Amazing Relationship Workbook and Guide.......2007-01-19

Wow, this little book summarizes so much information about what it takes to make your relationships work great. Starting out with moving from a "serious" point of view, to one of playing various "games". Discussing differences between Men and Women - like Men are the How, and Women are the what - and pointing out that women love menu's (very very useful). And hundreds of wonderful suggestions for how to *Enchant* your connection with your honey, by training your partner to train you, using the taking touch, and having fun with the hero/goddess game. I found this to be practical, hands on, and a very useful book.

This is dead-on book. I also read "Men are from Mars..." and I think John Gray is terrific but I liked the direct and really practical approach to this complex subject by Ms Taylor. I had a "wow this is it" feeling as I was reading and the "anxiety dissipating" experience you get when you break through frustration.

Mostly Gibberish, Nuggets Too Far Down to Dig Up.......2000-10-13

There are no doubt a few nuggets of wisdom in this book, but they are buried too deeply in bureaucratic gibberish to be worth digging up. This book has no bibliography, no index, mediocre footnotes, no serious useful conclusions or strategic summary, and a disturbing combination of American-centrism (on page 71: "In the Asian continent....(t)he first driver will be the future U.S. role in Asia.") with a lack of intelligent presentation. There are exactly three figures and seven tables in this 336 page book, when there should have been at least 30 tables and figures illustrating specific sources of conflict in relation to specific countries. The World Conflict and Human Rights Map (8 pages of graphics and 8 pages of fine print) out of Leiden University does vastly more to inform than does this book. This book should never, ever have been published in its present form--I venture to say that if it were condensed to 150 pages and properly edited, with graphics and good synthesis, it might be worthy of a second look. Time is the most precious commodity in the world--RAND managers and editors need to get serious about how they present possibly useful information to experts who want to know what RAND thinks, but cannot spare the time to get past cumbersome undisiplined--even lazy--preparations. The topic of this book is extremely important--those who would invest their scarce time and money in doing research in this area deserve better from those who put together this book.

On the morning of April 23, 1875, H Company, 6th U.S. Cavalry attacked and destroyed a Cheyenne camp located on the middle fork of Sappa Creek, a tributary of the Republican River in what is today Rawlins County, Kansas. The ensuing engagement was the last important military action of the Red River War and the last fought on the central plains between the U.S. Army and an independent band of Indians composed principally of Southern Cheyennes.

In Massacre at Cheyenne Hole, John H. Monnett sifts through the various interpretations of the event over the years and places them into proper historical perspective. Initially, Lieutenant Austin Henely was viewed as a hero, and his H Company men were awarded eight Medals of Honor for their bravery in the skirmish. However, later intimations surfaced that the Sappa Creek fight was a massacre of the Cheyennes under Little Bull who attempted to surrender. Tales of innocent noncombatants being murdered in the destruction of the camp following the battle were common by the early twentieth century.

Avoiding the current approach of separating the participants into clear camps of victims and victimizers, Monnett instead uses the Sappa Creek battle as a case study to understand how Americans since 1875 have perceived the Indian wars in general within the larger cultural construct. By studying the Sappa Creek Massacre and its remaining mysteries from this perspective, Monnett reveals as much about how Americans view Western history and the theme of manifest destiny as he does about what we can accurately conclude from the facts of the battle.

Massacre at Cheyenne Hole is a welcome addition to the literature about the Indian wars and the Cheyenne Indians, and will appeal to both historians and the general reader interested in military and Native American history.

This is a book for people who are truely interested in Ego State Theory. Also, it is a very informative and engaging book for people who have been diagnosed with DID. Cameron West brings his personal struggles to the public and is able to impart his angst as well as his optimism to readers.

There aren't enough synonyms for "bad" to describe this book........2007-03-09

I bought this book in a second hand bookstore and before I finished the first chapter I was already distracted by West's appalling overuse of groan-inducing metaphors. This book must contain the largest collection of bad metaphors ever published. You can scarely turn a page without being assaulted by another embarrassingly dreadful metaphor, or an irrelevant, boasting description of his cars, clothes, appliances, etc. The impression I was left with (besides the fact that this guy REALLY should have gotten someone else to write the book for him, or at the very least should have found a competent editor), is that it's fake. I don't doubt that Mr. West has psychological issues, but more than anything, you get the impression that this is a man who craves attention. It's obvious that West wrote the story with a movie in mind, as it reads like a bad screen play. I believe in DID, but I don't believe Mr. West.

Just a true story of a family and the affects of a MPD father on that family. Down to earth. Showing how and what the family memebers could do to support the father. I was happy to see a family unit working together. There is very little technical, big words describing MPD
but from the patients view and family. It is a story. Not a school book that is cold with descriptions and theories. Helped me a lot.

I've always been fascinated with the intricacies of the human mind. After completing a book about a patient with schizophrenia, I picked up for a change this book about Disassociative Identity Disorder. I've to tell you, in sharp contrast to the effort it took me to comprehension the symptoms of schizophrenia, DID required challenging- no, scratch that- almost mind-bending attempt on my behalf to comprehend how the brain could invent such a mechanism to cope with abuse.

The story spans over the course of several months and examines in detail tribulation after tribulation. The author, Dr. West, paints a picture of a painful and chaotic existence, beginning with the emergence of several male and female identities and ending with his treatment. Thankfully, readers are spared the details of his childhood abuse. And who would want to read about the worst kind of sin? Of course, it must have taken a superhuman effort on his part to complete this heartbreaking book. How could one retain control of his own fragile mind when so many identities constantly struggle to burst out in the open and retain control of his body? Truthfully, it's beyond my imagination.

Despite Dr. West's attempts to keep a level of sanity within the pages, readers should be prepared for a quite confusing narrative. As identities came out, one is forced to struggle to understand the intricate emotions of each personality. There were times when I wanted to stop reading as my interest wavered during certain dialogues. At other times I was fully captivated in the story (especially towards the end when the author finally accepts the reality of his misfortune).

For someone who wasn't very familiar with this type of psychological disorder, I found the book very informative. For those interested in learning about how the disorder manifests itself in the beginning, what impact it has on a patient, and how the person learns to cope with it, pick up a copy of the book.

Non Co-Conscious View.......2006-06-16

I have heard many people bash this book, but as a multiple who is NOT co-conscious with many of her alters...I found it extremely helpful in establishing contact with them. Yes, it reads like a novel. He wasn't attemping to be a doctor and write it as a "how to" guide. It lets you into the feelings and the uncertainly. There is much speculation and doubt within the pages. I know how that feels.

But one thing stands out above everything else. He made the point that he doesn't have DID...he IS multiple and that was a break through for US...all of US. His self discovery and journey, no matter how clinical or non-clinically written helped to provide a door for me to walk through.

I strongly recommend this book to others that are not connected to their inner world and are trying to just find the path along the journey.

A nice short guidebook for penstemon fans.......2006-07-27

This short guide is a revision of the author's earlier "The Beautiful Beardtongues of New Mexico" (written with Erma Pilz). The high point is 74 clear, well-reproduced color photographs of NM penstemons, photographed by Bill Heflin, the author's husband. She has written one-page descriptions of about 45 species to aid field identification, along with a short note on growing native penstemons in your garden. In my experience, the Rocky Mountain penstemon is the easiest to find and grow.

She also includes this note: "The penstemons appear to be a rapidly-evolving genus and are extremely variable, even within one species, sometimes making identification difficult." Amen!

Summary, get a more current and up-to-date guide for
the Lesser Antilles.
Lesser Antilles is a great place to visit. You want
to do fancy - it is very expensive.
Otherwise, did not find costs outrageous.

I was very disappointed with this guide book. I've bought a lot of guidebooks and have never seen one as general as this one. The information contained in Fodors or Frommers big Carribean books give better coverage to St. Kitts which is what I was interested in learning about.

I read the review that said this book was worthless and chose to ignore it - mistake! You can definitely find all of this information, plus a whole lot more, via the few websites and message boards about Anguilla. Buy a book to read on your trip instead!

I have found this book to be an informative helpful guide about some of the Carribean islands which little seems to be written.

It is particularly useful for someone, like myself, who is ready to explore the Carribean beyond their own favorite island, in my case - St. John.

I am finding it to be a great resource tool.

A minor fault - I wish it had more colored pictures.

A Good Resource.......2000-05-07

Nancy does a nice job of educating new owners on how to raise and care for their Lhasas in this book. She covers everything from picking a pup to grooming, traveling and basic health care and diseases. The Lhasa's personality traits are covered nicely as well. The pictures are entertaining and helpful. I highly recommend this book to new Lhasa Apsos owners or others researching the breed.
