Better than a Michigan River?.......2000-04-05

Last summer-99, I fished the Beaverkill and loved it, even in early August during the drought, for two days. I bought this book about a month ago, as I plan to go the the Beaverkill again this June for at least a week. Peper gives a very detailed account on how and where to fish the ponds of the B'kill. His descriptions of the hatches and the ties to fly are a plus to the book. In the past few weeks I have tied over 100 flies that he describes in his book, to take on my trip. I assume from what I have read in the book will make my fishing trip a great success. I recommmend this book to anyone even thinking of fishing the Beaverkill, you cant go wrong by buying it. This earlier edition is still, I would say, one of the most useful texts available in this area.

Review of Chez Nous.......1998-10-21

I find that this first-year college level French text to be an adequate introduction to the language. I expecially appreciate the wide-array of authentic examples of francophone culture presented throughout the text. It is through these examples, that the student is able to apply to concepts and vocabulary in everyday situations. My only complaint with the book is the fact that in several of the short essays, many words are introduced but without any translations either in the essay or the glossary. Many times this is frustrating to students. However, the cassette tapes that accompany the text are a beneficial tool to the mastery of proper pronunciation.

This book is an excellent resource and an easy read for anyone with a senior dog. It brings to an owner's attention many areas of aging in a pet similar to human aging. It also gives good advice on dealing with problems encountered with an aging pet.

Wonderful book!.......2005-04-19

This book just won a 2004 Maxwell award from the Dog Writers Association of America in the Book: care and health category, and with good cause. McCullough knows what she's talking about. She covers nutrition, exercise, health cost, typical diseases, what to expect, and - of course - a discussion on when is the best time to let your friend go. Housebreaking can be a problem for some seniors, and McCullough recommends bringing out the crate. Certain problems that seniors are prone to, such as going blind or deaf, are discussed, as well as how to help your dog cope. Her practicality and compassionate approach to canine senior citizens, who deserve to lounge about in the sunshine, comes through clearly. Much of what she says is common sense, but if you haven't experienced what happens to a senior dog, this book will really help you prepare, understand what is happening, and what you can do about it.

This is a great resource! I have a 9 year old Sheltie with some health issues and I found this book to have terrific information specific to older dogs. It's a good read straight through or as a reference if you're just looking for information on a particular subject.

not just another pretty flower book.......2005-06-25

The photographs are so pretty. I gave several as a gift at a lunch the other day. However, the best thing about this little book is the information about roses and how to arrange them. It also provides names of every rose used and good alternatives to garden roses which are not readily available from my florist. I was able to overcome my fear of doing flowers for the first party in my new house! My husband thinks I should change careers.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book for all women from the age of 16 to 100. The setting is in a peaceful little resort town, where violence and fear comes unexpectedly to haunt Melinda Parker in the form of spousal abuse. This talented author makes the main characters seem to come alive as you read about Melinda's sorrows, fears and triumphs. Her friends become your friends, and her enemies your enemies.You will find this book very difficult to put down. Buy it! Read it! You will be so glad you did!

Sandspurs is Great.......2002-02-15

From the beginning to the end Anne Marie Jasper held me spellbound with her journey into the subject of spousel abuse. Too often we think if a woman is abused she deserved it or that it is all in her mind and no abuse took place to begin with. Anne shows us the woman is not to blame and shows what can happen when authoities scoff at a woman's complaints and how friends are few and far between when abuse is reported. The story Anne told us and the way she told it, is a must read. If you pick up this book you will have a hard time putting it down until you come to the last exciting page.

McLeod's women are strong and beautiful. I'm in love with Sylvia. I could stand to spend an evening with Elaine, too. I could see this festival vividly. The characters are the best part of this, and all McLeod's books, with the plot a close second.

I really liked this book. It started off slow, but that was because they're so many interesting characters to describe. The story could have been set anywhere, but I was glad it was at a Ren Fest. I wish My Lady's Faire was real, because I'd go to it. I love the Marauding Minstrels and I want to meet Sylvia Brennan and Elaine Enman. I love this book and none of the characters are losers, except for a couple of them, but they deserve to be. Please read this book. It'll make you think differently of Renaissance festivals. We're not all losers!
