is discussed, along with practical advice about buying and growing the right orchid for the right location.
With decades of experience between them, Allikas and Nash help readers tackle these tricky issues while providing a wealth of information about the very best orchids—spectacular and interesting plants that have crossed their paths, whether it was in an American Orchid Society competition or on one of their many forays into the jungles of Venezuela.

An excellent orchid culture book.......2001-04-22
In the beginning this book does what any good orchid book does, it gives a general history of the cultivation of orchids and the orchidmania that started it all. However, what makes this book so valuable is that it does not just give the coffee table version of orchid culture. This book is full of solid orchid culture facts and tips. Wether growing under lights , in a greenhouse, or in the tropics (as I do), this book provides comprehensive information on orchid culture. While the number of species covered are a little disappointing, the crisp, vibrant pictures of those shown and their crosses, all in colour, do make up for any shortfalls. I gave this book for out of five stars for only one reason, that only species shown in the book are those widely under cultivation today. While a few of the lesser known species are mentioned and some are recommended for cultivation, the book ignores most of them.
Book Description
Maurice Bloch has for many years been developing an original and influential theory of ritual. In this book he synthesizes a radical theory of religion. Rituals in a great many societies deny the transience of life and of human institutions. Bloch argues that they enact this denial by symbolically sacrificing the participants themselves, so allowing them to participate in the immortality of a transcendent entity. Such sacrifices are achieved through acts of symbolic violence, ranging from bodily mutilations to the killing of animals. The theme is developed with reference to rituals of many types, from a variety of ethnographic sources, and Bloch shows that even exogamous marriage rituals can be reinterpreted in the light of this thesis. He concludes by considering the indirect relation of symbolic and ritual violence to political violence.

Awesome book!.......2003-10-18
Millie is going to Bolivia! With her new husband, Millie will face new trials and triumphs. Meet the new characters and be reunited with the old! Start Millie's new life TOGETHER!
Mission City Press did a great job writing this book! And although it seems to end abruptly, it doesn't. You just have to read the next one! Characters were well written, and Millie is the same as ever! Full of adventure and love for God!!! Read this book, and you will never be the same! Millie's faith is awesome and encouraging, and don't miss out on the chance!
Millie Keith (Landreth).......2003-09-21
This is such a good book! However, they left out alot of charachters! Rhonda Jane wasn't in there at all! And when they go to Bolivia, the charachters are a little hard to understand. I wish it was longer also. I also want to know what happened to Annabeth! I REALLY liked it though. It has a really good plot line, and story, and it introduces the charachters really well. It is Christian though, so I'm all for it! I would recomend this book to anyone over the age of 12, because parts of it are a little scary.

Old book, new tricks.......1998-04-29
How absurd is it that this book, published less than 10 years ago, is now hopelessly out of date and worth more as a curio or paperweight than as a repository of information. Sort of sad, don't you think?
