Book Description
The Corpse Is In The Mail
Den of Antiquity proprietress Abigail Timberlake's Halloween costume party is a roaring success—until an unexpected fire sends the panicked guests fleeing from Abby's emporium. One exiting reveler she is only too happy to see the back of is Tweetie "Little Bo Peep" Timberlake—unfaithful wife of Abby's faithless ex, Buford. But not long after the conflagration is brought under control, the former Mrs. T. discovers an unfamiliar suit of armor in her house. And stuffed inside is the heavily siliconed, no-longer-living body of the current Mrs. T.
Certainly some enraged collector of medieval chain mail has sent Abby this deadly delivery. But diving into their eccentric ranks could prove a lethal proposition for the plucky antiques dealer/amateur sleuth. And even a metal suit may not be enough to protect Abby from the vicious and vindictive attentions of a crazed killer.

Wynnell the Headless Antique Dealer .......2005-07-27
Abigail Timberlake, the heroine of this series, is hosting a Halloween party and the guests include a pair of dice, Little Bo Peep, a headless woman, and the Rob-Bobs as James and Babs. The sensation of the evening however is Abby's mother who shows up in an outrageous costume that is the talk of the party. Abby's best friend Wynnell, the headless woman, gets so drunk that she passes out and has to be taken upstairs and put to bed. While Abby deals with her drunken friend the party gets out of hand and before you know it Abby's house is on fire. It's a small fire but a fire is a fire and Abby has one of her little fits and throws everyone out. Once everyone has left, Abby goes up to check on Wynnell who is awake by now and low and behold they discover a dead body under Abby's bed. The deceased is stuffed into a suit of armor and both Abby and Wynnell figure to be suspects.
Knowing full well that she would be a suspect, Abby begins to snoop in order to clear Wynnell and herself of any guilt. Before long she visits a wealthy older lady who has an unrivaled collection of antique armor, or had a collection to be more specific for she has just sold the whole collection. To make matters worse, shortly after Abby leaves the premises, the lady in question is found dead. Now Abby stands to be a suspect in two murders so she has to do her sleuthing well and quickly. As she searches through clues she finds out some secrets that her best friend Wynnell had neglected to share about herself. She also discovers the her ex-husband Buford is even lower than she thought and also finds out that her fiancee has quit his job because he wants to work on a shrimp boat.
In the previous books in this series Abby has just sort of stumbled onto the killer, usually with absolutely no clue as to who did it until the killer confesses. This time however, she figures it out all by herself but still almost ends up joining the heavenly chorus because she confronts the killer all by herself. The anti-climatic end leads the reader to the conclusion that Abby is leaving Charlotte although some of the old gang seems to be going with her. If CJ and Wynnell don't end up going with her also I am going to be quite upset, but at least I know that Abby's irrepressible mama is going to continue to be a major force in this series.
This entry in the "Den of Antiquity" series offers a fairly good mystery along with a fun plot. This story is not quite as funny as some of it's predecessors but it still offers up some hilarious moments along with some heavy doses of gossip. CJ and her Shelby stories are always a hoot although there are less of them here than in previous books. The only problem with this book was that the ending was just a little flat since no motive for the murder was provided and the whole final scenario was way too similar to the ending of "Baroque and Desperate." All in all though, I enjoyed this book immensely.
Bright Mystery.......2004-09-15
In this installment of Tamar Myer's Den of Antiquity Series, antique store owner Abigail Timberlake is hosting a Halloween party to celebrate owner her new home. After her rug is accidentally set on fire and put out with a bowl of punch, Abby kicks everyone out of her house, except for her friend Wynell, who had passed out during the party. Shortly after that, Tweety, her ex-husband's wife is found murdered and under the bed stuffed in a suit of armor. Abby quickly becomes a suspect, and investigates the crime on her own to clear her name.
This is a great series for fans of "cozy" mysteries. The characters are great, especially the Rob-Bob's, Abby's mom, C.J. and Wynell. The ending of the book hints at a new direction, it should be interesting to see where Myers goes from here.
Not That Terrible.......2004-04-21
I enjoyed this book much more than some of the previous ones. I found that the antics weren't quite as slapstick. Yes, it still is little farcical, but I found the stunts a little more funny, and Abby a little less caustic. This series is really "fluff" reading, but it can be enjoyable. Some of the characters are worth reading the books for. My favourite is CJ. Although we don't see as much of her as in previous books, she is still there and just as confused and funny as usual. In this book Abby is hosting a Halloween party to warm her new home. At the end of the party, though a body is found in a suit of armour in Abby's house, and that body is none other than her arch rival - her ex Buford's silicone-enhanced wife Tweety. Abby has to do some fast sleuthing to remove suspicion from herself for this one. Who has a better motive than her, and the killing is done in her own house. Along the way we get a lesson in medieval suits of armour. Not a bad lark.
fast, funny, lightweight mystery.......2003-05-04
This was my first Den of Antiquity book and I almost didn't stick with it through the first few gossipy chapters, but once the body was found, stuffed in a medieval suit of armour, the story began to pick up. Abby can't stand to be the object of suspicion, so off she dashes in a frantic effort to find the real killer. The ending isn't wholey satisfying (motive?), but still, this would be a good choice for casual, summer pool-side reading.
Rip-roaring plot........2002-12-17
NIGHTMARE IN SHINING ARMOR happily continues the Den of Antiquity series. In fact, it's one of the smoothest and most fun in the comic mystery series that began with LARCENY AND OLD LACE. The rip-roaring plot is lots of fun. The book is easy to read, flows quickly and smoothly, and has a fullness and a completeness to it. In other words, it's a satisfying read. But a surprise plot turn makes you wonder -- is this the end of the series? But no! Check out the next one: SPLENDOR IN THE GLASS. Nicely done.

More Robinton? No, thanks........2001-11-04
Buy it if you're a Pern collector, but otherwise give it a miss. Very standard Choose-Your-Own-Adventure fare, and Robinton's not presented as a very interesting hero.
Sweet, but not as good as McCaffrey.......2000-03-25
Anne McCaffreys Pern is a complex detailed world all her own. For anyone to attempt to compare with hers would be a feat in itself. This book was good, the plot was interesting, if a bit on the plain side, however it just does not compare to the eloquence of McCaffreys writing.

Lighthearted romp through Pern.......2001-05-22
Having read this well before the "official" version of Robinton's life, I have to admit that I still prefer this one. Jody Lynn Nye provides a light, deft rendering of the newly minted Journeyman Robinton's trek from Harper Hall to his first posting at Benden Weyr. He encounters love, danger, and the occasional skin of Benden wine.

Excellent condition. Received item promptly.
I wish I had this book 5 years ago!.......2006-11-07
This easy to read book helped us find a little peace in our lives. We implemented many things from this book with our ADHD son. We have been doing this diet for about three months now. I have never recommended any other ADHD book. This is the first. I am amazed at the difference. These were easy things to implement. The nice thing about this book is you can try one thing at a time or a lot. It is not overwhelming. Some things this book helped my son with are; he's much less hyperactive, sleeps better, eats better, less moody and fewer meltdowns. The stress level in our family is way down. Thank you Laura! My son enjoys the recipes in the book as well. Check out her website too!
Good Resource.......2002-07-07
This a good resource for people who are choosing not to use medication to help manage AD/HD. The book give a basic idea of what AD/HD is. It offers suggestions for natural ways to help with AD/HD such as changes in diet, toxin removal, biofeedback. etc. The suggestions in the book may also pertain to ADDults.
Solving the puzzle.......2000-10-28
Laura Stevens provides a much needed road map for parents seeking help for their children with ADHD. By providing step-by-step instructions, sound nutritional knowledge, excellent examples, problem-specific narratives, and good, common sense day-to-day practices (i.e.-recipes), she is eliminating the frustration in the search for answers for current and future parents of children with ADHD. This book provides the type of aid that only could have been given by someone who has had first hand experience in raising children with ADHD. Parents can now learn what to do directly from the book rather than waiting while much of the medical community is playing catch-up to scientific literature.
12 Effective Ways to Help Your ADD/ADHD Child.......2000-10-26
This book is superb in every respect. It's comprehensive, yet concise, well organized and reader-friendly. It contains information which parents cannot find elsewhere.
Stevens is a mother and highly educated professional who is now carrying out research at Purdue University on the critically important role of essential fatty acids on children with ADHD.
In this book she gives parents and professionals a step-by-step approach for helping children. In my opinion, this book will be a bestselling book for parents in the first decade of the 21st Century.

Book Description
M.F.K. Fisher, whom John Updike has called our "poet of the appetites," here pays tribute to that most delicate and enigmatic of foods---the oyster. As she tells of oysters found in stews, in soups, roasted, baked, fried, prepared à la Rockefeller or au naturel--and of the pearls sometimes found therein--Fisher describes her mother's joy at encountering oyster loaf in a girls' dorm in he 1890's, recalls her own initiation into the "strange cold succulence" of raw oysters as a young woman in Marseille and Dijon, and explores both the bivalve's famed aphrodisiac properties and its equally notorious gut-wrenching powers. Plumbing the "dreadful but exciting" life of the oyster, Fisher invites readers to share in the comforts and delights that this delicate edible evokes, and enchants us along the way with her characteristically wise and witty prose.
Customer Reviews:
Surprisingly Amusing.......2007-09-28
Hard to put down. She weaves her tales with recipes for oysters in such a way as to be thoroughly entertaining and which results in the inevitable desire to eat oysters.
Simply Beautiful.......2007-07-30
This work is a beautiful piece of food writing. Fisher tells delightful tales of the oyster, both from a natural history and culinary history perspective. Integrated in to these stories are a fair mix of recipes and pieces of food advice. Embedded in all of this is a delightful sense of whimsy, which makes the reader think that while oysters are serious food, there is no reason to be completely serious about food.
It had me craving oysters from page one, and it is now a goal of mine to make Oyster stew this year. Some of the other recipes seem a bit silly, but I'll try one of those at least.
Consider it a classic.......2000-05-05
I am not a great fan of oysters, but I am a very great fan of M.F.K. Fischer, and she makes an extraordinarily convincing case for the humble bivalve. In her sensuous, intelligent, witty and charming prose, she tells tales and relates recipes and historical trivia that will have even the most hardened anti-oyster reader craving the savor of oyster stew, or good old-fashioned oyster stuffing, or hang-town fry. This is a perfect paean to a food men of almost every culture have enjoyed throughout history. Whether you like the things or not, you will love this delicious, funny, warm book--and you, like me, may decide to give oysters another chance!

Book Description
OYSTERS ARE SEXY. LET’S AGREE ON THAT RIGHT AWAY.
But there’s much more to the oyster than simply its legendary power as an aphrodisiac. And that’s what you’ll find inside this charming field guide to oysters by oyster purveyor and champion shucker Patrick McMurray.
Rich in history and lore, CONSIDER THE OYSTER weaves together anecdotes from the author’s experiences as a restaurateur and competitive shucker with practical information on everything from opening oysters with finesse (and a minimum of personal injury!) to planning an oyster party, finding the best oyster bars and ordering hard-to-get bivalves on the Internet.
You’ll also meet the people who grow and export oysters — from the coast of Ireland to the shores of Cape Cod and everywhere in between — and you’ll find yourself longing to taste some of the more than fifty varieties that McMurray details with loving enthusiasm. Wellfleets, Malpeques, Irish Flats, Fines de Claires, Royal Courtesans... They’re all here, just waiting to be discovered and savored as never before.

Truly trouching!.......2005-10-04
This was a fantastic book by the highest standards. It was truly a joy to read. Especially high praise for the Simon story, it made me bawl! Amazing how touching a story can be, especially those of us familiar with the bond between humans and animals. Eagerly waiting for any other books by Roxanne Willems Snopek!
Heartwarming stories.......2005-05-13
A wonderful collection of tales that will touch the heart. Particularly the tale of Simon, I found myself sobbing like a baby at the end, which is generally NOT a manly thing to do. The way Snopek write these stories, you can almost feel the characters come out of the pages and touch your heart, too bad they don't live long enough for those of us that love cats. I particularly loved it because of its Canadian content and origins. Well worth the price.
Incredible Tales About Exceptional Cats.......2005-04-22
Incredible Tales About Exceptional Cats is a wonderful book for people of all ages. The variety of stories can make you laugh or bring you to tears. It also can make you appreciate and love your precious pets more and inspire you to take care of them as your most precious treasures., and not to disregard them as soon as they immerge from being kittens to adults. Unfortunately there are still some people who do that because they have neither the patience or the love to care for these little ones for the rest of their lives.
Thank you!!.......2005-03-08
I was given your book "Amazing Cat Stories" as a gift and absolutely loved it! I wanted to thank you for your wonderful talents and allowing me to go back in time. I had to send my "Buddy" to kitty heaven this past August and I can honestly say that was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. After 15 1/2 wonderful years of companionship I felt lost without her. After reading your book, so many great memories came flooding back to me. I would defintely recommend this book to any animal lover or for that matter anyone with a heart! Thank you and keep up the great work!!
Great Cat Stories.......2004-12-30
A wonderful collection of short but inspirational stories, reaffirming the indisputable importance of animals in our lives - both for them and for the human race. Made me cry - and made me laugh! A great learning tool - for all ages. I loved it!

An Early Manifesto of American Modernism.......2005-09-03
This book is an unabridged re-publication of a Depression era book titled, "Annual of American Design 1931 by the American Union of Decorative Artists and Craftsmen".
Right off the bat, the most negative thing about this book is that it is a Dover Publication Reprint. This means the quality of the publication is mediocre. Both the paper and binding are cheap. The photo quality is decent. This is no museum quality monograph on American Modernism. If you have the money and interest, try to find the original publication. I am sure that it is highly collectible.
The book is divided into nine chapters dealing with such fundamental decorative building blocks as, "The Shop", "Halls, Walls and Fittings" and "Graphic Arts in Advertising". The text for these chapters were written by some great American Modernists of the 1930's. There are short manifestos by such important artists as Kem Weber, Paul Frankl, Frank Lloyd Wright and Edward Steichen. These short texts give the reader great insights into the American modernist mind of the 1930's.
The second strength of this book is the large number of black and white photos that illustrate the text. The creations of such modernists as Von Nessen, Deskey, Rhode, Bel Geddes and Karasz are lovingly photographed.
This is a valuable book for anybody trying to gain a deeper understanding of American modernist thought in the 1920-30's. This is a great second tier book for people who have read most of the contemporary books on the American take on Modernism such as "Depression Modern" and "American Modernism". If you are not sure, at $14 a copy, you cannot go wrong by purchasing this book.

The complete guide to creative landscape.......2007-05-14
This is a great book with so many very well illustrated projects. I have just built a new home and am beginning to landscape my 4 acres I find this book very useful. All the projects are described in great detail with lots of pictures. Thanks L. Rocha
It can't be replaced!!!.......2006-05-15
I bought this book over a year ago. I've read through each project a dozen times. I love about 94% of them. Our house sits on a lot that is ~ 100 feet x ~ 120 feet. I was going to get crazy this spring and summer with a new patio, arbor, and several garden areas.
Sometime a couple of months ago, my book disappeared. I have searched nearly every square inch of our attic and basement, in addition to every closet, underneath every bed, and even in the garage. My wife has looked as well, but to no avail.
I'm 32 years old, and losing this book has nearly made me cry on at least four occassions. It's that good.
Our library doesn't have it. None of the hardware stores in town have it. We have one bookstore in town - and they don't have it. Last weekend, I finally broke down and bought two other books, thinking that by doubling up it would somehow take away the pain of losing my B&D Creative Landscapes book.
It hasn't worked.
I'm purchasing another copy on line this afternoon. There are just too many things in the book that I can't find anywhere else. It's nothing that difficult, but they do such a great job of making things easy to follow, and each project gives you ideas for three more.
Buy the book. Buy two copies. And be sure to hide one in your drawer where no one can take it.
Great Book.......2002-05-12
This book is so well layed out. I give this book 5 stars because it has excellent descriptions and pictures. I built the terra cotta fountain in the book and I love it so much.
Not bad depending on what you are looking for.......2002-01-13
This book is great as general advice. There are SO MANY different projects though that there is not a great level of detail on any one. Just enough of an overview and "how-to" to make you feel comfortable about taking some of these projects on for yourself or answering those questions that always used to make you go "Hmmmmm." Still, for a first time homeowner it will give you a lot of ideas and confidence to start making plans.
great book!!.......2000-10-28
I have been in the search of a home for months now and the one thing I kept telling myself was that when I finally bought it, I would also buy this book. I looked at lots of books at Home Depot, B & N, etc. but this is one of the best and most creative landscaping books I have found. So today, knowing that I have a home and YARD that I can call my own, I am buying it!!

Book Description
This collection of papers encourages social and biological scientists to question their presentations of African Americans and to recognize that afrocentricity is important in refocusing portrayals of African Americans. It contrasts the production of these cultural portrayals by the majority of the U.S. population with those by African Americans themselves. It shows the process of creating a racial identity as well as the historical background related to a new evaluation of what it is to be African American in the United States.
